• How to Export Email "Sent" Folder?

  A client had her web site and email hosted at "company A". She was switching to "company B" but didn't want to lose her email. I set up a Gmail account, POPed into her webmail account, and pulled the entire inbox into Gmail (for later transfer to her new host). But I forgot about the "sent" folder. Although the hosting plan is still up and running, she changed her domain record to point to the new host. So I can't access the old webmail account via POP or IMAP because the email address needed for authentication now resolves to the new host. Is there any way I can get the contents of the sent folder without having to do a "forward" one message at a time (there are hundreds)?

• FTP file access problem

  I recently got a malware on my website. I have made the backup of the website on my computer and trying to wipe off my FTP. I am trying to delete the root folder but getting this error message on all of the malicious files, Response: 550 Could not delete index.php: Permission denied I am the sole administrator of the ftp so permission should not have been an issue. My host provider seems not to suffer from this problem as his websites are running well without any malware. I have also tried to change the root to 777 to see if the file permission change could help me delete the files but still I am getting the same error. Please help out. Thanks

But I have another Ubuntu based distribution on my laptop (BackTrack linux), which is also 10.04, but it has the b43 driver installed and the overall performance is MUCH better. So I would like to install it on this OS too, but even google didn't help me. So my question is how to install the latest b43 driver on my Ubuntu?

Surely they had a reason for not building a generic.... but what is it? • gsm-ussd gives device busy or error (100)

  I am using gsm-ussd to try and query my data balance from my 3G modem. When I issue the commands gsm-ussd -m /dev/ttyUSB0 '*188#' or gsm-ussd -m /dev/ttyUSB2 '*188#' I get either "Device or resource busy" (when it is in used and connected) or "Unknown error (100)". My device (Huawei E173) seems to create 3 devices in /dev, namely ttyUSB0, ttyUSB1 and ttyUSB2. None of them work, and ttyUSB1 gives a somewhat different problem, as it just give the following message: * Wrong modem device (use -m <dev>)? * Modem broken (no reaction to AT)

  I am a little confused on the proper fstab entry for a samba share in Ubuntu 12.04 I can get the drive to mount manually by using: sudo mount -t cifs //192.168.2.2/raid_drive /mnt/homeserver -o username=jon,password=password So I tried putting this in fstab: //192.168.2.2/raid_drive /mnt/homeserver cifs username=jon,password=password,iocharset=utf8,mode=0777,dir_mode=07??77 0 0 Which gives me this error in syslog: kernel: [ 2217.925354] CIFS: Unknown mount option mode kernel: [ 2217.936345] CIFS VFS: default security mechanism requested. The default security mechanism will be upgraded from ntlm to ntlmv2 in kernel release 3.3 This guide says to use smbfs although I believe smbfs is deprecated? What is a common fstab configuration for a samba share in Ubuntu 12.04? EDIT: Using the accepted answer below I was initially getting this error message (from dmesg): [ 45.520883] CIFS VFS: Error connecting to socket. Aborting operation [ 45.520990] CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -115 although it turns out this was due to network connectivity issues, and not related to improper fstab entry.

• How do I get a Canon LBP 2900 printer working?

  i am unable to set up my canon lbp2900 printer on ubuntu12.04 64 bit i aliened the 64 bit rpm drivers and then installed the drivers (version 2.40) and followed the procedure in the canon guide ( however i changed fifo path to //localhost:59787 (somebody suggested) instead of 59687 (as suggested by canon guide) ) intially i got the message pstocapt failed .. the drivers had put the pstocapt and backend/ccp in the lib64 directory instead of the lib directory ... i copied that to the aproprite directory under lib but still i get the error "ccp send_data error exit " i also tried with fifo path //localhost:59687 i also tried the Radu script but the drivers the script uses are version 1.90 and has conflicting packages

Everything "worked" except: If I try to acccess the server with http://myurl/admin I get the error-message "Unable to connect to the iFolder server." Has anyone succeeded with this guide, or is there an iFolder specialist who could help me with the last steps? Update 1: I could connect to the /admin-Interface by not changin anything in the config-script. Changing the ServerName in anything else than localhost brings back the error. And changing username and/or password has no affect.

  In any browser if I use www.mysite.com or just mysite.com the web page is correctly retrieved, but I am having trouble with Google Analytics and Facebook App. Facebook: To be able to get Likes, I create the Facebook App needed and set the site URL to http://mysite.com/. Using their tool http://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/ when I test my page using http://mypage.com it works but using http://www.mypage.com fails with the message: Object at URL 'http://www.mysite.com/' of type 'website' is invalid because the domain 'www.mysite.com' is not allowed for the specified application id. Google Analytics: To be able to get traffic statistics, I created a Property and a Profile both with the URL http://www.mypage.com and no statistics were gathered in a week, when I changed the configured URL to http://mypage.com statistics where available a few hours later. What should I do to have statistics and likes for both www.mysite.com and mysite.com ??

• Unable to fix broken packages with sudo apt-get install -f

  Here's my result, of sudo apt-get install -f. i have Ran it twice and got negative result. I believe there is an error at "error in Version string '0:3.6.1-dates for language English Translation data updates for all supported packages for: English" This same statement "error in Version string, caused me three days of attempting to download version 12.04. There is a bug report concerning the quoted text as well. Is there anyway to download the version without the language packs, why would I corrupt version 11.10? Also, when attempting to download Synaptic using sudo apt-get install synaptic, I get the same error message. Again I point out the initial download problems and the same error message receipt. • Build Controller status Unavailable issue in TFS2010

  I ran into this problem few days back, I was not able to run the builds because the Build Controller was showing Status as Unavailable. It was showing the below exception: There was no endpoint listening at http://fullmachinename:9191/Build/v3.0/Services/Controller/2 that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details. After trying out few things, I looked at below Build Service Properties.   Then, I did below modifications to the Build Services Properties: 1)      Changed the Local Build Service Endpoint(incoming) from http://machinename.domain.com:9191 to http://machinename:9191 2)      Changed the Connect to Team Project Collection (outgoing) from localhost to machine name. http://localhost:8080/tfs/defaultCollection to http://machinename:8080/tfs/DefaultCollection   After that Started the Build Services and it fixed the issue, the Build Controller was showing Available Status and was able to run the builds.

  Error: 0xC001405C at SQL Log Status: A deadlock was detected while trying to lock variables "User::RowCount" for read/write access. A lock cannot be acquired after 16 attempts. The locks timed out. Have you ever considered variable locking when building your SSIS packages? I expect many people haven’t just because most of the time you never see an error like the one above. I’ll try and explain a few key concepts about variable locking and hopefully you never will see that error. First of all, what is all this variable locking all about? Put simply SSIS variables have to be locked before they can be accessed, and then of course unlocked once you have finished with them. This is baked into SSIS, presumably to reduce the risk of race conditions, but with that comes some additional overhead in that you need to be careful to avoid lock conflicts in some scenarios. The most obvious place you will come across any hint of locking (no pun intended) is the Script Task or Script Component with their ReadOnlyVariables and ReadWriteVariables properties. These two properties allow you to enter lists of variables to be used within the task, or to put it another way, these lists of variables to be locked, so that they are available within the task. During the task pre-execute phase the variables and locked, you then use them during the execute phase when you code is run, and then unlocked for you during the post-execute phase. So by entering the variable names in one of the two list, the locking is taken care of for you, and you just read and write to the Dts.Variables collection that is exposed in the task for the purpose. Well obviously for the point of this post, it fails with the error quoted previously. The reason why is clearly illustrated if you consider the following sequence of events. Package execution starts Script Task in Control Flow starts Script Task in Control Flow locks the PackageInt variable as specified in the ReadWriteVariables property Script Task in Control Flow executes script, and the On Information event is raised The On Information event handler starts Script Task in On Information event handler starts Script Task in On Information event handler attempts to lock the PackageInt variable (for either read or write it doesn’t matter), but will fail because the variable is already locked. The problem is caused by the event handler task trying to use a variable that is already locked by the task in Control Flow. Events are always raised synchronously, therefore the task in Control Flow that is raising the event will not regain control until the event handler has completed, so we really do have un-resolvable locking conflict, better known as a deadlock. In this scenario we can easily resolve the problem by managing the variable locking explicitly in code, so no need to specify anything for the ReadOnlyVariables and ReadWriteVariables properties. public void Main() { // Set the variable value to something new, with explicit lock control Variables lockedVariables = null; Dts.VariableDispenser.LockOneForWrite("PackageInt", ref lockedVariables); lockedVariables["PackageInt"].Value = 199; lockedVariables.Unlock(); // Raise an event so we can play in the event handler bool fireAgain = true; Dts.Events.FireInformation(0, "Script Task Code", "This is the script task raising an event.", null, 0, ref fireAgain); Dts.TaskResult = (int)ScriptResults.Success; } Now the package will execute successfully because the variable lock has already been released by the time the event is raised, so no conflict occurs. For those of you with a SQL Engine background this should all sound strangely familiar, and boils down to getting in and out as fast as you can to reduce the risk of lock contention, be that SQL pages or SSIS variables. Unfortunately we cannot always manage the locking ourselves. The Execute SQL Task is very often used in conjunction with variables, either to pass in parameter values or get results out. Either way the task will manage the locking for you, and will fail when it cannot lock the variables it requires. The scenario outlined above is clear cut deadlock scenario, both parties are waiting on each other, so it is un-resolvable. The mechanism used within SSIS isn’t actually that clever, and whilst the message says it is a deadlock, it really just means it tried a few times, and then gave up. The last part of the error message is actually the most accurate in terms of the failure, A lock cannot be acquired after 16 attempts. The locks timed out.  Now this may come across as a recommendation to always manage locking manually in the Script Task or Script Component yourself, but I think that would be an overreaction. It is more of a reminder to be aware that in high concurrency scenarios, especially when sharing variables across multiple objects, locking is important design consideration. Update – Make sure you don’t try and use explicit locking as well as leaving the variable names in the ReadOnlyVariables and ReadWriteVariables lock lists otherwise you’ll get the deadlock error, you cannot lock a variable twice!

• Login timeout disable?

  How can I disable automatic timeout entries in the login screen? Allow me to explain. My typical experience goes something like this: I put my laptop to sleep, then wake it. When it wakes, it comes up with the login screen. I type in my password and it will usually reject it, with a message indicating the login timer has expired. I then enter my password a second time and it logs in. Not the end of the world, but annoying nonetheless. Any suggestions?

• Help me classify this type of software architecture

  I read some books about software architecture as we are using it in our project but I can't classify the architecture properly. It's some kind of Enterprise Architecture, but what exactly... SOA, ESB (Enterprise Service Bus), Message Bus, Event Driven SOA, there are so many terms in Enterprise software.... The system is based on custom XML messages exchanges between services. (it's not SOAP, nor any other XML based standard, just plain XML). These messages represent notifications (state changes) that are applied to the Domain model, (it's not like CRUD when you serialize the whole domain object, and pass it to service for persistence). The system is centralized, and system participants use different programming languages and frameworks (c++, c#, java). Also, messages are not processed at the moment they are received as they are stored first and the treatment begins on demand. It's called SOA+EDA -:)

I have /etc/postfix/virtual in which i have entered.. @yahoo.com root And 1 more thing...i have user named "vinod" in the mail server...now when i address any mails to "[email protected]"...it works....but when i do "[email protected]"...it gives me error saying...this doesnt exist in the the server...but when i send mails to "[email protected]"...it sends the mails (though it goes into the mail.log as an error entry)...it atleast doesnt stop me from sending it...why is that??

These download ok, but when attempting to install them, the following message is displayed: AN ERROR OCCURRED WHILE OPENING THE ARCHIVE END-OF-CENTRAL-DIRECTORY SIGNATURE NOT FOUND etc....... ZIPINFO: CANNOT FIND ZIPFILE DIRECTORY IN etc...... As I am new to Ubuntu and also fairly "green" as far as computer terminology is concerned, I have no idea what this means and don't have a clue on how to fix it. Can you help please? • Optimistic work sharing on sparsely distributed systems

  What would a system like BOINC look like if it were written today? At the time BOINC was written, databases were the primary choice for maintaining a shared state and concurrency among nodes. Since then, many approaches have been developed for tasking with optimistic concurrency (OT, partial synchronization primitives, shared iterators etc.) Is there an optimal paradigm for optimistically distributing units of work on sparsely distributing systems which communicate through message passing? Sorry if this is a bit vague. P.S. The concept of Tuple-spaces is great, but locking is inherent to its definition. Edit: I already have a federation system which works very well. I have a reactive OT system is implemented on top of it. I'm looking to extend it to get clients to do units of work.
