  • List Management Via MailChimp API

    - by goombaloon
I'm investigating using the MailChimp API to manage email notifications for a social networking site (similar to how Twitter sends email notifications to followers when a followee posts a new Tweet). My original plan was to have a "follower" list for each user in the app and then send an email to that list each time that user posts new content. However, it appears that the MailChimp API intentionally doesn't support creating campaign lists via the API (for CAN-SPAM reasons). I've read something about list segmentation in MailChimp, but I don't think that helps me with this situation. I'm curious if anyone else has run into a similar requirement to mine and how they dealt with it. Any insights would be most appreciated! Thanks.

  • Is writing to a socket an arbitrary limitation of the sendfile() syscall?

    - by Sufian
Prelude sendfile() is an extremely useful syscall for two reasons: First, it's less code than a read()/write() (or recv()/send() if you prefer that jive) loop. Second, it's faster (less syscalls, implementation may copy between devices without buffer, etc...) than the aforementioned methods. Less code. More efficient. Awesome. In UNIX, everything is (mostly) a file. This is the ugly territory from the collision of platonic theory and real-world practice. I understand that sockets are fundamentally different than files residing on some device. I haven't dug through the sources of Linux/*BSD/Darwin/whatever OS implements sendfile() to know why this specific syscall is restricted to writing to sockets (specifically, streaming sockets). I just want to know... Question What is limiting sendfile() from allowing the destination file descriptor to be something besides a socket (like a disk file, or a pipe)?

  • Free downloadable products in Magento

    - by Aaron Newton
Hello Magento boffins. I am using Magento to build an eBooks site. For the release, we plan to have a number of free downloadable books. We were hoping that it would be possible to use the normal Magento 'catalog' functionality to add categories with products underneath. However, since these are free downloadable products, it doesn't really make sense to send users through the checkout when they try to download. Does anyone know of a way to create a free downloadable product which bypasses the checkout altogether? I have noticed that there is a 'free sample' option for downloadable products, but I would prefer not to use this if I can as I plan to use this field for its intended purpose when I add paid products.

  • Saving a huge dataset into SQL table in a XML column - MS SQL, C#.Net

    - by NLV
Hello all I'm having a requirement where i've to save a dataset which has multiple tables in it in a sql table XML column by converting into an XML. The problem is that in some cases the dataset grows extremely huge and i get OutOfMemoryException. What i basically do is that i convert the dataset into an xml file and save it in the local disk and then load the XML again and send it as a stored procedure parameter. But when i write the dataset xml into the disk the file sizes over 700 Mb and when i load it in the XMLDocument object in memory i get OutOfMemoryException. How can get the dataset xml without saving it in a file and re-reading it again? Thank You NLV

  • java: how to get a string representation of a compressed byte array ?

    - by Guillaume
I want to put some compressed data into a remote repository. To put data on this repository I can only use a method that take the name of the resource and its content as a String. (like data.txt + "hello world"). The repository is moking a filesystem but is not, so I can not use File directly. I want to be able to do the following: client send to server a file 'data.txt' server compress 'data.txt' into a compressed file 'data.zip' server send a string representation of data.zip to the repository repository store data.zip client download from repository data.zip and his able to open it with its favorite zip tool The problem arise at step 3 when I try to get a string representation of my compressed file. Here is a sample class, using the zip*stream and that emulate the repository showcasing my problem. The created zip file is working, but after its 'serialization' it's get corrupted. (the sample class use jakarta commons.io ) Many thanks for your help. package zip; import java.io.File; import java.io.FileInputStream; import java.io.FileOutputStream; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.InputStream; import java.util.zip.ZipEntry; import java.util.zip.ZipInputStream; import java.util.zip.ZipOutputStream; import org.apache.commons.io.FileUtils; /** * Date: May 19, 2010 - 6:13:07 PM * * @author Guillaume AME. */ public class ZipMe { public static void addOrUpdate(File zipFile, File ... files) throws IOException { File tempFile = File.createTempFile(zipFile.getName(), null); // delete it, otherwise you cannot rename your existing zip to it. tempFile.delete(); boolean renameOk = zipFile.renameTo(tempFile); if (!renameOk) { throw new RuntimeException("could not rename the file " + zipFile.getAbsolutePath() + " to " + tempFile.getAbsolutePath()); } byte[] buf = new byte[1024]; ZipInputStream zin = new ZipInputStream(new FileInputStream(tempFile)); ZipOutputStream out = new ZipOutputStream(new FileOutputStream(zipFile)); ZipEntry entry = zin.getNextEntry(); while (entry != null) { String name = entry.getName(); boolean notInFiles = true; for (File f : files) { if (f.getName().equals(name)) { notInFiles = false; break; } } if (notInFiles) { // Add ZIP entry to output stream. out.putNextEntry(new ZipEntry(name)); // Transfer bytes from the ZIP file to the output file int len; while ((len = zin.read(buf)) > 0) { out.write(buf, 0, len); } } entry = zin.getNextEntry(); } // Close the streams zin.close(); // Compress the files if (files != null) { for (File file : files) { InputStream in = new FileInputStream(file); // Add ZIP entry to output stream. out.putNextEntry(new ZipEntry(file.getName())); // Transfer bytes from the file to the ZIP file int len; while ((len = in.read(buf)) > 0) { out.write(buf, 0, len); } // Complete the entry out.closeEntry(); in.close(); } // Complete the ZIP file } tempFile.delete(); out.close(); } public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException { final String zipArchivePath = "c:/temp/archive.zip"; final String tempFilePath = "c:/temp/data.txt"; final String resultZipFile = "c:/temp/resultingArchive.zip"; File zipArchive = new File(zipArchivePath); FileUtils.touch(zipArchive); File tempFile = new File(tempFilePath); FileUtils.writeStringToFile(tempFile, "hello world"); addOrUpdate(zipArchive, tempFile); //archive.zip exists and contains a compressed data.txt that can be read using winrar //now simulate writing of the zip into a in memory cache String archiveText = FileUtils.readFileToString(zipArchive); FileUtils.writeStringToFile(new File(resultZipFile), archiveText); //resultingArchive.zip exists, contains a compressed data.txt, but it can not //be read using winrar: CRC failed in data.txt. • How to decompress/inflate an XML response from ASP

    - by krisg
Can anyone provide some insight into how i'd go about decompressing an XML response in classic ASP. We've been handed some code and asked to get it working: Set oXMLHttp = Server.CreateObject("MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP") URL = HttpServer + re_domain + ".do;jsessionid=" + ue_session + "?" + data oXMLHttp.setTimeouts 5000, 60000, 1200000, 1200000 oXMLHttp.open "GET", URL, false oXMLHttp.setRequestHeader "Accept-Encoding", "gzip" oXMLHttp.send() if oXMLHttp.status = 200 Then if oXMLHttp.responseText = "" then htmlrequest_get = "Empty Response from Server" else htmlrequest_get = oXMLHttp.responseText end if else ... Apparently now that the response is compressed using gzip, we have to un-compress the XML response before we can start to work with the data. How should i go about this?

  • How to convert thousands of PDF files to a single Postscript file in a specified order

    - by tggagne
I've discovered multiple options for convert a few to serveral PDFs into Postscript, but many are command-line programs with command-line limitations (this application lives on .NET). Our application generates tens-of-thousands of PDFs that we need to send to a printer, except BEFORE the Postscript is printed we need to edit the Postscript to insert print command instructions (duplex, tray-pulls, highlight color, etc.) I think a perfect solution might allow us to write the PDFs to a stream, and simultaneously allow us to read the output stream so we may edit the Postscript before writing it to a file. Of course, if I must create the file first containing all 10,000 PDFs and edit it in an additional pass, I'm OK with that, too. I should mention that speed is important. I need to print 10,000 at a time, but need to keep the printers busy 24-hours/day.

  • Need a way for users to enter data while offline and re-submit it when back online

    - by crankharder
As part of a larger webapp, I want to build functionality that allows a user to enter data while offline -- and then send that data back to my site when they have a connection again The parts that, to me, are missing ar Saving a certain set of data in their browser Saving a form that allows them to enter data using form from step#2 to update data from step#1 getting data out of the local data store and sending it back to the server I would like to keep this entirely within the browser, so... Does HTML5 meet some (or all) of those goals as it's currently implemented in webkit/ff3? If not, what technologies should I start looking into in order to accomplish all of the above.

  • Serializing an object into the body of a WCF request using webHttpBinding

    - by Bert
    I have a WCF service exposed with a webHttpBinding endpoint. [OperationContract(IsOneWay = true)] [WebInvoke(Method = "POST", RequestFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json, BodyStyle = WebMessageBodyStyle.Bare, UriTemplate = "/?action=DoSomething&v1={value1}&v2={value2}")] void DoSomething(string value1, string value2, MySimpleObject value3); In theory, if I call this, the first two parameters (value1 & value 2) are taken from the Uri and the final one (value3) should be deserialized from the body of the request. Assuming I am using Json as the RequestFormat, what is the best way of serialising an instance of MySimpleObject into the body of the request before I send it ? This, for instance, does not seem to work : HttpWebRequest sendRequest = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(url); sendRequest.ContentType = "application/json"; sendRequest.Method = "POST"; using (var sendRequestStream = sendRequest.GetRequestStream()) { DataContractJsonSerializer jsonSerializer = new DataContractJsonSerializer(typeof(MySimpleObject)); jsonSerializer.WriteObject(sendRequestStream, obj); sendRequestStream.Close(); } sendRequest.GetResponse().Close();

  • When to use MVP in Windows Forms .net application?

    - by Janalopa
I am familiar with MVC/MVP though my question is simple, I'm about to program a simple Instant Messaging software when the engine and communication part is an open API. so my software will have about 3 forms, a splash screen with login details, the options form and a main form with all the functionality like: Friends List, Send message, Received messages (tabbed), search user, etc. In UI perspective, its important for the GUI to be in 1 form in my application. So my question is, for the only complicated form that I'm going to have, is it necessary to implement an MVP design pattern or in this case its better to just go straight forward and put all the logic in 1 place? THANKS Janalopa!

  • Select points on a map

    - by Dave Hanna
I am just beginning design work on a problem that I'm sure has been solved before. In a web based application, I need to: a) present a map b) place a set of points (map-pins) on the map c) allow the user at his browser to draw a simple closed curve on the map with his mouse d) send the path of that curve back to the server e) on the server, select from the set of points those that are within the closed curve. What are the best API's to use for this problem? (I know I can and will do more research with Google, but I'm figuring there is probably someone who has done this that can give me some pointers to narrow my search space.) Thanks.

  • Setting image DPI in relation to height/width C#

    - by Aaron
Hi, I'm writing an application to send some images to a third party, and the images must be 200x200 DPI. The image is a Bitmap and is sized at 500 width and 250 height. The first time I tested the images with the third party, my resolution was incorrect. I merely used image.SetResolution(200,200) to correctly set it to 200x200. This, however, only changed the resolution tag for the image and did not properly, according to my third party technical contact, adjust the image height and width. Is there a ratio that I can use so that for each X units I increment the resolution, I merely increment the corresponding height or width Y units? I thought that I could just increment resolution without having to increment height or width. Thank you, Aaron.

  • Serial port determinism

    - by Matt Green
This seems like a simple question, but it is difficult to search for. I need to interface with a device over the serial port. In the event my program (or another) does not finish writing a command to the device, how do I ensure the next run of the program can successfully send a command? Example: The foo program runs and begins writing "A_VERY_LONG_COMMAND" The user terminates the program, but the program has only written, "A_VERY" The user runs the program again, and the command is resent. Except, the device sees "A_VERYA_VERY_LONG_COMMAND," which isn't what we want. Is there any way to make this more deterministic? Serial port programming feels very out-of-control due to issues like this.

  • C#: Messaging in local network

    - by Richard
Hi All, I need to implement some form of communitcation mechanism in my application, to send Notifications/messages from one Application instance to all the others. This is a normal scenario where someone adds and item or deletes and item and you want to notify other users that this has happened. The application runs on the Client and connects to a database on the local network. So its not like all clients access a server instance of the application. So from what I know I could use MessageQueues or some form of Database polling where I have a table that stores all the messages (not ideal). Issue is I need to implement this very quickly, so sadly can't go very complex but need the quickest easiest solution. thanks for the help!

  • c# HTTPListener encoding issue

    - by Rob Griffin
I have a Java application sending HTTP requests to a C# application. The C# app uses HTTPListener to listen for requests and respond. On the Java side I'm encoding the URL using UTF-8. When I send a \ character it gets encoded as %5C as expected but on the C# side it becomes a / character. The encoding for the request object is Windows-1252 which I think may be causing the problem. How do I set the default encoding to UTF-8? Currently I'm doing this to convert the encoding: foreach (string key in request.QueryString.Keys) { if (key != null) { byte[] sourceBytes =request.ContentEncoding.GetBytes(request.QueryString[key]); string value = Encoding.UTF8.GetString(sourceBytes)); } } This handles the non ASCII characters I'm also sending but doesn't fix the slash problem. Examining request.QueryString[key] in the debugger shows that the / is already there.

  • How to authenticate WCF calls using forms authentication and secutity

    - by Fixer
I'm planning a set up for a distributed application that spans serveral machines and will use WCF to send data in between. Machine A Front end website http://www.site.com Password protected site using Forms Authentication Machine B WCF Application Service http://service1.site.com/DoSomething.svc Machine C WCF Application Service http://service2.site.com/DoSomething.svc The WCF services on Machine B and Machine C should check that the request from Machine A has been authenticated. How can i check that the request is authenticated across the different machines? I only care that the request is authenticated and not concerned about securing the message body (because we are not sending any sensitive data across the wire), so SSL is not required. What authentication methods can i use for the above scenario?

  • ActiveMerchant - Optimal method of sending money to user? PayPal account or Credit

    - by Kevin
I have a website that will take payments from user A, hold them in our escrow account, then transfer the money minus a fee to user B. I have the first part figured out, in terms of taking credit card payments from user A, but I'm trying to figure out the optimal method of taking that money and sending it to user B. I'm not storing credit card info due to privacy and I don't mind requiring user B to sign up for a PayPal account if they're going to use the system but I don't know how to directly send payments to a PayPal account. I'm using ActiveMerchant and the PayPal gateway on Rails 2.3.5. I'm also open to any suggestions as to what the optimal method is to take money from user A, hold it for 1-60 days, then transfer it to user B while incurring minimal fees and something I can implement in Rails hopefully that won't cause me to have an aneurysm.

  • How do i redirect to a GET request from a POST request on GAE

    - by user259349
Hello everyone, i am writing an FBML app on facebook hosted in GAE. Facebook will talk to your hosted app only vai POST (im sure this is the cause, but please do correct me if i'm wrong). So im faced with the issue that inside of my POST method, i need to redirect to facebook OAuth authroize URL. But i can only send a GET request. How can i do that? At the moment i'm doing class OauthHandler(webapp.RequestHandler): def post(self): # blablablab request.redirect(oauth_uri) Which is wrong since the oauth_uri is only responding to GET. Further more, OAuth will redirect back to my redirect handler through GET, but i cant! i can only do post. So i'm confused. ideas? Thanks in advance

  • SWFUpload is it possible to upload multiple files to a single php script execution

    - by user176333
Hello, I'm trying to implement SWFUpload into an existing PHP upload funcitonality. My current backend script however expects 2 fiels to be uploaded in a single php script execution. (e.g. it excepts the $_FILES parameters to contain 2 entries). So i'm queueing 2 files with SWFUpload and start uploading them. However it appears SWFLUpload calls the php backend script for each queued file. I'd rather modify SWFUpload to send the files with a single backend script execution instead on having to adjust the backend script. Is anyone familiar with this? I've searched various resources (like the SWFUploads docs and forum, but have not found similiar topics. Thanks in advance

  • git: Is it possible to save the packed objects of a dry run and push them later?

    - by shovavnik
I'm trying to push a bunch of commits that contain a lot of code and a few thousand MP3 and PDF files besides (ranging from 5-40 MB each). Git successfully packs the objects: C:\MyProject> git push Counting objects: 7582, done. Delta compression using up to 2 threads. Compressing objects: 100% (7510/7510), done. But it fails to send the push for some as yet unknown reason. The problem is that it takes it a very long time to repack the files (I'm on a battery-powered laptop and it took about 20 minutes to pack). So I guess my question can be phrases thus: Is it possible to save the packed objects created in a dry run? Once saved, is it possible to push those packed objects and avoid repacking? I looked it up in the git manual and elsewhere and couldn't find anything conclusive. Any help or pointers are appreciated.

  • How to request device token on iphone

    - by Greg
Hello, I am able to use the didRegisterForRemoteNotificationWithDeviceToken callback method to get the device token of my iphone when subscribing to push notifications. My question is how can I get this token again a later time? When a user subscribes to something in my application, I want to send the device token and the id of the item they are subscribing to...but I can't figure out where to get the device token from. I tried using the uniqueIdentifer from the UIDevice class but this value is different than what the original token was. I supposed I could call registerForRemoteNotificationTypes each time my app starts to produce the token. But if I do that, I'm not sure how I can access this value from a different class (my didRegisterForRemoteNotificationWithDeviceToken callback is located in the main application delegate). Thanks for any help for an objective C newbie!
