  • What's the difference between these Asus socket 1155 motherboards?

    - by Johnny W
I've looked on Asus's website, but they don't make it easy to understand what the differences are, and there's so many models to choose from! It's all spiel, and endless specs. How is anybody supposed to rifle through so much detail in order to make note of minor differences? If anyone already has this knowledge, I'd love to know what the major differences between these Z77 models are: P8Z77-V P8Z77-V DELUXE P8Z77-V LE P8Z77-V LE PLUS P8Z77-V LK P8Z77-V LX P8Z77-V PREMIUM P8Z77-V PRO P8Z77-V PRO/THUNDERBOLT Asus are famous for offering lots of solutions, but if there's no easy way to see the differences, how can you even consider what to buy? Their website does include a Comparison tool, but it's broken: I'm primarily interested in 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6, if that makes the task any easier. I'm sure there are people who have this knowledge. Thanks for any help.

  • How many per-core licenses do I need?

    - by GavinPayneUK
With SQL Server 2012, your licensing requirements can chose to use or be required to use a per-core model depending on the edition you’re deploying. This is a change to previous editions which used a per-CPU socket model that made counting how many per-CPU licences you needed easier – cores and HyperThreading didn’t influence the CPU socket count.  Any complications which people did have typically came from running SQL Server in a virtualised environment, was a vCPU a socket or did licensing...(read more)

  • Communicating with a remote host via HTTPS

    - by user619818
I have developed a solution where a Java applet makes a socket connection to a port on a socket server (which happens to run on a web server). But a new client has implemented https within their LAN and so I am told communication must be via HTTPS. With standard socket communication you connect to a port on a host. But the clients HTTPS uses port 443. So will it be possible to connect to a socket server using a different port? I assume it must be possible? Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Do I have to bind an UDP socket in my client program, to receive data? (I always get WASEINVAL)...

    - by Incubbus
Hey There, I have the following problem: I am starting WSA, then I am creating a UDP socket (AF_INET, SOCK_DGRAM, IPPROTO_UDP) and try to recvfrom on this socket, but it always returns -1 and I get WSAEINVAL (10022)... I don´t know why?... When I bind the port, that does not happen... But it is very lame to bind the clients socket... (As far as I remember, i never had this problem before:/ )... Anyone knows why this happens?... (I am sending data to my server, which anwsers[ or at least, tries to^^])... Inc::STATS CConnection::_RecvData(sockaddr* addr, std::string &strData) { int ret, len, fromlen; //return code / length of the data / sizeof(sockaddr) char *buffer; //will hold the data char c; //recv length of the message fromlen = sizeof(sockaddr); ret = recvfrom(m_InSock, &c, 1, 0, addr, &fromlen); if(ret != 1) { #ifdef __MYDEBUG__ std::stringstream ss; ss << WSAGetLastError(); MessageBox(NULL, ss.str().c_str(), "", MB_ICONERROR | MB_OK); #endif return Inc::ERECV; }...

  • How to launch a Windows service network process to listen to a port on a localhost socket that is vi

    - by rwired
Here's the code (in a standard TService in Delphi): const ProcessExe = 'MyNetApp.exe'; function RunService: Boolean; var StartInfo : TStartupInfo; ProcInfo : TProcessInformation; CreateOK : Boolean; begin CreateOK := false; FillChar(StartInfo,SizeOf(TStartupInfo),#0); FillChar(ProcInfo,SizeOf(TProcessInformation),#0); StartInfo.cb := SizeOf(TStartupInfo); CreateOK := CreateProcess(nil, PChar(ProcessEXE),nil, nil,False, CREATE_NEW_PROCESS_GROUP+NORMAL_PRIORITY_CLASS, nil, PChar(InstallDir), StartInfo, ProcInfo); CloseHandle(ProcInfo.hProcess); CloseHandle(ProcInfo.hThread); Result := CreateOK; end; procedure TServicel.ServiceExecute(Sender: TService); const IntervalsBetweenRuns = 4; //no of IntTimes between checks IntTime = 250; //ms var Count: SmallInt; begin Count := IntervalsBetweenRuns; //first time run immediately while not Terminated do begin Inc(Count); if Count >= IntervalsBetweenRuns then begin Count := 0; //We check to see if the process is running, //if not we run it. That's all there is to it. //if ProcessEXE crashes, this service host will just rerun it if processExists(ProcessEXE)=0 then RunService; end; Sleep(IntTime); ServiceThread.ProcessRequests(False); end; end; MyNetApp.exe is a SOCKS5 proxy listening on port 9870. Users configure their browser to this proxy which acts as a secure-tunnel/anonymizer. All works perfectly fine on 2000/XP/2003, but on Vista/Win7 with UAC the service runs in Session0 under LocalSystem and port 9870 doesn't show up in netstat for the logged-in user or Administrator. Seems UAC is getting in my way. Is there something I can do with the SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES or CreateProcess, or is there something I can do with CreateProcessAsUser or impersonation to ensure that a network socket on a service is available to logged-in users on the system (note, this app is for mass deployment, I don't have access to user credentials, and require the user elevate their privileges to install a service on Vista/Win7)

  • Connect two client sockets

    - by Hernán Eche
Good morning, let's say Java has two kind of sockets... server sockets "ServerSocket" client sockets or just "Socket" ////so Simple ! Imagine the situation of two processes: X Client <-- Y Server The server process Y : has a "ServerSocket", that is listening to a TCP port The client process X : send a connection request through a -client type- "Socket" X ////so Simple ! then the accept() method (in server Y) returns a new client type "Socket", when it occurs, great the two Sockets get "interconected", so the -client socket- in client process, is connected with the -client socket- in the server process then (reading/writing in socket X is like reading/writing in socket Y, and viceversa. ) TWO CLIENT SOCKETS GET INTERCONECTED!! ////so Simple ! BUT... (there is always a But..) What if I create the two CLIENT sockets in same process, and I want to get them "interconected" ? ////mmm Complex =(... even posible? Let's say how to have TWO CLIENT SOCKETS GET INTERCONECTED WITHOUT using an intermediate ServerSocket ? I 've solved it.. by creating two threads for continuously reading A and writing B, and other for reading B and writng A... but I think could be a better way..(or should!) (Those world-energy-consuming threads are not necessary with the client-server aproach) Any help or advice would be appreciated!! Thanks

  • help with Firefox extension

    - by Johnny Grass
I'm writing a Firefox extension that creates a socket server which will output the active tab's URL when a client makes a connection to it. I have the following code in my javascript file: var serverSocket; function startServer() { var listener = { onSocketAccepted : function(socket, transport) { try { var outputString = gBrowser.currentURI.spec + "\n"; var stream = transport.openOutputStream(0,0,0); stream.write(outputString,outputString.length); stream.close(); } catch(ex2){ dump("::"+ex2); } }, onStopListening : function(socket, status){} }; try { serverSocket = Components.classes["@mozilla.org/network/server-socket;1"] .createInstance(Components.interfaces.nsIServerSocket); serverSocket.init(7055,true,-1); serverSocket.asyncListen(listener); } catch(ex){ dump(ex); } document.getElementById("status").value = "Started"; } startServer(); As it is, it works for multiple tabs in a single window. If I open multiple windows, it ignores the additional windows. I think it is creating a server socket for each window, but since they are using the same port, the additional sockets fail to initialize. I need it to create a server socket when the browser launches and continue running when I close the windows (Mac OS X). As it is, when I close a window but Firefox remains running, the socket closes and I have to restart firefox to get it up an running. How do I go about that?

  • Should I close sockets from both ends?

    - by Roman
I have the following problem. My client program monitor for availability of server in the local network (using Bonjour, but it does not rally mater). As soon as a server is "noticed" by the client application, the client tries to create a socket: Socket(serverIP,serverPort);. At some point the client can loose the server (Bonjour says that server is not visible in the network anymore). So, the client decide to close the socket, because it is not valid anymore. At some moment the server appears again. So, the client tries to create a new socket associated with this server. But! The server can refuse to create this socket since it (server) has already a socket associated with the client IP and client port. It happens because the socket was closed by the client, not by the server. Can it happen? And if it is the case, how this problem can be solved? Well, I understand that it is unlikely that the client will try to connect to the server from the same port (client port), since client selects its ports randomly. But it still can happen (just by chance). Right?

  • Node.js, Cygwin and Socket.io walk into a bar... Node.js throws ENOBUFS and everyone dies...

    - by A Wizard Did It
I'm hoping someone here can help me out, I'm not having much luck figuring this out myself. I'm running node.js version 0.3.1 on Cygwin. I'm using Connect and Socket.io. I seem to be having some random problems with DNS or something, I haven't quite figured it out. The end result is that I the server is running fine, but when a browser attempts to connect to it the initial HTTP Request works, Socket.io connects, and then the server dies (output below). I don't think it has anything to do with the HTTP request because the server gets a lot data posted to it, and it was receiving requests and responding up until my connection that killed it. I've googled around and the closest thing I've found is DNS being set improperly. It's a network program meant to run only on an internal network, so I've set the nameserver x.x.x.x in my /etc/resolv.conf to the internal DNS. I've also added nameserver 8.8.8.8 in addition. I'm not sure what else to check, but would be grateful of any help. I've edited the source to include && errno != ENOBUFS which now prevents the server from dying, however now the LDAP request isn't working. I'm not sure what the problem is that would cause that though. As I mentioned this is an internal only application, so I set the DNS servers in /etc/resolv.conf to the DNS servers that are being applied to the host machine. Not sure if this is part of the issue? EDIT 2 Here's some output from gdb --args ./node_g --debug ../myscript.js. I'm not sure if this is related to ENOBUFS, however, as it seems to be disconnecting immediately after connection with Socket.io [New thread 672.0x100] Error: dll starting at 0x76e30000 not found. • How the clients (client sockets) are identified?

    - by Roman
To my understanding by serverSocket = new ServerSocket(portNumber) we create an object which potentially can "listen" to the indicated port. By clientSocket = serverSocket.accept() we force the server socket to "listen" to its port and to "accept" a connection from any client which tries to connect to the server through the port associated with the server. When I say "client tries to connect to the server" I mean that client program executes "nameSocket = new Socket(serverIP,serverPort)". If client is trying to connect to the server, the server "accepts" this client (i.e. creates a "client socket" associated with this client). If a new client tries to connect to the server, the server creates another client socket (associated with the new client). But how the server knows if it is a "new" client or an "old" one which has already its socket? Or, in other words, how the clients are identified? By their IP? By their IP and port? By some "signatures"? What happens if an "old" client tries to use Socket(serverIP,serverIP) again? Will server create the second socket associated with this client?

  • SSL / HTTP / No Response to Curl

    - by Alex McHale
I am trying to send commands to a SOAP service, and getting nothing in reply. The SOAP service is at a completely separate site from either server I am testing with. I have written a dummy script with the SOAP XML embedded. When I run it at my local site, on any of three machines -- OSX, Ubuntu, or CentOS 5.3 -- it completes successfully with a good response. I then sent the script to our public host at Slicehost, where I fail to get the response back from the SOAP service. It accepts the TCP socket and proceeds with the SSL handshake. I do not however receive any valid HTTP response. This is the case whether I use my script or curl on the command line. I have rewritten the script using SOAP4R, Net::HTTP and Curb. All of which work at my local site, none of which work at the Slicehost site. I have tried to assemble the CentOS box as closely to match my Slicehost server as possible. I rebuilt the Slice to be a stock CentOS 5.3 and stock CentOS 5.4 with the same results. When I look at a tcpdump of the bad sessions on Slicehost, I see my script or curl send the XML to the remote server, and nothing comes back. When I look at the tcpdump at my local site, I see the response just fine. I have entirely disabled iptables on the Slice. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing these results? Please let me know what additional information I can furnish. Thank you! Below is a wire trace of a sample session. The IP that starts with 173 is my server while the IP that starts with 12 is the SOAP server's. Hi, I am running some application on Tomcat 6.0.26. There is Apache in front of web server talking to it over mod_jk. Every few hours when I try to access application browser simply spins, and no content is retrieved. No error is reported in Tomcat logs, but I fond such errors in mod_jk log: [Sun Jul 04 21:19:13 2010][error] ajp_service::jk_ajp_common.c (1758): Error connecting to tomcat. • SocketException (Timeout) only when running as scheduled task

    - by BVartin
I'm running a C# web-scrapper application (that I wrote) on a Windows Server 2003 instance under a user belonging to the local Administrator group. When I run it within a desktop/remote-desktop session the application runs successfully but when I schedule it to run under the same user/security-context outside of the desktop session, all socket connections timeout. The scheduled task calls a batch file which in-turn calls the application. The Windows Server 2003 instance has a very basic configuration and isn't even connected to a domain. I cannot find anything in any firewall or security configuration which is preventing this but maybe I have overlooked something, can anyone be of any assistance? • How to use CFNetwork to get byte array from sockets?

    - by Vic
Hi, I'm working in a project for the iPad, it is a small program and I need it to communicate with another software that runs on windows and act like a server; so the application that I'm creating for the iPad will be the client. I'm using CFNetwork to do sockets communication, this is the way I'm establishing the connection: char ip[] = "192.168.0.244"; NSString *ipAddress = [[NSString alloc] initWithCString:ip]; /* Build our socket context; this ties an instance of self to the socket */ CFSocketContext CTX = { 0, self, NULL, NULL, NULL }; /* Create the server socket as a TCP IPv4 socket and set a callback */ /* for calls to the socket's lower-level connect() function */ TCPClient = CFSocketCreate(NULL, PF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, IPPROTO_TCP, kCFSocketDataCallBack, (CFSocketCallBack)ConnectCallBack, &CTX); if (TCPClient == NULL) return; /* Set the port and address we want to listen on */ struct sockaddr_in addr; memset(&addr, 0, sizeof(addr)); addr.sin_len = sizeof(addr); addr.sin_family = AF_INET; addr.sin_port = htons(PORT); addr.sin_addr.s_addr = inet_addr([ipAddress UTF8String]); CFDataRef connectAddr = CFDataCreate(NULL, (unsigned char *)&addr, sizeof(addr)); CFSocketConnectToAddress(TCPClient, connectAddr, -1); CFRunLoopSourceRef sourceRef = CFSocketCreateRunLoopSource(kCFAllocatorDefault, TCPClient, 0); CFRunLoopAddSource(CFRunLoopGetCurrent(), sourceRef, kCFRunLoopCommonModes); CFRelease(sourceRef); CFRunLoopRun(); And this is the way I sent the data, which basically is a byte array /* The native socket, used for various operations */ // TCPClient is a CFSocketRef member variable CFSocketNativeHandle sock = CFSocketGetNative(TCPClient); Byte byteData[3]; byteData[0] = 0; byteData[1] = 4; byteData[2] = 0; send(sock, byteData, strlen(byteData)+1, 0); Finally, as you may have noticed, when I create the server socket, I registered a callback for the kCFSocketDataCallBack type, this is the code. void ConnectCallBack(CFSocketRef socket, CFSocketCallBackType type, CFDataRef address, const void *data, void *info) { // SocketsViewController is the class that contains all the methods SocketsViewController *obj = (SocketsViewController*)info; UInt8 *unsignedData = (UInt8 *) CFDataGetBytePtr(data); char *value = (char*)unsignedData; NSString *text = [[NSString alloc]initWithCString:value length:strlen(value)]; [obj writeToTextView:text]; [text release]; } Actually, this callback is being invoked in my code, the problem is that I don't know how can I get the data that the windows client sent me, I'm expecting to receive an array of bytes, but I don't know how can I get those bytes from the data param. If anyone can help me to find a way to do this, or maybe me point me to another way to get the data from the server in my client application I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

  • Spring/RMI server error

    - by 4herpsand7derpsago
We have a Spring MVC web app (WAR) deploying to Tomcat (6.0.35) that launches a thread inside a separate JVM at deploy time (don't ask why - not my design) and then communicates with that thread via RMI over port 8888. Despite being totally convoluded, this was working perfectly fine up until yesterday, and now the thread is failing at startup and despite our best efforts to add logging into the mix, we are hitting a wall. This is the only exception we are able to find in the logs: Jun 12, 2012 3:11:36 AM com.ourapp.ImageController destroy SEVERE: Shutdown Error: Lookup of RMI stub failed; nested exception is java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host: localhost; nested exception is: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused Jun 12, 2012 3:11:37 AM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext listenerStop SEVERE: Exception sending context destroyed event to listener instance of class org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoaderListener java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/springframework/web/context/ContextCleanupListener at org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoaderListener.contextDestroyed(ContextLoaderListener.java:80) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext.listenerStop(StandardContext.java:3973) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext.stop(StandardContext.java:4577) at org.apache.catalina.startup.HostConfig.checkResources(HostConfig.java:1165) at org.apache.catalina.startup.HostConfig.check(HostConfig.java:1271) at org.apache.catalina.startup.HostConfig.lifecycleEvent(HostConfig.java:296) at org.apache.catalina.util.LifecycleSupport.fireLifecycleEvent(LifecycleSupport.java:119) at org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.backgroundProcess(ContainerBase.java:1337) at org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase$ContainerBackgroundProcessor.processChildren(ContainerBase.java:1601) at org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase$ContainerBackgroundProcessor.processChildren(ContainerBase.java:1610) at org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase$ContainerBackgroundProcessor.run(ContainerBase.java:1590) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:662) Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.springframework.web.context.ContextCleanupListener at org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader.loadClass(WebappClassLoader.java:1387) at org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader.loadClass(WebappClassLoader.java:1233) ... 12 more The ImageController is the Spring MVC Controller that is responsible for kicking off this daemon/spawned RMI thread. Based on the verbage of this error, does anybody have any idea what might be causing this "connection refused" error? Running a netstat -an | grep 8888 (this is a Linux machine) produces no output which means nothing is listening on that port. Thanks in advance for any ideas/suggestions that lead to a fix. • Sockets, Threads and Services in android, how to make them work together ?

    - by Spredzy
    Hi all, I am facing a probleme with threads and sockets I cant figure it out, if someone can help me please i would really appreciate. There are the facts : I have a service class NetworkService, inside this class I have a Socket attribute. I would like it be at the state of connected for the whole lifecycle of the service. To connect the socket I do it in a thread, so if the server has to timeout, it would not block my UI thread. Problem is, into the thread where I connect my socket everything is fine, it is connected and I can talk to my server, once this thread is over and I try to reuse the socket, in another thread, I have the error message Socket is not connected. Questions are : - Is the socket automatically disconnected at the end of the thread? - Is their anyway we can pass back a value from a called thread to the caller ? Thanks a lot, Here is my code public class NetworkService extends Service { private Socket mSocket = new Socket(); private void _connectSocket(String addr, int port) { Runnable connect = new connectSocket(this.mSocket, addr, port); new Thread(connect).start(); } private void _authentification() { Runnable auth = new authentification(); new Thread(auth).start(); } private INetwork.Stub mBinder = new INetwork.Stub() { @Override public int doConnect(String addr, int port) throws RemoteException { _connectSocket(addr, port); _authentification(); return 0; } }; class connectSocket implements Runnable { String addrSocket; int portSocket; int TIMEOUT=5000; public connectSocket(String addr, int port) { addrSocket = addr; portSocket = port; } @Override public void run() { SocketAddress socketAddress = new InetSocketAddress(addrSocket, portSocket); try { mSocket.connect(socketAddress, TIMEOUT); PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(mSocket.getOutputStream(), true); out.println("test42"); Log.i("connectSocket()", "Connection Succesful"); } catch (IOException e) { Log.e("connectSocket()", e.getMessage()); e.printStackTrace(); } } } class authentification implements Runnable { private String constructFirstConnectQuery() { String query = "toto"; return query; } @Override public void run() { BufferedReader in; PrintWriter out; String line = ""; try { in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(mSocket.getInputStream())); out = new PrintWriter(mSocket.getOutputStream(), true); out.println(constructFirstConnectQuery()); while (mSocket.isConnected()) { line = in.readLine(); Log.e("LINE", "[Current]- " + line); } } catch (IOException e) {e.printStackTrace();} } }

  • Establishing a tcp connection from within a DLL

    - by Nicholas Hollander
I'm trying to write a piece of code that will allow me to establish a TCP connection from within a DLL file. Here's my situation: I have a ruby application that needs to be able to send and receive data over a socket, but I can not access the native ruby socket methods because of the environment in which it will be running. I can however access a DLL file and run the functions within that, so I figured I would create a wrapper for winsock. Unfortunately, attempting to take a piece of code that should connect to a TCP socket in a normal C++ application throws a slew of LNK2019 errors that I can not for the life of me resolve. This is the method I'm using to connect: //Socket variable SOCKET s; //Establishes a connection to the server int server_connect(char* addr, int port) { //Start up Winsock WSADATA wsadata; int error = WSAStartup(0x0202, &wsadata); //Check if something happened if (error) return -1; //Verify Winock version if (wsadata.wVersion != 0x0202) { //Clean up and close WSACleanup(); return -2; } //Get the information needed to finalize a socket SOCKADDR_IN target; target.sin_family = AF_INET; //Address family internet target.sin_port = _WINSOCKAPI_::htons(port); //Port # target.sin_addr.s_addr = inet_addr(addr); //Create the socket s = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, IPPROTO_TCP); if (s == INVALID_SOCKET) { return -3; } //Try connecting if (connect(s, (SOCKADDR *)&target, sizeof(target)) == SOCKET_ERROR) { //Failed to connect return -4; } else { //Success return 1; } } The exact errors that I'm receiving are: Error 1 error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _closesocket@4 referenced in function _server_disconnect [Project Path] Error 2 error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _connect@12 referenced in function _server_connect [Project Path] Error 3 error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _htons@4 referenced in function _server_connect [Project Path] Error 4 error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _inet_addr@4 referenced in function _server_connect [Project Path] Error 5 error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _socket@12 referenced in function _server_connect [Project Path] Error 6 error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _WSAStartup@8 referenced in function _server_connect [Project Path] Error 7 error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _WSACleanup@0 referenced in function _server_connect [Project Path] Error 8 error LNK1120: 7 unresolved externals [Project Path] 1 1 Many thanks!

  • waiting for 2 different events in a single thread

    - by João Portela
component A (in C++) - is blocked waiting for alarm signals (not relevant) and IO signals (1 udp socket). has one handler for each of these. component B (java) - has to receive the same information the component A udp socket receives. periodicaly gives instructions that should be sent through component A udp socket. How to join both components? it is strongly desirable that: the changes to attach component B to component A are minimal (its not my code and it is not very pleasent to mess with). the time taken by the new operations (usually communicating with component B) interfere very little with the usual processing time of component A - this means that if the operations are going to take a "some" time I would rather use a thread or something to do them. note: since component A receives udp packets more frequently that it has component B instructions to forward, if necessary, it can only forward the instructions (when available) from the IO handler. my initial ideia was to develop a component C (in C++) that would sit inside the component A code (is this called an adapter?) that when instanciated starts the java process and makes the necessary connections (that not so little overhead in the initialization is not a problem). It would have 2 stacks, one for the data to give component B (lets call it Bstack) and for the data to give component A (lets call it Astack). It would sit on its thread (lets call it new-thread) waiting for data to be available in Bstack to send it over udp, and listen on the udp socket to put data on the Astack. This means that the changes to component A are only: when it receives a new UDP packet put it on the Bstack, and if there is something on the Astack sent it over its UDP socket (I decided for this because this socket would only be used in the main thread). One of the problems is that I don't know how to wait for both of these events at the same time using only one thread. so my questions are: Do I really need to use the main thread to send the data over component A socket or can I do it from the new-thread? (I think the answer is no, but I'm not sure about race conditions on sockets) how to I wait for both events? boost::condition_variable or something similar seems the solution in the case of the stack and boost::asio::io_service io_service.run() seems like the thing to use for the socket. Is there any other alternative solution for this problem that I'm not aware of? Thanks for reading this long text but I really wanted you to understand the problem.

  • sending and receiving with sockets in java?

    - by Darksole
    I am working on sending and receiving from clients and servers in java, and am stumped at the moment. the client socket is to contact a server at “localhost” port 4321. The client will receive a string from the server and alternate spelling the contents of this string with the server. For example, given the string “Bye Bye”, the client (which always begins sending the first letter) sends “B”, receives “y”, sends “e”, receives “ ”, sends “B”, receives “y”, sends “e”, and receives “done!”, which is the string that either client or server will send after the last letter from the original string is received. After “done!” is transmitted, both client and server close their communications. How would i go about getting the first string and then going back and forth sending and reciving letters that make the string, and when finished either send or get done!? import java.io.IOException; import java.io.InputStream; import java.io.OutputStream; import java.io.PrintWriter; import java.net.Socket; import java.net.UnknownHostException; import java.util.Scanner; public class Program2 { public static void goClient() throws UnknownHostException, IOException{ String server = "localhost"; int port = 4321; Socket socket = new Socket(server, port); InputStream inStream = socket.getInputStream(); OutputStream outStream = socket.getOutputStream(); Scanner in = new Scanner(inStream); PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(outStream, true); String rec = ""; if(in.hasNext()){ rec = in.nextLine(); } char[] array = new char[rec.length()]; for(int i = 0; i < rec.length(); i++){ array[i] = rec.charAt(i); } while(in.hasNext()){ for(int x = 0; x < array.length + 1; x+=2){ String str = in.nextLine(); str = Character.toString(array[x]); out.println(str); } in.close(); socket.close(); } } }
