  • Alternate way to create a clone of a UNIX System

    THE STORY: (If you don't like to read much, down below is the question :) ) Where I work we have two HP RP2470 servers same hardware same number of hard drives same everything :). One of them is a production server and runs HP-UX 11.00. The poor ba***rd hasn't been turned off for years and now I have to make a clone of it on the other server - just in case, for redundancy. The problem is simple (or not simple) as I have to make the the other server exactly the same. However the old version of OS (UX 11.00 is a history now) and the old software running on it, have made my task almost impossible. On the production server there is also a cloning/recover utility Ignite-UX. I tried many times to create a recovery tape with it. Then when I load the tape on the backup server, it succeeds with the loading of the tape (no errors no warnings) but on the next restart it fails to load the OS :S and drops into HP`s ISL prompt. --- THE QUESTION: Is there an alternate way to create a clone of the Unix System? The environment is: 1. 2x HP RP2470 Servers (non-Intel), same hardware, same number od HDDs (two each of them) same everything. 2. OS running: HP-UX 11.00 The production server has to be cloned without downtime - sadly :( as I hope that they will reconsider on this one For example (like on Windows platforms), if you try to copy an entire HDD with Windows inside on another HDD, and then put that HDD on another PC it will still work, as long as the hardware is the same. Can I do something like that with a Unix system? Can I somehow COPY the contents of the entire HDD, put those on another HDD, and then just load the HDD into the other server? (If you haven't read the story the servers are exactly the same) Will it work? Can it be done with ordinary commands like cp or dump or something like that?     I just started a new Android project, "WeekendStudy" to continue learning Android development and I got stumped compiling the default 'hello weekendstudy' compile / run. I think that I missed a step in configuration and setup, but I am at a loss to find out where. I have an AVD configured, set and launched.     Hello! I have a problem doing commit with sharpsvn. Now i´m adding all the files of my working copy (if the file is added throws an exception), and after it i do commit. It works but it trows exceptions. There is some way to get the status of the repository before do add() and only add the new files or the files who are changed? And if i delete one file or folder on my working copy , How can i delete these files or folder on the repository?   • MSTest: Problems with DeploymentItem attribute

    Hi, I'm currently maintaining an "old" system written in C#.net, removing some obsolete features and doing some refactoring. Thanks god, the previous guy wrote some unit tests (MSTests). I quite comfortable with JUnit tests, but didn't do yet much with MSTests. The test methods have a DeploymentItem attribute, specifying a text file which is parsed by the business logic method that is being tested and a 2nd DeploymentItem where just a path has been specified containing a bunch of TIF files that have to be deployed too. [TestMethod()] [DeploymentItem(@"files\valid\valid_entries.txt")] [DeploymentItem(@"files\tif\")] public void ExistsTifTest() { ... } The tests worked before, but now I had to change the names of the TIF files contained in the \files\tif directory. According to a rule, the TIF filenames have to match a certain pattern which is also checked by the ExistsTifTest() method. Now I had to change the filenames in order to adapt them to the new requirements and suddently the TIF files are no more being deployed as before. Can someone give me a hint why this happens or what may be the cause? The same thing happens also if I add a new text-file say "my2ndTest.txt" beside the "valid_entries.txt" in the \files\valid\ directory with the according DeploymentItem attribute on the test method. The file doesn't get deployed? I got the images now deployed by defining the deployment path directly in the testrunconfig, but I'd like to understand why these things happen or why for instance my new file "my2ndTest.txt" doesn't get deployed while the others do.   • Websphere 7 simple realm (like tomcat-users.xml)

    I am trying to port a J2EE app from Tomcat to Websphere and I'm not too familiar with Websphere. The only problem I am having is authorization (I use basic-authentication in my web.xml). In Tomcat I use the tomcat-users.xml file to define my users/passwords and to what roles they belong. How do I do this "simply" in Websphere? When deploying the EAR to Websphere it also asks me to map my role from web.xml to a user or group. Do I have to set up some sort of realm? Custom user registry? Thanks. UPDATE: I configured a Standalone custom registry, however I can't get a log-in prompt for username/password. It works just fine in Tomcat, and it doesn't in Websphere.   • WCF: Per-Call and Per-Session services...need convincing that Per-Call is worthwhile

    Hello all. We are currently doing a review of our WCF service design and one thing that is bothering me is the decision between Per-Call and Per-Session services. I believe I understand the concept behind both, but I am not really seeing the advantage of Per-Call services. I understand that the motivation for using Per-Call services is that a WCF services only holds a servier object for the life of a call thereby restricting the time that an expensive resource is held by the service instance, but to me its much simpler to use the more OO like Per-Session model where your proxy object instance always corrisponds to the same server object instance and just handle any expensive resources manually. For example, say I have a CRUD Service with Add, Update, Delete, Select methods on it. This could be done as a Per-Call service with database connection (the "expensive resource") instanciated in the server object constructor. Alternately it could be a Per-Session service with a database connection instanciated and closed within each CRUD method exposed. To me it is no different resource wise and it makes the programming model simpler as the client can be assured that they always have the same server object for their proxies: any in-expensive state that there may be between calls is maintained and no extra parameters are needed on methods to identify what state data must be retrieved by the service when it is instanciating a new server object again (as in the case of Per-Call). Its just like using classes and objects, where the same resource management issues apply, but we dont create new object instances for each method call we have on an object! So what am I missing with the Per-Call model? Thanks

    Hi Experts, I just got done with a new Web module built with Spring Framework. Till now I was testing all the pages on my local machine using Tomcat. Today after I moved the application to Websphere, I am getting the following error: Error 404: No target servlet configured for uri is there anything I need to do in web.xml or somewhere? I deployed an EAR file on my WAS , which has another war file. Below is the output I am seeing on the console, if thats any help.     How does one get the value of environment variable whose name contains parentheses in a PowerShell script? To complicate matters, some variables names contains parentheses while others have similar names without parenteses. For example (using cmd.exe): C:\>set | find "ProgramFiles" CommonProgramFiles=C:\Program Files\Common Files CommonProgramFiles(x86)=C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files ProgramFiles=C:\Program Files ProgramFiles(x86)=C:\Program Files (x86) We see that %ProgramFiles% is not the same as %ProgramFiles(x86)%. My PowerShell code is failing in a weird way because it's ignoring the part of the environment variable name after the parentheses. Since this happens to match the name of a different, but existing, environment variable I don't fail, I just get the right value of the wrong variable.     JSR-299 (CDI) introduces the (unfortunately named) concept of a resource: http://docs.jboss.org/weld/reference/1.0.0/en-US/html/resources.html#d0e4373 You can think of a resource in this nomenclature as a bridge between the Java EE 6 brand of dependency injection (@EJB, @Resource, @PersistenceContext and the like) and CDI's brand of dependency injection. The general gist seems to be that somewhere (and this will be the root of my question) you declare what amounts to a bridge class: it contains fields annotated both with Java EE's @EJB or @PersistenceContext or @Resource annotations and with CDI's @Produces annotations. The net effect is that Java EE 6 injects a persistence context, say, where it's called for, and CDI recognizes that injected PersistenceContext as a source for future injections down the line (handled by @Inject). My question is: what is the community's consensus--or is there one--on: what this bridge class should be named where this bridge class should live whether it's best to localize all this stuff into one class or make several of them ...? Left to my own devices, I was thinking of declaring a single class called CDIResources and using that as the One True Place to link Java EE's DI with CDI's DI. Many examples do something similar, but I'm not clear on whether they're "just" examples or whether that's a good way to do it. Thanks.

  • form with multiple upload but allow no upload on edit problems

    hiya i have a section that when created takes in images, however when you edit this item i dont want them to re-upload none changes images just to change a description or name. i have created this that deals with uploading files: public void UploadFiles(string currentFileName, FormCollection form) { // loop through all files in form post foreach (string file in Request.Files) { HttpPostedFileBase hpf = Request.Files[file]; // if no file is uploaded, we could be editing so set to current value if (hpf.ContentLength == 0) { form[file] = currentFileName; } else { //rename the file unique so we dont clash with names var filename = hpf.FileName.Replace(" ", "_").Replace(".", DateTime.Now.Date.Ticks + "."); UploadFileName = filename; hpf.SaveAs(Server.MapPath("~/Content/custom/" + filename)); // set the name of the file in our post to the new name form[file] = UploadFileName; } } // ensure value is still sent when no files are uploaded on edit if(Request.Files.Count <= 0) { UploadFileName = currentFileName; } } all works fine when only one image is required (CurrentFileName), however there is now a new image available taking it to a total of 2 images in the database therefor currentFileName is obsolete. has anyone tackled this and how as i have hit a wall with this one. thought of string[] currentFiles but cant see how to match this into string file in Request.Files. if it helps i am also working with models for the form so i could pass over the model but i dont think your able to do model.file without some kind of reflection. help much appreciated. thanks

  • Out of Core Implementation of a Quadtree

    Hi, I am trying to build a Quadtree data structure(or let's just say a tree) on the secondary memory(Hard Disk). I have a C++ program to do so and I use fopen to create the files. Also, I am using tesseral coding to store each cell in a file named with its corresponding code to store it on the disk in one directory. The problem is that after creating about 1,100 files, fopen just returns NULL and stops creating new files. I can create further files manually in that directory, but using C++ it can not create any further files. I know about max limit of inode on ext3 filesystem which is (from Wikipedia) 32,000 but mine is way less than that, also note that I can create files manually on the disk; just not through fopen. Also, I really appreciate any idea regarding the best way to store a very dynamic quadtree on disk(I need the nodes to be in separate files and the quadtree might have a depth of 50). Using nested directories is one idea, but I think it will slow down the performance because of following the links on the filesystem to access the file. Thanks, Nima
