• DIsable my nv video card driver in linux

  I'm trying to passthrough my nv video card to my domU, but I could not bind my video card to the pciback driver I only have one video card with the pci number 0000:03:00.0, so I used the following command echo -n "0000:03:00.0" > /sys/bus/pci/drivers/nouveau/bind to unbind the nouveau driver from my video card. The screen went black because I have forcefully removed the video driver, therefore I ssh'd into the computer to run further commands I ran: echo -n "0000:03:00.0" > /sys/bus/pci/drivers/pciback/bind to try to bind it to my pciback driver, but I got: bash: echo: write error: No such device I found out that this was the message shown when trying to bind a PCI device which is already bound. Therefore, I think that something was still using my video card Can anyone help me out? Thanks a lot!

  I have an ASUS ENGT440/DI1GD5 video card which has three outputs: DVI, D-Sub and HDMI. I am using both D-Sub and DVI, but my main monitor is connected to the DVI output. Everything works fine except for the text mode. The card somehow uses the D-Sub output in text mode when both monitors are connected (when I disconnect the D-Sub output and leave only the primary monitor connected to the DVI output, it's being used correctly). How do I make the card use only the DVI output (or both) in text mode?

  I recently quit gaming so I took out my (GeForce GTX 550 Ti) video card and switched back to the (cheap) integrated card because I don't want the dedicated card using up power & making unnecessary heat/noise. But now I get lag when I watch high-res movies, or when I open several videos at the same time, but I don't want to go back to my (big/expensive) video card because that seems like overkill. What is the smallest/cheapest card which will only be good enough for watching videos without lagging ? (but not for gaming) PS. My CPU is: AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor

• How to specify console (or primary display) for video adapter?

  I have an ASUS ENGT440/DI1GD5 video adapter which has three output ports: D-Sub (HD-15), DVI and HDMI. I am using both the D-Sub and DVI ports, but my main monitor is connected to the DVI output. Everything works fine except for which monitor is designated the console during boot. The video adapter seems to prefer the D-Sub output for the console. When both the VGA and DVI monitors are connected, then the VGA monitor always becomes the console which displays the motherboard logo, POST information and booting progress. When only the DVI monitor is connected, then it becomes the console as desired. How do I make the video adapter always use the DVI output (instead of the VGA port) for the console while booting?

• Upgraded to a GTX 580 - no video signal on boot

  I have: New Corsair 550w PSU (should be more than enough) AsRock H61M u3s3 mobo (with latest updated BIOS) Just replaced my faithful HD 7790 GPU with a refurbished EVGA GTX 580 1.5GB. When I boot, it sounds like the PC boots to windows, and the 580's fan is spinning, but I can't get any video signal from the card. Old card and integrated graphics still work fine (when I replace and use those instead). I am using the DVI ports on the card with a DVI-VGA adapter until I can get my hands on a mini HDMI adapter tomorrow. Anyone ever heard of a GPU needed something special to make the VGA signal work? Hold down a key on startup or something? I can't even find a manual for this card.

• Windows XP crashes by GT610 driver (nv4_disp)

  I have a PC which was working fine but one day screen went dark and nothing was shown. I thought the problem is graphic card, so I replaced it with new one. I bought a new graphic card (GeForce 610) and installed it on my system. I formatted my hard-drive and installed a fresh Windows XpSp3 and its drivers. Everything was fine but after installing graphic card's driver, I got an error saying windows got stuck in an infinite loop and it couldn't get out (in nv4_disp). I uninstalled it and downloaded its last version and installed it. Unfortunately, I got the same error and windows restated! Here's my system: Pascal Motherboard PT880PRO Intel CPU Windows XPSp3 I searched this issue on the internet and I found bunch of suggestions (from cleaning hardware to installing latest version of its driver) but nothing help! • What can cause a black or blank screen when pressing logout or switch user in windows 7

  The situation I have here is related to a brand new dell machine with a GTX260 video card. Put simply after one user logs in when that user either 'switch users' or 'logs out' windows goes to a black/blank screen. The TV screen that is used with this computer previously functioned fine with fast user switching on an XP machine. The new computer is windows 7. The TV is not outputting any error messages like 'no signal' or anything else that would be displayed if the computer was off. You can fix the problem by cycling the input on television, after cycling the input the welcome screen appears as normal. What I want to know is what on earth is windows doing that would cause the video card to stop sending the same signal to the monitor when the user logs off or switches users. I mean as far as I can tell the resolution is identical between windows and the welcome screen. Or perhaps if somebody has experienced this before a fix would be great too.

• Issues with new graphics card and drivers

  With my onboard graphics card (Intel HD 4000) I was able to use 1680x1050 screen resolution. Using the same screen and an Asus ENGTS250 graphics card with 296.10 drivers installed, I'm not able to use that resolution anymore. Also, I've been having other trouble with driver installations. Using 340.52 or 337.88, I can't boot into Windows 7. I see the Windows Welcome screen and then the screen goes black, loses signal and the computer locks up. I think the drivers issues and the resolution problems go hand-in-hand. I have a feeling I could use a newer driver than 296.10 which would give me access to use the 1680x1050 resolution I want to use, but I'm terrified that if I update or install another driver, that the computer will lock up again. Can anyone recommend a [better] driver for me to use?

  I'm trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop on a Dell Precision T1600, however, I get a blank screen with only a blinking cursor in the top left hand corner (this is after the grey screen with the small Ubuntu logo at the bottom). If I remove the Nvidia Quadro 2000 card and plug a monitor into the built-in VGA port, then the installation works fine. Also, I've tried an Nvidia Quadro 2000D by PNY, but I get the same problem. Has anyone installed Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop on a Dell Precision workstation?

  I'm running Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit. I'm trying to get valve's new Linux Steam client running, but having a bit of trouble getting it to detect the right libraries or at least I think that's the issue. I installed the latest 310.19 Nvidia proprietary drivers from geforce.com. Here's the screenshot: I tried uninstalling xserver-xorg-video-nouveau thinking this was the problem but I'm still getting the same error. • No sound, can't adjust alsamixer volume

  I have no sound on my ubuntu and I do not know why. I saw a lot of posts about that, I tried a lots of solutions that I found (especially this one) but it still does not work. I suspect alsamixer.
