  • Processing variable number of form fields

    I am working on a form which displays information about orders. Each order has a unique id, but they are not necessarily sequential on the form. Also, the number of fields can vary (one field per row on the form). The input into the form will not be mapped straight into the database, but will be added to the current value in the database, and then saved. An example of the form is in the picture below - the callout on the right shows the id for each row. I know how to generate the form like this, but I can't work out how I can easily process each of these rows reliably. I also know how to give each of the fields a unique identifier, like name="row-23", but how can I translate that name so that I can update the related record in the database?

  • LINQ to SQL for tables across databases. Or View?

    I have a Message table and a User table. Both are in separate databases. There is a userID in the Message table that is used to join to the User table to find things like userName. How can I create this in LINQ to SQL? I can't seem to do a cross database join. Should I create a View in the database and use that instead? Will that work? What will happen to CRUD against it? E.g. if I delete a message - surely it won't delete the user? I'd imagine it would throw an error. What to do? I can't move the tables into the same database!

    Hi, I have an action in my controller: RedirectToRouteResult Create(UserDTO UserDTO) Which at some point decides with which HTML to respond after a post request by redirecting to an action: return ModelState.IsValid ? RedirectToAction("ThanksCreate") : RedirectToAction("Register"); In my unit tests I would like to get hold of the ‘views’ modelstate somehow like this: var modelState = result.ViewData.ModelState; Assert.IsFalse( modelState.IsValid ); where ‘result’ (ViewResult) is the result of the action ‘Create’ depending on the submitted DTO. My dilemma is that my action ‘returns’ a RedirectToRouteResult which I thought is quite nice but it might not be testable or is it? How could I get hold of the ModelState in my scenario? Thanks.     Since I have given up on using the entity framework 4 as my ORM (getting it to work with MySQL and mapping table/field names like this_table/this_field to object naming like ThisTable/ThisField is POCO) I am now looking at NHibernate as it seems the the next big well know ORM for C# that probably with not die off any time soon. I am trying to lookup some tutorials and a lot of them in the configuration section have 2-2 in it and was wondering if those configuration would work with NHibernate 3? I am just curious if the 2-2 refers to the version of NHibernate or something different.

I was curious what the best way to handle this is. I can get the control specific callback fired off by placing myUserControlCallback(); in the user control itself. This hasn't been an issue so far because I was always just passing IDs to my wcf service. But I'm trying to do something more complex now but I can't figure it out.     I´ve tried a couple of different ways to deploy a application to a IIS 7.5 running on my machine for testing purposes and i´ve sort of hit a wall. Nothing works out of the box. Everything assumes I have knowledge I don't have and would prefer not to have to aqquire. Google isn't really helping either with answers ranging from "copy files by hand" to "install teamcity and set it up for CI". I have set up TeamCity for java projects before and it's really over kill for my needs at the moment. So anyone know of a fast, simple and easy way to deploy a application during testing/building?

Can I set some properties in OnExecuting so I don't have to do it for all Actions? I want to then display the string value of the property in all my view pages. If yes, how can I do this?
