• Microsoft flexgrid Control : Run-time error '438' Object doesnt support this property or method

  I am maintaining a legacy Microsoft Access application that is using the Microsoft Flexgrid 6.0. It recently started causing the following error: Run-time error '438' Object doesn't support this property or method People say that this error can be caused by the KB960715 security update being applied, which sets killbits on various ActiveX control methods which were deemed a security risk. But this or no other security update has been applied recently. Others say that installing Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Service Pack 6 Cumulative Update will update the flex grid. This requires VB6 to be installed as a prerequisite so I installed that on my PC and then the update, and retrieved the updated MsFlxGrd.ocx file(Version: 6.1.98.12) and copied to the application machine, but the error still prevails. Someone here says you can disable the killbit in the registry. But there are afew hundred nodes in the location they suggest, none of which has the same guid as the one they point out. Any ideas?

  Hi guys, I'm making a website that mail users when a movie or a pc game has released. It isn't too complex - users can sign up, choose movies/music or a genre and save the settings. When the movie/music is released - it mails the user. Some other functionality too but this is the jist. Now, I've been working with Python for a bit but mainly in the area of console apps. For web: what should I use, the web framework Django or the templating engine Mako? I can't seem to decide between the two. :( Thanks

• Multipage WIA scan (docfeeder) scans 1 page and blocks scanner

  Using C# (VS2008) and WIA - scanning to TIFF format; When I use the scanner for 1 page on the flatbed or document feeder the method executes without any problem. When I load multiple forms into the feeder the execution halts after scanning the first page (keeping status: "scanning to pc") but does not scan the next document(s). The method returns the stream of the first page and halts - am able to save the stream and everything; just am lost at what to do next... What statement am I missing? What am I missing here? TIA!

  I have a list of 1,000,000 strings with a maximum length of 256 with protein names. Every string has an associated ID. I have another list of 4,000,000,000 strings with a maximum length of 256 with words out of articles and every word has an ID. I want to find all matches between the list of protein names and the list of words of the articles. Which algorithm should I use? Should I use some prebuild API? It would be good if the algorithm runs on a normal PC without special hardware.

• HTTPHeaders Added to Downloaded File - CocoaHTTPServer???

  In an iPhone app where I use cocoahttpserver and take a sqlite database file from the iPhone and download it with a browser to my PC, when I look at the downloaded file using TextEdit, I see the text (below) at the end of the file. This text has apparently no effect on use of the database file, but I would prefer to not add stuff to the database file at all. Any ideas where this header info is coming from in cocoahttpserver and how to stop it? • ASP.NET What's the best way to produce a trial version for customers to download?

  Hi all, I've written a ASP.NET app that I hope to sell to businesses, I could host the trial but it's designed to connect to the customers data so customers will certainly want to install it to do a successful evaluation. I've never produced anything commercial before so I'm looking for advice on how best to limit the trial, a 30 day trial seems most common, do you simply rely on the clock of the PC/Server they install it on? • How to debug a native Java crash on Linux?

  I've seen this question and this article on how to debug a native Java crash. The article is with respect to Windows. What are the equivalent debugging aids on Linux? That is if I am using the settings for defaultProxy for my Winforms v3.5 application, and set a proxy server address here, exactly where does/can the username/password come from? Or in other words where does the framework source the "default credentials" for a winforms application running on the client PC? <defaultProxy enabled="true|false" useDefaultCredentials="true|false" <bypasslist> … </bypasslist> <proxy> … </proxy> <module> … </module> /> Background - apparently ClickOnce can use this for a client side application, however I'm trying to work out where click once would get this defaultCredential from, for a user who is running the clickonce install for my winforms application.

  FOR RE-OPENING: I don’t see how it is “too localized”. Plenty of people like to run their own web-apps instead of relying on third-party services. If that were not true, then WordPress, phpBB, Apache, PHP, etc. would not be available for general use. As for “Internet audience at large”, I must have missed the part where it was a rule that you are only allowed to ask for help for things that applies to everyone else too; I thought you were allowed to ask for help. Besides, if someone knows of software that fulfills the question, then it is relevant to whomever would download it, and so is not only applicable to an “extraordinarily narrow situation”. (Besides, the reason that I was asking was because Google had announced that it was discontinuing FTP support for Blogger and so many people were affected—read NOT TOO LOCALIZED—and were trying to find alternatives.) Hi, I am trying to find software (for Windows, PHP, MySQL/SQLite/flat, free, open-source) to localize all of my software and service so that I can keep my files and host when needed from my own system instead of some remote computer. I’ve already selected things like web, FTP, and db servers. I’ve chosen forum and wiki software, as well as an RCS system. At this point, all I’m still looking for—actually, I still need to choose bug-tracking software, but besides that—is blogging software. I still use Blogger and am trying to find something that I can use to import my Blogger stuff and store on (and publish to) my home system. I have read of various blogging software including WordPress, MovableType, and TextPattern. The problem is that I am trying to find something that is like Blogger (which from what I can tell is not available on Google Code as open-source). What I specifically need is multiple-blog support. That is, multiple blogs ala the Blogger Dashboard, not multiple user accounts (although that is important as well). The closest thing that I have been able to find is using Wordpress categories to simulate multiple blogs, but that’s not really what I want. I want software that I can run locally that has a multi-blog dashboard like Blogger. Any ideas? Thanks a lot!

• Is there anything RAD comparable to VCL?

  After years in embedded programming, I have to develop a Windows app. I dug out my old C++ Builder and Delphi. These are great and the latest version costs over $1k, so I won't be going there. What I prarticularly like is the VCL (visual component library) which let's me code my own components and share them with others, plus the thousands of existing 3rd party components. I noticed that there is now also a RAD PHP from Borland too. I realzie that MSVC, QT, NetBeans, etc are good enough IDEs for RAD, BUT does anything offer the ease of the Borland products for developing additional components - and does anything else have thousands to choose from? PC based? Cross-platform is good. Browser based? Free is always good ;-) I don't particularly care about the programming language.

• iPad/iPhone HTML5 video loading

  I'm trying to load on the fly on the iPad/iPhone and notice that I cannot place a div above this. I put the overlay in the html so that it's generated on page load and not added via javascript and the video when its created is absolutely positioned below this element. This works on a PC, I'm wondering if since it was created via js that the iPhone OS is overriding the z-index and forcing to the top? Also is there a way to override the default "cannot play icon", the one with the slash, and show a loading animation instead? This would solve my issue via another route. My last option would be to loaded all the video tags via js on page load and have them layered on top of each other for the iPad/iPhone? Since the iPhone OS won't load any video until requested would this work? I also am having an issue with the iPhone and showing the "poster" attribute that is set on the video tag.

  Specifically, I want to have my grails app under development to connect to an Oracle db defiined by an tnsnames.ora file. I have the tnsnames.ora file located in c:\drivers\Network\ on my PC. When I run the grails app via "grails run-war", the db connection string defined in the tnsnames.ora file doesn't seem to be picked up: grails prod run-war -Dserver.port=62215 -Doracle.net.tns_admin=C:\drivers\Netowrk\ It seems the name-value pair of oracle.net.tns_admin is not being passed to the JVM used by the the embedded Tomcat that comes with Grails 1.2.0. If not, what is the proper way of specify it, or pass any JAVA_OPTS to the underlying JVM?

  Hi there. I am developing in Visual Web developer 2008. I have SQLEXPRESS 2005 and SQL Management Studio 2008 installed on my PC. I purchased a Database MS SQL 2008 on DiscountASP.net. Since the host provides only 1 database and my project has 2 database. One is the ASPNETDB that contains the roles and user etc (created using the Website Configuration Wizard) and the other is my database containing data to my website and is named MainDB. As Host allows only 1 database so i exported my ASPNETDB's tables and stored procedures to my MainDB using aspnet_regsql.exe, but the problem is that stored procedures and tables are exported to my MainDB but data is not exported, i mean there are no users in the tables. My Question is how to export everything of ASPNETDB including stored procedures, tables and data to my MainDB??

  I'm having a problem with FlashBuilder in what is clearly a compiler bug, but I can't track it down. I have a file stored on an ftp the URL to it is like this: "ftp://something.etc.etc" It seems that the android browser is unable to handle such links. You receive an error when trying to download the file from my link. Is there a way to download files from an ftp url via the android browser that I am somehow missing? I can download the file in in my PC browser with no issues.

• What is a good method to solve cabal install problems?

  I've used the cabal package manager for Haskell programs to install libraries and new projects that I've cloned from some repositories. More often than not, I keep running into problems. Most projects make installing them seem super easy, but in my case that's not always true - sometimes they are very hard to get running. Some are so hard, in fact, that I've lost interest in the project solely because of not being able to install it. So instead of complaining, I'd like to ask what I should do to better this situation. I'd like to use my most recent problem as an example. I'm interested in trying out the Gitit project. It's a promising looking personal wiki that runs on various version control systems. • linear interpolation on 8bit microcontroller

  I need to do a linear interpolation over time between two values on an 8 bit PIC microcontroller (Specifically 16F627A but that shouldn't matter) using PIC assembly language. Although I'm looking for an algorithm here as much as actual code. I need to take an 8 bit starting value, an 8 bit ending value and a position between the two (Currently represented as an 8 bit number 0-255 where 0 means the output should be the starting value and 255 means it should be the final value but that can change if there is a better way to represent this) and calculate the interpolated value. Now PIC doesn't have a divide instruction so I could code up a general purpose divide routine and effectivly calculate (B-A)/(x/255)+A at each step but I feel there is probably a much better way to do this on a microcontroller than the way I'd do it on a PC in c++ Has anyone got any suggestions for implementing this efficiently on this hardware?

  I have a file named index.php which using a mysql server gets a simple username. The mysql server is running on centOS and I have two different systems running apache serving as web servers. One is my own windows pc using a "wamp" solution which uses the mysql server refereed before and the other is the centOS server itself. I use this so I can develop in my laptop and run the final on the centOS box. The problem is this: Accessing centOS box I get (on hxxp://centos): out_sider 1lu?s 2oi Using wamp on windows I get (on hxxp://localhost): out_sider 1luís 2oi The mysql database is configured correctly seeing that both use the same and I used svn repository to move files from windows to centOS so the file is the same. • ssms cannot connect to default sql server instance without specifying port number

  I have multiple SQL Server 2005 instances on a box. From SSMS on my desktop I can connect to that box's named instances with no problem. After some recent network configuration changes, when I want to connect to the default instance from SSMS on my desktop, I have to specify the port number. Before the network changes, I did not have to specify the port number of the default instance. If I remote to any other box (including the one in question), and use that box's SSMS to connect to that default instance, success. From my desktop, and only from my desktop, I have to specify the port number. Is it a SQL Server configuration that I've missed? Is it possible something in my PC's configuration is getting in the way? Where would I look, or what could I pass on to the network folks to help them resolve this? Any help is appreciated.

  I'm trying to configure automated build of BizTalk 2009 projects using Team Foundation Server 2008. We have a staging server which has BizTalk 2009 installed. I ran the Team Foundation Server Build Setup on this server, and it can build non-BizTalk projects OK. However, BizTalk projects fail to build. I suspected something was amiss when "Deployment" was not a valid build type! I tried copying various things over from a developer PC which has BizTalk and Visual Studio 2008 installed, but still couldn't get it to work. I don't really want to install Visual Studio on the staging server, but without it the "Developer Tools and SDK" option in the BizTalk install is greyed out. I guess I need this in order for BizTalk projects to compile. So, my question is can a BizTalk 2009 server be used as a TFS build agent to build BizTalk projects without having Visual Studio installed. If the answer is no, what's the smallest part of VS that can be installed to get this to work? Thanks in advance.
