  • Cannot translate date formats from rails form to mysql db

    - by Steve
I have a simple search form in rails 3 that has two date fields. I'm having a problem getting these dates into my mysql db. I've tried using the american_date gem, specifying date formats in my initializers, in the config/locales/en.yml file, and directly on the date on the date fields themselves. Currently, I'm setting the rails-approved date format in the view - <%= f.text_field :depart_date, :value=> Date.today.strftime('%Y-%m-%d') %> The dateformat in my DB is also YYYY-mm-dd, so things should be going smoothly. The console tells me that the two date fields are both class = "Date" I think I've found the disconnect. From the logs - Started POST "/searches" for 127.0.0.1 at 2013-10-30 17:43:26 -0400 Processing by SearchesController#create as HTML Parameters: {"utf8"=>"v","search"=>{"depart_date"=>"2013-10-30", "return_date"=>"2013-11-09"} ?[1m?[35m (0.0ms)?[0m BEGIN ?[1m?[36mSQL (0.0ms)?[0m ?[1mINSERT INTO `searches` (`depart_date`,`return_date`) VALUES ('2013-30-10','2013-09-11')?[0m ?[1m?[35m (2.0ms)?[0m COMMIT Note that the month and day values are switched in the insert statement. How can I prevent this from happenening?

  • Best Ruby Git library?

    - by Jeff Welling
Which is the best Git library in Ruby to use? Git, Grit, Rugged, Other? Background: I'm the current maintainer of TicGit-ng which is a distributed offline ticket system built on git, and I've read and heard over and over again that Grit is the one I should use because it supersedes the Git gem, but there seems to be either a lack of documentation or a lack of features because myself and others have failed in trying to switch from the deprecated-but-functional Git to the newer Grit gem.

  • Yahoo media player not working with Ruby on rails

    - by luca590
I have a yahoo media player embedded in my webpage. I am currently using Ruby on Rails to create/edit my web page. When i click the play button next to a track the YMP waits a while and then goes to the next track without playing the first one. I then get a warning on my second (last) track that its file could not be found. Does anyone has a better recommendation for an audio player or a way to fix this one?

  • Initial deployment of ClickOnce product on corporate network

    - by MrEdmundo
Hi there I'm a developer looking at introducing ClickOnce deployment for an internal .NET Winforms application that will be distributed via the corporate network. Currently the product roll out and updates are handled by Group Policy however I would like to control the updates via ClickOnce deployment now. What I would like to know is, how should I initially roll out the package to make sure that all users have got it. Can I use a combination of Group Policy (the roll out) and then rely on the ClickOnce deployment model for any further updates?

  • nconf deployment.ini configuration for a basic Nagios server on CentOS 6.2

    - by jshin47
    I have set up nconf and Nagios but I cannot figure out how to configure deployment.ini to properly deploy the generated configuration to /usr/local/nagios/etc. Here are the directory listings of interest: [jshin@nag0 tmp]$ ls Default_collector global [jshin@nag0 tmp]$ cd Default_collector/ [jshin@nag0 Default_collector]$ ls advanced_services.cfg hostgroups.cfg service_dependencies.cfg services.cfg host_dependencies.cfg hosts.cfg servicegroups.cfg [jshin@nag0 Default_collector]$ cd .. [jshin@nag0 tmp]$ cd global/ [jshin@nag0 global]$ ls checkcommands.cfg contacts.cfg misccommands.cfg timeperiods.cfg contactgroups.cfg host_templates.cfg service_templates.cfg [jshin@nag0 global]$ cd .. [jshin@nag0 tmp]$ cd /usr/local/nagios/etc/ [jshin@nag0 etc]$ ls cgi.cfg htpasswd.users nagios.cfg objects resource.cfg [jshin@nag0 etc]$ cd objects/ [jshin@nag0 objects]$ ls commands.cfg localhost.cfg switch.cfg timeperiods.cfg contacts.cfg printer.cfg templates.cfg windows.cfg Here is my deployment.ini (pretty much the default setting) ;; LOCAL deployment ;; [extract config] type = local source_file = "/var/www/html/nconf/output/NagiosConfig.tgz" target_file = "/tmp/" action = extract [copy collector config] type = local source_file = "/tmp/Default_collector/" target_file = "/usr/local/nagios/etc/Default_collector/" action = copy [copy global config] type = local source_file = "/tmp/global/" target_file = "/usr/local/nagios/etc/global" action = copy reload_command = "service nagios restart" What I am wondering is why the directory structure that the default deployment.ini seems to suggest, with Default_collector and global, is different from the one that Nagios has by default, with only a folder called objects. What am I missing? Or more importantly, how does your deployment.ini look?

  • Sorting/Paginating/Filtering Complex Multi-AR Object Tables in Rails

    - by Matt Rogish
I have a complex table pulled from a multi-ActiveRecord object array. This listing is a combined display of all of a particular user's "favorite" items (songs, messages, blog postings, whatever). Each of these items is a full-fledged AR object. My goal is to present the user with a simplified search, sort, and pagination interface. The user need not know that the Song has a singer, and that the Message has an author -- to the end user both entries in the table will be displayed as "User". Thus, the search box will simply be a dropdown list asking them which to search on (User name, created at, etc.). Internally, I would need to convert that to the appropriate object search, combine the results, and display. I can, separately, do pagination (mislav will_paginate), sorting, and filtering, but together I'm having some problems combining them. For example, if I paginate the combined list of items, the pagination plugin handles it just fine. It is not efficient since the pagination is happening in the app vs. the DB, but let's assume the intended use-case would indicate the vast majority of the users will have less than 30 favorited items and all other behavior, server capabilities, etc. indicates this will not be a bottleneck. However, if I wish to sort the list I cannot sort it via the pagination plugin because it relies on the assumption that the result set is derived from a single SQL query, and also that the field name is consistent throughout. Thus, I must sort the merged array via ruby, e.g. @items.sort_by{ |i| i.whatever } But, since the items do not share common names, I must first interrogate the object and then call the correct sort by. For example, if the user wishes to sort by user name, if the sorted object is a message, I sort by author but if the object is a song, I sort by singer. This is all very gross and feels quite un-ruby-like. This same problem comes into play with the filter. If the user filters on the "parent item" (the message's thread, the song's album), I must translate that to the appropriate collection object method. Also gross. This is not the exact set-up but is close enough. Note that this is a legacy app so changing it is quite difficult, although not impossible. Also, yes there is some DRY that can be done, but don't focus on the style or elegance of the following code. Style/elegance of the SOLUTION is important, however! :D models: class User < ActiveRecord::Base ... has_and_belongs_to_many :favorite_messages, :class_name => "Message" has_and_belongs_to_many :favorite_songs, :class_name => "Song" has_many :authored_messages, :class_name => "Message" has_many :sung_songs, :class_name => "Song" end class Message < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :favorite_messages belongs_to :author, :class_name => "User" belongs_to :thread end class Song < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :favorite_songs belongs_to :singer, :class_name => "User" belongs_to :album end controller: def show u = User.find 123 @items = Array.new @items << u.favorite_messages @items << u.favorite_songs # etc. etc. @items.flatten! @items = @items.sort_by{ |i| i.created_at } @items = @items.paginate :page => params[:page], :per_page => 20 end def search # Assume user is searching for username like 'Bob' u = User.find 123 @items = Array.new @items << u.favorite_messages.find( :all, :conditions => "LOWER( author ) LIKE LOWER('%bob%')" ) @items << u.favorite_songs.find( :all, :conditions => "LOWER( singer ) LIKE ... " ) # etc. etc. @items.flatten! @items = @items.sort_by{ |i| determine appropriate sorting based on user selection } @items = @items.paginate :page => params[:page], :per_page => 20 end view: #index.html.erb ... <table> <tr> <th>Title (sort ASC/DESC links)</th> <th>Created By (sort ASC/DESC links))</th> <th>Collection Title (sort ASC/DESC links)</th> <th>Created At (sort ASC/DESC links)</th> </tr> <% @items.each |item| do %> <%= render { :partial => "message", :locals => item } if item.is_a? Message %> <%= render { :partial => "song", :locals => item } if item.is_a? • Open Source Security packages for Rails

    - by Edwin
I'm currently creating a complete web application using Rails 3 to familiarize myself with its inner workings and to gain a better appreciation of a working web application's moving parts. (Plus, since I'm still working on my degree, I hope that it will give me a better idea of what's BS in my education requirements and which weaknesses/skills I should focus on.) The example application I'm working on is an ecommerce site, and I've already configured the backend, routes, controllers, and so on. As part of the application, I'd like to integrate a second layer of security on top of the one Rails already provides for user authentication. However, I've been unable to find any on Google, with the exception of OAuth - which, from my understanding, is meant to secure API calls. While I could roll my own secure authentication system, I'm only in my second year of college and recognize that A) I know little about security, and B) there are developers that know much more about security that are working on open-source projects. What are some actively developed open-source security packages or frameworks that can be easily added to Rails? Pros and cons are not necessary, as I can do the research myself. P.S. I'm not sure whether I posted this in the right SE site; please migrate to SO or Security if it is more appropriate there.

I'm still going through some guides on RoR and i'm stuck here at "Deploying the demo app" I followed instructions: " With the completion of microposts resources, now is a good time to push the repository up to GitHub: " $ git add . $ git commit -a -m "Finish demo app" $ git push What happened wrong here was the push part.. it outputted this: $ git push fatal: No configured push destination. Either specify the URL from the command-line or configure a remote repository using git remote add < name < url git push < name So i tried following the insturctions by doing this command: $git remote add demo_app 'www.github.com/levelone/demo_app' fatal: remote demo_app already exists. So i push: $git push demo_app fatal: 'www.github.com/levelone/demo_app' does not appear to be a git repository fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly What can i do here? • devise roles: different roles, in some cases same rights

    - by mattherick
I have two roles in devise. The first is the admin and the second the normal user-role. Now I´d like to give these two groups in some cases same rights with before filters. How does this work? I have: before_filter :authenticate_user!, :only = [:new, :create] before_filter :authenticate_admin!, :only = [:new, :create, :edit, :update, :destroy] But now only a user can :new and :create...the admin not.. What I have to do here? Thanks, Mattherick

  • Add a :filter param to the end of a url

    - by bob
Hello, I am building an application that requires a search to go deeper than the initial level. I am using nested scopes to accomplish this and params in the URL For example, when a user searches for "handbag" it creates a query like the following. http://localhost:3000/junks?search=handbag&condition=&category=&main_submit=Go! I want to add a :filter param to the end of this url and reload the page with the new url. http://localhost:3000/junks?search=handbag&condition=&category=&main_submit=Go!&filter=lowest_price As shown above the &filter=lowest_price is added to the query. I have already written controller code to handle this and I know it works as long as the query is like the 2nd link above. my views code <div class = "filter_options"> <p> <strong>Filter by:</strong> <%= link_to_unless_current "Recent", :filter => 'recent' %> | <%= link_to_unless_current "Lowest Price", :filter => 'lowest_price' %> | <%= link_to_unless_current "Highest Price", :filter => 'highest_price' %> </p> </div> This is how I have it currently, which works if my URL does not have a search string attached to it. Unfortunately, this will go to a http://localhost:3000/junks?filter=lowest_price even if there is a search string. I would like to know how to create my links so that they add onto the search string shown in the 2nd code example. Additionally, if a search string with a filter is already present, it would only change that filter and resubmit the search string with the new filter. I hope I am being clear.

  • Creating a nested model form

    - by Elliot
Hey Guys, I'm trying to build a multi model form - but one of the issues, is I need to link the models within the form. For example, lets say the form I have has the following models: Users, Profiles When creating a new user, I'd like to create a new profile simultaneously, and then link the two. The issue is, if neither have been created yet, they don't have ID's yet - so how can I assign linking values? Thanks! -Elliot

  • Creating a new nested resource

    - by Bobby B
I'm working on a basic garden logging application which consists of gardens, plants and planted plants. Each user has one or many gardens, plants are master definitions, and a planted plant can be thought of as an instance of a plant in a specific user's garden. In my routes.rb file I have the following: map.resources :gardens do |gardens| gardens.resources :planted_plants, :has_many => :plant_log_entries, :collection => { :filter => :post, :choose_garden => :post} gardens.resources :garden_log_entries end map.resources :plants This makes sense to me when retrieving a list of planted_plants in a user's garden, but I'd like to create a planted_plant record from the index of plant. The problem is, a user can have multiple gardens. How can I create a new form for a planted_plant that allows the user to specify which garden should be used? The current route requires a garden_id - which makes sense for retrieval, but I'd like to supply that as a parameter for creation. Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Finding related tags using acts-as-taggable-on

    - by user284194
In tag#show I list all entries with that tag. At the bottom of the page I'd like to have something like: "Related Tags: linked, list, of, related tags" My view looks like: <h2><%= link_to 'Tag', tags_path %>: <%= @tag.name.titleize %></h2> <% @entries.each do |entry| %> <h2><%= link_to h(entry.name), entry %></h2> <%- unless entry.phone.empty? -%> <p><%= h(entry.phone) %></p> <%- end -%> <%- unless entry.address.empty? -%> <p><%= h(entry.address) %></p> <%- end -%> <%- unless entry.description.empty? -%> <p><%= h(entry.description) %></p> <%- end -%> <p2><%= link_to "more...", entry %><p2> <% end %> Related Tags: <% @related.each do |tag| %> <%= link_to h(tag.tags), tag %> <% end %> tags_controller.rb: def show @title = Tag.find(params[:id]).name @tag = Tag.find(params[:id]) @entries = Entry.paginate(Entry.find_tagged_with(@tag), :page => params[:page], :per_page => 10, :order => "name") @related = Entry.tagged_with(@tag, :on => :tags) end Every entry has at least one tag, it's required by the entry model. I'd like duplicate tags ignored and the current tag (the tag that the list belongs to) ignored. My current code displays this: Related Tags: Gardens Gardens ToursGardens Gardens is a link to the entry, not the tag gardens. ToursGardens is a link to the entry that includes those tags. My desired result would be: Related Tags: Gardens, Tours Each link would link to it's associated tag. Can anyone help me achieve this? I tried using a div_for but I don't think that was right.

  • Have error message show when form is created through AJAX

    - by Railslearner
    I have a page called /add that you can add a Dog on and the form is in its own partial. I'm using Simple Form and Twitter Bootstrap. I added the files for the main Bootstrap but use a gem for simple_form to work with it just so you know. DogsController # new.js.erb (deleted new.html.erb) def new @dog = Dog.new respond_to do |format| format.js end end # create.js.erb def create @dog = current_user.dogs.new(params[:dog]) respond_to do |format| if @dog.save format.html { redirect_to add_url, notice: 'Dog was successfully added.' } format.json { render json: @dog, status: :created, location: @dog} format.js else format.html { render 'pages/add' } format.json { render json: @dog.errors, status: :unprocessable_entity } end end end dogs/_form.html.erb <%= simple_form_for(@dog, :remote => true) do |f| %> <%= render :partial => "shared/error_message", :locals => { :f => f } %> <%= f.input :name %> <%= f.button :submit, 'Done' %> <% end %> This line: <%= render :partial => "shared/error_message", :locals => { :f => f } %> Is for bootstrap so it renders the errors html correctly. PagesController def add respond_to do |format| format.html end end pages/add.html.erb <div id="generate-form"> </div> dogs/new.js.erb $("#generate-form").html("<%= escape_javascript(render(:partial => 'dogs/form', locals: { dog: @dog })) %>"); Now how would I get this to render the error partial as if it was still on my dogs/new.html.erb since its being created through AJAX? I don't need client side validations do I?

  • Does acts-as-taggable-on work on heroku?

    - by Martin
Hello, I have a question: does the acts-as-taggable-on gem work on Heroku? I'been trying but it doesn't seem to work. In my development machine works okay. I'm wondering if it's maybe because Heroku uses PostgreSQL and my local env SQLite and for some reason postgresql is not supported by the special tagging "magic"? I couldn't find any related info to this, so I would like to know other experiences with this. I guess is pretty rare since both the gem and heroku are very popular. ActionView::Template::Error (undefined method `interests' for "#<About:0x2b35d6125728>":About): <% unless @user.about.interests.empty? %> <p><strong>interests and passions</strong><br /> <% @user.about.interests.each do |tag| %> <%= tag %>, <% end -%></p><% end %> In my about.rb model i have acts_as_taggable_on :interests, :music, :movies, :books, :tvs Thank you in advance!

  • Routing problem with calling a new method without an ID

    - by alkaloids
I'm trying to put together a form_tag that edits several Shift objects. I have the form built properly, and it's passing on the correct parameters. I have verified that the parameters work with updating the objects correctly in the console. However, when I click the submit button, I get the error: ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound in ShiftsController#update_individual Couldn't find Shift without an ID My route for the controller it is calling looks like this looks like this: map.resources :shifts, :collection => { :update_individual => :put } The method in ShiftsController is this: def update_individual Shift.update(params[:shifts].keys, params[:shifts].values) flash[:notice] = "Schedule saved" end The relevant form parts are these: <% form_tag( update_individual_shifts_path ) do %> ... (fields for...) <%= submit_tag "Save" %> <% end %> Why is this not working? If I browse to the url: "http://localhost:3000/shifts/update_individual/5" (or any number that corresponds to an existing shift), I get the proper error about having no parameters set, but when I pass parameters without an ID of some sort, it errors out. How do I make it stop looking for an ID at the end of the URL?

  • Add save callback to a single ActiveRecord instance, is it possible?

Is it possible to add a callback to a single ActiveRecord instance? As a further constraint this is to go on a library so I don't have control over the class (except to monkey-patch it). This is more or less what I want to do: def do_something_creazy message = Message.new message.on_save_call :do_even_more_crazy_stuff end def do_even_more_crazy_stuff(message) puts "Message #{message} has been saved! • No route matches when trying to edit

    - by mmichael
Here's the scoop: I've created a test app that allows users to create ideas and then add "bubbles" to these ideas. Currently, a bubble is just text. I've successfully linked bubbles to ideas. Furthermore, when a user goes to view an idea it lists all of the bubbles attached to that idea. The user can even delete the bubble for any given idea. My problem lies in editing bubbles. When a user views an idea, he sees the idea's content as well as any bubbles for that idea. As a result, I've set all my bubble controls (editing and deleting) inside the ideas "show" view. My code for editing a bubble for an idea is <%= link_to 'Edit Bubble', edit_idea_bubble_path %>. I ran rake routes to find the correct path for editing bubbles and that is what was listed. Here's my error: No route matches {:action=>"edit", :controller=>"bubbles"} In my bubbles controller I have: def edit @idea = Idea.find(params[:idea_id]) @bubble = @idea.bubbles.find(params[:id]) end def update @idea = Idea.find(params[:idea_id]) @bubble = @idea.bubbles.find(params[:id]) respond_to do |format| if @bubble.update_attributes(params[:bubble]) format.html { redirect_to(@bubble, :notice => 'Bubble was successfully updated.') } format.xml { head :ok } else format.html { render :action => "Edit" } format.xml { render :xml => @bubble.errors, :status => :unprocessable_entity } end end end To go a step further, I have the following in my routes.rb file resources :ideas do resources :bubbles end So far everything seems to function except when I try to edit a bubble. I'd love some guidance. Thanks!

  • Seed has_many relation using mass assignment

    - by rnd
Here are my two models: class Article < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :content has_many :comments end class Comment < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :content belongs_to :article end And I'm trying to seed the database in seed.rb using this code: Article.create( [{ content: "Hi! This is my first article!", comments: [{content: "It sucks"}, {content: "Best article ever!"}] }], without_protection: true) However rake db:seed gives me the following error message: rake aborted! Comment(#28467560) expected, got Hash(#13868840) Tasks: TOP => db:seed (See full trace by running task with --trace) It is possible to seed the database like this? If yes a follow-up question: I've searched some and it seems that to do this kind of (nested?) mass assignment I need to add 'accepts_nested_attributes_for' for the attributes I want to assign. (Possibly something like 'accepts_nested_attributes_for :article' for the Comment model) Is there a way to allow this similar to the 'without_protection: true'? Because I only want to accept this kind of mass assignment when seeding the database.
