  • Rails Deployment: moving static files to S3

    Someone posted something similar but it didn't really solve the problem. I want to move all my static files (images, javascript, css) to an Amazon S3 bucket when I deploy my app, as well as rewrite those paths in my app, is there a simple way to accomplish this? or am I in for a huge amount of work here?

  • "PGError: no connection to the server" after idle

    After my application sits idle overnight, when I try to access it in the morning I get a 500 Internal server error and the logs indicate "PGError: no connection to the server". After this first request if I refresh the page again everything is fine. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 with apache 2, Passenger 3.0.2, Rails 2.3.8, and Postgres 8.4 on a remote server. Any ideas how to fix this?     I have a Ruby on Rails app that needs process many background jobs simultaneously: anywhere from 5-6 at a time to up to 50-60 at a time depending on the time of day. Right now my app is running on Heroku, which charges $.05/hour per worker, regardless of how much CPU or memory the worker is using. This is costing me a boatload each month... up to $1200/mo. Are there any hosts that will allow me to do what I'm doing for significantly cheaper?

    Okay, I've got my normal app which is in portrait mode. I can force my app to go to landscape mode for a view (using navigationcontroller and viewcontroller) like this: - (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { [[UIDevice currentDevice] setOrientation:UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight]; } But then when I go back to the main menu (tableview) it goes straight back to portrait. Jtwitter seems to support OAuth however I have some questions. My app will be running behind a company firewall - so the URL wont be accessible outside of the company's network - will callback authorisation work, and does anybody have an example of using callback authorisation using OAuth in JTwitter - because I cannot work it out in order to try it.     I'm trying to turn a method I have right now into a more "generic" method that returns a string. Right now, the method uses a statement like this: var app = (from d in testContext.DAPPs where d.sserID == (Guid)user.ProviderUserKey select d).ToList(); I process the results of "app", add extra text etc. The piece that changes (that I need to make more "generic") is the table name (DAPPs). Is there a way I can do that, or, a better way to go around this all together?

I was thinking I should be using the latest 3.2 but when I select that I can only access the iPad simulator ... Should I be using 3.1.3 which runs the iPhone simulator.   • Iframe Facebook application and cookies [Internet Explorer]

    I have downloaded the IBM P3P editor, created files and uploaded them to my server. And cookies are still not recognized in Internet Explorer. I've checked the P3P validation tool and it seems to validate. The application can be viewed here: apps.facebook.com/naplesnews and the iframe points to www.naplesnews.com/facebook/app/. Again www.naplesnews.com/facebook/app/ seems to validate with no issues as well. Any idea what I'm missing here?

BUT: it is spontaneously changing to en-US notation when navigating between items in the data source that is bound to the DataForm. Why?
