  • CakePHP adding columns to a table

    I have a Profile model/controller in my cake app as well as an index.ctp view in /views/profiles. Now, when I go to add a column to my table that is already filled with data, and then add the corresponding code to the view to pick up this column's data, it just gives me an empty result. Any suggestions?

    I had Ubuntu 11.10 and in the last few weeks I experienced an obscure problem: after I had the computer running for a few days I could no longer connect to google.com or anything related to google. All sites worked with all browsers (Firefox, chrome, opera) except google. It remained in the connecting phase for a few minutes and either timed out or finally connected with this huge delay. Even if I entered other sites such as this one, if it had anything to do with google such adsense or gstatic or whatever with g in it, that site took a long time to load waiting in connecting to gstatic.com . Anything google related took minutes to work, but everything else worked instantly! I tried rebooting or using other machine(with windows on it) and this worked, so it's not network related. But after a few days it started not working again... So I upgraded to the Precise Pangolin hoping this behavior would go away. It didn't! After a few days I get the same behavior as in 11.10. What am I supposed to do? Reboot every other day? I didn't have this problem with neither 10.10 or 11.04. I found the Realtek RTL8168/8111E issue with the r8169 driver but this is not exactly the same card so probably trying r8168 won't help. Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.   • Windows Phone–A beautiful phone which I admire but I don’t recommend to friends and family

    Microsoft’s Windows Phones are the most beautiful phones I’ve seen. Look at the photo which Microsoft shared on their Facebook page today. It’s gorgeous. Windows Phones come in vibrant colors and the user interface is very lively. When you keep an iPhone, Android Phone & a Windows Phone on a table, Windows Phone definitely stands out. Android and iOS interfaces are routine – a bunch of apps icons arranged in rows and multiple screens. Windows Phone is very different, the live tiles concept mesmerizes us. I love Windows Phone, but neither I buy one nor I recommend to family/friends! Why? Because it does not have all the Apps I need. Microsoft advertises that Windows Phone has 100K apps on its Windows Market Place. It’s true, there are 100K+ apps available for Windows Phone but not many of them are really useful and most of the popular Apps I use on Android are not available. When I say this to my friends at Microsoft, they don’t agree and one of them asked me list the apps that are not available. For him today I spent an hour quickly scanning through the apps installed on my Google Nexus and searched for same apps on Windows Market Place. As expected many of them are not available. Here is the list of my favorite Android apps that are not available for Windows Phone Mint – I use this app more than any of the Banking Apps I’ve installed on my mobile. It’s one app to keep a tab on all the expenses and income, the best money management and tracking app. Google Chrome – Web without Google Chrome is too boring, either on Desktop or on mobile. IE is too heavy and Firefox is loosing its grip. Chrome is the new darling of web. Pulse, Flipboard – Flipboard and Pulse are one of the best apps for reading news and following content of favorite blogs. Dropbox – Sync content across devices and provides access to your content on any device.It really does not matter what is your gadget – mobile, tablet or computer; Dropbox lets you access your content. GMail, Google Maps – Should I say how important are these two apps in our day to day life!! Vonage Extension – For around 30 bucks a month, Vonage provide landline service in USA + unlimited calls to India and many other countries + Vonage Extension App that lets Android/iOS mobile to make unlimited international calls for free. Without Vonage Extension app, I’m almost cutoff from my family and friends back home in India. Instagram – The most popular camera app used from a common man to celebrities. Raaga, Dhingana  – Music is part and parcel of life and these two apps are the most like popular apps to listen to Indian music. Quora – Quora is the place where most of the sensible discussions happen on web. Google Analytics, Google Adsense – I’m a blogger and these two apps mean a lot to me The list goes on and on! There are many useful apps that are not available on Windows Phone – TuneIn, MyTWC, Chrome To Phone, Google Voice, etc. Without all these apps, Windows Phone is just another old Nokia phone. Even though Windows Phone is the most beautiful phone, it needs Apps to attract customers. Without apps a smartphone is more or less a dumb feature phone which we loved to use before release of iPhone. Wish in an year or two the beautiful Windows Phone may have all the missing Apps. When it happens I’ll buy a phone for myself and recommend it to my family & friends. But till then I prefer to stay away.

    I have a machine running Ubuntu 11.10 Server acting as a Samba server to share my home directory. Everything works fine on my Windows 7 machine, but on my Fedora 16 laptop, if I use Nautilus to try to access the share using smb://192.168.0.8/nathan in the location bar, it just has the loading cursor and does nothing. It never shows any errors, nothing. Using smbclient works just fine, but I'd like to get it working in Nautilus. I know that there can be problems with SELinux and Samba, so I created a file called booleans.local that contains samba_enable_home_dirs=1.     We made on our webpage https://www.1point618.com a transition to ssl and now we using nearly entirely ajax to load the content. Therefore all urls of existing pages have changed. We used the 301 redirect as recommended, also we have implemented google's specification that the webpage is still crawl-able. We thought that maybe it would last a month that we have the same ranking in google's search results, but still google's search results are much worse than before these changes. Most of the content (artist profiles) isn't indexed anymore. For example of the submitted sitemap only 3 of around 450 urls are indexed. Before almost all urls were indexed. My question is now: Does google's ajax crawling work together with ssl? (It looks like it would work, cause of the access log file.)

When I send mail (from OWA, OR Outlook) there is a delay of up to 3 minutes from when i send the message, to when it's received (in my gmail account for example) I've listed the headers below.   • Feed Reader's - Looking for some suggestions

    I am doing my best to make it a point to keep an eye on some blogs of people in my industry, and am looking for a good feed reader. I use chrome. I live in chrome, and if I am not in Chrome, I am using xterm. Yet, I do get my tweets in Pidgin and do all my talking discussion from that. Maybe it makes sense to integrate something in that? I see web feed readers as a bit too distant to make good use of it (eg, have to open a page, and less 'in your face'). Although, I am a big fan of google stuff and use google apps and google voice and google cals and google docs, etc.. So how is feedburner? I like to preserver time.
