  I am attempting to build this example. However I am getting the error error MSB8020: The builds tools for WindowsApplicationForDrivers8.1 (Platform Toolset = 'WindowsApplicationForDrivers8.1') cannot be found. To build using the WindowsApplicationForDrivers8.1 build tools, either click the Project menu or right-click the solution, and then select "Update VC++ Projects...". Install WindowsApplicationForDrivers8.1 to build using the WindowsApplicationForDrivers8.1 build tools. I have already installed WDK 8.1 .exe andwhen I right click on the solution I cant find any thing that states "Update VC++ Projects" Any suggestions on how I may resolve this issue and build it. ? I am running Windows 7 and VS2012 Pro.

  What tools best support the DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF) Version 2.0, including support for transfer of the architecture data in accordance with the DoDAF Meta Model (DM2) Physical Exchange Specification (PES)? My initial research found that MagicDraw and Casewise claim support for version 2.0; and several other tools have support for earlier (or unspecified) DoDAF/MoDAF versions including Sparx Enterprise Architect, Troux, IDS Scheer ARIS, Artisan Studio and Rational System Architect. Experiences with any enterprise architecture tools and DoDAF 2.0 would be appreciated. The immediate need is for Data and Information Viewpoint models (DIV-1, DIV-2/OV-7, DIV-3/SV-11), but models in the other Viewpoints will be developed. Thanks -

• Connecting debian and windows via IPsec VPN with Racoon and ipsec-tools

  I've some trouble with the IPsec configuration on my debian server (6 squeeze). This server should connect via IPsec VPN to an windows server, which is protected by an firewall. I've used racoon and ipsec-tools and this tutorial http://wiki.debian.org/IPsec. However, I am not quite sure, if this tutorial fits to my purpose, because of some differences: my Host and my gateway are the same server. So I don't have two different ip addresses. I guess, that's not a problem the other server is an windows system behind a firewall. Hopefully, not a problem the subnet of the windows system is /32 not /24. So I change it to /32. I worked through the tutorial step by step, but I wasn't able to route the ip. The following command didn't work for me: ip route add to 172.16.128.100/32 via XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX src XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX So I tried the following instead: ip route add to 172.16.128.100 .., which obviously not solved the problem. The next problem is the compression. The windows doesn't use a compression, but 'compression_algorithm none;' doesn't work with my racoon. So the current value is 'compression_algorithm deflate;' So my current result looks like this: When I am trying to ping the windows host (ping 172.16.128.100), I receive the following error message from ping: ping: sendmsg: Operation not permitted And racoon logs: racoon: ERROR: failed to get sainfo. After googling for a while I came to no conclusion, what's the solution. Does this error message mean that the first phase of IPsec works? I am thankful for any advice. I guess my configs might be helpful. • Why does this call to jQuery's $.ajax() fire an empty request in Chrome and Firefox?

  Hello, I am trying to call a WCF RESTful service from jQuery. I am using JSON to encode both request and response. The following code functions correctly in IE8: url = 'http://ipv4.fiddler:5683/WeatherWCF/NewBinding/MyService/GetValueFloat'; $.ajax({ url: url, data: '{"alias": "Udetemperatur"}', type: "POST", contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", dataType: "text", // not "json" we'll parse success: function(res) { alert('Received response: ' + res); } }); However, in both Firefox and Chrome, res contains an empty string.   Background To secure websites from cross-site request forgery (CSRF, or XSRF) attack, ASP.NET MVC provides an excellent mechanism: The server prints tokens to cookie and inside the form; When the form is submitted to server, token in cookie and token inside the form are sent by the HTTP request; Server validates the tokens. Specify validation on controller (not on each action) Problem For the first problem, usually a controller contains actions for both HTTP GET and HTTP POST requests, and usually validations are expected for HTTP POST requests.   Does the jQuery $.ajaxSetup method not respect the data field in the options hash when $.post or $.get is called? For example, I might have this code: $.ajaxSetup({ data: { persist: true } }); Then, to send a POST request, I would call this: $.post("/create/something", { name: "foo" }); I was expecting the actual POST data to look like this: { persist: true, name: "foo" } but the only data sent by $.post is { name: "foo" }. Is there any way to get the expected behavior? I'm using jQuery 1.4.1.

• What is best way to raise application events for use with admin network monitoring tools

  In a semi-critical .NET service application, what would be a good strategy for raising application events that could be monitored by network administration tools? The events would be for errors, status changes, and possibly other notifications. My company is planning to use some kind of tool down the road to monitor all critical machines and services. As of right now they are using Spice Works to do some monitoring but it is not known if they will keep this down the road. By strategy I mean, perhaps using some sort of protocol ( my network admin has mentioned SNMP), perhaps a service such as windows event log. I have no idea what is available, so I'm leaving the options open. With that in mind, here is a list of preferences I came up with: Somewhat easy to use with .NET. Reliability Should work well with a variety of admin monitoring tools Works with non - windows monitoring tools Works with Spice Works

The saveCmd property is bound through knockout, but gives an error since it cannot be found. How can the ko.applyBindings get the right reference to the viewmodel? In other words, with what do we need to replace the 'this' keyword int he applyBindings. I would imagine you can 'ask' requirejs to give us the ealiers instantiated object with identifier 'vm.inkoopfactuurAanleveren' but I cannot figure out how.

• C# ASPNET MVC - How do you use ModelState.IsValid in a jquery/ajax postback?

  From what I've seen ModelState.IsValid is only calculated by the MVC frame work on a full postback, is that true? I have a jquery postback like so: var url = "/path/to/controller/myaction"; var id = $("#Id").val(); var somedata = $("#somedata").val(); // repeated for every textbox $.post(url, { id: id, somedata: somedata }, function (data) { // etc }); And the controller action looks like: public JsonResult MyAction(MyModel modelInstance) { if (ModelState.IsValid) { // ... ModelState.IsValid is always true, even when there is invalid data } } But this does not seem to trigger ModelState.IsValid. For example if somedata is 5 characters long, but the DataAnnotation says [StringLength(3)] - in this case ModelStae.IsValid is still true, because it hasn't been triggered. Is there something special I need to do when making a jquery/ajax post instead of a full post? Thanks!

• NDepend 4 – First Steps

  Introduction Thanks to Patrick Smacchia I had the chance to test NDepend 4. I can only say: awesome! This will be the first of a series of posts on NDepend, where I will talk about my discoveries. Keep in mind that I am just starting to use it, so more experienced users may find these too basic, I just hope I don’t say anything foolish! I must say that I am in no way affiliated with NDepend and I never actually met Patrick. Installation No installation program – a curious decision, I’m not against it -, just unzip the files to a folder and run the executable. It will optionally register itself with Visual Studio 2008, 2010 and 11 as well as RedGate’s Reflector; also, it automatically looks for updates. NDepend can either be used as a stand-alone program (with or without a GUI) or from within Visual Studio or Reflector. Getting Started One thing that really pleases me is the Getting Started section of the stand-alone, with links to pages on NDepend’s web site, featuring detailed explanations, which usually include screenshots and small videos (<5 minutes). There’s also an How do I with hierarchical navigation that guides us to through the major features so that we can easily find what we want. Usage There are two basic ways to use NDepend: Analyze .NET solutions, projects or assemblies; Compare two versions of the same assembly. I have so far not used NDepend to compare assemblies, so I will first talk about the first option. After selecting a solution and some of its projects, it generates a single HTML page with an highly detailed report of the analysis it produced. This includes some metrics such as number of lines of code, IL instructions, comments, types, methods and properties, the calculation of the cyclomatic complexity, coupling and lots of others indicators, typically grouped by type, namespace and assembly. The HTML also includes some nice diagrams depicting assembly dependencies, type and method relative proportions (according to the number of IL instructions, I guess) and assembly analysis relating to abstractness and stability. Useful, I would say. Then there’s the rules; NDepend tests the target assemblies against a set of more than 120 rules, grouped in categories Code Quality, Object Oriented Design, Design, Architecture and Layering, Dead Code, Visibility, Naming Conventions, Source Files Organization and .NET Framework Usage. The full list can be configured on the application, and an explanation of each rule can be found on the web site. Rules can be validated, violated and violated in a critical manner, and the HTML will contain the violated rules, their queries – more on this later - and results. The HTML uses some nice JavaScript effects, which allow paging and sorting of tables, so its nice to use. Similar to the rules, there are some queries that display results for a number (about 200) questions grouped as Object Oriented Design, API Breaking Changes (for assembly version comparison), Code Diff Summary (also for version comparison) and Dead Code. The difference between queries and rules is that queries are not classified as passes, violated or critically violated, just present results. The queries and rules are expressed through CQLinq, which is a very powerful LINQ derivative specific to code analysis. All of the included rules and queries can be enabled or disabled and new ones can be added, with intellisense to help. Besides the HTML report file, the NDepend application can be used to explore all analysis results, compare different versions of analysis reports and to run custom queries. Comparison to Other Analysis Tools Unlike StyleCop, NDepend only works with assemblies, not source code, so you can’t expect it to be able to enforce brackets placement, for example. It is more similar to FxCop, but you don’t have the option to analyze at the IL level, that is, other that the number of IL instructions and the complexity. What’s Next In the next days I’ll continue my exploration with a real-life test case. References The NDepend web site is http://www.ndepend.com/.   Have you ever taken a look under the hood at the JQuery 1.4 source code and noticed how it's encapsulated in the following way: (function( window, undefined ) { //All the JQuery code here ... })(window); I've read an article on JavaScript Namespacing and another one called "An Important Pair of Parans," so I know some about what's going on here. But I've never seen this particular syntax before. What is that undefined doing there? And why does window need to be passed and then appear at the end again?

  Hi, I have used the excellent gskinner.com/RegExr/ tool to test my string matching regex but I cannot figure out how to implement this into my jQuery file to return true or false. The code I have is as follows: ^(http:)\/\/(.+\.)?(stackoverflow)\. on a url such as http://stackoverflow.com/questions/ask this would match (according to RegExr) http://stackoverflow.   Hi, Can anyone advise if its possible to pass data via JQUERY to an ASP.NET MVC controller action and have a view rendered in new browser tab based on the model data passed to the action method. My scenario is that I have a Jqgrid populated with product info on a page. The user would tick the items in the grid that they would like a label produced for. After they've made their slection they would click a button and I would like (if possible) to render a view of that contains a label for each selected item and have the view render in a new browser tab. All the code to allow the selections and post the relevant data back to the action method is all working fine and I know its easy to use the Jquery $(selector).load() command to populate an element on the current page with the HTML returned from the action. But is it possible to populate an element on a page in a new browser tab. If it is how would I go about it? Hope this make sense.

• jQuery event handlers always execute in order they were bound - any way around this?

  It can be anoying that jQuery event handlers always execute in the order they were bound. For example: $('span').click(doStuff1()); $('span').click(doStuff2()); clicking on the span will cause doStuff1() to fire, followed by doStuff2(). At the time I bind doStuff2(), I would like the option to bind it before doStuff1(), but there doesn't appear to be any easy way to do this. I suppose most people would say, just write the code like this: $('span').click(function (){ doStuff2(); doStuff1(); }); But this is just a simple example - in practise it is not always convienient to do that. There are situations when you want to bind an event, and the object you are binding to already has events. And in this case you may simply want the new event to fire before any other existing events. So what is the best way to achieve this in jQuery?

  In past i had read the documentation about getJSON and there is an example with a flickr photo api. (the example with the [pussy]cats :-)). No I ask myself why is it possible, to access flickr directly with this example. Ive tried this by store this code on my local machine - it works but if I use a local copy of jquery i just get an error in firebug like this $ is not defined myurl/test.html Line 11 Does anybody of you have a solution for this paradox thing? (Normally I only use document.ready, but in this case I need to insert some Information into the DOM that then is present, when document.ready is called. This is some kind of "happens-before" relations ship I want to achieve so that I am shure when document.ready is called the inserted Form field is available in the document, as I depend on that information. • Is there a way to add name/value functionality to jquery autocomplete for .net?

  I've recently added the JQuery autocomplete plug in and have a textbox that autocompletes a list of employees. It works great and I commend the authors of the plugin. I think the textbox would be MUCH more useful though, when upon selecting, we can extract the StaffID (Ie. retreive the value of the selection). My code is below and you can see that I am simply adding the staff names, would be nice to associate IDs. Does anyone know of any way to do this? • In JQuery 1.4.2 .ajax converts JSON wrong.

  My code worked fine in JQuery 1.3.2, but in 1.4.2 it seems to be broken. What is should get in the post is something like this: ?pks=108;pks=107 What I now get is: ?pks[]=108;pks[]=107; When I trace this code through, the JSON object seems to be fine until it enters .ajax. Firebug after the response is received shows the post was: Parameters application/x-www-form-urlencoded pks[] 108 pks[] 107 Source pks%5B%5D=108&pks%5B%5D=107 Which is not what I got on JQuery 1.3.2. Where are those extra braces coming from?

• Is using jquery to call a WCF Data Service from the UI violating the MVC pattern.

  I'm fairly new to ASP.Net MVC 2 and understand the MVC pattern in itself. But my question is what's the best way to populate dropdownlists in the UI sticking to the MVC pattern. Should I be going through the controller? Every article I've seen to do this shows how to do it using javascript and jquery. I have a test application that I'm re-writing in MVC2 I have my dropdowns working with jquery basically calling a WCF Data Service that returns JSON which populates the dropdowns. Seems to me though that this is bypassing the controller and going straight to the model therefore strictly violating the MVC pattern. Or am I missing something obvious here. You thoughts or best practices would be greatly welcome here. Thanks

  Hello all, I'm struggling with this, maybe some of you can help... I have a home page slideshow with large images at www.theoribeiro.com using jQuery Cycle plugin Images are large and sometimes with slow connections (but even in fast ones) the behavior of the slideshow start is pretty ugly, showing the image all of a sudden or half-loaded. I want to make sure that at least the 2 or 3 first images are loaded before the slideshow starts and meanwhile I want to run a loading animated gif, then I want to fade in the first image. I searched a lot on the internet and on the forums and tried loads of stuff with my limited knowledge of javascript and jQuery but could't come up with a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

But I do not understand how can I identify which and how many parameters have been passed to the webmethod to insert/update the data to the DB.Please could someone help me with this? thanks

• jQuery autocomplete function, how to add support for words not available in the database yet?

  Hi, I'm looking to implement a tag system like how SO uses on their site, where users can specify multiple tag words. However, on top of all the other autocomplete functions available as jquery plugins, I also want to allow users to enter new words not in the database. Does anyone know of any plugin that can do that? Or if there isn't, how one can add that functionality to an existing autocomplete function?
