• EBS 11i and 12.1 Support Timeline Changes

  Two important changes to the Oracle Lifetime Support policies for Oracle E-Business Suite were announced at OpenWorld last week.  These changes affect EBS Releases 11i and 12.1. The changes are detailed in this My Oracle Support document: E-Business Suite 11.5.10 Sustaining Support Exception & 12.1 Extended Support Now to Dec. 2018 (Note 1495337.1) 1. Changes for EBS 11i Sustaining Support The first change is that  we will be providing an exception for the first 13 months of Sustaining Support on Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11.5.10 (11i10), valid from December 1, 2013 – December 31, 2014. This exception support will be comprised of three components: New fixes for Severity 1 production issues United States Form 1099 2013 year-end updates Payroll regulatory updates for the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia for fiscal years ending in 2014 Customers environments must have the minimum baseline patches (or above) for new Severity 1 production bug fixes as documented here: Patch Requirements for Extended Support of Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11.5.10 (Note 883202.1) 2. Changes for EBS 12.1 Extended Support More time:  Extended Support period for E-Business Suite Release 12.1 has been extended by nineteen months through December, 2018. Customers with an active Oracle Premier Support for Software contract will automatically be entitled to Extended Support for E-Business Suite 12.1. Fees waived:  Uplift fees are waived for all years of Extended Support (June, 2014 – December. 2018) for customers with an active Oracle Premier Support for Software contract. During this period, customers will receive all of the components of Extended Support at no additional cost other than their fees for Software Update License & Support. Where can I learn more? • NVidia with Optimus conflicting in Ubuntu 12.04

  i have recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 in a Intel Ivy Bridge with integrated graphics and NVidia GPU with Optimus tech, however i cant manage it to work properly. I have already passed by the solution of bumblebee project, however iam got the following message when try to run anything with nvidia card( e.g. with optirun firefox): [ERROR]The Bumblebee daemon has not been started yet or the socket path /var/run/bumblebee.socket was incorrect. [ERROR]Could not connect to bumblebee daemon - is it running?   ... and what is sudo and where/how would I type the scripts I've seen in some related answers? Yes I am very new to Linux, and am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. All updates are failing with installArchives() failed: dpkg: error: parsing file '/var/lib/dpkg/available' near line 2 package 'libgwibber-gtk2': value for `status' field not allowed in this context Error in function: I need to know where and how I would input some of the sudo scripts etc. Any help appreciated, trying to get off of windows.... • Installing Windows Mobile SDK without Visual Studio

  Is it possible to install the Windows Mobile SDK without having Visual Studio? I am using SharpDevelop to write a Windows Mobile application, but I need to use an assembly in the Windows Mobile 6.0 SDK. When I try to install the SDK I get a message that says Visual Studio is a prerequisite, and I am un able to install it. Is there a way to trick it in to thinking Visual Studio is installed; maybe a registry entry that can be added or something, or am I just hosed? Is there a reason I need to pay for Microsoft's IDE, or is this just a way for Microsoft to make some extra money? Thanks,

  i have gotten the error in the microsoft KB article 975778 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/975778/en-us) i was able to get onto my computer luckily, but when i went on to get the hotfix that is stated in the article, it gave me this error when i ran it: "the update is not applicable to your computer." is there any way of getting the disk check error to stop, or to get this fix to work. i will answer any questions on hardware if you post the questions in the comments. answers to questions this is the a full version that i got from ASUS as an upgrade disk from windows vista (hopefully more specific than you were asking)

• Custom Session Management using HashTable

  ASP.NET session state lets you associate a server-side string or object dictionary containing state data with a particular HTTP client session. A session is defined as a series of requests issued by the same client within a certain period of time, and is managed by associating a session ID with each unique client. The ID is supplied by the client on each request, either in a cookie or as a special fragment of the request URL. The session data is stored on the server side in one of the supported session state stores, which include in-process memory, SQL Server™ database, and the ASP.NET State Server service. The latter two modes enable session state to be shared among multiple Web servers on a Web farm and do not require server affinity. • New channels for Exadata 11.2.3.1.1

  With the release of Exadata 11.2.3.1.0 back in April 2012 Oracle has deprecated the minimal pack for the Exadata Database Servers (compute nodes). From that release the Linux Database Server updates will be done using ULN and YUM. For the 11.2.3.1.0 release the ULN exadata_dbserver_11.2.3.1.0_x86_64_base channel was made available and Exadata operators could subscribe their system to it via linux.oracle.com. With the new 11.2.3.1.1 release two additional channels are added: a 'latest' channel (exadata_dbserver_11.2_x86_64_latest) a 'patch' channel (exadata_dbserver_11.2_x86_64_patch) The patch channel has the new or updated packages updated in 11.2.3.1.1 from the base channel. The latest channel has all the packages from 11.2.3.1.0 base and patch channels combined.  From here there are three possible situations a Database Server can be in before it can be updated to 11.2.3.1.1: Database Server is on Exadata release < 11.2.3.1.0 Database Server is patched to 11.2.3.1.0 Database Server is freshly imaged to 11.2.3.1.0 In order to bring a Database Server to 11.2.3.1.1 for all three cases the same approach for updating can be used (using YUM), but there are some minor differences: For Database Servers on a release < 11.2.3.1.0 the following high-level steps need to be performed: Subscribe to el5_x86_64_addons, ol5_x86_64_latest and  exadata_dbserver_11.2_x86_64_latest Create local repository Point Database Server to the local repository* install the update * during this process a one-time action needs to be done (details in the README) For Database Servers patched to 11.2.3.1.0: Subscribe to patch channel  exadata_dbserver_11.2_x86_64_patch Create local repository Point Database Server to the local repository Update the system For Database Servers freshly imaged to 11.2.3.1.0: Subscribe to patch channel  exadata_dbserver_11.2_x86_64_patch Create local  repository Point Database Server to the local repository Update the system The difference between 'situation 2' (Database Server is patched to 11.2.3.1.0) and 'situation 3' (Database Server is freshly imaged to 11.2.3.1.0) is that in situation 2 the existing Exadata-computenode.repo file needs to be edited while in situation 3 this file is not existing  and needs to be created or copied. Another difference is that you will end up with more OFA packages installed in situation 2. This is because none are removed during the updating process.  The YUM update functionality with the new channels is a great enhancements to the Database Server update procedure. • .NET development on Macs

  I posted the “exciting” conclusion of my laptop trade-ins and issues on my personal blog. The links, in chronological order, are posted below. While those posts have all of the details about performance and software used, I wanted to comment on why I like using Macs in the first place. It started in 2006 when Apple released the first Intel-based Mac. As someone with a professional video past, I had been using Macs on and off since college (1995 graduate), so I was never terribly religious about any particular platform. I’m still not, but until recently, it was staggering how crappy PC’s were. They were all plastic, disposable, commodity crap. I could never justify buying a PowerBook because I was a Microsoft stack guy. When Apple went Intel, they removed that barrier. They also didn’t screw around with selling to the low end (though the plastic MacBooks bordered on that), so even the base machines were pretty well equipped. Every Mac I’ve had, I’ve used for three years. Other than that first one, I’ve also sold each one, for quite a bit of money. Things have changed quite a bit, mostly within the last year. I’m actually relieved, because Apple needs competition at the high end. Other manufacturers are finally understanding the importance of industrial design. For me, I’ll stick with Macs for now, because I’m invested in OS X apps like Aperture and the Mac versions of Adobe products. As a Microsoft developer, it doesn’t even matter though… with Parallels, I Cmd-Tab and I’m in Windows. So after three and a half years with a wonderful 17” MBP and upgraded SSD, it was time to get something lighter and smaller (traveling light is critical with a toddler), and I eventually ended up with a 13” MacBook Air, with the i7 and 8 gig upgrades, and I love it. At home I “dock” it to a Thunderbolt Display. • Allow email from a particular sender through spam filter

  We are running exchange 2010 and are using the built in anti-spam feature. We have set up Content Filtering, IP Block List Providers, Sender ID, Sender Reputation and it filters out most of the junk but it also quarantines all emails from one of our customers. It is being quarantined because of the Content Filter agent (Report Below). How can I add an exception for this email address to the Content Filter. I can see how to setup an exception for a delivery address ("Don't filter messages sent TO the following recipients") but I want to add [email protected] to our safe list. I don't want to add the whole domain as it is a very popular ISP in Australia and we often get junk from them. I have windows XP, and i am going to have to have a VM running: Windows 7 Visual Studio 2008 Sql Server 2008 IIS 7 (8 in a little while) Wamp Photoshop CS5 etc... so i was wondering what should i use to be easier to install and configure, and best performance: Virtual Box or Microsoft's Virtual Machine?   Will this increase my Virtual private Server failing rate if i :- install Microsoft Window Server 2008 Enterprise install SQL server enterprise 2008 install IIS 7.5 install ASP.Net Mvc 2 install Microsoft Exchange install Team foundation server on one mini VPS with specification of DELL Poweredge R710 shared plan DDR3 ECC RAMs 16GB and -- 1GB for this VPS using DELL PERC 6i raid controller (this thing alone about 1.5k-2k) and the SAS HDD (15K RPM) (146GB) -- 33GB to this VPS each hdd is freaking fast over 300MB read / write possible with proper tuning the motherboard is a DELL and it has twin redundant PSU (870watt 85%eff) its running on Intel Xeon 5502 (Quad Core) x2 so about 8 physical proc (fairly share) is there any ruler for this about one VPS can only install what what what service ? • Exporting PowerPoint Slides with Specific Heights and Widths

  I found myself in need of exporting PowerPoint slides from a presentation and was fairly excited when I found that you could save them off in standard image formats. The problem is that Microsoft conveniently exports all images with a resolution of 960 x 720 pixels, which is not the resolution I wanted.  You can, however, specify the resolution if you are willing to put a macro into your project: Sub ExportSlides()   For i = 1 To ActiveWindow.Selection.SlideRange.Count     Dim fileName As String     If (i < 10) Then       fileName = "C:\PowerPoint Export\Slide" & i & ".png"     Else       fileName = "C:\PowerPoint Export\Slide0" & i & ".png"     End If     ActiveWindow.Selection.SlideRange(i).Export fileName, "PNG", 1280, 720   Next End Sub When you call the Export method you can specify the file type as well as the dimensions to use when creating the image.  If the macro approach is not your thing, then you can also modify the default settings through the registry: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827745
