  • How to send KeyEvents trough an input method service to a Dialog, or a Spinner menu?

    - by shutdown11
I'm trying to implement an input method service that receives intents sent by a remote client, and in response to those sends an appropriate KeyEvent. I'm using in the input method service this method private void keyDownUp(int keyEventCode) { getCurrentInputConnection().sendKeyEvent( new KeyEvent(KeyEvent.ACTION_DOWN, keyEventCode)); getCurrentInputConnection().sendKeyEvent( new KeyEvent(KeyEvent.ACTION_UP, keyEventCode)); } to send KeyEvents as in the Simple Sofykeyboard Sample, and it works in the home, in Activities... but it doesn't works when a Dialog or the menu of a Spinner is in foreground. The events is sent to the parent activity behind the Dialog. Is there any way to send keys and control the device like using the hardware keys from an input method?

  • Update model objects across different activities

    - by Tom Esterez
Lets say I have 2 activities: A: A ListView displaying articles titles. Data is fetched from a web server and converted from XML to a list of ArticleSummary. Only user titles and id are returned by the server. Click on a title starts activity B. B: A form to edit an article. Article is fetched from server. When the user hits OK, modifications are sent to the server and activity closed. When the user go back to activity A, I would like to update the article title without any additional web request. I was thinking about the following solution: When article is modified, send a broadcast event with article id and new attributes values. Listen for this event on activity A Update the ArticleSummary object notify data changed on ListView Is there a better approach ?

    - by kirbby
    hi guys, my problem is that i have 5 tables and need inserts and selects. what i did is for every table a class and there i wrote the SQL Statements like this public class Contact private static String IDCont = "id_contact"; private static String NameCont = "name_contact"; private static String StreetCont = "street_contact"; private static String Street2Cont = "street2_contact"; private static String Street3Cont = "street3_contact"; private static String ZipCont = "zip_contact"; private static String CityCont = "city_contact"; private static String CountryCont = "country_contact"; private static String Iso2Cont = "iso2_contact"; private static String PhoneCont = "phone_contact"; private static String Phone2Cont = "phone2_contact"; private static String FaxCont = "fax_contact"; private static String MailCont = "mail_contact"; private static String Mail2Cont = "mail2_contact"; private static String InternetCont = "internet_contact"; private static String DrivemapCont = "drivemap_contact"; private static String PictureCont = "picture_contact"; private static String LatitudeCont = "latitude_contact"; private static String LongitudeCont = "longitude_contact"; public static final String TABLE_NAME = "contact"; public static final String SQL_CREATE = "CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS " + TABLE_NAME + "(" + IDCont + "INTEGER not NULL," + NameCont + " TEXT not NULL," + StreetCont + " TEXT," + Street2Cont + " TEXT," + Street3Cont + " TEXT," + ZipCont + " TEXT," + CityCont + " TEXT," + CountryCont + " TEXT," + Iso2Cont + " TEXT," + PhoneCont + " TEXT," + Phone2Cont + " TEXT," + FaxCont + " TEXT," + MailCont + " TEXT," + Mail2Cont + " TEXT," + InternetCont + " TEXT," + //website of the contact DrivemapCont + " TEXT," + //a link to a drivemap to the contact PictureCont + " TEXT," + //a photo of the contact building (contact is not a person) LatitudeCont + " TEXT," + LongitudeCont + " TEXT," + "primary key(id_contact)" + "foreign key(iso2)"; and my insert looks like this public boolean SQL_INSERT_CONTACT(int IDContIns, String NameContIns, String StreetContIns, String Street2ContIns, String Street3ContIns, String ZipContIns, String CityContIns, String CountryContIns, String Iso2ContIns, String PhoneContIns, String Phone2ContIns, String FaxContIns, String MailContIns, String Mail2ContIns, String InternetContIns, String DrivemapContIns, String PictureContIns, String LatitudeContIns, String LongitudeContIns) { try{ db.execSQL("INSERT INTO " + "contact" + "(" + IDCont + ", " + NameCont + ", " + StreetCont + ", " + Street2Cont + ", " + Street3Cont + ", " + ZipCont + ", " + CityCont + ", " + CountryCont + ", " + Iso2Cont + ", " + PhoneCont + ", " + Phone2Cont + ", " + FaxCont + ", " + MailCont + ", " + Mail2Cont + ", " + InternetCont + ", " + DrivemapCont + ", " + PictureCont + ", " + LatitudeCont + ", " + LongitudeCont + ") " + "VALUES (" + IDContIns + ", " + NameContIns +", " + StreetContIns + ", " + Street2ContIns + ", " + Street3ContIns + ", " + ZipContIns + ", " + CityContIns + ", " + CountryContIns + ", " + Iso2ContIns + ", " + PhoneContIns + ", " + Phone2ContIns + ", " + FaxContIns + ", " + MailContIns + ", " + Mail2ContIns + ", " + InternetContIns + ", " + DrivemapContIns + ", " + PictureContIns + ", " + LatitudeContIns + ", " + LongitudeContIns +")"); return true; } catch (SQLException e) { return false; } } i have a DBAdapter class there i created the database public class DBAdapter { public static final String DB_NAME = "mol.db"; private static final int DB_VERSION = 1; private static final String TAG = "DBAdapter"; //to log private final Context context; private SQLiteDatabase db; public DBAdapter(Context context) { this.context = context; OpenHelper openHelper = new OpenHelper(this.context); this.db = openHelper.getWritableDatabase(); } public static class OpenHelper extends SQLiteOpenHelper { public OpenHelper(Context context) { super(context, DB_NAME, null, DB_VERSION); } @Override public void onCreate(SQLiteDatabase db) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub db.execSQL(Contact.SQL_CREATE); db.execSQL(Country.SQL_CREATE); db.execSQL(Picture.SQL_CREATE); db.execSQL(Product.SQL_CREATE); db.execSQL(Project.SQL_CREATE); } @Override public void onUpgrade(SQLiteDatabase db, int oldVersion, int newVersion) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub Log.w(TAG, "Upgrading database from version " + oldVersion + " to " + newVersion + ", which will destroy all old data"); db.execSQL(Contact.SQL_DROP); db.execSQL(Country.SQL_DROP); db.execSQL(Picture.SQL_DROP); db.execSQL(Product.SQL_DROP); db.execSQL(Project.SQL_DROP); onCreate(db); } i found so many different things and tried them but i didn't get anything to work... i need to know how can i access the database in my activity and how i can get the insert to work and is there sth wrong in my code? thanks for your help thats how i tried to get it into my activity public class MainTabActivity extends TabActivity { private Context context; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.maintabactivity); TabHost mTabHost = getTabHost(); Intent intent1 = new Intent().setClass(this,MapOfLight.class); //Intent intent2 = new Intent().setClass(this,Test.class); //Testactivity //Intent intent2 = new Intent().setClass(this,DetailView.class); //DetailView Intent intent2 = new Intent().setClass(this,ObjectList.class); //ObjectList //Intent intent2 = new Intent().setClass(this,Gallery.class); //Gallery Intent intent3 = new Intent().setClass(this,ContactDetail.class); mTabHost.addTab(mTabHost.newTabSpec("tab_mol").setIndicator(this.getText(R.string.mol), getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.ic_tab_mol)).setContent(intent1)); mTabHost.addTab(mTabHost.newTabSpec("tab_highlights").setIndicator(this.getText(R.string.highlights),getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.ic_tab_highlights)).setContent(intent2)); mTabHost.addTab(mTabHost.newTabSpec("tab_contacts").setIndicator(this.getText(R.string.contact),getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.ic_tab_contact)).setContent(intent3)); mTabHost.setCurrentTab(1); SQLiteDatabase db; DBAdapter dh = null; OpenHelper openHelper = new OpenHelper(this.context); dh = new DBAdapter(this); db = openHelper.getWritableDatabase(); dh.SQL_INSERT_COUNTRY("AT", "Austria", "AUT"); } } i tried it with my country table because it has only 3 columns public class Country { private static String Iso2Count = "iso2_country"; private static String NameCount = "name_country"; private static String FlagCount = "flag_image_url_country"; public static final String TABLE_NAME = "country"; public static final String SQL_CREATE = "CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS " + TABLE_NAME + "(" + Iso2Count + " TEXT not NULL," + NameCount + " TEXT not NULL," + FlagCount + " TEXT not NULL," + "primary key(iso2_country)"; public boolean SQL_INSERT_COUNTRY(String Iso2CountIns, String NameCountIns, String FlagCountIns) { try{ db.execSQL("INSERT INTO " + "country" + "(" + Iso2Count + ", " + NameCount + ", " + FlagCount + ") " + "VALUES ( " + Iso2CountIns + ", " + NameCountIns +", " + FlagCountIns + " )"); return true; } catch (SQLException e) { return false; } } another question is it better to put the insert and select from each table into a separate class, so i have 1 class for each table or put them all into the DBAdapter class?

  • Determine opencore or stagefright framework for mediaplayer?

    - by user415422
I need to determine if a mediaplayer is using the opencore media framework, so that I can disable seeking for my streams. The opencore framework appears to fail silently with seeking, which I am having a hard time believing they allowed into production, but that seems the case nonetheless. I wish it were as simple as determining their SDK version, but droid phones that have api 8 seem to use opencore still, so doesn't seem to be a good option. Any ideas?

Hi, I have a curiosity about application updates . What happens after such a process with the resources supposing that the update needs different resources than the ones the old version used ? Are they overwritten ?( like overwrite string.xml) or the old resources are deleted and replaced with the new ones ?

  • Data 'logger' turning off when phone goes to standbymode

    - by Marko Järvenpää
I'm creating a datalogger which logs the gps data and the sensor data of the phone. I've just a strange problem. If the phone is not touched for few minutes it goes into standby mode (screen goes black), and that causes the logger to stop working. Actually the firewriting in the logger stops working. The GPS resumes fine after coming out of blackscreen, but when I check the log I created it only shows saved points for few minutes. Does anyone have idea what is causing this?

  • Which type of data can be garbage collected when app is in background?

    - by Neoh
Let's say I start from activity A - activity B. While in activity B I press home to exit. After a long time, gc may be called because other apps take higher priority. My question is, which of the following type of data will be garbage collected (I'm pretty sure static fields can be garbage collected any time but I'm not sure about these): i) fields that are declared final or static final ii) intent and its data that I passed from activity A to activity B iii) onSavedInstanceState when orientation is changed during the app running I ask this because I want to ensure that my app won't crash when I restore activity B from background after a long period.

  • Is there any way to store full size image returned from camera activity in internal memory ?

    - by SimpleGuy
I am using Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE); intent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT,Uri.fromFile(externalFileObj)); intent to call default camera activity. To get full image you need to specify intent.putExtra(). But this always requires URI that works only for external storage files. I tried to create a temp.jpg image in internal memory and pass its URI Uri.fromFile(new File(getFilesDir() + "/temp.jpg")); but the camera activity won't return back after the image is captured. So there is no way to get Full size image from default camera application in our activity without using any external storage ? Assuming that the device do not have SD card or currently in use is there no way I can avoid using it ? Yes I know we can create our own camerapreview surface but I want to use the default camera application as it is natural with many more options. Thanks.

  • Prevent Activity from saving state when user selects back button

    - by martinjd
    I have an Activity with a list that is bound to a ListAdapter reading data into a ArrayList from a database. All is well when the data is first loaded. While the Activity is open and the list is being displayed it is possible and likely that the data in the database will be updated by a service but the list does not reflect the changes because the ArrayList does not know about the changes. If the Activity is no longer in the foreground as would be the case if the user goes to the home screen and then is brought back to the foreground I would like for the Activity to not display what it did prior but rather reload the data using the ListAdapter the view is bound to. I think something needs to call finish() but I am not sure what. This is what I have in the Activity. @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); setUpViews(); app = (MyApplication) getApplication(); adapter = new MyListAdapter(this, app.getMyEvents()); setListAdapter(adapter); } @Override protected void onResume() { super.onResume(); adapter.forceReload(); }

  • Should we EVER use dp values for width/height?

    - by sandalone
I've come across a project done by some other team which I have to fix. They used dp values for images' width/height. When I tried to adopt the layout for some tablets and/or mobiles, I've faced a lot of troubles. For example, the image of 40x40 dp has top padding of 15dp. When such image is loaded by some new mobile screen, the image is not where is was supposed to be - it's either shifted or distorted or of the wrong size. Now I need to propose a redesign of the whole app and I need some advise from the more experienced community. Should I abandon such layout policy (described abobe) and do like this: make the image with the size of 40x40 px position the image for the mdpi screen set its height/width to wrap_content do like this for other images after I finish layout for mdpi, resize each image for ldpi, hdpi and xhdpi screens in case of a special mobile/tablet, make a special set of images + xml files Is there a way when you would advise to use the explicit size of some images? Do you advise setting the size of images in xml layout or setting size via photoshop or similar graphics tools and then resize images for other screen sizes or screen densities?

  • Recover lost code from compiled apk

    - by AlexRamallo
I have an issue here..and its making me really nervous. I was working on this game, and it was going great, so I took a copy of it on my laptop to work do some work while away from my computer. long story short, hard-drive failure + poor back ups led to me losing a very important class. Is there a way to decompile the apk to retrieve the bit of code that was lost? It isn't overly complicated or sophisticated, its just that its impossible to re-write it without reading every. single. line. of. code. in the entire application since it initializes a LOT of classes and loads a bunch of stuff in a specific way. With a quick google search I was able to find apktool, which decompiles it into a bunch of .smali files, which I don't think were designed for human reading. All I need to recover is one very big method in the class. I found the smali file that contains it and I think I found the line where it starts. something like .method public declared-synchronized load(Lcom/X/X/game/X;)I Anyone help would be appreciated since I would have to scrap the entire game without this method.

  • Adding on touch event to images inside gridview

    - by Steve
I have a gridview where each item has a image and a textview (an app), i added the onItemClick to the gridview in order to launch the app, i also removed the orange selection and made selector in xml so when pressed the text would change to grey and on release it would return to white. My problem is that i need the image to apply an alpha value when pressed and restore the previous alpha on release i tested a lot of ways and none did worked correctly. I came close with the updated answer from the autor of the question: How to set alpha value for drawable in a StateListDrawable?, but some how the state pressed never gets called, i don´t know if this is because i am using the onitemClick to launch the app or not. Also i since i can´t define the alpha on imageview xml i don´t know what else to do Any help will be appreciated

  • Why do toast notifications die if delayed?

    - by ubershmekel
I'm not sure this is the exact cause of my problem but I'll explain the 2 symptoms I noticed: If I put a break point on a Toast.makeText(..).show(), step over, then wait a few seconds before running, the toast will never appear. I have a location callback that tries to show a toast, but it never appears. Maybe I'm doing something else wrong, this is the line in question in my open source distress signal app. Any help or pointers would be appreciated, --uber

  • Using Regular Expressions

    - by bebeTech
I am having problems trying to use the regular expression that I used in JavaScript. On a web page, you may have: <b>Renewal Date:</b> 03 May 2010</td> I just want to be able to pull out the 03 May 2010, remembering that a webpage has more than just the above content. The way I currently perform this using JavaScript is: DateStr = /<b>Renewal Date:<\/b>(.+?)<\/td>/.exec(returnedHTMLPage); I tried to follow some tutorials on java.util.regex.Pattern and java.util.regex.Matcher with no luck. I can't seem to be able to translate (.+?) into something they can understand?? thanks, Noeneel

  • Can I create an activity for a particular task without that task coming to the foreground?

    - by Neil Traft
Here's my use case: The app starts at a login screen. You enter your credentials and hit the "Login" button. Then a progress dialog appears and you wait for some stuff to download. Once the stuff has downloaded, you are taken to a new activity. Exactly which activity you are taken to depends on the server response. Here's my problem: If you go HOME during this login/download process, at some point in the near future your download will complete and will invoke startActivity(). So then the new activity will be pushed to the foreground, rudely interrupting the user. I can't start the activity before I start the download, because, as I mentioned earlier, the activity I start depends on the result of the download. I would obviously not like to interrupt the user like this. One way to solve this is to refrain from calling startActivity() until the user returns to the app. I can do this by keeping track of the LoginActivity's onStop() and onRestart(). But I'm wondering, is there any way to create the activity while it is in the background? That way the user returns to the app and he is ready to go... otherwise he would have to wait for the new activity to be created (which could take some time because the new activity also has to download and display some data). Update: Guess what? I LIED! I could have sworn that starting this activity was causing it to come to the foreground, but I went back to test it again and the problem has magically disappeared. I tested in both 1.6 and 2.0.1 and both OSes were smart enough not to bring a backgrounded task to the front.

  • Rhomobile vs. Phonegap considerations

    - by NewB
I'm debating between Phonegap and RhoMobile for cross platform mobile application development. I'm a web developer with experience in Ruby as well as the traditional web technologies (HTML, CSS, and Javascript). The backend of this application will be accessed via a web browser and built with Rails. What are my chief concerns when choosing between these platforms? Which would you recommend I go with and WHY? Thank you

  • What happens to thread as onDestroy is called when device is rotated

    - by Lakshmie
I would like to know as to what will happen to the thread which has been created by an activity and the device is rotated. I have observed that the onDestroy method is called when this happens. Will the thread be killed too? If the thread is not killed, how can I reassociate the thread with the activity as a new instance of the activity is created on rotation. Thanks, Lakshmie

  • background picture for textview

    - by AndyAndroid
Hi, I have a textview and a nine-patch image. Assigning this image in the xml editor to the tag "background" works as desired. Now I want to set this image dynamically in the coding, I thought myTextView.setBackgroundDrawable(mydrawable); would be the right thing to do. My png is in res/drawable. The API says that mydrawable needs to be an object of type drawable R.drawable.myninepatch is of type int. So my problem is that I have to convert from that int to a drawable somehow. Then I thought I can use a constructor NinePatchDrawable mydrawable = new NinePatchDrawable(); But I am again not able to construct such an object. Anyone an idea? Thanks.
