• Most suitable collection for multithreading requests?

- by Raj Aththanayake
I have ~10,000 records would like to keep in a collection in memory and execute LINQ queries against it. This collection should be available for all the users in the application domain and can access concurrently. I’m looking for a .NET collection that supports multithreading can query asynchronously and efficiently without any threading issues. Any suggestions on deciding a collection for this?

• What causes this error..please run "exec sp_register_custom_scripting 'CUSTOM_SCRIPT', your_script???

- by larryr
Configuration SQL 2005 (Server A) replicates to SQL 2008(Server B) which replicates to SQL 2008(Server C). I recently added a column (to Server A) to a replicated table via script & the DDL change replicated to Server B with out a problem. When the DDL change replicated to Server C, I received the error below. 'DDL replication failed to refresh custom procedures, please run "exec sp_register_custom_scripting 'CUSTOM_SCRIPT', your_script, 'EDI from xx', 'table_name_here' "and try again (Source: MSSQLServer, Error number: 21814)' These subscriptions (on Server B to Server C) were created via a script below. **exec sp_addsubscription @publication = N'EDI to XLOCX', @subscriber = N'RXLOCXS-SQLA', @destination_db = N'EDI', @subscription_type = N'Push', @sync_type = N'replication support only', @article = N'all', @update_mode = N'read only', @subscriber_type = 0 exec sp_addpushsubscription_agent @publication = N'EDI to XLOCX (Merge)', @subscriber = N'RXLOCXS-SQLA', @subscriber_db = N'EDI', @job_login = N'ROUSES.COM\RXLOCXSQLREPL', @job_password = N'XPASSWORDX', @subscriber_security_mode = 1, @frequency_type = 4, @frequency_interval = 1, @frequency_relative_interval = 1, @frequency_recurrence_factor = 1, @frequency_subday = 8, @frequency_subday_interval = 1, @active_start_time_of_day =3300, @active_end_time_of_day = 235959, @active_start_date = 20070923, @active_end_date = 99991231, @enabled_for_syncmgr = N'False', @dts_package_location = N'Distributor'** GO So the million dollar question is, why do I get the error 'exec sp_register_custom_scripting 'CUSTOM_SCRIPT', your_script' when I add a column to a table in the EDI to XLOCX publication??? • Stopping long-running requests in Pylons

- by Jack
I'm working on an application using Pylons and I was wondering if there was a way to make sure it doesn't spend way too much time handling one request. That is, I would like to find a way to put a timer on each request such that when too much time elapses, the request just stops (and possibly returns some kind of error). The application is supposed to allow users to run some complex calculations but I would like to make sure that if a calculation starts taking too much time, we stop it to allow other calculations to take place.

• jQuery/Ajax IE7 - Long requests fail

- by iQ
Hi guys, I have a problem with IE7 regarding an ajax call that is made by jQuery.load function. Basically the request works in cases where the URL string is not too long, but as soon as the URL gets very large it fails. Doing some debugging on the Ajax call I found this error: URL: <blanked out security reasons but it's very long> Content Type: Headers size (bytes): 0 Data size (bytes): 0 Total size (bytes): 0 Transferred data size (bytes): 0 Cached data: No Error result: 0x800c0005 Error constant: INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND Error description: The server or proxy was not found Extended error result: 0x7a Extended error description: The data area passed to a system call is too small. As you can see, it looks like nothing is being sent. Now this only happens on IE7 but not other browsers, with IE8 there is a small delay but still works. The same request works fine when the URL string is relatively small. Now I need this working on IE7 for compatibility reasons and I cannot find workarounds for this so any help is greatly appreciated. The actual ajax call is like this: $("ID").load("url?lotsofparams",callbac func(){}); "lotsofparams" can vary, sometimes being small or very large. It's when the string is very large that I get the above error for IE7 only.

• How do I keep my app from tracking bot requests as views

- by trustfundbaby
This is a general question about writing web apps. I have an application that counts page views of articles as well as a url shortner script that I've installed for a client of mine. The problem is that, whenever bots hit the site, they tend to inflate the page views. Does anyone have an idea on how to go about eliminating bot views from the view count of these applications?

• mod_rewrite with GET requests

- by iMaster
I have mod_rewrite working on most of my site. Right now I have a search that normally would point to search.php?keyword=KEYWORD And I'm trying to rewrite that to search/?keyword=KEYWORD Just to make it a little bit cleaner. So here's my mod_rewrite. (There are other rules I'm just posting the one that isn't working.) RewriteRule ^search/?keyword=([^/\.]+)/?$ search.php?search=$1 When I type a search in the address bar way I want it to be, I get a page telling me its a "broken link" (I'm guessing that that's Chrome's equivalent of a 404 error). So what am I doing wrong? I think that the problem is the '=' or the '?' sign in the rule (the first part) because when I take the ?keyword= part out, it works. Does that make sense?

• Mapping restful ajax requests to spring

- by Diones
I have this piece of code: @RequestMapping(value = "/test.json", method = RequestMethod.GET) @ResponseStatus(HttpStatus.OK) public @ResponseBody Object[] generateFile(@RequestParam String tipo) { Object[] variaveis = Variavel.getListVariavelByTipo(tipo); return variaveis; } As far as I know it should take a request to test.json?tipo=H and return the JSON representation of Variavel[], however when I make such request I get: HTTP Status 406 - type Status report message descriptionThe resource identified by this request is only capable of generating responses with characteristics not acceptable according to the request "accept" headers () By using the following function I can get the expected json: @RequestMapping(value = "/teste.json") public void testeJson(Model model, @RequestParam String tipo) { model.addAttribute("data", Variavel.getListVariavelByTipo("H")); } What I'm doing wrong?

• Ordering of reflection requests in dotnet

- by happyclicker
When I call GetProperties() on a type, the properties are ordered as they are written in the source code. This is very handy but my question is, if this is a guaranteed behavior or may this change depending on the runtime version and the environment. Does anyone know something about that?

• Multithreaded ActiveRecord requests in rspec

- by jeem
I'm trying to recreate a race condition in a test, so I can try out some solutions. I find that in the threads I create in my test, ActiveRecord always returns 0 for counts and nil for finds. For example, with 3 rows in the table "foos": it "whatever" do puts Foo.count 5.times do Thread.new do puts Foo.count end end end will print 3 0 0 0 0 0 test.log shows the expected query, the expected 6 times: SELECT count(*) AS count_all FROM `active_agents` Any idea what's going on here?

• [Java] Listening for TCP and UDP requests on the same port

- by user339328
I am writing a Client/Server set of programs Depending on the operation requested by the client, I use make TCP or UDP request. Implementing the client side is straight-forward, since I can easily open connection with any protocol and send the request to the server-side. On the servers-side, on the other hand, I would like to listen both for UDP and TCP connections on the same port. Moreover, I like the the server to open new thread for each connection request. I have adopted the approach explained in: link text I have extended this code sample by creating new threads for each TCP/UDP request. This works correctly if I use TCP only, but it fails when I attempt to make UDP bindings. Please give me any suggestion how can I correct this. tnx

• Change cookies when doing jQuery.ajax requests in Chrome Extensions

- by haskellguy
I have wrote a plugin for facebook that sends data to testing-fb.local. The request goes through if the user is logged in. Here is the workflow: User logs in from testing-fb.local Cookies are stored When $.ajax() are fired from the Chrome extension Chrome extension listen with chrome.webRequest.onBeforeSendHeaders Chrome extension checks for cookies from chrome.cookies.get Chrome changes the Set-Cookies header to be sent And the request goes through. I wrote this part of code that shoud be this: function getCookies (callback) { chrome.cookies.get({url:"https://testing-fb.local", name: "connect.sid"}, function(a){ return callback(a) }) } chrome.webRequest.onBeforeSendHeaders.addListener( function(details) { getCookies(function(a){ // Here something happens }) }, {urls: ["https://testing-fb.local/*"]}, ['blocking']); Here is my manifest.json: { "name": "test-fb", "version": "1.0", "manifest_version": 1, "description": "testing", "permissions": [ "cookies", "webRequest", "tabs", "http://*/*", "https://*/*" ], "background": { "scripts": ["background.js"] }, "content_scripts": [ { "matches": ["http://*.facebook.com/*", "https://*.facebook.com/*"], "exclude_matches" : [ "*://*.facebook.com/ajax/*", "*://*.channel.facebook.tld/*", "*://*.facebook.tld/pagelet/generic.php/pagelet/home/morestories.php*", "*://*.facebook.tld/ai.php*" ], "js": ["jquery-1.8.3.min.js", "allthefunctions.js"] } ] } In allthefunction.js I have the $.ajax calls, and in background.js is where I put the code above which however looks not to run.. In summary, I have not clear: What I should write in Here something happens If this strategy is going to work Where should I put this code?

• Finding all the URL requests from a firefox extension

- by user303052
I am building a firefox extension. In this extension, I want to see the URLs of any new webpage that the user visits. The webpage can be in a different tab or window than the current tab that the user is viewing (this should also catch the URL of pop-ups). Is there a way to find when firefox makes a GET or POST request and grab the URL? An alternative that I am trying to avoid is going through all the tabs and manually check to see if they have loaded a new page. Thanks

• Php exec() return code is -1 when in a forked process, but 0 in a normal script

- by fb1
I am using exec() inside a a script that runs as a daemon and forks child processes using the pear class Net_Server. I am getting a strange issue whereby the return code (the third param of of exec) comes back as -1. When I run the command on the command line, or with exec in a normal php script the return code is 0 as it should be. Anyone have any idea why this is happening, and how to fix it?

• How do you re-mount an ext3 fs readwrite after it gets mounted readonly from a disk error?

- by cagenut
Its a relatively common problem when something goes wrong in a SAN for ext3 to detect the disk write errors and remount the filesystem read-only. Thats all well and good, only when the SAN is fixed I can't figure out how to re-re-mount the filesystem read-write without rebooting. • Advantages/disadvantages of Glassfish v3 Prelude vs Springsource dm server for Web applications?

- by cletus
Both of these appservers are at least in part OSGI based. One (Glassfish) is obviously J2EE while the other isn't. Now I'm at the stage of choosing a platform for a new project and the natural choice is Glassfish v3 Prelude. This does raise the issue of perhaps we should be using S2AP instead. The question then is this: does the springsource dm server offer any compelling reason to use it over Glassfish? And vice versa.

• Time to stop using “Execute Package Task”– a way to execute package in SSIS catalog taking advantage of the new project deployment model ,and the logging and reporting feature

- by Kevin Shyr
I set out to find a way to dynamically call package in SSIS 2012. The following are 2 excellent blogs I found; I used them heavily. The code below has some addition to parameter types and message types, but was made essentially derived entirely from the blogs. http://sqlblog.com/blogs/jamie_thomson/archive/2011/07/16/ssis-logging-in-denali.aspx http://www.ssistalk.com/2012/07/24/quick-tip-run-ssis-2012-packages-synchronously-and-other-execution-options/ The code: Every package will be called by a PackageController package. The packageController is initialized with some information on which package to run and what information to pass in. The following is the stored procedure called from the “Execute SQL Task”. Here is the highlight of the stored procedure It takes in packageName, project name, and folder name (folder in SSIS project deployment to SSIS catalog) The stored procedure sets the package variables of the upcoming package execution Execute package in SSIS Catalog Get the status of the execution. Also, if exists, get the error message’s message_id and store them in the management database. Return value to “Execute SQL Task” to manage failure properly CREATE PROCEDURE [AUDIT].[LaunchPackageExecutionInSSISCatalog] @PackageName NVARCHAR(255) , @ProjectFolder NVARCHAR(255) , @ProjectName NVARCHAR(255) , @AuditKey INT , @DisableNotification BIT , @PackageExecutionLogID INT AS BEGIN TRY DECLARE @execution_id BIGINT = 0; • Validate signature on EXE with CertGetCertificateChain

- by cobaia
I would like to verify a signed executable. The requirement is to validate that the executable itself is valid and where it came from (probably from the subject of the cert). The cert type is PKCS. I found a similar posting here, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/301024/validate-authenticode-signature-on-exe-c-without-capicom The Microsoft documentation, among others, appears to point to CertGetCertificateChain, but the examples tend to work with certificates that are in a store. Does anyone know how to validate a signed executable using CertGetCertificateChain and related API's?

• shell_exec() in PHP

- by Amar Ravikumar
<?php // Execute a shell script $dump = shell_exec('bigfile.sh'); // This script takes some 10s to complete execution print_r($dump); // Dump log to screen ?> When the script above is executed from the browser, it loads for 10s and the dumps the output of the script to the screen. This is, of course, normal. But if I want the data written to STDOUT by the shell script to be displayed on the screen in real-time, is there some way I could do it?

• GUI designers! - got suggestions for a GUI modelling diagram language?

- by naugtur
Refering to this question I asked a while ago: UI functionality modeling languages It looks like there is no good-enough solution. I decided to develop one. (and prepare a set of elements for DIA or something) I'm sure it will require a good insight in peoples' experiences and problems in designing functionally complicated GUIs. I've got some ideas already, but I'd like to hear from You what You'd expect from a GUI functionality modelling language. Clarification: It's functionality modelling, so it's not about where I put a button. It's about objects that have some events binded, and the interface behaviour logic. If You think (just as I do) that UML is far from useful for such purposes - feel free to put Your expectations here. I'll try to meet them. ( not necessarily in person;) ) Remember - there is no such thing as a wrong answer to this question

• Faster forking of large processes on Linux ?

- by timday
What's the fastest, best way on modern Linux of achieving the same effect as a fork-execve combo from a large process ? My problem is that the process forking is ~500MByte big, and a simple benchmarking test achieves only about 50 forks/s from the process (c.f ~1600 forks/s from a minimally sized process) which is too slow for the intended application. Some googling turns up vfork as having being invented as the solution to this problem... but also warnings about not to use it. Modern Linux seems to have acquired related clone and posix_spawn calls; are these likely to help ? What's the modern replacement for vfork ? I'm using 64bit Debian Lenny on an i7 (the project could move to Squeeze if posix_spawn would help).
