With Windows there is is an option from the taskbar to tile windows horizontally or vertically. Is there someway to replicate this feature in Mac OS X?
Every 10 seconds, something like the following appears in the Mac OS X system log:

I've been using Mac OS X's VNC service to connect remotely from a Windows XP box, via TightVNC. Everything seems to work normally, except that frequently - anywhere from ten seconds to ten minutes - the connection locks up entirely, without any sort of error message. The only solution is to reconnect and wait for it to lock up again.
How can this be fixed permanently?
Note, there's already a question on this regard, but it's totally useless.
I need to blur, or put a small opaque mask to a moving object on a movie I took, I am using Mac OS X. Clearly, I don't want to shell out a lot of money for something so simple, so getting Adobe Premiere or similar software is a no go. I could however consider paying a small software (max 30 dollars) for this specific task.
Are there any real-time sound levelling applications for OS X? Something that can even-out the loud and quiet scenes of movies so that I don't have to keep reaching for the remote? I don't want to re-encode or permanently change any video/audio files, however.
I have defined my own custom vim file type with highlighting etc. I would like to open it using the terminal based vim when I double click on it. I am using mac os x. Any pointers on how to start on this?
Hi,
Toast Titanium 10 offers a way of mounting an image into a virtual DVD drive so that it is viewed as being a separate physical drive by other applications.
I was wondering if there was a way of achieving the same result using the built-in OS X tools (whether GUI or command line), as I am aware it has many of such built in.
Thanks in advance!
I'd like to see the dot hidden files in the Finder but not on the Desktop, is that possible?
(.localized and .DS_Store on my desktop really annoy me.)
I'm using Snow Leopard (Mac OS X v10.6).
Is there to manipulate icons on an OS X file from either Automator or the terminal?
In my case, I want to remove custom icons (ie the same as doing 'Get Info' and Edit-Cut on the icon) from a large number of files.
How could I enable syntax highlighting on the shell and in emacs when I use Terminal.app on Mac OS X to ssh into other machines? Right now if I ssh and do an "ls" for example, directories are not shown in a different color from flat files, for example, and I'd like to fix that.
thanks.
This may have been asked before, but I'm wondering whether there is a shortcut for navigating to the enclosing folder in OS X (Snow Leopard)?
I find navigating Finder particularly frustrating since it's hard navigating back to the enclosing folder (especially when you jump to a folder and realize the back button is disabled)...
I'm hoping for something other than Command+Up, since that's the key combination I use to navigate Spaces.
What is the last version of Skype that runs on a Mac OS X Panther 10.3.9 ?
I've download a so called compatible version but it doesn't start.
I've also heard that it can be a problem coming from Quicktime version...
I don't know if the problem was well know,I searched the google, but didn't get anything useful.
I configed the KVM guest vga mode as
vga std
and got a yellow exclamation sign with the vga in the XP guest OS.

Some often,I could get a blue screen crash.Any one could give some further information?
Using Mac OS on multiple monitor is great, but after removing external monitor (2nd monitor) usually windows position originally on the external monitor doesn't get re-positioned to default monitor. Is there any shortcut key or utilities that can reset window position for this kind of usage?
After googling for some Mac OS X terminal shortcuts, I wanted to find how can I go back characters on a line on the terminal or words or similar. I found ALT + B but it does not work.
Do you know some other shortcuts, or how can I customize them or links to cheat sheets?
I have a collection of .tif files but when I open them on Mac OS X 10.5 they show up as solid black and I don't know why.
thanks
Upon further inspection at really high brightness there are some out of focus objects viewable. It looks as if I am getting the first couple bits of each pixel but not the entire range of values.
I have a OS X 10.6 install working, with Apache and PHP installed.
However, I cannot get mod_rewrite working. The contents of my httpd.conf is located here: http://pastie.org/828990
Does anyone know what vital thing I'm missing?
Do you guys know any software that can reproduce the entire tree of directories under a certain directory to another disk and keep it update in real-time on Mac OS X?
A kind of mirror RAID, but instead of mirroring the whole disk I need to mirror just all directories inside one specific directory.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
On OS X 10.5 and 10.6 at least, the command to enable all files in Finder only affects Finder Windows -- the "/File /Open" dialogs on applications still show a limited set of files, ignoring nearly all the Unix stuff.
Is there a setting which enables ALL file dialogs of ALL types to show ALL files? I really am a big boy and promise not to harm them! :)
Why does OS X have both a "Hide" and a "Minimize" feature? This seems somewhat redundant to me, and also introduces some inconsistency when I am trying to find an arbitrary window. If it's hidden, I need to activate the application and use the "Windows" menu to bring it up; if the window is minimized, it appears in the dock.
What are some scenarios in which you'd use these two features differently?
How do you encrypt a single folder on Mac OS X without using a Disk Image?
I have heard you can use a Disk Image to do this but I don't want a giant Disk Image just sitting there which I will probably never fill up.
Thanks in advance!
I'm using mail from Mac OS terminal to send the results of a database query to me via email. Most of the time it works, but sometimes there is a long delay before the mail arrives (often when another similar script is run). It looks like there is some kind of send queue, but I can't find any docs mentioning this. Is there something I need to do to flush mail from the terminal?
I'm spoiled by FastStone on the PC. I'm looking for decent freeware/shareware for Mac OS X that will allow basic photo editing, particularly something that lets me pick a crop size or aspect ratio by entering in numbers rather than just a freehand crop (I need to make sure it's 8.5"x11" aspect ratio).
Any suggestions?
