  • What's the difference between SVN and Git for merging?

    As the title suggests, I am curious as to why so many people tout Git as a superior alternative to branching/merging over SVN. I am primarily curious because SVN merging sucks and I would like an alternative solution. How does Git handle merging better? How does it work? For example, in SVN, if I have the following line: Hello World! Then user1 changes it to: Hello World!1 then user2 changes it to: Hello World!12 Then user2 commits, then user1 commits, SVN would give you a conflict. Can Git resolve something simple as this?

  • jQuery autocomplete. Doesn't reveal existing matches.

    Hello fellow engineers. I have come across a problem I just can't solve. I am using autocomplete plugin for jQuery on an input. The HTML looks something like this: <tr id="row_house" class="no-display"> <td class="col_num">4</td> <td class="col_label">House Number</td> <td class="col_data"> <input type="text" title="House Number" name="house" id="house"/> <button class="pretty_button ui-state-default ui-corner-all button-finish">Get house info</button> </td> </tr> I am sure that this is the only id="house" field. Other fields that are before this one work fine with autocomplete, and it's basically the same algorithm (other variables, other data, other calls). Rarely at all after repeated presses I get the list (although much shorter than it should be) But if after that I press the second digit, the whole thing disappears again. P.S. I use Firefox 3.6.3 for development.

  • problem after uploading file to web host

    I have a .xml file in my App_Data folder, I can access it fine in my localhost, however after uploading it to my webhost I got the following: ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}\ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via , the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user. To grant ASP.NET access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access. So who should I grant access to read? There's 3 user in my web host and all seems to have read access set to them.. one is NETWORK_SERVICE, IUSR_MACHINENAME and my user. So what is wrong?

    1.If i have two lists say A and B made upp of different letters. [b,a,c] in list A and [b,d,c,e] in list B how can i get prolog to give me C,which is a list of elements that A has which are not included in list B Ex. So if i type difference([b,a,c],[b,d,c,e],C). I want the answer to read: C=[a] If i have two lists where list A is made up off [a,b,c] and list B is [c,a,b] i want the result to be Yes if i type: same([a,b,c],[c,a,b]). since they contain the same elements the fact that they are in a different order does not matter. Also it should only answer yes if all of the elements are the same not if 3/4 are right.

EX: 5 / | \ 4 3 2 /|\ 3 2 1 etc. My GameNode class has the following variables: private int number; private GameNode left, middle, right; Whenever I construct a tree with an integer greater than 28, I get a OutOfMemoryError. Is my recursive method just incredibly inefficient or is this natural? Thanks!

  • Windows XP - Repairing Corrupt System32\Config\System File

    My apologies for this long post. I would like to describe the mess I'm in then ask some questions about how to fix it: Starting up my Windows XP SP1 machine I got the following message: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM Tried restarting several times with same results then Googled the problem. Tried the fix described here: http://icrontic.com/articles/repair%5Fwindows%5Fxp (since my CPU does not have XD buffer overflow protection I did not set /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN as OS Load Option). This did not work. I then found another fix for the problem on hardwareanalysis.com: Basically, boot to dos prompt (or recovery console if available) and make backups of the following files:- c:\windows\system32\config\system (to c:\windows\tmp\system.bak) c:\windows\system32\config\software (to c:\windows\tmp\software.bak) c:\windows\system32\config\sam (to c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak) c:\windows\system32\config\security (to c:\windows\tmp\security.bak) c:\windows\system32\config\default (to c:\windows\tmp\default.bak) then delete the above files (not the backups!) then copy the above files in c:\windows\repair to the c:\windows\system32\config directory restart your computer This did work (and I wish I'd done it first, since it was completely reversible, unlike the first method). However, afterwards I found that all the user accounts on the PC were gone. I resurrected them by copying the backed up security file back into the system32\config folder (I may have copied the SAM file from backup as well, I cannot remember clearly now). Now the PC boots up and I can log in. However things are still not right. I tried to alter one of the user accounts and found I could not access the User Accounts in the Control Panel. Microsoft KB 919292 had a fix for the problem. However, the fix failed with a Windows Installer error: The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance. Windows Installer 3.1 was already installed. I reinstalled it but continued to get the Windows Installer error whenever I tried to run the fix in KB 919292. I have since noticed another three problems: 1) Several applications on the PC no longer run, eg Microsoft Word. Shortcuts no longer seem to do anything and if I run the executables directly (eg for Word by running C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\Winword.exe) I get a message similar to: "Microsoft Word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install the application." even though the executable is clearly visible in Windows Explorer (and even though Word actually opens - the error dialog appears after Word has opened. Clicking OK to the error dialog closes Word). 2) One or the other of the two fixes I tried for the original problem caused new user profiles to be created. eg My old user profile under the Documents and Settings folder was Simon. The old one still exists but there is now a new one called Simon.DBQ2515. Obviously the new one is being used because Opera (my browser that still works) no longer sees the bookmarks file under my old profile. 3) Probably as a result of fooling around with the Security file, when I try to boot off the Windows XP CD and run the Recovery Console I am now asked for the administrator password. The only problem is there is no administrator account on the PC. There is one account, LocalAdmin, that has administrative rights but when I entered the password for that account it did not work. It is so long since I originally set up the PC that I cannot remember if the original administrator account ever had a password and, if so, what it was. So, my question is: How can I fix this mess? In particular: 1) Having tried the two fixes linked to above, have I irrepairably damaged the Windows instance, requiring a clean reinstallation of Windows + all applications, or should it be possible to get the machine working correctly again without such drastic measures? 2) Is there any way to get around the administrator password so I can use the Recovery Console again, given that there is no account called "administrator" and the password for the one account with admin privileges does not work (and that, before I started the second fix, I was not asked for an administrator password)? 3) Is there any easy way to fix the problem with the applications that think they are not installed? 4) Is there any easy way to fix the problem of the Windows Installer that does not work, even if reinstalled?     There are several ways to get data from a query or a table|view to the clipboard. You know the tried and true, copy and paste. But what if you only want one or more columns, not every column? There are several ways to do this, let’s see if we can’t identify all of them. Write your query to only include the data you want Obvious? Yes. Needed to be said? Definitely. The best tuning tip is to only ask for the data you need, only when you absolutely need it. But let’s look at a few more practical ways to do this. Hide the unwanted columns Mouse right click on an column header. In the context menu, select ‘Columns.’ Hide the columns you don’t want. Copy and paste. WYSIWYG Grids, Hide Columns and Filter Rows Mouse select the columns Obvious, but a bit painful. For a very large dataset, you’ll be holding down the Shift and PageDown buttons – but it works. Remember to use Ctrl+Shift+C to get the column headers with the data. Use the Export Wizard This used to be called ‘Unload’ – agreed, not a great name. So, we changed it. In a grid, right mouse click on the data, and on the context menu, select ‘Export…’ Select your format – I suggest ‘delimited’ or ‘fixed’ for copying data to the clipboard. You can export to the clipboard, yes you can! Click ‘Next.’ Click in the Columns dialog, and choose the columns you want copied. Trim the columns you don't want copied Click ‘Finish.’ Alt or Ctrl tab to your window or application of choice. And Paste!   • SharpSVN Example Program Crashes

    I downloaded the SharpSVN example they give to try and test it out but I get this error when I try and run it. System.BadImageFormatException {"Could not load file or assembly 'SharpSvn, Version=1.4999.376.29668, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=d729672594885a28' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format."} After I downloaded I went to load the project, did the requested conversion with no errors then just tried to run it. Haven't been able to find a solution online.

  • jqGrid using a servlet to store the data, how to access the data from a different java class

    I'm using jqGrid for a table input and setting up the url as a servlet which will deal with the GET and POST requests and save the rows to a Java object. I'm using webwork web framework and I was wondering how I can get access to the object that the servlet is saving the data to. One way I have thought of is to just call the GET method from the Java action class which the servlet will return a JSON string with the object data. Is there a better design for doing this? This is probably not too clear so ask questions so I can help get across my point. Thanks

    Hi, i am designing a Chinese auction website. Tickets ($5, $10 & $20) are sold either individually, or via packages to receive discounts. There are various Ticket packages for example: 5-$5 tickets = receive 10% off 5-$10 tickets = receive 10% off 5-$20 tickets = receive 10% off 5-$5 tickets + 5-$10 tickets + 5-$20 tickets = receive 15% off When users add tickets to their cart, i need to figure out the cheapest package(s) to give them. the trick is that if a user adds 4-$5 tickets + 5-$10 tickets + 5-$20 tickets, it should still give him package #3 since that would be the cheapest for him. Any help in figuring out a algorithm to solve this, or any tips would be greatly appreciate it. thanks

  • jquery sortable scroll problem

    Hi I'm having problems using the sortable function of jQ:uery UI. The scroll doesn't seem to work.. If the second list ( lists are created on the table rows in a tbody and each tbody is connect ) isn't visible I want it to be possible to scroll towards it for dropping my table row. This is my HTML set up: <ul> <li> <ul> <li> <table class="treeleerling"> <tbody class="oder0"> <tr class="suborder0"> </tr> <tr class="sub1order"> </tr> </tbody> </table> </li> </ul> </li> <li> <ul> <li> <table class="treeleerling"> <tbody class="oder1"> <tr class="suborder0"> </tr> <tr class="suborder1"> </tr> </tbody> </table> </li> </ul> </li> </ul> And jQuery code $(document).ready(function() { $("#left tbody").sortable({ connectWith : '#left tbody', scroll : true, scrollSensitivity: 40, }); }); The sorting works fine, but the scrolling doesnt.. I'm doing something wrong or what? Plz help and advice.. Thx in advance!
