• Editing tags in bunch of MP3 files?

  I have a bunch of files whose filename looks like "<Track> - <Title> - <Artist>.mp3". I'd like to rewrite their MP3 Title tag to be "<Track> - <Title>.mp3" so that each song is displayed correctly on my elcheapo MP3 player. Since I rarely edit MP3 files anyway, MP3 Tag Tools 1.2 Build 008 from 2003 was good enough, but I can't figure out how to do this with this application. I just tried MP3Tag 2.46, but couldn't figure out if it can do this (created a new Action, to no avail). I also tried TagScanner 5.1.558, without success. Does someone know of a good, free Windows application that can do this? Thank you.

• Raid0 performance degradation?

  Not sure if this belongs here or on SuperUser, feel free to move as appropriate. I've noticed the performance on my RAID0 setup seems to have degraded over the past months. The throughput is fine, but I think the random access time has increased or something. In use I generally see about 1-5mb/sec when loading stuff in Visual Studio and other apps and it doesn't seem like the CPU is bottlenecking as the CPU utilization is pretty low. I don't recall what Access Time used to be, but HD Tune is reporting 12.6ms Read throughput is showing as averaging about 125MB/sec so it should be great for sequential reads. Defrag daily and it shows fragmentation levels low, so that shouldn't be an issue. Additional info, Windows 7 x64, Intel raid controller on mobo, WD Black 500GB (I think 32mb cache) x2.

• Is Test Driven Development viable in game development?

  As being Scrum certified, I tend to prone for Agile methodologies while developping a system, and even use some canvas from the Scrum framework to manage my day-to-day work. Besides, I am wondering whether TDD is an option in game development, if it is viable? If I believe this GD question, TDD is not much of a use in game development. Why are MVC & TDD not employed more in game architecture? I come from industrial programming where big projects with big budgets need to work flawlessly, as it could result to catastrophic scenarios if the code wasn't throroughly tested inside and out. Plus, following Scrum rules encourages meeting the due dates of your work while every single action in Scrum is time-boxed! So, I agree when in the question linked above they say to stop trying to build a system, and start writing the game. It is quite what Scrum says, try not to build the perfect system, first: make it work by the Sprint end. Then, refactor the code while working in the second Sprint if needed! I understand that if not all departments responsible for the game development use Scrum, Scrum becomes useless. But let's consider for a moment that all the departments do use Scrum... I think that TDD would be good to write bug-free code, though you do not want to write the "perfect" system/game. So my question is the following: Is TDD viable in game development anyhow?

• Why i can not load a simple pixel shader effect (. fx) file in xna?

  I just want to load a simple *.fx file into my project to make a (pixel shader) effect. But whenever I try to compile my project, I get the following error in visual studio Error List: Errors compiling .. ID3DXEffectCompiler: There were no techniques ID3DXEffectCompiler: Compilation failed I already searched on google and found many people with the same problem. And I realized that it was a problem of encoding. With the return lines unrecognized '\ n' . I tried to copy and paste to notepad and save as with ASCII or UTF8 encoding. But the result is always the same. Do you have an idea please ?   Hello, I went through the archives here and the Wikipedia page on Project management software, but didn't find information on this type of application to manage projects: Native Windows application (don't like web-based solutions; prefer native to cross-platform) Free or affordable, ie. not an Enterprise solution Scalable from one to a few concurrent users Like MS Projet et al., a project consists in tasks which can be further divided into sub-tasks, and the whole thing is displayed in an tree list An item that has a date set (either start/due) must be displayed in a Calendar view, so it's easy to know what work must be done each day The Calendar view must somehow sync with smartphones (at least BlackBerry) At this point, the apps I know either don't provide a Calendar at all, or do but they can't sync with smartphones, which forces me to copy/paste scheduled items into Outlook so they are synced with my BlackBerry :-/ Thank you for any help.

  I have a very serious problem here in one of my client server. The remote server is installed with REDHAT ES 5.2 and we have a postgresql as database. I was trying to clone the database. The hard drive had 32 GB of free space before taking clone. I started cloning the database and during the process, there was some internet issue and due to this, putty got disconnected before taking clone. So I opened another fresh session and I was able to see only 2.5GB as available space. Also I was not able to see the clone in the psql terminal. Any solution to get the 29GB that was consumed????

• Proper way to remove an active / inactive LVM snapshot

  I have created a sample ruby script file for removing extra LVM snapshots from the system. For removing LVM snapshot, we are using lvremove command. This command is working fine and we can remove snapshots from the system. # sudo lvremove /dev/ops/dbbackup lvremove -- do you really want to remove "/dev/ops/dbbackup"? [y/n]: y Sometimes while removing snapshots we are getting following errors. Unable to deactivate open rootfs_12.10_20140812_00-cow (252:8) Failed to resume rootfs_12.10_20140812_00. libdevmapper exiting with 7 device(s) still suspended. The system gets frozen. We cannot fire any command or can not perform any action on it. After restarting the system, it is functioning fine. We can perform all the operations even we can delete that snapshot also. I searched about it I found these threads https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=659762 and https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=674682 Solution from this thread is after getting the error but I have to avoid this type of error. I have a question, Is there any better way removing LVM snapshots? So that we can avoid this type of error. If anyone needs more info feel free to ask me.

  I've been backing up my Vista box using Complete PC backup for quite a while now, and I was just wondering how it is that you remove old backups when your backup drive is to full for another backup. I recently received the following error: The backup did not complete successfully. An error occurred. The following information might help you resolve the error: There is not enough space to save the backup files. Free up disk space or change your backup settings. (0x81000005) I don't see anything in the settings for the backup to change this. Do I have to mount the backup to delete an old backup? If so where is that file located? • How to convert an image to a .dwg file

  My girlfriend is making an art project where she is having an image printed and cut out on a metal plate. The firm responsible for doing this is demanding a .dwg file (and something called polyline; some sort of setting maybe?). Neither of us have heard about this file format, and I find the information about it quite confusing. Most pages seem to link to some schetchy "FooToBarConverter" software, that I frankly don't trust. Could someone please enlighten us on what we need to do, or point to some safe and preferably free software that could do this? (An explanation of the dwg format and the polyline thing would also be much appreciated)

• How to configure SoapUI with client certificate authentication

  SoapUI is one of the best free tools around to test web services. Some time ago I was trying to send a soap message towards a SSL web service that was set up for client certificate authentication. I pretty soon got stuck at the “javax.net.ssl.SSLException: HelloRequest followed by an unexpected handshake message” error, but after reading several posts on the internet I solved that issue. It’s not really that complicated after all, but since I could not find a decent place on the internet that explains this scenario in a proper way, here’s a list of steps that you need to do to make it work. Note: this following steps are based on a Windows environment   Step one: Export your certificate (the one that you want to use as the client certificate) using the export wizard with the private key and with all certificates in the certification path: Give it a password (anything you want): And export it as a PFX file to a location somewhere on disk: Step two: Install the newest version of SOAP UI (currently it is 3.6.1) Open the file C:\Program Files\eviware\soapUI-3.6.1\bin\ soapUI-3.6.1.vmoptions and add this line at the bottom: -Dsun.security.ssl.allowUnsafeRenegotiation=true This is needed because of a JAVA security feature in their newest frameworks (For further reading about this issue, read this: http://www.soapui.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4089 and this: http://java.sun.com/javase/javaseforbusiness/docs/TLSReadme.html).   Open SOAPUI and go to preferences>SSL Settings and configure your certificate in the keystore (use the same password as in step one): That should be it. Just create a new project and import the WSDL from the client authenticated SSL webservice: And now you should be able to send soap messages with client certificate authentication. The above steps worked for me, but please drop a note if it does not work for you.

  i've registered a domain, and went to create a google apps account with that. but google told me they don't accept .ir domains, possibly trying to prevent us from building bombs (which completely makes sense), or simply lack of interest. anyway. so now i'm seeking for a way to use gmail, but with my own domain name, all without using google apps. i've added my domain to a free dnspark.net account, and it doesn't have mail forwarding, but i can set MX records. is there anyway i could accomplish my task? or is it completely impossible?

• Macedonian Code Camp 2011

  Autumn was filled with lot of conferences, events, speaking engagements and many interesting happenings in Skopje, Macedonia. First at October 20, I was speaking at Microsoft Vizija 9 on topic ASP.NET MVC3 and Razor. One week ago, November 15 I was speaking for first time on topic not related to web development (but still deployment of web apps was part of the demos) on topic “Cloud Computing – Windows Azure” at Microsoft BizSpark Bootcamp. The next event, which is the biggest event by the number of visitors and number of tracks is the Code Camp 2011 event. After we opened the registrations for the event, we sold out (free) 600 tickets in the first 15 hours! We all got astonished by the extremely big number of responses we’ve got… In this event, I can freely say that we expect about 700 attendees to come, and we already have 900+ registered. The event will be held at Saturday, 26 November 2011. At Code Camp 2011, I will speak on topic ASP.NET MVC Best Practices. There are many interesting things to say on this presentation, I will mainly focus on Tips, Tricks, Guidelines and other Practices that I have been using in real-life projects developed by using ASP.NET MVC Framework, with special focus on ASP.NET MVC3 and the next release, ASP.NET MVC4 Developer Preview. • Ideas for campus Internet Login mechanism?

  Hello, I work at this university and I'm seeking an effective solution for an internet login mechanism. We have a leased-link at our campus, which is shared by both staff & students. All systems (desktops + laptops + handhelds) connect to the internal network via wifi and can then get onto the net. However, a local govt. regulation requires us to keep track of individual internet usage and hence we need a solution (pref. free / opensource) that'll enable us to implement some sort of an authentication mechanism once a user hooks onto the network. One requirement is that the software should be able to authenticate either against LDAP or some other custom user database (MySQL based) or both. Can anyone suggest any such software or mechanism? Most of our servers are Linux based... so something that runs off such a platform will be good. Thanks, m^e

• Understanding UML composition better

  The technical difference between Composition and Aggregation in UML (and sometimes in programming too) is that with Composition, the lifetime of the objects composing the composite (e.g. an engine and a steering wheel in a car) is dependent on the composite object. While with Aggregation, the lifetime of the objects making up the composite is independent of the composite. However I'm not sure about something related to composition in UML. Say ClassA is composed of an object of ClassB: class ClassA{ ClassB bInstance; public ClassA(){ bInstance = new ClassB(); } } This is an example of composition, because bInstance is dependent on the lifetime of it's enclosing object. However, regarding UML notation - I'm not sure if I would notate the relationship between ClassA and ClassB with a filled diamond (composition) or a white diamond (aggregation). This is because while the lifetime of some ClassB instances is dependent of ClassA instances - there could be ClassB instances anywhere else in the program - not only within ClassA instances. The question is: if ClassA objects are composed of ClassB objects - but other ClassB objects are free to be used anywhere else in the program: Should the relationship between ClassA and ClassB be notated as aggregation or as composition?

• YouTube videos not working

  I have a problem with watching YouTube videos. It says: "An error occurred, please try again later". I've tried loading different videos and that's what it says to all the videos I try to watch. I've tried using another browser, clearing cache + cookies etc, but none of that really worked out. My operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium, I use Google Chrome as my browser. And the YouTube videos was able to be watched earlier. I suspect that it has something to do with the PC, since I've got YouTube working on my laptop earlier. Not sure if it still works on my laptop though. Hope I've given enough information for you to help me out with this problem. Feel free to ask if there's anything else you need to know. Hope you can/will help me out. :)

• Other games that employ mechanics like the game "Diplomacy"

  I'm doing a little bit of research and I'm hoping you can help me track down any games, other than Diplomacy (online version here), that employ all or some of the mechanics in Diplomacy (rules, short form). Examples I'm looking for: Simultaneous orders given prior to execution of orders In Diplomacy, players "write down" their moves and execute them "at the same time" Support, in terms of supporting an attacker or defender "take" a territory. In Diplomacy, no one unit is stronger than another you need to combine the strength of multiple units to attack other territories. Rules for how move conflicts are resolved Example, 2 units move into a space, but only one is allowed, what happens. I may add to this list later, but these are the primary things I'm looking for. If you need clarification on anything just let me know. Note: I tried asking this on GamingSE, but it was shot down. So, I am unsure where else I could post this. Since I am researching this for game development purposes, I assume this post is on topic. Please let me know if this is not the case. Please also feel free to re-categorize this. Thanks!

• Replicate Oracle to MySQL

  I am developing a web apps, this web application will be using MySQL. Now I need to replicate my client's Oracle database into MySQL, only a few tables will be involved.. a table can be up to 2-3 million rows. I only have SELECT privilege on this Oracle, so don't ask me to install any kind of service on the Oracle machine. I have complete control on the MySQL side however. The replication is only one way (Oracle to MySQL). I can write a simple script to truncate MySQL table and repopulate it every night but I think this is very inefficient, there must be a better way. Is there any free tools I can use? Expensive database replication system is definitely out of the question.

• Strange Windows DIR command behavior

  I discovered this quite by accident while looking for a file with a number in the name. When I type: dir *number* (where number represents any number from 0 to 9 and with no spaces between the asterisks and the number) at the cmd.exe command prompt, it returns various files do not appear in any to fit the search criteria. What's weird, is that depending on the directory, some numbers will work and not others. An example is, in a directory associated with a website, I type the following: dir *4* and what is returned is: Directory of C:\Ampps\www\includes\pages 04/30/2012 03:55 PM 153 inventory_list_retrieve.php 06/18/2012 11:17 AM 6,756 ix.html 06/19/2012 01:47 PM 257,501 jquery.1.7.1.js 3 File(s) 264,410 bytes 0 Dir(s) 362,280,906,752 bytes free That just doesn't make any sense to me. Any clue? The question is posed on stackOverflow because the DIR command is often combined with FOR in batch programs. The strange DIR behavior would seem to make batch programs potentially unreliable if they use the DIR command.
