  • loading xml into SQL Server 2008 using sqlbulkload component

    "Error: Schema: relationship expected on 'headerRecord'." I get the above error while load xml file to SQL Server 2008 using SQLXMLBulkLoad4 Component , the xml file contains Call Detail records, I have generated schema file from xml file using both , Dataset and XSD.exe tool, but the error remains same., if there is another way to imports xml file with multiple tables that have relationship in each file into SQL Server 2008? . Hopefully, it won't end here and more optimistically future posts might actually be me trying to give a hand to someone else, I do owe this community that much and more. Now, what I'm trying to do is simple and most probably the reason behind it not working is my own stupidity. However, I'm stumped here. I'm working on an ASP.Net website that interacts with an SQL Server 2008 R2 database. So far everything has been going okay but updating a row (or more) just won't work. I even tried copying and pasting code from this site and others but it's always the same thing. In short: No exception or errors are shown when the update command executes (it even gives the correct count of affected rows) but no changes are actually made on the database. Am I asking about a group of software engineers who get together F2F (or maybe online) and discuss technical and industry issues with deep zeal and interest -- a place where meaningful connections are made. Here are the only examples I have ever seen: Open source Maybe the Silicon Valley Java Users' Group Homebrew Computing Club in the '70's This sort of thing does exist in academia. Of course, there are lots of conferences and attempts at user's groups. However, almost all committed, serious software engineers, when asked about this, say "I don't have the time", which means that the organizations are not worthwhile to the best in our profession. Has anyone seen any organizations with an ongoing spirit of enthusiasm from top software engineers?

  • Open source level editor for HTML5 platform game?

    A natty GUI editor is very helpful to create level map. I want to use some open-source choices rather than build my own from scratch. I found Tiled Map Editor but it doesn't work for what I want. Though I'm building HTML5 game, I don't have to use a HTML5 level editor as long as it can output well-formatted map files which my javascript can read. Edit: Sorry for the confusion. Tiled does not work for me because to make the player perform a 'tricky' jump, sometimes I want to set the distance between two platforms to, say, 7/3 or 8/3 tiles. But in Tiled I get only 2 or 3. If Tiled can do this, please teach me.

  • Unit-Testing functions which have parameters of classes where source code is not accessible

    Relating to this question, I have another question regarding unit testing functions in the utility classes: Assume you have function signatures like this: public function void doSomething(InternalClass obj, InternalElement element) where InternalClass and InternalElement are both Classes which source code are not available, because they are hidden in the API. Additionally, doSomething only operates on obj and element. I thought about mocking those classes away but this option is not possible due to the fact that they do not implement an interface at all which I could use for my Mocking classes. However, I need to fill obj with defined data to test doSomething. How can this problem be solved?

  • Should I add old code into my repository?

    I've got an SVN repository of a PHP site and the last programmer didn't use source control properly. As a result, only code since I started working here is in the Repo. I have a bunch of old copies of the full code base saved in files as "backups" but they're not in source control. I don't know why most of the copies were saved nor do I have any reasonable way to tag them to a version number. Due to upgrades to the frameworks and database drivers involved, the old code is quite defunct; it no longer works on the current server config. However, the previous programmers had some...unique...logic, so I hate to be completely without old copies to refer to what on earth they were doing. Should I keep this stuff in version control? How? Wall off the old code in separate Tags/branches?

    I'm a PHP developer on Linux, and my manager wants a business intelligence dashboard. He wants to see in real-time our profit/loss stuff in fancy charts, based on our software sales. I could code it all from scratch and use Google Charts API or some other charts API to help me. However, I wanted to know if there was a free, open source, PHP-based business intelligence package out there, or some sort of widget framework that I could start with.     I need to get a e-commerce site up and running, but I really don't want to program it from the bottom up if I don't need to. I want to program it using ASP.NET MVC. I'm looking for a good open source alternative (or one for purchase if it's modular enough) that I can use as a base and enhance with the needed functions? It has to have all "normal" e-commerce functions, and also the possibility to integrate with a credit card API of my choice. If anyone have any recommendations for me here, I would appreciate it :)

    Thanks to all the nice comments from people who attended my presentation at DDD9, and extra thanks to Jon Skeet, Mark Rendle and Mike Hadlow for coming on stage for the last ten minutes to help debate whether the Async CTP is the correct way to go to enhance C# 5.0.     I have recently bought humble bundle 2 ( http://www.humblebundle.com/ ). Is there a way to run Braid using ATI's open-source drivers? The game always crashes. When do get it to start in windowed mode once i go to the first level it will crash. I am using the lastest version of Braid (ST3C ignored) When I use the proprietary drivers Braid works flawlessly and World of Goo performance is increased. However there is terrible screen tearing with the ATI propritary drivers. So my question is: How do I play Braid if I want to use the proprietary drivers?

    Ive come into a bit of an issue lately regarding shopping cart software, and i would like some recommendations. I have been an OsCommerce developer for years now, and im finding alot of my clients are wanting updated looking backends ... OSC is fantastic, but the fact that its not being updated anymore and that its clunky and table based is taking up quite a bit of my time. I have built a few sites on Magento, and although it gives quite a good backend, it is the slowest shopping cart i have ever come across in my time, that and the fact that modifying it takes years, has convinced me not to use that again. So, i like any input as to what people are finding good in todays open source shopping cart software.
