• Two DIV layers: resize top DIV based on dynamic height of bottom DIV

  I have two DIV layers, one above the other. In the top DIV, there is an image, and in the bottom DIV, there is a block of text. The amount of text in the bottom DIV will change, thus increasing and decreasing the required height. I need to dynamically decrease the height of the image in the top DIV based on how much height is required for the bottom. I have exactly 600px vertical space available. For example: If the bottom DIV requires 200px height, I need for the image to change height to 400px. If the bottom DIV requires 300px height, I need for the image to change height to 300px. I know that I can make the image height 100% of the top DIV, thus allowing it to expand or contract as needed. The issue is that I need for the bottom DIV to be able to expand freely and for the top DIV to react accordingly. • An alternative to reading input from Java's System.in

  I’m working on the UVa Online Judge problem set archive as a way to practice Java, and as a way to practice data structures and algorithms in general. They give an example input file to submit to the online judge to use as a starting point (it’s the solution to problem 100). Input from the standard input stream (java.lang.System.in) is required as part of any solution on this site, but I can’t understand the implementation of reading from System.in they give in their example solution. It’s true that the input file could consist of any variation of integers, strings, etc, but every solution program requires reading basic lines of text input from System.in, one line at a time. Isn’t there a better way to do this, using the StringTokenizer class or maybe using the split method of String or the java.util.regex package instead?

  This question may seem daft (I'm a new to 'programming' and should probably stop if this is the type of question I'm required to ask)... What are: "basic programs like, recursion, fibonacci, factorial, string manipulation, small trick programs"? I've recently read Coding Horror - the non programmer and followed the links to Kegel and How to get hired. Then I delved through some similar questions here (hence the block quote) and I realised that as a fully fledged non-programmer I probably wouldn't know if I knew recursion (or any of the others) because I wouldn't know what it looked like, or why it was used, and what the results would look like after it was used. I suppose I'm trying to get a picture of "the basics". What the principles are and why we learn them - where they'll be used and what result/s your looking for. If they'll be used as an interview question during my first interview sometime in 2020 I would like to look less ignorant than those 199 out of 200 who just don't know the how, or the why, of programming. • Use Java exceptions internally for REST API user errors?

  We have a REST API that works great. We're refactoring and deciding how to internally handle errors by the users of our API. For example the user needs to specify the "movie" url parameter which should take the value of "1984", "Crash", or "Avatar". First we check to see if it has a valid value. What would be the best approach if the movie parameter is invalid? return null from one of the internal methods and check for the null in the main API call method throw an exception from the internal method and catch exceptions in the main API method I think it would make our code more readable and elegant to use exceptions. However, we're reluctant because we'd be potentially throwing many exceptions because of user API input errors, our code could be perfect. This doesn't seem to be the proper use of exceptions. If there are heavy performance penalties with exceptions, which would make sense with stack traces needing to be collected, etc., then we're unnecessarily spending resources when all we need to do is tell the user the parameter is wrong. These are REST API methods, so we're not propogating the exceptions to the users of the API, nor would we want to even if possible. So what's the best practice here? Use ugly nulls or use java's exception mechanism?

• .NET socket timeout - blocking on Close method

  I'm having trouble implementing a connect timeout using asynchronous socket calls. The idea being that I call BeginConnect on a Socket object, then use a timer to call Close() on the socket after a timeout period has elapsed. This works fine as long as the socket is created on the GUI thread - the Close method returns immediately, and the callback method is executed. However, if the socket is created on any other thread, the Close method blocks until the default IP timeout occurs.   Hello Everybody, We develop applications for SAP using their SDK. SAP provides a SDK for changing and handling events occuring in the user interface. For example, with this SDK we can catch a click on a button and do something on the click. This programming can be done either VB or C#. This can also be used to create new fields on the pre-existing form. We have developed a specific application which allows users to store the definition required for new field in a database table and the fields are created at the run time. So far, this is good. What we require now is that the user should be able to store the validation code for the field in the database and the same should be executed on the run time.   I am attempting to allow user to upload videos to Flickr from an Asp.net application using the FlickrNet library/API. I've obtained an API key and an API secret from Flickr. Additionally I am retrieving an authToken using the AuthGetFrob method from the FlickrNet library. My Using Statements are as Follows using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using FlickrNet; I have created two methods to accomplish this task. • ASP.NET Sql Timeout

  Well we have this Asp.Net application that we installed at a customer but now some times we get a SqlException that says "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding." now the wired thing is that the exception comes instantly when i press the button, this does not happen every time i press the button so its random.. any idea what i could try to pinpoint the problem? We are using the EnterpriseLibrary Database block if that matters... • geocoder.getFromLocationName returns only null

Sooo, i am confuzed now. What do I have to call, import, add, use in code.... to make this work? I am using Google Api2.2, Api level 8. If somebody has found a solution for this, or a pointer for documentation, something that i didn't discover, please let us know. Thank you for your time.

Basically, the QuickFix component provides a list of solutions and my task is to select the best possible fix and apply it to the buggy code. • Checking for corrupt war file after mvn install

  Is there a maven command that will verify that a WAR file is valid and not corrupt? Or is there some other program or technique to validate zip files? I'm on Ubuntu 9.10, so a linux solution is preferred. On occasion, I end up with a corrupt WAR file after doing mvn clean and mvn install on my project. If I extract the WAR file to my hard drive, an error occurs and the file doesn't get extracted. I believe this happens when my system is in a low-memory condition, because this tends to happen only when lots of memory is in use. After rebooting, doing a mvn install always gives a valid WAR file. Because this happens infrequently, I don't typically test the file by uncompressing it. I transfer the 50MB war file to my server and then restart Jetty with it as the root webapp. But when the file is corrupt, I get a java.util.zip.ZipException: invalid block type error. So I'm looking for a quick way to validate the file as soon as mvn install is completed. Is there a maven command to do this? Any other ideas?

• Sub Menu Rollover Pop up Not Showing

  Hello everyone, hopefully this will be an easy answer for some of you CSS veterans out there. I'm developing a site for a client. For readability, I'll just give you a link to the website and the css page in question. HTML CSS I'm trying to make a sub menu pop up to the right of the main menu when you scroll over "Star Quartz Grout." My current CSS obviously isn't correct though, and I could use some guidance. ul#subNav {display: none; width: 134px; } li:hover ul#subNav, li.over ul#subNav {display: inline-block; position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 134px; } My guess is that it's working but it's hidden behind the rest of the page. I could be wrong though. It's kind of hard to confirm, even with Chrome's "Inspect Element" (very nice thing btw). It's probably some dumb mistake. Anyway, thanks in advance. I'm a bit of a CSS novice.

• Format date from SQLCE to display in DataGridView

  hi folks, I have a DataGridView bound to a table from a .sdf database through a BindSource. The date column display dates like "d/M/yyyy HH:mm:ss". e.: "27/2/1971 00:00:00". I want to make it display just "27/02/1971" in its place. I tried to apply DataGridViewCellStyle {format=dd/MM/yyyy} but nothing happens, event with other pre-built formats. On the the other side, there's a Form with a MasketTextBox with a "dd/MM/yyyy" mask to its input that is bound to the same column and uses a Parse and a Format event handler before display and send it to the db. Likewise, the result date for parse should be a datetime but its a string also. I'm puzzled dealing with this datetime column.

• Javascript "Member not found" error in IE8

  I'm trying to debug the following block of Javascript code to see what the issue is. I'm getting an error that says "Member not found" on the line constructor = function() { in the extend:function() method. I'm not very good with Javascript, and I didn't write this, so I'm kind of lost on what the issue is. • iText PDFReader Extremely Slow To Open

  I have some code that combines a few pages of acro forms (with acrofields in tact) and then at the end writes some JS to the entire document. It is the PdfReader in the function adding the JS that is taking extremely long to instantiate (about 12 seconds for a 1MB file). Here is the code (pretty simple): public static byte[] AddJavascript(byte[] document, string js) { PdfReader reader = new PdfReader(new RandomAccessFileOrArray(document), null); MemoryStream msOutput = new MemoryStream(); PdfStamper stamper = new PdfStamper(reader, msOutput); PdfWriter writer = stamper.Writer; writer.AddJavaScript(js); stamper.Close(); reader.Close(); byte[] withJS = msOutput.GetBuffer(); return withJS; } I have benchmarked the above and the line that is slow is the first one. I have tried reading it from a file instead of memory and tried using a MemoryStream instead of the RandomAccessFileOrArray. Nothing makes it any faster. If I add JS to a single page document, it is very fast. So my thought is that the code that combines the pages is somehow making the PDF slow to read for the PdfReader. • jQuery cycle plugin customizing

  I'm using the jQuery Cycle plugin to start a slidshow of images when hovering over the initial image. This works fine. What I want after that is to have the slideshow stop when hovered off, and have a manual slideshow (next/prev buttons) start. This currently works, but the slideshow starts from the beginning each time it's initialized. I want it to begin at the current image that's loaded. • Over-enthusiastic Intellisense in VS2010 - can I tweak it?

  Since I have upgraded from VS2008 to VS2010, I've been having an increasingly infuriating battle with the Intellisense. For example, when specifying CSS styles, when I press Enter to start an new line, Intellisense (appropriately) lists available Styles to me. And if I select color and then type ':', it presents a list of color presets - often helpful. However, if I type in a space (I like them for readability) or if I type '#' to enter RGB values, it selected the default Intellisense selection, in this case inherits. Another example is in an ASP.NET page - say I am concatenating strings, I type myString =, I get an Intellisense pop-up. If I type space or '"' (to enter a literal) or '.' (so select a property or method within a WITH block), the Intellisense selects the first entry in the list. I can dismiss the Intellisense pop-ups with escape but it makes it incredibly slow to code. This behaviour is different to my VS2008 set-up. I can't seem to find any way to configure Intellisense to behave differently... I really only want it to select and Intellisense entry when I type or ... at least, certainly not when I type '"' or ' ' or '.'!

  I am trying to get Undo/Redo keyboard shortcuts working in my WPF application (I have my own custom functionality implemented using the Command Pattern). It seems, however, that the TextBox control is intercepting my "Undo" RoutedUICommand. What is the simplest way to disable this so that I can catch Ctrl+Z at the root of my UI tree? I would like to avoid putting a ton of code/XAML into each TextBox in my application if possible. • Use of SAX parser in Android - OutOfMemory Issue

  Hi everybody, I have been using a SAX parser for a while now to get data from various XML, but today i'm banging my head on a new problem with a hudge XML (compared to the previous ones . here around 12k lines) with a lot of repetitive items in it. Most of the time, the items are part of a block : <content> <item lbl="blabla"> <item lbl="blabla"/> <item lbl="blabla"/> </item> <item lbl="blabla"> <item lbl="blabla"/> <item lbl="blabla"/> <item lbl="blabla"/> <item lbl="blabla"/> <item lbl="blabla"/> <item lbl="blabla"/> </item> </content> The blabla part is of course changing...But, I would like to keep the structure of items (they are titles and subtitles). And for that, I append each blabla with a starting and ending tag blabla, where x is the position in the tree of items (1, 2, 3 or 4). The slightly problematic part is that with that, I'm creating thousands of useless objects and the garbage collector doesn't have time to clean after the parser, and the inevitable OutOfMemory comes in my face... I have no idea of how to deal with it; The best technique would be if I could take the whole content of , but i'm not sure that this is possible with a SAX parser. Any help is welcome and any solution deeply thanked...
