  Can you help me to find compatible modern server for QNX, please? This is quite rare OS, so most of the hardware vendors do not have compatibility information. • Changing the mac address in a libvirt xml config file breaks network connectivity for the guest

  I'm using Xen with libvirt and trying to set it up on a bridged interface. I am able to install an OS and everything works as I would expect. If I save the xml output from "virsh dumpxml guest", edit the mac address for the interface, and then define the domU with this new xml file I find that traffic is no longer forwarded from the vif0.0 interface to br0. The ifcfg-eth0 file on the guest was automatically updated to reflect the new mac address and the ifconfig output looks the same. Does anyone know why this is happening or how to properly change the mac address for a libvirt configuration?

  I need a software for automatic time tracking on Windows. With the following features: It should record time spent using the computer each day. Start time and end time. It should record what programs the employee used and total time for that program for specified period of time. It must have a centralized server that collects and stores all data. It could be a cloud server outside of a company network. It must have a web interface for viewing the monthly reports (the last but the most important requirement!). A nice feature to have would be an automatic generation of timesheets and Mac OS X support. I am looking to use it for a small team, this is not for personal use. Does anybody knows about software with these features?

• Virtualbox 4 hangs when trying to install ubuntu guest on ubuntu host system

  I'm trying to install ubuntu server using virtualbox 4.0.4 in a ubuntu 10.10 host OS. I have the iso image on my hard drive which I used to perform the install. I edited the settings and added this image at the storage section, selected it as a primary master, so I could boot from it and start the install process. But now, each time I start the installation, at the very beginning or if I'm lucky, after I click on the install link at the welcome screen, the process hangs and all the computer is blocked. This happened 3 times already. I even tried to perform the installation using an old CD I had with the 9.10 server version, thinking that the iso image might be the issue, but the problem still persists. I dont know what could cause this problem. My computer is a dell laptop with AMD processor (I dont know if this is important). Any help is very appreciated.

• What browser is sending user agent beginning mozilla/5.0+, tramslates & into &amp;

  We've got a website which has been running for a few years now. One of our customers has just started having an intermittent problem. Looking at our iis6.0 logs the service works correctly when they have a user agent beginning "mozilla/4.0+" but fails when the user agent begins "mozilla/5.0+". The particular customer only started having this problem on Wednesday. Does anyone know the browser/upgrade which changes the 4.0 to 5.0? The actual problem caused is that an "&" in a url parameter list is being encoded as "&amp;". Anyone seen anything similar? We have other users sending from browsers with the 5.0+ user agent without trouble. Sorry about the tags but don't have the rep to create new ones. • Improper output in SSH session on OSX using FreeSSHd on Windows with cygwin bash/sh shell

  I am testing out running an SSH server on a local Windows VM. I have installed FreeSSHd and set the command shell to "c:\cygwin\bin\sh --login -i" (bash as well) with "Use new console engine" unchecked. • PXE in an 802.1X environment

  My organization is about to implement 802.1X on our enterprise, but we currently use PXE-based OS deployment sequences in SCCM. I'm looking for a way to continue using PXE in an 802.1X environment. Our infrastructure uses Cisco network gear running at 12.2 (or newer). We are an all Windows network and all clients support 802.1X. All new workstations have Intel AMT available (but not factory configured). In a worst case scenario, we'll use a guest vlan for OSD, but I'd rather have the OSD occur in an authenticated session. I've seen white papers that describe using AMT to act as a supplicant for PXE boot, but can't find any implementation details...

• VMWare Guest NIC Teaming

  We're looking to add additional bandwidth to a VM running on an ESXi cluster running 5.1. How can I team these within the VM? I suspect I need to add a second e1000 and then install some Intel software to team them. Any idea which version of Intel driver? Is there some better software to use? EDIT: Sorry, neglected some information. The guest OS is Win2k8R2. The physical NICs on the host are 1Gbps. The reason this has come up is we are seeing the VM hitting near cap on the capability of a single 1Gbps link (Usually at 100-110MBps, bursting to 130s, but I think that may just be a UI math lie) and we're interested in seeing if adding an additional NIC in a teamed setting will increase the overall throughput.

• Windows 8 - can't drag files from Explorer and drop on applications

  In Windows 8 I find I can't drag files to applications like I've been able to do for as long as I can remember. Example: Drag MP3s to Winamp Drag folder full of music to Winamp Drag videos to VLC Drag txt, reg etc files to Notepad I have tried various combinations of: Running Explorer as administrator Running drop target as administrator Taking ownership of drop target application's folder Taking ownership of Explorer Changing user account to administrator Create a new user account Lowering UAC level Disabling UAC in GUI Disabling UAC in registry Running Explorer folders in a separate thread This is the last straw if there's no known proper (ie non hacky compromise) fix for this. "Little" things like this combined are a productivity nightmare and if I have to relearn so much and configure so much to get basic things done with an OS I might as well just move to Linux once and for all.

• Virtual guest does not have network access in cafe.

  My Virtualbox guest OS (Ubuntu on ubuntu host) does not connect to the internet when I have wifi access through an internet cafe system. By this, I mean where your browser redirects to an internal web page where you can enter a code. On the guest, I can successfully connect to the virtual network adapter, but I do not get internet access, nor a redirect to the internal web page. I use OpenDNS for the host. I have no problems when connecting through ethernet or regular wifi. Can someone tell me any of: 1) How to fix the problem. 2) How such cafe systems work. 3) At least point me to a technical explanation of such a cafe system so I can begin to troubleshoot. Thanks!

• KVM machine does not start ssh, network is started, used to work

  have been searching an pulling my hear out for the last 6 hours. I have a virtual machine that has been running fine for the last six months. I was happy ssh'ing into it and it was running a database and some small apps. Tonight ssh stopped working, so I decided to reboot the machine. I now have the following situation: virsh list --all states machine as running I can ping the machine and get a reply When I ssh to the machine I see "ssh: connect to host [myserver] port 22: Connection refused" nmap does not show port 22 as open I have tried to: - reboot the machine once more (no luck) - mount the filesystem and check /etc/ssh/sshd.conf (has not changed since working situation) - install virsh console, however this does not seem to work When I mount the fs directly using losetup the strange thing is that file dates seem to be frozen in /var/log/ around the time of the crash. If I look in /var/run/ I can see an sshd.pid, but the time is 6 hours ago (and numerous reboots). • Proper network configuration for a KVM guest to be on the same networks at the host

  I am running a Debian Linux server on Lenny. Within it, I am running another Lenny instance using KVM. Both servers are externally available, with public IPs, as well as a second interface with private IPs for the LAN. Everything works fine, except the VM sees all network traffic as originating from the host server. I suspect this might have something to do with the iptables-based firewall I'm running on the host. What I'd like to figure out is: how to I properly configure the host's networking such that all of these requirements are met? Both host and VMs have 2 network interfaces (public and private). Both host and VMs can be independently firewalled. Ideally, VM traffic does not have to traverse the host firewall. VMs see real remote IP addresses, not the host's.   all. My company host all the software, including application and website in one local ubuntu server. But recently we start to use Amazon EC2, and want to move the whole server to cloud. Is there anyway to copy the entire server to EC2? OS is the same, ubuntu 12.04, and just one server, and one user account. On EC2 is also one instance, one account. I don't know whether there is a simple and quick way to do that. Thanks a lot!!

• Problem with Windows activation on a VM (Virtual machine)

  I backed up a number of laptops to virtual machines before they are to be re-purposed, in case I need the data at some later time. While the Physical to VM processes worked fine I am encountering issues on some of the VMs. When I boot them I get an error message saying I MUST activate windows in order to login. This is expected because the hardware changed (from physical hardware to virtualized hardware). I click the OK button and expect to be prompted with ways to activate, windows sits there for quite a while then tells me that "Windows has already been activated". I click OK at that message and get take back to the beginning where I am asked to activate Windows. I have done some fairly intensive googling but haven't been able to find a real solution. EDIT: The laptops with the issues are 2 Sony Vaios, I believe that they have the OEM version of the OS originally installed by the factory.

  Hello I didn't find the answer in Clonezilla's site/mailing list archives. Maybe someone has already seen this issue and knows how to recover from it: On a test host, using www.partedmagic.com, I created two partitions: One to hold an OS I wish to use for testing (/sda1), and a second partition to hold images (/sda2) After trying out Windows7, I used CloneZilla to restore an XPSP3 image, but I get the following error message when rebooting: "Reboot and select proper boot device" Could it be that Clonezilla didn't save/restore the MBR? Gparted didn't let me set a partition as "active", so it could also be this, but I have no idea. Thank you for any help.

• Windows 2000 Inaccessible Boot Device

  I am working with a machine that had its motherboard die. The machine is running Windows 2000 for legacy software. After the motherboard died I used disk2vhd to perform a physical to virtual transfer. The drive data seemed to copy over to the vhd file well. However, whenever i try to boot I get a message saying Inaccessible Boot Device So far I have tried several things to fix it. fixMBR fixBoot chkdsk windows 2000 automated repair Also, I have attempted to open the registry of the vhd without any success. There is another fix that i have seen suggested that requires editing the registry. Is it possible to open a Windows 2000 hive in another OS or another copy of Windows 2000? One other thing to note is that the error appears in all of Virtual PC 2007, Hyper-V and VMWare Player. Does anyone know how to get past this?

• What is the purpose of a boot priority sequence or order in BIOS

  A BIOS provides multiple options for specifying an order/priority to search for boot devices. Is there really much of a purpose now to have to specify more than one possible boot device? It would seem to me it is only useful when popping in an CD/DVD to install an OS after which the common scenario is to always boot from the hard drive unless something is broken. I'm curious as to why not simply have 1 option/device to set in the BIOS and expect the user to press a key to do alternate boot instead? Is there still a scenario for having the BIOS try multiple devices in a configured order?

  Possible Duplicate: How do I disable administrator prompt in Windows 8? When I upgraded from Windows 7 Pro 64-bit to Windows 8 Pro 64-bit, I noticed some permissions issues extremely problematic to my using the OS. When running Windows 7 or Vista with UAC off, I was able to navigate around the filesystem as if I was on Windows XP and prior such that I didn't have to run as administrator and could copy and edit files wherever I wanted. In Windows 8, turning off UAC no longer does this. Does anyone know how to get Windows 8's permissions to act like Windows 7 and Vista when UAC is disabled?
