  • XNA Notes 008

    - by George Clingerman
This week has been a rough one. I’ve been sick and then in some kind of slump for my afternoon coding sessions. It could be from the cold, could be I’m still tired from writing that Windows Phone 7 game development book (which is out now!) or it could just be I’m tired of winter and want some sunshine. All I know is that even while I’m stick, the XNA world keeps going along at it’s whirlwind pace. Below are the things I caught in between my coughing fits.. • Google chrome is always searching in local google domain instead of Google.com

    - by Pablo
I have changed in the searched preferences to google.com but still when I do search from the address bar (instant or non-instant) it will go to google.co.kr. Even though I change "Google.com in English", still same... The only way is to open google.com website first, then do search in it. So the question - is there any way to force Chrome to search in Google.com instead of google.co.kr? I understand there is some geolocational checking/redirecting, but there must be some way to force...

  • WS2008 NTP - Using time.windows.com,0x9 - Time always skewed forwards

    - by David
I have a domain controller configured to use time.windows.com (with 0x09 flags set). I've noticed that frequently the systems' clock is fast - it varies from 10 minutes to even 45 minutes. I always have to keep resetting the system date/time back to what it should be. When I run "w32tm /query /source" it tells me it's using time.windows.com, and obviously I trust Microsoft not to serve incorrect times, but why is my server's clock fast? EDIT: There are a few Time-Service events in the System log: Event ID: 142 Message: The time service has stopped advertising as a time source because the local clock is not synchronized. Event ID: 139 Message: The time service has started advertising as a time source. These two messages appear in pairs every hour or so. Event 142 appears 14 to 16 minutes after 139 appears. Going back a few months, these events appear: Event ID: 35 Message: The time service is now synchronizing the system time with the time source time.windows.com,0x9 (ntp.m|0x9|0.0.0.0:123-65.55.21.21:123). Event ID: 37 Message: The time provider NtpClient is currently receiving valid time data from time.windows.com,0x9 (ntp.m|0x9|0.0.0.0:123-65.55.21.21:123). Event ID: 47 Message: Time Provider NtpClient: No valid response has been received from manually configured peer time.windows.com,0x9 after 8 attempts to contact it. This peer will be discarded as a time source and NtpClient will attempt to discover a new peer with this DNS name. The error was: The time sample was rejected because: The peer is not synchronized, or it has been too long since the peer's last synchronization. These three events only appear once in the log, back in October.

  • Fast way to search stackoverflow.com using google

Everytime I have to search something on stackoverflow.com using Google I have to type the rather long <search term> site:stackoverflow.com Is there some way to speedup the process, so that I need not type the whole 23 characters of site:stackoverflow.com each and every time? I am using Google Chrome.

  • ssh connection slow when using @hostname.com but now when using @ipaddress

    - by Alex Recarey
When connecting to a Debian server using ssh, if I use [email protected] (the IP address of hte server) the connection is instant. If however I use user@hostname.com (a DNS redirected to the IP address of the server) the ssh connection hangs for a 20 seconds before connecting successfully. The ssh logs show the following: [alex@alex home]$ ssh -v -v git@hotname.com OpenSSH_5.5p1, OpenSSL 1.0.0c-fips 2 Dec 2010 debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config debug1: Applying options for * debug2: ssh_connect: needpriv 0 and here it hangs during 20 seconds before continuing. I think it might have something to do with reverse DNS or similar (the server does not really "know" it's name is hostname.com, it just has that DNS rediriected to its IP address). I have added the following options to /etc/ssh/sshd_config: UseDNS no GSSAPIAuthentication no to no effect. The server's DNS records in /etc/resolv.conf are configured correctly: ping hostname.com PING sub.domain.com (X.X.X.X) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from replicant (X.X.X.X): icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.029 ms 64 bytes from replicant (X.X.X.X): icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.050 ms?s Thanks for the help. Solution: It seems the DSL router my ISP saddled me with was causing the trouble. Changing my DNS server from 192.168.1.1 (router's IP) to google's (8.8.8.8, always good to know when you are in a hurry) instantly solved the connection delay problem. I am guessing that the 50€ router provided does not cache DNS entries, although I don't understand why pinging the DNS address had no delay, and 20 seconds is too long of a wait, even for uncached DNS. Tnanks again for the help!

  • another "SSH connect to host github.com port 22: Bad file number"

    - by Mariusz
Hello. I have a problem with my first-time ssh connection. Yes, I've already done yours guides, already tried your "Dealing with firewalls and proxies" article and the problem is still occuring. I am using Win7 32bit, Windows Firewall is disabled, haven't any third-party firewalls, ESET Nod32 Antivirus is not blocking any ports, I am not using any PROXY (neither local proxy) . Here goes the logs: Ordinary SSH connection try C:\Users\Mariusz>ssh -vvv git@github.com OpenSSH_4.6p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8e 23 Feb 2007 debug2: ssh_connect: needpriv 0 debug1: Connecting to github.com [207.97.227.239] port 22. debug1: connect to address 207.97.227.239 port 22: Not owner ssh: connect to host github.com port 22: Bad file number NCAT connection try C:\Users\Mariusz>ncat github.com 22 Strange connect error from 207.97.227.239 (10013): No error 10013 = WSAEACCES I think that method called "smart-http-support" won't be usable for me because I haven't created repo yet. I have just GIT INIT locally, and finished at step GIT PUSH, which returns the same: ssh: connect to host github.com port 22: Bad file number fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly corkscrew method (first article from yours guide) . While PUTTYing (with pageant in bg), after inputing login - an error is occuring (MessageBox): Disconnected: No supported authentication methods available And in terminal such message is printing out: Server refused our key Key I have generated correctly, using ssh-keygen. I tried not method by editing ~/.ssh/config yet because I had thought that because I haven't PUSHed anything to my remote repo so I won't be able to CLONE anything. Method called ssh-forwarding is not for my, cause it "requires access to an external ssh server" and I haven't any at this time. What else could I do? Thanks in advance for any help. Mariusz.

  • Setup my domain at Whois.com as nameservers for a Dedicated Server with Kloxo

    - by BoDiE2003
Hello, this is my first time at ServerFault, I'm a stackoverflow user. I'm faceing the next problem and may be its me, but I can't find proper guides to set up a domain and nameservers for a dedicated box. I have a domain, at whois.com, and a Dedicated server at Reliable Hosting Services, the server has 5 IPs, I know that I need 2 of them for the nameservers. Right now, my domain at whois.com is using nsX.whois.com nameservers and it has 2 child nameservers: ns1.mydomain.com & ns2.mydomain.com pointing to those 2 IPs from my Server. Whats next? I still cannot set that domain as my main server domain since it says: To map an IP to a domain, the domain must ping to the same IP, otherwise, the domain will stop working. The domain you are trying to map this IP to, doesn't resolve back to the IP, and so it cannot be set as the default domain for the IP. Well and I'm stuck on those steps, whats next to have my nameservers working and my main domain assigned to my server? Thank you very much and happy new year!!

  • Is there an easy way to always redirect facebook.com to facebook.com/events/list (Firefox, Osx)

    - by Tor Thommesen
I often use facebook for communication while working. When I do, I'd rather not see the facebook newsfeed. Unfortunately it's hard to remember to not go to the frontpage and use facebook.com/messages or facebook.com/events. Is there any way to always redirect from the url https://www.facebook.com/ to https://www.facebook.com/events/list? I use firefox on osx. I have tried the redirector addon and I'm not able to make it work, not sure if I'm missing something obvious or if it's outdated/buggy.

  • How to avoid en.voyages-sncf.com redirecting to uk.voyages-sncf.com?

    - by Mark Smith
OK, so en.voyages-sncf.com is French Railways' English language website with full functionality for train booking in France - it sells iDTGV, offers seating options etc. uk.voyages-sncf.com is their UK subsidiary, with reduced functionality, no seat options, no iDTGV etc. Previously, I have been able to select 'Other countries (EUR)' top right and go from the uk version to the en version, or just type in the direct url 'en.voyages-sncf.com and go there. Now, they seem to have implemented an automatic redirect so whenever I enter 'en.voyages-sncf.com' on my UK-based PC or indeed try to select 'Other countries (EUR)' it automatically bumps me to uk.voyages-sncf.com, which I don't want. I can't get onto en.voyages-sncf at all. So, short of using a heavyweight solution like using a non-UK proxy server or downloading the TOR browser, is there any simple solution? Like telling my browser to go to en.voyages-sncf, go directly to en.voyages-sncf and no other site, do not pass go, do not collect £200, do not go anywhere else, ignore all redirects and do what you're told by ME, not by those Machiavellian so-and-sos?

  • Event notification for ::SCardListReaders() [migrated]

    - by dpb
In the PC/SC (Personal Computer Smart Card) Appln, I have (MSCAPI USB CCID based) 1) Calling ::SCardListReaders() returns SCARD_E_NO_READERS_AVAILABLE (0x8010002E). This call is made after OS starts fresh after reboot, from a thread which is part of my custom windows service. 2) Adding delay before ::SCardListReaders() call solves the problem. 3) How can I solve this problem elegantly ? Not using delay & waiting for some event to notify me. since a) Different machines may require different delay values b) Cannot loop since the error code is genuine c) Could not find this event as part of System Event Notification Service or similar COM interface d) platform is Windows 7 Any Help Appreciated.
