Issue allowing custom Xml Serialization/Deserialization on certain types of field

I've been working with Xml Serialization/Deserialization in .net and wanted a method where the serialization/deserialization process would only be applied to certain parts of an Xml fragment. This is so I can keep certain parts of the fragment in Xml after the deserialization process. To do this I thought it would be best to create a new class (XmlLiteral) that implemented IXmlSerializable and then wrote specific code for handling the IXmlSerializable.ReadXml and IXmlSerializable.WriteXml methods. In my example below this works for Serializing, however during the Deserialization process it fails to run for multiple uses of my XmlLiteral class. In my example below sTest1 gets populated correctly, but sTest2 and sTest3 are empty. I'm guessing I must be going wrong with the following lines but can't figure out why.. Any ideas at all? How to Access a descendant object's internal method in C#

I'm trying to access a method that is marked as internal in the parent class (in its own assembly) in an object that inherits from the same parent. Let me explain what I'm trying to do... I want to create Service classes that return IEnumberable with an underlying List to non-Service classes (e.g. the UI) and optionally return an IEnumerable with an underlying IQueryable to other services. I wrote some sample code to demonstrate what I'm trying to accomplish, shown below. The example is not real life, so please remember that when commenting. All services would inherit from something like this (only relevant code shown): public class ServiceBase<T> { protected readonly ObjectContext _context; protected string _setName = String.Empty; public ServiceBase(ObjectContext context) { _context = context; } public IEnumerable<T> GetAll() { return GetAll(false); } //These are not the correct access modifiers.. With GetAll(bool returnQueryable) being marked internal, the children would not be able to see each other's GetAll(bool) method, just the public GetAll() method. I know that I can add a new internal GetAll method to each service (or perhaps an intermediary parent class within the same assembly) so that each child service within the assembly can see each other's method; but it seems unnecessary since the functionality is already available in the parent class. For example: internal IEnumerable<Employees> GetAll(bool returnIQueryable) { return base.GetAll(returnIQueryable); } Essentially what I want is for services to be able to access other service methods as IQueryable so that they can further refine the uncommitted results, while everyone else gets plain old lists. Any ideas? EDIT You know what, I had some fun playing a little code golf with this... but ultimately I wouldn't be able to use this scheme anyway because I pass interfaces around, not classes. So in my example GetAll(bool returnIQueryable) would not be in the interface, meaning I'd have to do casting, which goes against what I'm trying to accomplish. I'm not sure if I had a brain fart or if I was just too excited trying to get something that I thought was neat to work. Either way, thanks for the responses.

Converting listview to a composite control

Dependency Injection: Jetty 7

Hi StackOverflow! My application requires several interface implementations which require a Jetty server to do their job. This is, however, not necessarily the case in every implementations of those interfaces so the Jetty server is only a dependency. Since it would be a huge amount of pain to wrap the entire jetty server with all its logging, connector and Handler configurations, I want to inject the server to those implementations with Spring. I decided that injecting the Server class is not a good idea because an implementation could stop the server even if its required at another location. Currently I inject empty HandlerList classes to those implementations and they register their handlers to avoid those problems. The Problem: Those handlers might interfere with other handlers for example: implementation one might register a handler for /foo and implementation two too... problem. Has anyone used Jetty in such an environment? And how could this problem be solved? How to move child element from one parent to another using jQuery

I am using the jQuery DataTables plugin. I would like to move the search box (.dataTables_filter) and number of records to display dropdown (.dataTables_length) from their parent element (.dataTables_wrapper) to another div on my page without losing any registered javascript behavior. For instance the search box has a function attached to the 'keyup' event and I want to keep that intact. I have also considered changing the CSS so that the elements are absolutely positioned - but to be frank the page is setup with fluid elements all over, and I really want these elements to be floated in their new parents. Query doesn't use a covering-index when applicable

I've downloaded the employees database and executed some queries for benchmarking purposes. Then I noticed that one query didn't use a covering index, although there was a corresponding index that I created earlier. Only when I added a FORCE INDEX clause to the query, it used a covering index. I've uploaded two files, one is the executed SQL queries and the other is the results. Can you tell why the query uses a covering-index only when a FORCE INDEX clause is added? The EXPLAIN shows that in both cases, the index dept_no_from_date_idx is being used anyway. Fluent NHibermate and Polymorphism and a Newbie!

I'm a fluent nhibernate newbie and I'm struggling mapping a hierarchy of polymorhophic objects. I've produced the following Model that recreates the essence of what I'm doing in my real application. I have a ProductList and several specialised type of products; public class MyProductList { public virtual int Id { get; set; } public virtual string Name {get;set;} public virtual IList<Product> Products { get; set; } public MyProductList() { Products = new List<Product>(); } } public class Product { public virtual int Id { get; set; } public virtual string ProductDescription {get;set;} } public class SizedProduct : Product { public virtual decimal Size {get;set;} } public class BundleProduct : Product { public virtual Product BundleItem1 {get;set;} public virtual Product BundleItem2 {get;set;} } Note that I have a specialised type of Product called BundleProduct that has two products attached. I can add any of the specialised types of product to MyProductList and a bundle Product can be made up of any of the specialised types of product too. Here is the fluent nhibernate mapping that I'm using; public class MyListMap : ClassMap<MyList> { public MyListMap() { Id(ml => ml.Id); Map(ml => ml.Name); HasManyToMany(ml => ml.Products).Cascade.All(); } } public class ProductMap : ClassMap<Product> { public ProductMap() { Id(prod => prod.Id); Map(prod => prod.ProductDescription); } } public class SizedProductMap : SubclassMap<SizedProduct> { public SizedProductMap() { Map(sp => sp.Size); } } public class BundleProductMap : SubclassMap<BundleProduct> { public BundleProductMap() { References(bp => bp.BundleItem1).Cascade.All(); References(bp => bp.BundleItem2).Cascade.All(); } } I haven't configured have any reverse mappings, so a product doesn't know which Lists it belongs to or which bundles it is part of. Next I add some products to my list; MyList ml = new MyList() { Name = "Example" }; ml.Products.Add(new Product() { ProductDescription = "PSU" }); ml.Products.Add(new SizedProduct() { ProductDescription = "Extension Cable", Size = 2.0M }); ml.Products.Add(new BundleProduct() { ProductDescription = "Fan & Cable", BundleItem1 = new Product() { ProductDescription = "Fan Power Cable" }, BundleItem2 = new SizedProduct() { ProductDescription = "80mm Fan", Size = 80M } }); When I persist my list to the database and reload it, the list itself contains the items I expect ie MyList[0] has a type of Product, MyList[1] has a type of SizedProduct, and MyList[2] has a type of BundleProduct - great! If I navigate to the BundleProduct, I'm not able to see the types of Product attached to the BundleItem1 or BundleItem2 instead they are always proxies to the Product - in this example BundleItem2 should be a SizedProduct. Is there anything I can do to resove this either in my model or the mapping? Thanks in advance for your help.

Persistence classes in Qt

Hi, I'm porting a medium-sized CRUD application from .Net to Qt and I'm looking for a pattern for creating persistence classes. In .Net I usually created abstract persistence class with basic methods (insert, update, delete, select) for example: public class DAOBase<T> { public T GetByPrimaryKey(object primaryKey) {...} public void DeleteByPrimaryKey(object primaryKey) {...} public List<T> GetByField(string fieldName, object value) {...} public void Insert(T dto) {...} public void Update(T dto) {...} } Then, I subclassed it for specific tables/DTOs and added attributes for DB table layout: [DBTable("note", "note_id", NpgsqlTypes.NpgsqlDbType.Integer)] [DbField("note_id", NpgsqlTypes.NpgsqlDbType.Integer, "NoteId")] [DbField("client_id", NpgsqlTypes.NpgsqlDbType.Integer, "ClientId")] [DbField("title", NpgsqlTypes.NpgsqlDbType.Text, "Title", "")] [DbField("body", NpgsqlTypes.NpgsqlDbType.Text, "Body", "")] [DbField("date_added", NpgsqlTypes.NpgsqlDbType.Date, "DateAdded")] class NoteDAO : DAOBase<NoteDTO> { } Thanks to .Net reflection system I was able to achieve heavy code reuse and easy creation of new ORMs. The simplest way to do this kind of stuff in Qt seems to be using model classes from QtSql module. Unfortunately, in my case they provide too abstract an interface. I need at least transactions support and control over individual commits which QSqlTableModel doesn't provide. Could you give me some hints about solving this problem using Qt or point me to some reference materials? Update: Based on Harald's clues I've implemented a solution that is quite similar to the .Net classes above. Now I have two classes. Grafting LINQ onto C# 2 library

I'm writing a data access layer. It will have C# 2 and C# 3 clients, so I'm compiling against the 2.0 framework. Although encouraging the use of stored procedures, I'm still trying to provide a fairly complete ability to perform ad-hoc queries. I have this working fairly well, already. For the convenience of C# 3 clients, I'm trying to provide as much compatibility with LINQ query syntax as I can. Jon Skeet noticed that LINQ query expressions are duck typed, so I don't have to have an IQueryable and IQueryProvider (or IEnumerable<T>) to use them. I just have to provide methods with the correct signatures. So I got Select, Where, OrderBy, OrderByDescending, ThenBy, and ThenByDescending working. Where I need help are with Join and GroupJoin. I've got them working, but only for one join. The problem is if I want to join in a third table. TableView result = from t1 in table1 join t2 in table2 on t1["ID"] equals t2["ID"] join t3 in table3 on t1["ID"] equals t3["ID"] select new[]{t1["ID"], t2["Description"], t3["Foo"]}; Now I get an error (Cannot implicitly convert type 'AnonymousType#1' to 'Projection[]'), presumably because the second join is trying to join the third table to an anonymous type containing the first two tables. This anonymous type, of course, doesn't have a Join method. Any hints on how I can do this?

Dynamic model choice field in django formset using multiple select elements

I have models that look something like this: class ProductGroup(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=10, primary_key=True) def __unicode__(self): return self.name class ProductRun(models.Model): date = models.DateField(primary_key=True) def __unicode__(self): return self.date.isoformat() class CatalogItem(models.Model): cid = models.CharField(max_length=25, primary_key=True) group = models.ForeignKey(ProductGroup) run = models.ForeignKey(ProductRun) pnumber = models.IntegerField() def __unicode__(self): return self.cid class Meta: unique_together = ('group', 'run', 'pnumber') class Transaction(models.Model): timestamp = models.DateTimeField() user = models.ForeignKey(User) item = models.ForeignKey(CatalogItem) quantity = models.IntegerField() price = models.FloatField() Let's say there are about 10 ProductGroups and 10-20 relevant ProductRuns at any given time. Each group has 20-200 distinct product numbers (pnumber), so there are at least a few thousand CatalogItems. I am working on formsets for the Transaction model. Instead of a single select menu with the several thousand CatalogItems for the ForeignKey field, I want to substitute three drop-down menus, for group, run, and pnumber, which uniquely identify the CatalogItem. I'd also like to limit the choices in the second two drop-downs to those runs and pnumbers which are available for the currently selected product group (I can update them via AJAX if the user changes the product group, but it's important that the initial page load as described without relying on AJAX). What's the best way to do this? As a point of departure, here's what I've tried/considered so far: My first approach was to exclude the item foreign key field from the form, add the substitute dropdowns by overriding the add_fields method of the formset, and then extract the data and populate the fields manually on the model instances before saving them. It's straightforward and pretty simple, but it's not very reusable and I don't think it is the right way to do this. My second approach was to create a new field which inherits both MultiValueField and ModelChoiceField, and a corresponding MultiWidget subclass. This seems like the right approach. As Malcolm Tredinnick put it in a django-users discussion, "the 'smarts' of a field lie in the Field class." The problem I'm having is when/where to fetch the lists of choices from the db. The code I have now does it in the Field's __init__, but that means I have to know which ProductGroup I'm dealing with before I can even define the Form class, since I have to instantiate the Field when I define the form. So I have a factory function which I call at the last minute from my view--after I know what CatalogItems I have and which product group they're in--to create form/formset classes and instantiate them. It works, but I wonder if there's a better way. After all, the field should be able to determine the correct choices much later on, once it knows its current value. Another problem is that my implementation limits the entire formset to transactions relating to (CatalogItems from) a single ProductGroup. A third possibility I'm entertaining is to put it all in the Widget class. Once I have the related model instance, or the cid, or whatever the widget is given, I can get the ProductGroup and construct the drop-downs. This would solve the issues with my second approach, but doesn't seem like the right approach.

How to eliminate NULL fields in TSQL

I am developing a TSQL query in SSMS 2008 R2. I am trying to develop this query to identify one record / client. Because some of these values are NULL, I am currently doing LEFT JOINS on most of the tables. But the problem with the LEFT JOINs is that now I get 1 record for some clients. But if I change this to INNER JOINs then some clients are excluded entirely because they have NULL values for these columns. How do I limit the query result to just one record / client regardless of NULL values? And if there are non-NULL values then I want it to choose the record with non-NULL values. Using Bundle and Intent with TabHost

I am using TabHost with 3 tabs. I need to pass the params selected from one screen using Bundle and / or Intent to the next and then set the correct tab in TabHost and pass those params to the correct tab. I hope that makes sense. I have a config screen that has several radio buttons that are grouped and 1 checkbox and a button. in my onClick() I have the following code. public class Distribute extends Activity implements OnClickListener { DistributionMap gixnav; protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); TextView textview = new TextView(this); textview.setText("Distribution"); setContentView(R.drawable.configup); Button button = (Button)findViewById(R.id.btn_configup1); button.setOnClickListener(this); } public void onClick(View v) { Intent intent; Bundle extras = new Bundle(); intent = new Intent().setClass(getApplicationContext(), Clevel.class); intent.putExtras(extras); startActivity(intent); } } I need to pass the selection params (which radio button is selected and is the checkbox clicked to Clevel. In Clevel I have to parse the bundle and operate on those params. Basiclaly I will be pulling data froma DB and using that data to call google maps ItemizedOverlay. onClick calls Clevel.class using Intent. This works and I understand how Intent works. What I need to understand is how to grab or reference the selected radio button and whatever else may be clicked or checked and pass it through TabHost to the correct Tab. HTML overflow:hidden doesn't format text correctly

I'm working on a website for an American Football team. They have these newsitems on their front page which they can manage through a CMS system. I have a problem with alligning the text inside those news items. Two of the news items look like this: As you can see, the right newsitem text are displayed nicely. But the left cuts it off really bad. You can only see the top half of the text at the last sentence. I use overflow: hidden; to make sure the text doesn't make the div or newsitem bigger. Does anyone have any idea how to solve this through HTML and CSS or should I cut it off serverside with PHP? JQuery Help: slidetoggle() is not working properly

Hi all, I'm trying to use JQuery Slidetoggle functionality, but not able to use properly. The problem I'm currently facing is my div is sliding down on the click of slide image icon, but after that suddenly data div (in which data is loading) disappears. Means sliding down is perfect but div (in which data is loading , here #divMain) is not visible after that. I am having the following issue above. nhibernate cascade - problem with detached entities

I am going nuts here trying to resolve a cascading update/delete issue :-) I have a Parent Entity with a collection Child Entities. If I modify the list of Child entities in a detached Parent object, adding, deleting etc - I am not seeing the updates cascaded correctly to the Child collection. The problems seems to be something to do with attaching the Product to the new session? As the cascade is set to all-delete-orphan I assume that changes to the collection would be propagated to the relevant entities/tables? In this case deletes? What am I missing here? C
