  • Combine file transfer dialogs

    I am considering upgrading my work computer to use windows 8 as the new file transferring feature seems very useful. Unfortunately after installing windows 8 on my home pc to test it out, the files are being transferred in separate dialogs as opposed to this image provided by microsoft. As I am transferring files constantly a single transfer dialog would make things much less confusing. Does anyone know what settings to change to make file transfers appear in the same window?

  • How is this word document encoded?

    Hi all, We have a program that was written for us by a developer that we can no longer contact, the program opens word documents (forms) that we use in our company, you can tell they are Word documents as the 'Word' toolbar displays with this custom program and we can see the .doc files on the hard drive, the Save button is disabled in the program and when we open the .doc files in word the encoding is not standard as the forms are unreadable but look perfect in the custom program. If we can word out how he has done this we can hopefully convert the 100's of forms that we use. One of the .doc files can be download below, I've scanned it for viruses, it's clean.   • How can I re-encode H.264 video with minimal quality loss?

    I have a lot of MPEG-TS files (.TS container but H.264 video) and playback is fine except that when you skip forward/backward or fast forward it's very sluggish and gets pixelated, etc. I've been trying to do research and I'm guessing that they were encoding with very few reference blocks (ie. it's a capture from a DVB-S satellite stream). When I re-encode them with Handbrake (.MP4 container) they play very, very good and seeking in the video is instant, etc, etc. Is it possible to transcode/re-encode my MPEG-TS files with minimal quality loss? If so, what is my best bet? They are each about 2 Mbps (ie. 2 GB per hour) but I don't want to re-encode them if "minimal quality loss" requires 10+ GB per file. I'm hoping to keep the video are the same size. Can anybody give me any advice?

    I Have text which looks like this: supposed to undergo yearly cardiac exam in order to stay on transplant list. But, there are patients who are missing important cardiac information. It is yo ur job as an intern on call to make sure that you fin As you can see, the first line is fine, but then the second line is corrupt. It looks like this even when I open it using Vim or LibreOffice. Is there a way to fix this? I've tried changing the encoding to UTF-8 but to no avail. Thanks!

  • Custom Filter in cPanel to Auto-Delete Emails with Russian Characters

    I get a lot of spam to my email account from Russia. The emails themselves (name, subject, body) are in Russian and I was hoping to create a custom filter in cPanel (not in SpamAssassin but in cPanel itself) to catch these emails and delete them before they hit my inbox. I've tried setting up rules to flag emails with these characters but they still are getting through. This leads me to believe that there is an encoding issue at play here. Unfortunately I do not know how to overcome this. Ideas?

  • Building a DVR system for use with custom windows application (video analytics)

    Is there a good PCIe DVR capture card that has at least 4 channels as well as the hardware encoding? It would have to have decent driver support in Windows xp or windows 7. I have looked at various video capture cards as well as an integrated video capture card/motherboard from Huperlabs. But so far I have not found one with a decent review and that has good driver support that I can verify. A really small card would be nice because I am trying to get a fairly small form factor. Huperlabs stuff is pretty awesome but they are slow to get back to me and they bundle their analytics software with the hardware (extra cost for nothing) The dvr is being used for security.

  • Best way to upscale a video?

    If I have a video file at 320x240 resolution which I want to re-encode (because I don't like the encoding it's in now) and I also want to play it at double size (640x480), will I get higher quality if I scale it up to 640x480 when I convert it to a new format, verses keeping it at 320x240 in the new format and playing it at double size? This probably depends on the program used to convert, and if so, please let me know any program which might increase the quality. Here's my thinking. If I play a 320x240 file at double size, the system has to scale up each frame in real time, whereas if I scale up while recompressing the system may be able to use a more intensive algorythm like Bicubic interpolation . However I am not sure if this is true or not.

  • Apache on Win32: Slow Transfers of single, static files in HTTP, fast in HTTPS

    I have a weird problem with Apache 2.2.15 on Windows 2000 Server SP4. Basically, I am trying to serve larger static files, images, videos etc. The download seems to be capped at around 550kB/s even over 100Mbit LAN. I tried other protocols (FTP/FTPS/FTP+ES/SCP/SMB), and they are all in the multi-megabyte range. The strangest thing is that, when using Apache with HTTPS instead of HTTP, it serves very fast, around 2.7MByte/s! I also tried the AnalogX SimpleWWW server just to test the plain HTTP speed of it, and it gave me a healthy 3.3Mbyte/s. I am at a total loss here. I searched the web, and tried to change the following Apache configuration directives in httpd.conf, one at a time, mostly to no avail at all: SendBufferSize 1048576 #(tried multiples of that too, up to 100Mbytes) EnableSendfile Off #(minor performance boost) EnableMMAP Off Win32DisableAcceptEx HostnameLookups Off #(default) I also tried to tune the following registry parameters, setting their values to 4194304 in decimal (they are REG_DWORD), and rebooting afterwards: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\AFD\Parameters\DefaultReceiveWindow HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\AFD\Parameters\DefaultSendWindow Additionally, I tried to install mod_bw, which sets the event timer precision to 1ms, and allows for bandwidth throttling. According to some people it boosts static file serving performance when set to unlimited bandwidth for everybody. Unfortunately, it did nothing for me. So: AnalogX HTTP: 3300kB/s Gene6 FTPD, plain: 3500kB/s Gene6 FTPD, Implicit and Explicit SSL, AES256 Cipher: 1800-2000kB/s freeSSHD: 1100kB/s SMB shared folder: about 3000kB/s Apache HTTP, plain: 550kB/s Apache HTTPS: 2700kB/s Clients that were used in the bandwidth testing: Internet Explorer 8 (HTTP, HTTPS) Firefox 8 (HTTP, HTTPS) Chrome 13 (HTTP, HTTPS) Opera 11.60 (HTTP, HTTPS) wget under CygWin (HTTP, HTTPS) FileZilla (FTP, FTPS, FTP+ES, SFTP) Windows Explorer (SMB) Generally, transfer speeds are not too high, but that's because the server machine is an old quad Pentium Pro 200MHz machine with 2GB RAM. However, I would like Apache to serve at at least 2Mbyte/s instead of 550kB/s, and that already works with HTTPS easily, so I fail to see why plain HTTP is so crippled. I am using a Kerio Winroute Firewall, but no Throttling and no special filters peeking into HTTP traffic, just the plain Firewall functionality for blocking/allowing connections. The Apache error.log (Loglevel info) shows no warnings, no errors. Also nothing strange to be seen in access.log. I have already stripped down my httpd.conf to the bare minimum just to make sure nothing is interfering, but that didn't help either. If you have any idea, help would be greatly appreciated, since I am totally out of ideas! Thanks! Edit: I have now tried a newer Apache 2.2.21 to see if it makes any difference. However, the behaviour is exactly the same. Edit 2: KM01 has requested a sniff on the HTTP headers, so here comes the LiveHTTPHeaders output (an extension to Firefox). The Output is generated on downloading a single file called "elephantsdream_source.264", which is an H.264/AVC elementary video stream under an Open Source license. I have taken the freedom to edit the URL, removing folders and changing the actual servers domain name to www.mydomain.com.   • Convert video files for Maemo (Nokia N900) using ffmpeg/mencoder

    I'm a newbie in video encoding so I'm looking for some expert advice. I'm looking to transcode media files with ffmpeg or mencoder (or something other) on Ubuntu for my Nokia N900 running Maemo. I'd prefer mencoder, because of ffmpeg's crazy dependencies. Video output should be AVC/H.264 (probably hardware accelerated on device). Audio output in AAC (should have preferred Vorbis but not supported natively and requires .mkv which is also not completely supported). Output video should retain the original aspect ratio. Resolution of screen is 800x480 (16:10). (Explanation of why-this-value-is-chosen would be really appreciated). Thanks.

    Description I have a big (7.4G) .mkv file (1080p) which I want to convert to H.264 (using x264) Problem MediaCoder and GSpot are unable to detect the codec. They don't display anything. Just that the file is a matroska Container Video with a MIMEtype of video/x-matroska. No bitrate, profile etc. But the source tells me that is VC-1 encoded. Question So how do I encode this file. as in, using what encoding software, since MediaCoder has failed.

    Is there any free (as in beer, and if it's possible as in bird) tool to convert a dvd in the format DVC-PRO HD 1080 to a normal/standard dvd format so that I can play it on a normal DVD player? EDIT: I changed the wording a bit. We've a video in DVC-PRO HD 1080 but as far as I know it is a proprietary format. We'd like to create a standard dvd out of it. I'm not really in video encoding and dvd conversion. I thought I need to be more precise. VLC currently doesn't support DVC-PRO HD 1080.

  • Can GNU sed (for Windows) handle Unicode? If so, is it a code-page/locale issue, or a switch?

    I've been using GNU SED on and off for a couple of years now. It spins me out a bit sometimes, but it does a good job... for single-byte char sets! I now and then notice references to GNU SED being Unicode-aware, but the closest I've seen of this is its "binary" mode.. and binary is not Unicode. Can GSED process a Unicode text file at CodePoint resolution, including and especially \r\n (Windows)... and if it can, does it expect UTF-8, UTF-16, or what? and how does SED detect the encoding?

  • Getting rsync to move file from source to destination ?

    Is rsync is a good choice for my project ? I have to : - copy files from source to destination folder via SSH, - be sure all files are copied, - delete source files after copy. - if I have conflict name, I have to rename files. It looks like I can use option : --remove-source-files (to delete source files) But how rsync manage conflict, can I had rules ? Use case on my project : I run scientific calculation on server A and results are inserted in folder "process", for each calculation I have a repository like this : /process/calc1. Now I would like to transfer repository "/calc1" to server B (I get /process/calc1), and delete "calc1" from server A. ...During another calculation I get "/process/calc2" on server A, the idea is also to move "calc2" in "/process/" directory on server B, then I have now on server B : - /process/calc1 - /process/calc2 (and /process/ on server A is empty). How rsync will manage conflict (on server B) if I have another folder like "/process/calc1" in server A after a new calculation (if "/process/calc1" already exist on server B) ? Is it possible to add rules with rsync, and rename "/process/calc1" by "process/calc1R2" in server B ? And so on (ex:calc1R3) ? Thanks.

  • Add files/folders/Apps to a new User Account

    I have created a new user acct. for my roommate. I/we don't really care much for IE, and I'd like to add Google Chrome, and FF for her, to let her choose her own browser. Plus I'd like to add some other apps for her, and transfer some of her personal info that she's been storing on my administrative acct. (i.e. personal photos and such). So, like I said the account is set up. But when I go to use Chrome, it won't open. It, along with other apps are listed in the list of "approved" applications under the parental control list. (Application Restrictions List) But they either don't show up when searched for,( in her acct.) or won't open and operate. One other example is Faststone Capture. And then, I've got one application, Yahoo, "Unchecked", and yet there it is in her account, AND IT WORKS! I do not get it. The purpose to setting up an account for her was to only restrict that she couldn't delete, or uninstall anything on the computer. I don't care, (obviously within reason) what she installs, but NO TAKING AWAY! lol Here is a screen shot of the restrictions list: So, here I sit, wondering what I did wrong, or forgot to do in order for these to work. I don't care if Yahoo works or not. But her photos being transferred, Chrome/FF working, and Faststone Capture working, are a priority for me. If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate any advice. Thanks! OH Edit: Also, my account is an Administrative one. The account I am creating for her is just a Standard User Acct.

  • Using psftp to upload and download files

    Hello I am trying to upload and download files from my desktop to my server. Now after some search I did download psftp. I used to use filezilla earlier, but I cannot install it on my desktop due to a few reasons. Since psftp (similar to putty) is just an executable for file transfer. So now after going through this link http://www.math.tamu.edu/~mpilant/math696/psftp.html. I understood that put and get are two commands I would use to download and upload files. Now when I logon to the server and say get filename, it actually is throwing back an error "local: unable to open filename". I tried that with other files too, and I end up getting the same error. The psftp.exe file is on my desktop. The process that I am using is I double click the .exe file open "servrname" cd /path/where/files/are get "filename" And I get this error "local: unable to open filename". Am I making a mistake or is it a problem with this executable?

  • Transferring domain from one registrar to another

    I have a domain from my old web host, which was free with my hosting account. After a few years, I am moving to a VPS. Most of my other domains were registered with Namecheap, so it was just a matter of changing a few DNS records. However, given that my old host does not provide me with a DNS control panel, and I don't want to be paying a full hosting bill for just domains, I'm now looking into transferring it. My old host says there will be a charge of $15 to them. NameCheap's page seems to imply you don't need the current registrar to do anything, but it also seems to be based on sending an email to the one listed in whois. Of course, my old host have whoisguard on the domain so the only email on it is [email protected] (and not a unique [email protected], just [email protected]) which doesn't go to me. Again, there doesn't seem to be an option to disable this. So, is it a case of paying my old host's fee, and paying again for the domain from NameCheap, or is there some other way to transfer my domain? (I'm not really sure which of the trilogy sites this is best for.)
