  • Visual Studio 2008 macro only works from the Macro IDE, not the Macro Explorer

    Edit: Creating a new module in the same VSMacros project fixed the problem. The following macro only works if I open the Macro IDE from Visual Studio and run the macro from there. It'd be much more useful if I could just right click the macro from the Macro Explorer from my Visual Studio instance. I must be doing something obviously wrong, but I've never worked with VS macros before. The MessageBox does not appear in either case.     I'm creating a .ASPNET project and I would like to setup nHibernate as my ORM tool. I will be using an existing oracle database and Visual Studio 2010. ORM tools are very new to me and really could use any advice to better understand the tool and the process required to implement them. I've been following an article at http://nhforge.org/wikis/howtonh/your-first-nhibernate-based-application.aspx to learn about it and am stuck where they say to create a local database as mine only give me the option to create a SQL server database (perhaps this a new for visual studio 2010?). Is the purpose of this database just to cache results from the live database? Thanks for your help! Geoff

    Using the new Visual Studio 2010 SDK developing against the MEF based editor structure there's a question: How can I use the MEF editor interfaces to handle snippet behavior in IntelliSense? The ICompletionSession itself is not a problem (e.g. get the available snippets) rather filling the snippet, handling the subsequently expected actions like tab, enter behavior, text replacement, etc. Is there any way to do that without a language service? Checking the built-in behavior in Visual Studio base editor implementation they built the MEF interfaces on top of a set of language service based objects.

    Hello all: I'm an intermediate Linux user and a relative beginner to servers. I would like some help finding resources on setting up a basic server. I have Googled, and am a member of the Ubuntu Forums, but just figure it can't hurt to ask the Stack Overflow community for help as well. I plan on installing on an old laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad R61i or Toshiba Satellite A105). I have downloaded the latest Ubuntu (9.10) but don't know how to do any of the configurations. I just want a server to store my files where I can access (download and/ or stream) from a browser. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Thomas

    What is the significance of the ProjectTypeGuids tag in a visual studio project?? When I created a WPF application, i am seeing two guids in here. {60dc8134-eba5-43b8-bcc9-bb4bc16c2548};{FAE04EC0-301F-11D3-BF4B-00C04F79EFBC} Does these represent WPF and Windows type of applications? If I create my own project type (.myproj) that has .xaml and .cs files, what should I fill in this ProjectTypeGuids tags? Should I also need to fill the ProjectType tag? It would also be better if someone differentiate the ProjectType and ProjectTypeGuids tags. P.S. I am using Visual Studio 2010 RC currently Thanks

However, I'm in a bit of a bind because I need the app to be able to operate on older OS's, namely: Windows 2000 Windows XP RTM Windows XP SP1 Visual Studio 2010's runtime library depends on the EncodePointer / DecodePointer API which was introduced in Windows XP SP2. If using the alternate runtime library is possible, will this break code that relies on C++0x features added in VS2010, like std::regex?

    I followed the steps on this tutorial video by at subsonic website. Everything seems to be self explanatory but when I copy the .tt files into my Visual Studio nothing happens. I have read other question relating to this problem on this website but they don't seem to fix this problem. I also went into the regedit to find out the generator key for .tt files and it is properly set. This is not a visual studio express or anything but a professional edition also I am trying to build a ASP.net web application and not a MVC application like the demo.     Here's my situation: New to Ubuntu (just installed 9.10 Karmic Koala 64 bit) Purpose: to easily run PyCharm without too much typing (ie. cd... ./pycharm.sh) Want to create desktop Launcher instead of terminal & typing (without resorting to the "Run in Terminal" option) Tried to create Launcher to executes .sh script in Document directory Right-clicked Desktop Create Launcher a. Type == Application; Browse [insert absolute path to .sh script]; no luck b. Type == Application in Terminal; Browse ...ditto I'm open to any other alternatives that involve as little typing as possible. I would like to just start Ubuntu, click Launcher icons, and have terminals spring to life, running the intended scripts. Crazy? No. Lazy? Probably. Productive? Hopefully :)

  • How to get HTTP preseed to work correctly on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid)?

    Installation media: ubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386.iso I tried a lot of different boot parameters, but either the installer ignored the preseed configuration, or it boot itself directly as LiveCD. An example of the boot parameters I've tried: auto url=http://mydomain.com/path/preseed.cfg boot=casper only-ubiquity initrd=/casper/initrd.lz quiet splash -- If I remove only-ubiquity, it boots as a LiveCD. If I remove boot=casper, it won't boot. If I add vga=normal locale=en_US console-setup/layoutcode=us console-setup/ask_detect=false interface=auto, it still can't do automatic install. If I remove auto, it's the same. What is the correct boot parameters for launching such an installation? From the apache log of the server hosting preseed.cfg, I see that the installer has no problems fetching the preseed file. My preseed file is almost identical to the one at https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/installation-guide/example-preseed.txt. Moreover, I have run debconf-set-selections -c preseed.cfg to ensure that the preseed file is correct.

    In Visual Studio 2008, after debugging about 1-2 minutes, when I press F10 (Step Over), the debugger hangs and Visual Studio freezes for 5-10 seconds and then go to the next line. Then whatever I do (F10, F5, F11, etc), the debugger continues the execution as if i pressed F5 and all my forms that I was debugging close. I always have to restart the application. It is very hard to reproduce and it does not occurs every time I want to debug something. Does anyone has a solution ?

  • Have Ubuntu 9.10 desktop, just got Macbook Pro. Share over Samba, NFS, other?

    Hi everyone. As the title says, I have and love my Ubuntu 9.10 desktop (use it for programming). Just got a Macbook Pro (Snow Leopard) and stuff like Documents, etc, trying to figure out easiest way to share my Ubuntu desktop with my Macbook Pro. Should I use Samba or NFS and is it easy to configure one (or something else) for only in network access (192.168.1.x). It took me about 2 days to find/setup Macfuse and Macfusion for sshfs to the Fedora web server and I'm hoping there's something much easier for this in network access. But if it requires or is suggested I go ssh, I can do that. Are there any security problems with either Samba or NFS - don't know much about AFP-Apple protocol so I've not brought it up. Thanks in advance.

  • How do I properly dual boot Ubuntu and Windows 7 on an UEFI system?

    I have an HP Z210 with Windows 7, which is UEFI based. I'd like to dual boot it to Ubuntu 11.10 with GRUB2, but am having problems due to the UEFI. The install CD goes to the end, but then the machine always boots right into Windows. These problems are apparently documented (here and here), but there's no consensus as to what the simplest solution is. Any recommendations? I want Ubuntu and Windows to both be bootable. (Perhaps if I knew more about UEFI and its system partition, and how it differs from BIOS and MBR, I'd be in a better position. So background answers explaining how UEFI loads up are very appreciated.)

    I have a server ClueReleaseManager which I have installed on a Ubuntu 12.04 system from a separate user (named pypi), and I want to be able to start this server at startup. I already have tried to create a simple bash script with some commands (login as user pypi, use a virtual python environment, start the server), but this does not work properly. Either the terminal crashes or when I try to ask the status of the service it is started and I am logged in as user pypi ...? So, here the question: What are the steps to take to make sure the ClueReleaseManager service properly starts up on boot time, and which I can control (start/stop/..) during runtime, while the service is running from a user pypi? Additional information and constraints: I want to do this as simple as possible Without any other packages/programs to be installed I am not familiar with the Ubuntu 12.04 init structure All the information I found on the web is very sparse, confusing, incorrect or does not apply to my case of running a service as a different user from root.

  • Manipulating the case of the build macros in Visual Studio: $(TargetDir)

    I've come across a weird problem today in Visual Studio 2005. If I create a new configuration "NewConfiguration" for one of my projects. The output directory referred to by the project in $(TargetDir) is "/path/to/build/area/newconfiguration". Note the loss of capital letters, I'd expect it to be in "/path/to/build/area/NewConfiguration". In another project that I created yesterday, the capital letters are there. Normally this would be a problem, but it's part of a fairly complicated build system where some of it's on unix and we need to worry about case sensitive filename. Does anyone know where the source string for the Visual Studio macros like $(TargetDir) are stored so that I can get the case to be consistent and match what we need for our build system?
