  • Possible to use screen lock as timeout? [duplicate]

    This question already has an answer here: Any app that tells me to take regular breaks from working? 3 answers What I'd like to do is lock the screen and have it wait a set amount of time (eg 20 mins) before it lets me log back in - so I make myself to have a break from the computer. Is it possible to do this? Thanks EDIT: Thanks for the suggestions - but I don't actually want something to remind me to take scheduled breaks. More something I can click when I realise I'm getting distracted and it'll immediately lock the screen for a fixed amount of time. Or even just lock screen if I can find a way to stop it letting me log in for 20 mins or so.

  • Configure mounting timeout at boot

    On remotely rebooting a 12.04 machine I found it hanging at the "unable to mount soandso: Skip, Manual Abort? " (That's pretty much how I remember the message) The machine was basically stopped there until I hooked up a keyboard and pressed "s". I can see the rationale for the question, but I'd really like to know where to configure it or turn it off altogether. A mandatory question like this makes sense in a desktop environment but for servers I'd like more flexibility. So where do I fiddle and tweak this?

  • Left mouse button not working in Xubuntu session

    I recent changed from Ubuntu to Xubuntu 12.04. The install worked great for a few days, but suddenly the left mouse button stopped working. The right click and scroll bars work fine. After a bit of experimenting I discovered that the problem only happens when I set the session to Xubuntu at login. The mouse also works fine in my dual-booted Windows vista. What could make my mouse stop working like that?

  • notify-send ignores timeout?

    Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but shouldn't the commands (run separately) notify-send -t 1 "test" notify-send -t 1000 "test" notify-send -t 10000 "test" Have different timeouts? The first being nearly instantaneous, the second one taking 1 sec and the third 100 seconds. In all cases it seems to take about six seconds. I'm using the development branch of Precise, if this isn't an issue in the released version I'll close this as being too localized, but I'm unable to test it now.

  • my application icon won't show in Ubuntu 12.04 session fallback mode

    I have a Python application that shows a systray icon, but it just won't appear in Ubuntu 12.04 session fallback mode (Gnome Classic WITH effects). It appears in 10.04, and in 12.04 with Unity. The problem is just in Gnome Classic. I've already set: gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist "['all']" and I installed indicator-applet-complete but Alt-Win-right click won't work Anyone has any idea what can be wrong ?

  • Cannot get grub menu to timeout (or go away)

    I am running Ubuntu 12.04. I cannot for the life of me get the grub menu (with options) to go away. I would like it to auto-boot into the first option. I've edited /etc/default/grub so that it looks like the following: GRUB_DEFAULT=0 GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0 GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true GRUB_TIMEOUT=10 GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian` GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" After this, I ran sudo update-grub. Then I realized that I had grub 2, so I ran sudo update-grub2 (both make it look like they create the grub.cfg file successfully. I restart my computer and it goes back to the grub menu and just sits there until I make a choice. This is not desirable if the power goes out... :-) I also tried reinstalling grub using sudo grub-install /dev/sda - also unsuccessful

    Hello, We have an application that uses a persistent cookie to store the language of the user and a session cookie for authentication. Now our site starts with a number of tests such as: javascript, cookies, flash plugin, sound and popup and only if all tests succeed you can go to the logon page. After logging in you can see the application. Now one of our clients has a serieus problem, she passes all the tests but upon logging in she goes to the default page and get's redirected tot the logon page again. (form authentication). Now I was wondering how this is possible. It's allmost like a persistent cookie is enabled (otherweise she's not able to skip the language page) and a session cookie isn't.   • flex debugger (how to retrieve a session variable set by a browser)

    hello, i'm creating a flex application and trying to debug using the "Network Monitor" view. The script i'm debugging fetches a PHP session variable (the PHP outputs xml) and the actionscript retrieves the value from the HTTPService event. if I am using say a chrome browser, i can correctly retrieve the session variable ANY TIME. if I switch to say a firefox browser, then clearly the chrome session variable is unavailable to firefox. My issue is that I create the session variable with say chrome, and then try to retrieve my session variable from my FLEX application debugger (which always returns null) -when I really want it to return my session variable. is there a way for my flex debugger to retrieve this session variable set by chrome (or any browser)? (I'm even using chrome as my debugging browser for flex)

    Hi, I have a PHP application that relies on session variables quite a lot. After login the user get redirected to a page that executes code to set up a load of session variables depending on who the user is. The application is using data from different sources and the sessions are used to store ID numbers to query the databases. So when the user goes to a page that will query their asset management system their ID for that particular database is called via the session. I've had a LOT of problems with session variables recently. Sometimes only one session file is created during the lifetime of the app, and sometimes each session request results in a new session id (still haven't managed to find out why!). My question is this. Is there an alternative to using session variables for this? Like globals or some other way? Any help most appreciated! Regards, Jonesy

    I'm running a Zend Framework powered website and it seems to have serious problems with sessions. I have a 5 step process where I save the form data in the session between the steps and then save it into the database on the last step. When we built the site sometimes the session just went away and forced us to restart. Now it seems to work again but recently we discovered an issue with Internet Explorer 8. It fails between step 2 - 3 and forgets the session. It works fine in IE6, IE7, FF, Chrome, Safari and even in my mobile web browser (SE P1). We're storing our sessions in the database and if I deactivate the session db handler it works. What's the difference between using the database and not using it for sessions? Do I loose something if I switch back?     I have an array that I want on multiple pages, so I made it a SESSION array. I want to add a series of names and then on another page, I want to be able to use a foreach loop to echo out all the names in that array. This is the session: $_SESSION['names'] I want to add a series of names to that array using array_push like this: array_push($_SESSION['names'],$name); I am getting this error: array_push() [function.array-push]: First argument should be an array Can I use array_push to put multiple values into that array? Or perhaps there is a better, more efficient way of doing what I am trying to achieve?

  • Is it possible to share session state between asp.net aspx page making a call to an asp.net webservi

    My Situation: I have 1 asp.net application with both aspx pages AND webservices I make calls (using ajax) to the webservice from an aspx page - all within the same asp.net application! Here is my problem/question Is there any way to share the session state? I.e. - the aspx page has a sessionID and the state is being maintained. When the call to the webservice is made, is there a way to automatically send the seesionID to the webservice and then be able to access the same session state from the webservice? -- That would greatly simplify my work! :) Many thanks for your ideas!!

    For each servlet request I get, I pass, perhaps, 10 methods before I am at where I need to check something in the session and I need the HttpSession. The only way I can get the HttpSession is from the HttpServletRequest, correct? How do I keep track of the session for each servlet request? Unfortuantly I cannot simple make a singleton (ex, SessionInformation.instance().getAttribute("name")) because that session would then be used over all requests. Is there a way to store the session globally for each request without having to pass it (or it's information) down all the methods just in case I need it?

  • Uniquely identify two instances of one browser that share Session state?

    I want to make sure that a user isn't editing the same form data in two different browser tabs or windows (of the same web browser instance). It's to stop the user from stupidly overwriting their own data as they continue through a very long form process. On the server ongoing data input through the screens is collected into the Session. Assume for any browser, all tabs and windows run in the same instance of it (i.e. not each in a separate process). Obviously the browser tabs and windows share the same cookies in this scenario so cookie modification seems out of the question for viable solutions. This is also the reason they shared the same session. Considering that the form is already created and this is one of the final touches, how can I use ASP.NET, hopefully easily, to oversee this "feature"?

  • Reason to use more cookies than just a session hash for authentication?

    I usually hang out in a community using vBulletin as its bulletin board. I was looking at what this software saves as cookie in my browser. As you can see it saves 6 cookies. Amongst them, what I consider to be important for authentification are: ngivbsessionhash: hash of the current session ngivbpassword: hash of the password ngivbuserid: user's id Those are my assumptions of course. I don't know for sure if ngilastactivity and ngilastvisit are used for the same reason. My question is: why use all these cookie for authentication? My guess would be that maybe generating a session hash would be to easy so using the hashedpassword and userid adds security but what about cookie spoofing? I'm basically leaving on the client all fundamental informations. What do you think?
