  • Can silverlight detect or communicate across browser instances?

    User starts up a silverlight application in their browser by navigating to a given URL. User then opens another browser and starts up the same silverlight application by navigating to the same URL. Can the second instance of the application detect that there is already an instance running on the same computer? Can it detect itself if both applications are running within the same browser instance? I would expect the answer to be 'no' but thought that i would ask it anyway. Otherwise i believe that i will have to setup a webservice and have each instance register itself and send requests to other instances from the same IP. does that sound reasonable?

  • Silverlight Calling an HttpHandler

    I have a Silverlight application that I'm trying to get to invoke an HttpHandler by using WebClient. I have the HttpHandler just sending an email that says test when invoked. If I hit it via a browser, I get the email. However, using a WebClient object with a delegate, I can't seem to get it to connect. I'm going to try a plain old WinForms app to test my code out later this evening, but wasn't sure if I was missing something in my Silverlight app. Any ideas?

    Hi, I have an issue trying to implement cascading comboboxes on Silverlight 3. I have two comboboxes: Product Type Sub Cathegory The user need to select the Product type, and based on his selection, the second combobox must load the sub cathegories. Binding the first combobox is a piece of cake: <ComboBox x:Name="cmbProductType" Margin="11,2,8,5" MaxDropDownHeight="100" Grid.Column="1 /> cmbProductType.ItemsSource = objFactory.ProductTypes; objFactory.Load(objFactory.GetProductTypesQuery()); My issue is trying to load the second combobox based on the first seleccion.     Hi all, My requirement is this. I am programmatically downloading a folder from a remote server in zipped format using WebClient. This part is done. My folder will have only DLLs and EXEs.   • ScrollViewr around expanders not scrolling automatically when expander is expanded - silverlight 3

    I have several expanders inside a ScrollViewer in a fixed sized ChildWindow. The problem is when each expander expanded,the scroll will not scrolling down automatically and as a result,some of the items in the bottom will get hidden and we have to manually scroll down to see them.     hi, I'm trying to call a windows workflow foundation published as a web service from a Silverlight project. When I call it from a console application it works fine because I can add a web reference then I just make an instance of that webservice then I invoke the method I want.   • What are my options for streaming for silverlight?

    I would like to implement limited scope streaming (LAN, multicast, even broadcast) where the client is implemented in silverlight. More importantly, I would like to stream from a desktop OS, not a server OS. As a result, I can't use the MS media server, which I believe requires WS2003 or WS2008. Ideally the solution would have some sort of API so I can plug in or provide a custom frame source. If I need to encode my own video, how can I encode using H.264 or another Silverlight supported codec? if I need to implement my own server, where can I find information about how a client starts to receive a stream? thank you! I know, it's a lot of questions, but it basically boils down to "how do I stream from a non-server OS?"

    I'm trying to update my Silverlight 4 UI approx every 1/2 second with new data. I've hooked into a WCF service using net.tcp binding and issuing callbacks from the server. To make sure I get the data from the service as quickly as possible I've started up my proxy on a backround worker inside of my Silverlight App. My question is, how do I get the results from the callback and update the ObservableCollection that is bound to a datagird? I've tried a number of different ways and keep getting the dreaded cross-thread error.

  • How to deal with the new line character in the Silverlight TextBox

    When using a multi-line TextBox (AcceptsReturn="True") in Silverlight, line feeds are recorded as \r rather than \r\n. This is causing problems when the data is persisted and later exported to another format to be read by a Windows application. I was thinking of using a regular expression to replace any single \r characters with a \r\n, but I suck at regex's and couldn't get it to work. Because there may be a mixture of line endings just blindy replacing all \r with \r\n doesn't cut it. So two questions really... If regex is the way to go what's the correct pattern? Is there a way to get Silverlight to respect it's own Environment.NewLine character in TextBox's and have it insert \r\n rather just a single \r?

    Hello, I'm using silverlight and I defined two styles for the page: ExpanderBottomRightButtonStyle ExpanderScaleStyle Now I want to add those two styles to the same control: <controls:Expander x:Name="expBRButton" Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="2" Margin="5" Style="{StaticResource ExpanderBottomRightButtonStyle}"> <controls:Expander.Content> <Button Content="&lt;Button&gt;"></Button> </controls:Expander.Content> </controls:Expander> I don't want to join the two styles in one, cause I need them separately too. I thought something like: Style="{StaticResource ExpanderBottomRightButtonStyle ExpanderScaleStyle}" But it's not possible. How should I do this? I'm new on Silverlight 3. Thanks in advance.

    Hi, I use LINQ to SQL to get data from a database and use a service contract to access it in Silverlight at the client side. I display the data in a DataGrid. Now how do I make sure that any changes in the datagrid is written back to the database? EDIT: This is the example code I implemented: http://www.silverlight.net/learn/tutorials/sqldatagrid-cs/ Here I wanted any change in the datagrid reflected back in the database. The SubmitChanges function works in the DataContext object which is: public partial class DataClasses1DataContext : System.Data.Linq.DataContext But this is not exposed in the contract and so not visible in the client side code.

    I am writting a Silverlight Business Application with WCF RIA link. I have 2 databases on same SQL server, Public and Private. The Public database contains a table which is mostly for public access level, like "user" table which has basic user information The Private database contains a table which has "private" information, user bank transactions etc I created 2 ADO.Net entity models, one each for Private and Public database and selected the tables. I also created 2 different domain context services On on Silverlight page, I need to get information from the tables that are across 2 databases, Private and Public as described above. How do I achieve this? I am thinking of some kind of a wrapper that internally gets data from domain services. Whats the best approach?

  • How to Print reports in Silverlight 4

    I am wondering if there is anything built in to Silverlight, or possibly c# to allow for printing reports? I'd be happy with any number of methods: exporting files to a pdf format and printing from there, exporting as a text document of some sort and printing from there, or just simply showing the print dialog from the web application itself. I know there are ways to do this in C#, but the c# code-behind is different for many things in Silverlight applications and I can't seem to find anything that will work. So if anyone has any ideas on things I could try it would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

I have created few basic Silverlight applications which are working fine standalone. I also have a basic ASP.NET application with a solution with around 10 Class Library Projects and 1 website. I want to create a small popup which will have some funtionality using Silverlight. How should I go about creating this application and how to integrate it with my existing application for it to show as a link. I would not want that link to open another application/site. Thanks.

    Hi guys I need to be able to render a silverlight storyboard animation to video. The animated content itself could be simple UIElements, Images or even two or more videos playing at the same time. Several ideas came to mind like RenderTargetBitmap on a single frame basis, but: 1) I've never tested this against video embedded content 2) Don't know how to actually compose the video from the generated images. Expression Encoder was also on my mind, but I don't know if it's possible to integrate it in a Silverlight/XBAP app to fulfill what's expected from it. What's your opinion on this?

  • Silverlight hangs at 100% loaded.

    My Silverlight website hangs at 100% loaded. There is no code for it, so far it is just the design in XAML, and it shows up fine in Expression Blend 3. It is the standard "Silverlight Website" project from Blend 3, without any modifications. When I press F5 to run it, it shows as a 100% loading circle in firefox and never actually shows my app. The loading circle continues to animate as if its doing something. Note: It worked yesterday, and I havent made very many changes to it since then.

    I've been working on a little Silverlight utility which calls a Silverlight web service. It works from my dev machine (XPsp2). I've tried publishing it to a 2008 R2 IIS 7.5 server and it doesn't work when trying to contact the web service. So I've tried using the WcfTestClient to connect to the web service.   • How do I use DomainContext.Load in my ViewModel?

    I'm trying to use RIA services to provide data to my Silverlight application by calling DomainContext.Load to retrieve a collection of widgets. I want to expose this collection through a property of the ViewModel so I can bind a control to the collection in my page. I think my approach must be fundamentally wrong because Load is called asynchronously and is therefore not available when my page loads and the control tried to bind. Can someone please show me the right way to do this?     I have got an error while trying to upgrade our large project to SL4. I didn't write the original theme and my theme knowlege isn't great. In my demo app I have a Label and a LabelHeader(which i have created and is just a derived class from Label with DefaultStyleKey = typeof(LabelHeader); I am styling lthem like this: <Style TargetType="themeControls:LabelHeader"> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate> <DataInput:Label FontSize="{TemplateBinding FontSize}" FontFamily="{TemplateBinding FontFamily}" Foreground="{TemplateBinding Foreground}" Content="{TemplateBinding Content}"/> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> <Setter Property="FontFamily" Value="Tahoma"/> <Setter Property="FontSize" Value="20"/> <Setter Property="Foreground" Value="Red"/> </Style> This works in SL3 but in SL4 I get: Error: Unhandled Error in Silverlight Application Code: 2500 Category: ParserError Message: The property 'Content' was not found in type 'System.Windows.Controls.Control'. File: Line: 9 Position: 168 If I change this: Content="{TemplateBinding Content}" to Content="XXX" Then there is no error but , of course, I get XXX in my label rather than the content I set in XAML on the page Any ideas how I can get this working?
