  Hello, I'm attempting to load data from an undocumented API (OsiriX). Getting the NSManagedObject like this: NSManagedObject *itemStudy = [[BrowserController databaseOutline] itemAtRow: [[BrowserController databaseOutline] selectedRow]]; works just fine. But getting the NSManagedObject like this: seriesArray = [_context executeFetchRequest:request error:&error]; NSManagedObject *itemSeries = [seriesArray objectAtIndex:0]; Generates an error when I call [itemSeries valueForKey:@"type"] 2010-05-27 11:04:48.178 rcOsirix[27712:7b03] Exception: [<NSManagedObject 0xd30fd0> valueForUndefinedKey:]: the entity Series is not key value coding-compliant for the key "type". This confuses me thoroughly. Granted, the objects are different but neither of them contain the key @"type" and they both should throw errors, yet the Osirix code Tests for both conditions: if ([[item valueForKey:@"type"] isEqualToString:@"Series"]) { ... } if ([[item valueForKey:@"type"] isEqualToString:@"Study"]) { ... } And throws no errors. Yet when I load an NSManagedObject of the same exact model and entity @"Series" it throws the 'no key value' when passed into the conditions above. Am I missing something? Both the superentity and subentities of itemSeries and itemStudy are nil so they don't inherit from something that has KVC @"type". I'm totally at a loss as to explain what is going on. --- EDIT --- I know no one can explain what is going on... but maybe where to start looking? How would itemStudy have the extra KVC @"type" that doesn't show up in it's property list? Thank you for your assistance, -Stephen

• Simple XML variable returns "0"

  Ok, so im working with tumblr's API and im using SimpleXMLElement with php and ive run into a problem. Basically, when I call on a variable it just prints a zero. for instance : <?php echo $data->posts->post[0]->photo-url[5]; ?> This just breaks the page, and when I leave out the [5] it just prints zero I want to echo the photo-url with the number [5] but I cant get my head around this and its killing me. I just dont understand why it wont work. • RelativeLayout, ScrollView and navigation bar at bottom

  What I want to do is, make layout like this: Title Date Long text with scrolling Navigation bar stick to the bottom Well I have done everything, however there is a little problem with scrolling. I want only to scroll text. Title and date should be stick to the top, and nav bar to the bottom of activity. And yes, it works, but my nav bar overlaps text :/ I tried everything, there is one solution I found, set fixed height for Scrollview, but this will not work on every devices well, isn't it? I probably could do some calculation in code, and on it change height, but I would like to stay in XML. Any one have any suggestions?   I've got an issue with the BasicAuthProvider in ServiceStack. POST-ing to the CredentialsAuthProvider (/auth/credentials) is working fine. The problem is that when GET-ing (in Chrome): http://foo:pwd@localhost:81/tag/string/list the following is the result Handler for Request not found: Request.HttpMethod: GET Request.HttpMethod: GET Request.PathInfo: /login Request.QueryString: System.Collections.Specialized.NameValueCollection Request.RawUrl: /login?redirect=http%3a%2f%2flocalhost%3a81%2ftag%2fstring%2flist which tells me that it redirected me to /login instead of serving the /tag/... request. • Query doesn't use a covering-index when applicable

  I've downloaded the employees database and executed some queries for benchmarking purposes. Then I noticed that one query didn't use a covering index, although there was a corresponding index that I created earlier. Only when I added a FORCE INDEX clause to the query, it used a covering index. I've uploaded two files, one is the executed SQL queries and the other is the results. Can you tell why the query uses a covering-index only when a FORCE INDEX clause is added? The EXPLAIN shows that in both cases, the index dept_no_from_date_idx is being used anyway. So, I have the object "Movie", there is a MovieManager interface that is used for retrieving/persisting data to the database and a servlet RecentlyAddedMovies.java that forwards to a .jsp to render the list. I will explain my problem by showing an example of how I am doing another similar task: Showing top ranked movies. The Movie object has a collection of Comment associated but of course, it lacks an instance variable with the length of that collection. The following things came into my mind: a) Create a MovieView object or something like that, that is only used by the "View" and "Controller" layer of the MVC which is not part of the "Model" in the sense that is used only for easy retrieval and display of information. (This sounds horrible to me) c) Add to the "Movie" object an instance field noOfComments with the setter and getter that will help with this type of cases even if, looking only from the object point of view, it is a redundant field since it already has a Collection that is ".size()"able . d) Make the MovieManager retrieve some structure like a Map or a Collection of a two component array or something like that that will contain both a Movie object and the associated number of comments and with JSLT iterate over it and show it accordingly.

• using PixelBender to double the size of a bitmap

  I have a performance question about pixel bender. I want to enlarge many BitmapData (double their size into new BitmapData). I was doing this with as3, but wanted to use pixel bender to get better performance. On my machines, I get great comparative performance out of many pixel bender demonstrations. To my surprise (or bad coding / understanding), I am getting much worse performance out of pixel bender -- 2 seconds to do 3000 scalings vs .5 seconds! I expected to get at least the same performance as as3. What am I doing wrong? • Does anyone know how to appropriately deal with user timezones in rails 2.3?

  We're building a rails app that needs to display dates (and more importantly, calculate them) in multiple timezones. Can anyone point me towards how to work with user timezones in rails 2.3(.5 or .8) The most inclusive article I've seen detailing how user time zones are supposed to work is here: http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/howtos/time-zones... although it is unclear when this was written or for what version of rails. Specifically it states that: "Time.zone - The time zone that is actually used for display purposes. This may be set manually to override config.time_zone on a per-request basis." Keys terms being "display purposes" and "per-request basis". Locally on my machine, this is true. However on production, neither are true. Setting Time.zone persists past the end of the request (to all subsequent requests) and also affects the way AR saves to the DB (basically treating any date as if it were already in UTC even when its not), thus saving completely inappropriate values. We run Ruby Enterprise Edition on production with passenger. If this is my problem, do we need to switch to JRuby or something else?   Hello, I am trying to get the base64 content of a MimePart in a MimeMultiPart, but I'm struggling with the Javamail package. I simply want the base64 encoded String of a certain inline image, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to do this though. Each group has 20-200 distinct product numbers (pnumber), so there are at least a few thousand CatalogItems. I am working on formsets for the Transaction model. Instead of a single select menu with the several thousand CatalogItems for the ForeignKey field, I want to substitute three drop-down menus, for group, run, and pnumber, which uniquely identify the CatalogItem. I'd also like to limit the choices in the second two drop-downs to those runs and pnumbers which are available for the currently selected product group (I can update them via AJAX if the user changes the product group, but it's important that the initial page load as described without relying on AJAX). What's the best way to do this? As a point of departure, here's what I've tried/considered so far: My first approach was to exclude the item foreign key field from the form, add the substitute dropdowns by overriding the add_fields method of the formset, and then extract the data and populate the fields manually on the model instances before saving them. It's straightforward and pretty simple, but it's not very reusable and I don't think it is the right way to do this. My second approach was to create a new field which inherits both MultiValueField and ModelChoiceField, and a corresponding MultiWidget subclass. This seems like the right approach. As Malcolm Tredinnick put it in a django-users discussion, "the 'smarts' of a field lie in the Field class." The problem I'm having is when/where to fetch the lists of choices from the db. The code I have now does it in the Field's __init__, but that means I have to know which ProductGroup I'm dealing with before I can even define the Form class, since I have to instantiate the Field when I define the form. So I have a factory function which I call at the last minute from my view--after I know what CatalogItems I have and which product group they're in--to create form/formset classes and instantiate them. It works, but I wonder if there's a better way. After all, the field should be able to determine the correct choices much later on, once it knows its current value. Another problem is that my implementation limits the entire formset to transactions relating to (CatalogItems from) a single ProductGroup. A third possibility I'm entertaining is to put it all in the Widget class. Once I have the related model instance, or the cid, or whatever the widget is given, I can get the ProductGroup and construct the drop-downs. This would solve the issues with my second approach, but doesn't seem like the right approach.

  I am trying to create a UserControl that is a composite control for entering Dates. It involves 2 drop down controls (one for month and one for day) and a text box for year. It also has a CustomValidation control that I would like the user of the UserControl to be able to set the ClientValidationFunction property and have it triggered whenever the value in any of the 3 date part controls changes. To hook up each of the 3 controls to the validation control, I use teh AJAX ValidatorHookupControlID method. • EF Code first + Delete Child Object from Parent?

I'm using EF Code First and now wants to delete a CaseReply from a Case object, however it seems impossible to do such thing because it just tries to remove the CaseId from the specific CaseReply record and not the record itself.. short: Case just removes the relationship between itself and the CaseReply.. it does not delete the CaseReply. • jquery with ASP.NET MVC - calling ajax enabled web service

  This is a bit of a continuation of a previous question. Now I'm trying to make a call to an AJAX enabled web service which I have defined within the ASP.NET MVC application (i.e. the MovieService.svc). But the service is never being called in my getMovies javascript function. This same technique of calling the AJAX web service works ok if I try it in a non ASP.NET MVC application, so it makes me wonder if maybe the ASP MVC routes are interfering with things somehow when it tries to make the AJAX web service call. Do you have any idea why my web service isn't getting called?   I have a MySQL database of newspaper articles. There's a volume table, an issue table, and an article table. I have a PHP file that generates a property list that is then pulled in and read by an iPhone app. The plist holds each article as a dictionary inside each issue, and each issue as a dictionary inside each volume. The plist doesn't actually hold the whole article -- just a title and URL. Some article titles contain special characters, like curly apostrophes. Looking at the generated XML plist, whenever it hits a special character, it unpredictably gobbles up a whole bunch of text, leaving the XML mangled and unreadable. (...in Chrome, anyway, and I'm guessing on the iPhone. Firefox actually handles it pretty well, showing a white ? in a black diamond in place of any special characters and not gobbling anything.) • SQL Server 2008: Using Multiple dts Ranges to Build a Set of Dates

  I'm trying to build a query for a medical database that counts the number of patients that were on at least one medication from a class of medications (the medications listed below in the FAST_MEDS CTE) and had either: 1) A diagnosis of myopathy (the list of diagnoses in the FAST_DX CTE) 2) A CPK lab value above 1000 (the lab value in the FAST_LABS CTE) and this diagnosis or lab happened AFTER a patient was on a statin. The query I've included below does that under the assumption that once a patient is on a statin, they're on a statin forever. The first CTE collects the ids of patients that were on a statin along with the first date of their diagnosis, the second those with a diagnosis, and the third those with a high lab value. After this I count those that match the above criteria. What I would like to do is drop the assumption that once a patient is on a statin, they're on it for life. The table edw_dm.patient_medications has a column called start_dts and end_dts. This table has one row for each prescription written, with start_dts and end_dts denoting the start and end date of the prescription. End_dts could be null, which I'll take to assume that the patient is currently on this medication (it could be a missing record, but I can't do anything about this). If a patient is on two different statins, the start and ends dates can overlap, and there may be multiple records of the same medication for a patient, as in a record showing 3-11-2000 to 4-5-2003 and another for the same patient showing 5-6-2007 to 7-8-2009. I would like to use these two columns to build a query where I'm only counting the patients that had a lab value or diagnosis done during a time when they were already on a statin, or in the first n (say 3) months after they stopped taking a statin. I'm really not sure how to go about rewriting the first CTE to get this information and how to do the comparison after the CTEs are built. I know this is a vague question, but I'm really stumped. • Unable to browse some pdfs and docs.

  I have a web site that uses Microsoft Indexing Service to index and query a directory that holds various documents of type pdf, rtf, mht, and doc. The indexing and querying works well (for the most part); however, some files will load while others will not. This is a Windows Server 2003 box running the site using IIS 6. The indexed directory is a sub directory off of the site's root directory (i.e. http://my.domain.com/files/). The file paths are accurate in the URL; however, I can only access some of the files of each file type. The files that I cannot access give a 404 File Not Found. I am able to open all files via windows explorer;however, attempting to open them via a browser over http is hit and miss. Has anyone experienced this issue and know how to resolve it? Anyone have any idea why I could access some files but not others? Does anyone have any recommendations on what to look into to try this (i.e. does owner matter or something like that?)?
