  • Best way to globally set every control's ValidationGroup property in an asp.net?

    I have a User Control with form items that is re-used considerably throughout a large web application, and up until this point the validation summary upon an invalid form submission is being handled by the .aspx that consumes the User Control. Now I need to set the ValidationGroup property at runtime for each of my form items controls (textboxes, lists, validators, etc). Rather than do it manually by setting each control I'm interested in iterating through all the controls in the User Control, detecting if that control has a ValidationGroup property, and setting it's value that way. Something like this: For Each ctrl As System.Web.UI.Control In Me.Controls ' so now what is the proper way to detect if this control has the ValidationGroup property Next Code sample in vb.net or c# works for me.     Given a basic repository interface: public interface IPersonRepository { void AddPerson(Person person); List<Person> GetAllPeople(); } With a basic implementation: public class PersonRepository: IPersonRepository { public void AddPerson(Person person) { ObjectContext.AddObject(person); } public List<Person> GetAllPeople() { return ObjectSet.AsQueryable().ToList(); } } How can you unit test this in a meaningful way? Since it crosses the boundary and physically updates and reads from the database, thats not a unit test, its an integration test. Or is it wrong to want to unit test this in the first place? Should I only have integration tests on the repository? I've been googling the subject and blogs often say to make a stub that implements the IRepository: public class PersonRepositoryTestStub: IPersonRepository { private List<Person> people = new List<Person>(); public void AddPerson(Person person) { people.Add(person); } public List<Person> GetAllPeople() { return people; } } But that doesnt unit test PersonRepository, it tests the implementation of PersonRepositoryTestStub (not very helpful).

    I have this unit test: [TestMethod] public void Delete_Post_Passes_With_State_4() { //Arrange ViewResult result = stateController.Delete( 4 ) as ViewResult; var model = (State)result.ViewData.Model; //Act RedirectToRouteResult redirectResult = stateController.Delete( model ) as RedirectToRouteResult; var newresult = stateController.Delete( 4 ) as ViewResult; var newmodel = (State)newresult.ViewData.Model; //Assert Assert.AreEqual( redirectResult.RouteValues["action"], "Index" ); Assert.IsNull( newmodel ); } Here are the two controller actions that handle deleting: // // GET: /State/Delete/5 public ActionResult Delete(int id) { var x = _stateService.GetById( id ); return View(x); } // // POST: /State/Delete/5 [HttpPost] public ActionResult Delete(State model) { try { if( model == null ) { return View( model ); } _stateService.Delete( model ); return RedirectToAction("Index"); } catch { return View( model ); } } What I can't figure out is why this test fails. I have verified that the record actually gets deleted from the list. If I set a break point in the Delete method on the line: var x = _stateService.GetById( id ); The GetById does indeed return a null just as it should, but when it gets back to the newresult variable in the test, the ViewData.Model is the deleted model. What am I doing wrong?

  • I need to know how to create a custom webform template in ASP.NET that allows me to pick a master pa

    Using Visual Studio 2008, I need to create a custom web form that when picked acts like the web content form, by providing a dialog that lets you pick a master page. I have looked through the webform.zip template and thought I had a clue, but trying different combinations has baffled me as it either doesn't appear or doesn't work. Also when you set the project type to Web and sub project type to CSharp it doesn't appear, so I don't know if this part of the cause, because I would of hoped that the SupportsMasterPage element would of caused this dialog to appear, if it is a web item, but no luck. Frown Any ideas? p.s. I have used my googling resources to the maximum so unsure what to do.

  • Saving a list of items in Application State ASP.NET MVC ?

    Hi Guys, I'm having a bit of trouble with knowing how I can save items from a list I have in Application state in the global.asax as- Application[""]. My controller basically takes in some user input, I then pass this to another classes Method as parameters it gets added to a list all the time. This data thats getting added to the list I want to store it, but without using a db. By using Application State. . I have been instantiating this class and calling its method to return the list of items but I dont think Application State is saving it. Here is what I have so far. . protected void Application_Start() { RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes); TimeLineInformation t = new TimeLineInformation(); IList<SWTimeEnvInfoDTO> g = t.getInfo(); Application["AppID"] = g; } ^ Global.asax IList<SWTimeEnvInfoDTO> result = new List<SWTimeEnvInfoDTO>(); public void returnTimeLineInfo(string SWrelease, string EnvName, DateTime SDate, DateTime EDate) { SWTimeEnvInfoDTO myDTO = new SWTimeEnvInfoDTO(); myDTO.softwareReleaseName = SWrelease; myDTO.environmentName = EnvName; myDTO.StartDate = SDate; myDTO.EndDate = EDate; result.Add(myDTO); getInfo(); } public IList<SWTimeEnvInfoDTO> getInfo() { return result; } ^ class im calling The SWTimeEnvInfoDTO type has get and set methods for the data. I am calling the application from a View as well. It works with a string Application["AppID"] = "fgt"; and shows this once i read it from my view.

  • Is there a recommended logging path/folder for ASP.NEt applications?

    Currently we use log4net and create a new folder (usually below C:) with write and create access rights for the worker process user. Is there perhaps a standard windows folder we should or could be using such as LOCALAPPDATA? I'm guessing that LOCALAPPDATA is a bad choice in the general case because IIS users tend to be non-interactive users and thus I don't think they have the usual user folder structrues available.

Perhaps because of web server's OS format (Russian is set). String like 2000.00 throws a FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format. How to fix that? Are there any other ideas except String.Replace('.', ',') on FormView.ItemInserting event?

  • How do i have optional parameter but still validate them in asp.net mvc routing ?

    I have this route that i just added routes.MapRoute( "MyRoute", "MyController/{action}/{orgId}/{startDate}/{endDate}", new { controller = "MyController", action = "MyAction", orgId = 0, startDate = DateTime.Today.AddMonths(-1), endDate = DateTime.Today }, new { action = new FromValuesListConstraint(new string[] { "MyAction", "MyActionEx" }), orgId = new IntegerRouteConstraint(), startDate = new DateTimeRouteConstraint(), endDate = new DateTimeRouteConstraint() } when i put in this url, it resolves down to the default route (controller, action,id) and the above rout does not catch this url: http://localhost:1713/MyController/MyAction/16 But this below works fine. http://localhost:1713/MyController/MyAction/16/11-May-10/11-May-10 my question is that i thought both would work as i am giving default values to the startDate and enddate fields i tested this using the RouteDebugger and this route turned up false how can i have these last two parameter as optional but still have the validation ?

  • How do I update the UI during an event using ASP.NET?

    I'm a bit stuck with a problem. I feel like the solution should be fairly straight forward but I'm completely out of ideas for some reason. Here's the problem. I've got a user control with a couple of buttons. Think of them as 'On' and 'Off'. When either button is clicked an async method is called. If the method is successful an event is fired. Within the event I want to update the enabled property of the two buttons so that only a single button is clickable at any one time. The problem is that any changes I make to the properties are not shown on screen because the postback is already complete. I tried wrapping the buttons in an UpdatePanel but I get an "Update method can only be called on UpdatePanel with ID 'xxxx' before Render' error. I understand why the problem occurs but I can't think of a solution. Help! Ideally what I'd like to do is simply call a method within the event that will update the UI, but I don't know if that's possible.

[AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Get)] [MyCustomFilter] public ActionResult Bar(...) { ... } Now, I wish to add some logging to this CustomFilter Action .. so being a good boy, I'm using DI/IoC ... and as such wish to use this pattern for my custom FilterAttribute. So if i have the following... ILoggingService and wish to add this my custom FilterAttribute .. i'm not sure how. Like, it's easy for me to do the following... public class MyCustomFilterAttribute : FilterAttribute { public MyCustomFilterAttribute(ILoggingService loggingService) { ... } } But the compiler errors saying the attribute which decorates my ActionMethod (listed above...) requires 1 arg .. so i'm just not sure what to do :(

How can cancel the current request and just redirect?

We are looking for authentication methods that will allow us: 1. Scalability. 2. Customization. 3. To create permissions that will effect the GUI + deny access to certain pages. 4. To create predefined roles - that will allow for easy setup of new users. 5. To create custom roles for specific users - allowing them permission sets that are different from the predefined roles.     I am binding a Foreign key property in my model. I am passing a list of possible values for that property in my model. This is what I need: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Create(UserModel model) { if (ModelState.IsValid) { // insert logic here } //the validation fails so I pass the model again to the view for user to update data but model.Roles is null :( return View(model); } As written in the comments above I need to pass the model with the list of roles again to my view but model.Roles is null. Currently I ask the service again for the roles (model.Roles = RoleModel.FromArray(_userService.GetAllRoles());) but I don't want to add an extra overhead of getting the list from DB when I have already done that.. Anyone knows how to do it?

  • Can I create an ASP.NET ImageButton that doesn't postback?

    I'm trying to use the ImageButton control for client-side script execution only. I can specify the client-side script to execute using the OnClientClick property, but how do I stop it from trying to post every time the user clicks it? There is no reason to post when this button is clicked. I've set CausesValidation to False, but this doesn't stop it from posting.
