• Overnight SQL Server Full Backup taking 4x longer, everything else slower, RAID problem?

  Sql Server on Windows Server 2008: Overnight, fullbackups taking 7-10 hours instead of 1-3 transaction logs taking 4-5 minutes instead of 1 minute Query optimization taking 3x longer I'm feeling like a disk in my Raid Array (raid5) is faulty or the raid controller or network card, Rackspace is telling me everything is fine.   I have SQL Server 2005 on this laptop. I probably got installed along with Visual Studio. The thing is, I don't use it and it's constantly running. Process Explorer reports that it has a virtual Size of 1.5 GB. I want to uninstall this, but I'm not sure if there are any other processes dependent on this.

  I have a stored procedure that runs in Query Analyzer 2008 Enterprise but will not run inside a Job on SQL Agent. It just spins. I have checked permissions, ANSI NULL ON , etc. to no avail. Funny thing is I can wrap a SSIS package around it and then run it from a Agent Job and it works. Any ideas? Thanks in advance V/R Jim

  Server A (SQL2005) is in our primary domain, but server B (SQL2000) is just in a windows workgroup. We are not allowed to join it to the domain, or bad things happen... We also can't enable SQL authentication on server B. We've got domain accounts for A, and matching local accounts on server B. I can connect to B from my local PC or A using SSMS and a domain login, but I can't get the linked server to connect. Any ideas how to do this?

• How can a cached query take 2500 ms on a Sql Server 2008?

  How is it possible that a cached query could take that long. With cache cleared it takes 25000 ms (I know that's just way too long but that's not the issue here). Once it is cached, it takes 2500 ms. What could be the problem here? If it's cached, I assume Sql Server gets it out of the RAM. So, again, 2500ms???

  Defining some Tables in SQL-Server which will be accessed via ODBC from MS-Access. I'm not sure about it, put i read somewhere that a primary key must bee named with 'aaaaaPK_ColumnName'. The 5 'a' should manage that the PK is listed first in the dialog for all key's in MS-Access. What do you think about that?

  To restore an SQL Server 2008 database, I would lile to be able to just do something like this in powershell: ./restore.ps1 DatabaseName.bak Then the powershell script would by convention restore it to a database with name "DatabaseName". It would disconnect any user connected to this database so that it can restore the DB. It would store the mdf and ldf in the default location. This would mainly be while developing on my personal machine. Just a quick way to restore a DB. Anyone has such a script? Thanks
