• Converting image to byte/encoding it? - RichTextBox

  I have strings that are "Images", although they are in "String" format. Here's how one of the strings look like: {\pict\wmetafile8\picw820\pich900\picwgoal465\pichgoal510 010009000003ac1000000000f60900000000f6090000..etc.. It goes on like this for a few more lines. The guy that got this said he converted the image by pasting it in a richtextbox and getting that string. How can I go about getting the same result? Sorry for the lack of info. Just not sure how this is called.

  This is a very open question, but I think it can be very beneficial for SQL readability. So you have a Java program, and you are trying to call a monster SQL statement from it, with many subqueries and joins. The starting point for my question is a string constant like this: static string MONSTER_STATEMENT = "SELECT " + " fields" + "WHERE "+ " fieldA = (SELECT a FROM TableC) " + "AND fieldB IN (%s)" + "AND fieldC = %d " + "FROM " " tableA INNER JOIN tableB ON ..."; It later gets filled using String.format and executed. What are you tricks for making this kind of stuff readable? Do you separate your inner joins. Do you indent the SQL itself inside the string? Where do you put the comments? Please share all of the tricks in your arsenal.

• Using JLists and ListModels

  I have defined a DirectoryListModel class that extends the AbstractListModel class from the Java Api. Internally, I have a list of File objects. I have defined the getElementAt(int index) method as: @Override public Object getElementAt(int index) { return directoryElements.get(index) } The problem is that when I try to run my JList with my DirectoryListModel, it is going to show up the full paths of files instead of just the filenames. I could change this code to: @Override public Object getElementAt(int index) { return directoryElements.get(index).getName(); } and it'd work wonders, but the problem is that in the onclick event I'll want to have the File objects so I can do some checking with them (check if they're directories, etc). If I make getElementAt() return a String, I'm losing that possibility, thus I'd like to konw if there is a way I can format my File objects before the JList shows them in my window. Thanks

• SQL Query, return value from table with no join

  I'm hoping for an idea on the best way to approach what I'm trying to do. I have a table with a list of transactions. Each transactions has a PostDate in DateTime format. I have another table holding the fiscal period values. This table has the following columns; FiscalYear, FiscalMonth, StartDate, EndDate. I'm trying to write a query that will return all values from my transactions table, along with the FiscalYear and FiscalMonth of the PostDate. So I guess I'm just trying to return the FiscalYear and FiscalMonth values when the PostDate falls between the StartDate and EndDate. I've tried using a Subbuery, but I have little experience with them and kept returning an error message that the subquery was returning more than 1 value. • How do I extract info from a block of URLs in php?

  I have a list of urls, which can come in any format. One per line, separated by commas, have random text in between them, etc. the URLs are all from 2 different sites, and have a similar structure For this example, lets say it looks like this Random Text - http://www.domain2.com/variable-value Random Text 2 - http://www.domain1.com/variable-value, http://www.domain1.com/variable-value, http://www.domain1.com/variable-value http://www.domain1.com/variable-value http://www.domain2.com/variable-value http://www.domain1.com/variable-value http://www.domain2.com/variable-value http://www.domain1.com/variable-value I need to extract 2 pieces of information. Check to see if its domain1 or domain2 and the value that follows "variable-" So it should create a multi-dimensional array, which would have 2 items: domain + value. Whats the best way of doing that?

• Tie destruction of an object (sealed) to destruction of an unmanaged buffer

  I'll explain my situation first: I'm interested of using the Bitmap constructor that takes scan0, stride and format, because I'm decoding tiled images and I'd like to choose my own stride so I can decode the tiles without caring about the bounds in the decoder part. Anyway, the problem is that the documentation says: The caller is responsible for allocating and freeing the block of memory specified by the scan0 parameter. However, the memory should not be released until the related Bitmap is released. I can't release the buffer easily, because the Bitmap is then passed to another class that will eventually destroy it and I don't have control over it. Is there some way (hacky, I know) to tell the GC to also release my buffer when the Bitmap is destroyed? (Also, any alternative solution is welcome).

• Google Document export via API

  After using Zend_GData to retrieve a document list feed, I can use the content URLs in the form: http://docs.google.com/document/edit?id=<docid>&hl=en but the source URLs in the form http://docs.google.com/feeds/download/documents/Export?docId=<docid>&exportFormat=html are returning 404 errors. That URL should return the content of the document in the requested format but it is returning 404. This problem is mentioned without resolution on a Google API forum. As indicated in that forum post, this problem only seems to affect new documents. My code works perfectly retrieving old documents, but new ones are 404. Has something changed in the way Google references new documents or in the way permissions are assigned? The code I'm using is essentially the same as the code on this page but this does not seem to be an issue specific to PHP/Zend_Gdata.

• Performance of Serialized Objects in C++

  Hi Everyone, I'm wondering if there is a fast way to dump an STL set to disk and then read it back later. The internal structure of a set is a binary tree, so if I serialize it naively, when I read it back the program will have to go though the process of inserting each element again. I think this is slow even if it is read back in correct order, correct me if I am wrong. Is there a way to "dump" the memory containing the set into disk and then read it back later? That is, keep everything in binary format, thus avoiding the re-insertion. Do the boost serialization tools do this? Thanks! • How do I switch the table that is queried with linq-to-sql

  We have two tables with the same set of columns; depending on the “type” of object the value is stored in one of the two tables. I wish to use common code to access these two tables. If I was using “raw sql” I could just use String.Format() to change the table name. (Likewise for updates etc) The two separate tables are needed as the data access patterns are very different for the common queries on the two tables and therefore different indexes are needed. “Views” and “instead of triggers” etc to make the tables look like a single table are not liked here. A lot of our customers use low end version of SqlServer so we cannot use partition tables.

• Getting time from a cell in Google Spreadsheet

  Hi I have created a Google Spreadsheet form in which for one of the fields I get the time (hh:mm:ss) in 24-hour format. I am using Google Apps Scripts to read values from this spreadsheet and put it into another file. But the other file gets the entire date (don't know from where) and shows a date from 1899. Also the time is shown in PDT (not my time zone). Even the time it prints is not correct How do I read the column value as a string and put it in the other file OR get just the time from the column value (and the correct time) I am using a simple row[0][3] to get the values from an array after doing range.getValues() Thanks.

• How to Print reports in Silvelright 4

  I am wondering if there is anything built in to Silverlight, or possibly c# to allow for printing reports? I'd be happy with any number of methods: exporting files to a pdf format and printing from there, exporting as a text document of some sort and printing from there, or just simply showing the print dialog from the web application itself. I know there are ways to do this in C#, but the c# code-behind is different for many things in Silverlight applications and I can't seem to find anything that will work. So if anyone has any ideas on things I could try it would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

  I need an onsubmit to return false if what's written on the first field is a certain PHP value however the field has a strange id format and I'm not quite sure how to add it in the onsubmit. • Deserialize Xml with empty elements in C#

  Trying to deserialize some xml snippits into objects. The problem is that I'm getting an invalid format on every empy element tag. I can deserialize the object no problem when all of the elements have values. Or the empty elements are ommitted. Xml Snippit: <foo><propOne>1</propOne><propTwo /></foo> C# Class: [Serialilbe()] public class foo { public foo(){} [XmlElementAttribute(IsNullable = true)] public int? propOne {get;set;} [XmlElementAttribute(IsNullable = true)] public int? propTwo {get;set;} } Is there a setting on the class I can make to adjust the parsing? or Is there an easy way I can apply xsl to remove these elements? or Should I use regEx to remove the empty elements be fore desrializing? or an even better way?

  What are the legalities of letting someone borrow a book that you have purchased that so happens to be in PDF format with no DRM? I know that I can lend a printed book to someone and this not infringe copyright, but a pdf? I know that the thought police are going to be on my case about "no one here is a legal expert" or the "question can't be answered" or "controversial", But I would like to have the opportunity to at least surface the issue, and allow people to comment.
