  • How to install Ubuntu One server software or alternative for personal use?

    I have a Debian based box in my house that runs as a webserver, and a 4GB bootable usb-stick with Ubuntu. I need to store stuff on a server and Ubuntu One seems an ok way to go but I find that 2GB is not sufficient. I can most likely solve that when I install this server software. Where can I find it - there is no ubuntu-one-server package or similar in the Software Centre. How can I install the Ubuntu One server software or an alternative?

  • Ubuntu 14.04 and Android, can't see phone on my computer

    I have installed gMTP and tried to follow this tutorial to solve this problem: http://www.webupd8.org/2013/01/upgrade-to-gvfs-with-mtp-support-in.html But neither worked. I tried to connect both my phone (Nexus 4) and my dad's phone (Galaxy Note 2), and neither is being detected by Ubuntu. They don't show up on my files and on gMTP. Is there another fix? or something more specific for Android 4.3 and Ubuntu 14.04

  • Will modem manager be updated in 12.04 LTS to release 0.6.0 or above by Canonical?

    It is still stuck at release 0.5.2 since early last year, while release 0.6.0 does not seem to be progressed to a stable release for 12.04 LTS. Any plans for the update to occur before the end of the year? In a related but separate question, I note that the latest Modem Manager GUI (0.0.16) has now been released for Saucy Salamander in its Software Center, but still with the older 0.0.13 version for Precise's Software Center - why does it not follow suit? Perhaps Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre or Graham Inggs can offer some help with answers if no one else can? Thanks in advance!

  • Ubuntu 10.10 screen goes nuts and unreadable

    Running Ubuntu 10.10 in its own partition, also have Oracle Virtualbox 4 with Windows XP. Because i previously had a problem with a dark screen when i let the laptop on and i didn't use it for a long while i had set Power settings to Never sleep, never let the Display sleep. Monitor on install set to Laptop resolution 1400 by 1050, refresh rate 60 Hz, rotation Normal. The problem was when the computer was left on and i returned after about an hour, the screen was unreadable, similar to what used to happen to graphics cards before multisync became normal. So it appears as though the graphics card was asked to use a resolution it couldn't handle and went nuts. I had to power off the system, on restart everything was fine. Thanks for any suggestions.     After repeatedly losing data on encrypted drives due to some trivial combination of software and hardware failure, I would like to know if there is a simple tool that keeps local folders synchronized. Like a local "cloud" service that runs on one computer and synchronizes any changes in one folder to the other folder as soon as both folders are available. That way I can keep a copy of the most important files on a different hard-drive.

  • Does Ubuntu One offer Windows Live Sync type services?

    I'm an Ubuntu convert from Windows and I'm liking it very much. One of the few things I miss in Windows is their Live Sync. I don't know what it's like now or whether it still exists, but at the time (2008/2009), Windows Live Sync lets you sync folders between computers without uploading contents on their server. That is, only the metadata of the subscribed folders are uploaded (things like changelog etc.). I really liked that, and I was wondering if Ubuntu One has an option that does the same thing? At the moment it only seems to have the option to upload all file contents on the web, and I'd rather not do that. If Ubuntu One doesn't have the service similar to Windows Live Sync as described above, then I really recommend it. I would greatly appreciate it if someone can point me to the right place to make my recommendations. Thanks in advance!

  • How do I remove Skype 4.3 from Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (32-bit)

    I installed Skype on my nephew's new Ubuntu 14.04 LTS machine, and now we've decided to remove it. But I'm not able to locate it in my Installed programs section of Ubuntu Software Center. I'm able to call it up by opening the debian package, Software Center opens it up, but where I would normally see the "Remove" button, I have a "Reinstall" button. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to uninstall Skype. Any suggestions? In case you're wondering I used the version of Skype designed for 12.xx, as there was no option available for Ubuntu 14.xx.

    We have set up a new SharePoint 2007 site with a Records Repository. We're using Exchange 2007 Managed Folders to route e-mails to this repository based on the 'label' attached to the e-mail as set in the Exchange 2007 journaling options. E-mails added to a Managed Folder get sent to SharePoint, they end up in the "Submitted E-mail Records" list of the Records Repository. That's according to plan, but the e-mails are not routed to the respective document library as defined by the label. Instead an error appears in the event viewer for every e-mail listed in the Submitted E-mail Records list, on every interval of the records repository schedule (set to every two minutes for testing purposes): Value cannot be null, parameter name: g. Sending a document from the SharePoint site iself to the Records Repository via the Send To... link works fine, but e-mails get stuck in the list... We have set Document Libraries in the Respository with and without content types (with matching names with the Label and the Record Routing rule set). Any ideas what could be wrong?   • Word 2010, Multiple Columns, Vertical center one column only

    I am creating a document with two columns in Microsoft Word 2010. I want the first column to be centered vertically. I want the second column to be on the same page and the vertical placement to be from the top. I highlight my text in the first column that I want centered vertically, then go to Page Layout Margins Custom Margins Layout, you can choose to center the vertical alignment. I have choosen the "Section Start" to be "Column" and also tried "Continuous." In all cases it always shifts all of my second column information to a new page. I don't want my second column text to be on a new page, I want it to be on the same page and vertically aligned from the top--not the center. Am I understanding the functionality of the Section Start on the Layout tab correctly? Maybe the page layout isn't the correct formatting to use. What I am really doing is formatting columns. I haven't found anywhere to format the columns for this. Am I missing some important column formatting features? I know that I can use the paragraph formatting and add space above the first line of text to make it look like it is centered vertically. However, this is a template for a master document and will be changed frequently. I really would like the first column text to be automatically formatted to be centered vertically without having to go in and manually change the space above the paragraph every time. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • Problem getting puppet to sync custom fact

    I am having trouble getting puppet to sync a custom fact. I am using puppet version 0.25.4. The fact is inside a module as described in http://docs.reductivelabs.com/guides/plugins_in_modules.html If I specify --pluginsync on the command line it does sync correctly, but does not otherwise even though I have pluginsync=true in my puppet.conf. Is it correct that this command line option and the option in the puppet.conf should have the same behavior?

  • Remotely sync Time Machine drives

    I have an Xserve that runs Time Machine to a local terabyte drive. I also connected my external terabyte drive for a time period and had Time Machine use it to establish the seed data. I plan to take my drive back home with me (out of state) and have the Xserve return to using its local drive for Time Machine. But when I get back home, is there a way to keep my external drive's copy of the Time Machine Backups folder in sync with the Backups folder back on the Xserve? I'm wanting a full copy of the history (makes an awesome remote backup). I've thought of using the unix command rsync. In fact, that's how I had been doing it but I was looking the compactness that Time Machine was able to achieve. Thanks.

  • Apple Mail clones Gmail account folders and gets out of sync when tracking unread emails

    The Gmail (fc.mm.mp.lh is Gmail also) accounts that I've set up with Mail, automatically created a second folder for each of the accounts, the ones you can see in ALL CAPS at the bottom. I guess this folders represent the web mail accounts, while the folders inside Inbox represent the pop accounts, despite them being the same account. The thing is, as you can see, while the inbox accounts have no unread mails, their "all caps" counterparts show as if they had some unread mails. This is not the normal behavior; when I mark an email as read, it is "read" in both versions of the account, but from time to time, they kind of get "out of sync" and the bottom folders start to show unread emails that were actually read. Have you seen this behavior before? What can I do? I don't use the bottom "folders" but I can't get rid of them anyway. It's just that their unread messages notification annoys me because there aren't actually any unread mails.

    Is there a simple way to organize contacts in Outlook/Entourage and only have a subset of them synchronize with the iPhone over Exchange ActiveSync? Our CEO has thousands of contacts in his mailbox, but would prefer if only a small portion of them synched to his phone over the air... The iPhone's performance takes a huge hit keeping that massive dataset in order. If he could put some of the records in subfolders or something and only sync the top level, I think that would work for him. Does anyone know if this is possible?

    I have 2 hosts (A and B). B contains a MySQL server with a database called mydb, and A contains a MySQL server with nothing (fresh install). I want to replicate the entire mydb from B to A, by running a script on A (I do not have shell access to B). Can I run this on A: pt-table-sync --execute h=b.mydomain.com,D=mydb h=a.mydomain.com I've read the docs but don't get a 100% comfort feeling (perhaps because of all the warnings about damaging your data if you don't know what you're doing). Will this work? as well, is h=a.mydomin.com necessary? (Will it route all traffic back in/out the local NIC?) can I use localhost or nothing at all?

  • Password Manager that can sync a Blackberry and Mac OS X.

    I use a Blackberry Bold and a Macbook Pro. I am looking for a solution to have a synchronized password manager between the two devices. All the commercial ones I have discovered won't work between a Blackberry and a Mac. The almost solution was KeePass. I like the application on the Blackberry but I could not get the sync working reliably to the Mac. As well, I had to run the PC application by using Mono on the Mac and it was pretty slow. I am happy to pay for a good solution.

    I use Google Chrome. I love the snappy and fast feeling. I thought I will miss the add ons of Firefox. But, not really. However, I used to use delicious actively and want to continue to do the same. I miss syncing my bookmarks with delicious. What is the simplest way to sync Chrome bookmarks with delicious? Addition: I see and understand that there are no good "add-ons" per se. I don't mind even a simple cron that I can schedule every day. May be I just have to write one, after all.
