• WPF 3D - converting from Point2D to Point3D and back again

  I'm new to WPF 3D, so I may just be missing something obvious, but how would I go about converting from a 2D coordinate to a 3D coordinate and back again? I'd like the 2D coordinate to be the location measured from the upper-left corner of Viewport3D and the 3D coordinate to be the location relative to the origin (0, 0, 0) of the 3D world. The conversion functions should have these signatures: public Point3D Point2DAndWorldZToPoint3D(Point2D point2D, double worldZ) // usually I want to know where a 2D point will be on the ground plane // so worldZ will usually be zero (but not always) public Point2D Point3DToPoint2D(Point3D point3D) I found this related question, but it only addresses conversion from 3D to 2D (not the reverse), and I'm not sure if the answers are up-to-date. Note, I'm currently using .NET 3.5, but if there are improvements in .NET 4.0 that would help me, please let me know.

• UISplitViewController programmtically without nib/xib, thank you.

  Hi, I usually create my projects without IB-stuff. The first thing I do is to strip off all references to xibs, outlets updated plist, etc and so forth. No problems, works great (in my world)! Now, I just installed 3.2 and tried to develop my first iPad app. Following same procedure as before, I created a UISplitView-based application project and stripped off all IB-stuff. Also, I followed the section in Apple's reference docs: "Creating a Split View Controller Programmatically", http://bit.ly/axgYAs, but nevertheless, the Master-view is never shown, only the Detail-view is (no matter what the orientation is). I really have tried to carefully look this through but I cannot understand what I have missed. Is there a working example of a UISplitViewController without the nibs floating around somewhere? I have googled but could not find any. Or do you know what I probably have missed? Regards, /Steve PS. Spare me the lesson why I should use the IB ;-) DS.

  Given a Django model likeso: from django.db import models class MyModel(models.Model): textfield = models.TextField() How can one automatically compress textfield (e.g. with zlib) on save() and decompress it when the property textfield is accessed (i.e. not on load), with a workflow like this: m = MyModel() textfield = "Hello, world, how are you?" m.save() # compress textfield on save m.textfield # no decompression id = m.id() m = MyModel.get(pk=id) # textfield still compressed m.textfield # textfield decompressed I'd be inclined to think that you would overload MyModel.save, but I don't know the pattern for in-place modification of the element when saving. I also don't know the best way in Django to decompress when the field when it's accessed (overload __getattr__?). Or would a better way to do this be to have a custom field type? I'm certain I've seen an example of almost exactly this, but alas I've not been able to find it recently. Thank you for reading – and for any input you may be able to provide.

  Hi all: This is uni homework so sorry about :my password protected url Please enter usersame as "uts" and password as "10479475", without the wrapper quotes. It it almost completed, please follow simple steps to see where my problem dwells: step1: click on any continent highlighted on world map; step2: click on any city marked on continent map; step3: enter quantity ranging from 1 to 6 into the upper-right table; step4 : there you go, in the table below, once row is equal or greater than 3, then the size of table starts to "overlap" on top of the footer section and continues to grow, which is not what I want. I want to achieve the effect that the table size has a limited max-height, so once actual height exceeds the threshold, then I can have a vertical scroll bar so to "stack up" my table and not to break the overall structure. It turns out that my lazy initial design now gets myself stuck in a problem... Any suggestion and hint on how to get this?

  I am having a hard time consuming a very simple (Hello World) WCF web service in my iPhone app. From what I have read, you must manually create the request message then send it to the web service URL. I was able to accomplish this on a .asmx web service, but not with a WCF service. How do I know the correct format of the request SOAP message? The web service I am trying to hit has a format of: http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:PORT/IService1/ (running locally in a VM) I apologize for the lack of information, I am pretty lost.   I converted a local sound file to a resource, which built this in my XAML: <UserControl.Resources> <my:Uri x:Key="SoundFiles">file:///c:/Audio/HebrewDemo/Shalom.wav</my:Uri> </UserControl.Resources> I did this by pasting a local disk mp3 filename into source, then clicked on the "dot" by source and chose "Extract Value to Resource". When I run, it tells me that "Uri" is not valid, and sure enough, in the Intellisense, I see other elements that start with "uri" but not just URI by itself. In the real world I want to specify a dynamic mp3 file name. For example, I might have a database of foreign language words used for flashcards, I want to play a sound file on a URL. But I thought I would try to walk before running...

So i figured that i have to test the function getEventById on a different way. But I don't understand how. What this function does it just cals a resource and returns the event by id.

  I need to programmatically generate an RTF document with a table that has a column vertically merged., e.x. ______________________________ | merged | foo | hello | | cell | | | | right |--------|----------| | here | bar | world | |_________|________|__________| I looked up online and found that the codes are \clvmgf and \clvmrg but I can't find a decent example. I made a text rtf using MS word, but there's too much junk rtf codes in it for me to figure it out where to put the \clvmgf and \clvmrg to get this to work. Could someone give me an rtf for above example table with no extraneous rtf codes so I can figure out how \clvmgf and \clvmrg works? Any additional explanation would also be greatly appreciated. • Where are the Entity Framework t4 templates for Data Annotations?

  I have been googling this non stop for 2 days now and can't find a single complete, ready to use, fully implemented t4 template that generates DataAnnotations. Do they even exist? I generate POCOs with the standard t4 templates. The actual database table has metadata that describes some of the validation rules, eg not null, nvarchar(25), etc. So all I want is a t4 template that can take my table and generate a POCO with DataAnnotations, eg public class Person { [Required] [StringLength(255)] public FirstName {get;set} } It is a basic and fundamental requirement, surely I can not be the first person in the entire world to have this requirement? I don't want to re-invent the wheel here. Yet I haven't found it after search high and low for days. This must be possible (and hopefully must be available somewhere to just download) - it would be criminally wrong to have to manually type in these annotations when the metadata for them already exists in the database.

  When talking about a stack in either computing or "real" life we usually assume a "first on, last off" type of functionality. Because the idea of a stack is based around something in the physical world, does it matter how the data in the stack is stored? I notice in a lot of examples that the storage of the stack data is quite often done using an array and the newest item added to the stack is placed at the bottom of the array. (like adding a new plate to an existing stack of plates except putting it underneath the other plates rather than on top). As a paradigm, does it matter in what order the data is stored within the stack as long as the operation of the stack acts as expected?

  Hi there. I'm taking my first steps in to the world of Wicket. I've set up a login form and a logout page. The logout page looks like this: public class LogoutPage extends WebPage { public LogoutPage(final PageParameters pageParams) { getSession().invalidate(); setResponsePage(getApplication().getHomePage()); } } When a user clicks the Logout link they're redirected to the homepage, so far so good. The problem is that when a user tries to click on any of the navigatable Link's they get a "Page Expired" message. I'd like to log the user out gracefully and allow the user to continue to browse the website without receiving the "Page Expired" message. Any help is greatly appreciated. By the way, I've tried to follow the Wicket examples but they seem to be using org.apache.wicket.authentication and I haven't figured out how to make this available to my project (I'm using eclipse and maven2).

• How do I use local memory in OpenCL?

  I've been playing with OpenCL recently, and I'm able to write simple kernels that use only global memory. Now I'd like to start using local memory, but I can't seem to figure out how to use get_local_size() and get_local_id() to compute one "chunk" of output at a time. For example, let's say I wanted to convert Apple's OpenCL Hello World example kernel to something the uses local memory. How would you do it? Here's the original kernel source: __kernel square( __global float *input, __global float *output, const unsigned int count) { int i = get_global_id(0); if (i < count) output[i] = input[i] * input[i]; } If this example can't easily be converted into something that shows how to make use of local memory, any other simple example will do.   I have a project I'm working on and this seems like the simplest thing in the world, but the +[NSURL fileURLWithPath:] factory method is returning a strange URL. I created an empty sample project to isolate the problem and in my app delegate's applicationDidFinishLaunching: method I have this simple code: NSString *path = [@"~/Documents" stringByExpandingTildeInPath]; NSURL *url = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:path]; NSLog(@"%@ | %@", path, url); and the NSLog result looks like this: /Users/myusername/Documents | file://localhost/Users/myusername/Documents/ when I would expect the URL to be file:///Users/myusername/Documents. Any thoughts on why this is behaving like this? (10.6.3 in case it matters.)

However, the Silverlight version does not!   I experiment with a lot of open source software and I've noticed a fair amount of server type applications in the open source world use libevent to facilitate event-based processing rather than spawn multiple threads to handle requests. I also do a lot of .NET programming (it's my core job function), and I'm interested in learning how libevent relates to the .NET event model. Are events in .NET the equivalent of libevent for C programs? Should I try to learn libevent and attempt to use it in custom .NET server applications or is using the standard .NET event model basically the same thing?

• Database Design for a double entry accounting system

  Should journal entries be recorded in a database design? In the real world it makes sense to keep a daily entry book, then later transfer the daily entry book into double entry accounts. but in the computerized version, doing this produces duplicate records and that doesn't quite make sense? ???? What i mean is 1) user enter details , it gets recorded (this would be called the journalbook in real life) 2) the software does all the double entry accounting then references the journalbook and splits up the transaction into the double entry accounting system.

  Hello all, I have read through all relevant posts on Prawn but found no mentioning (even in Prawn's own documentation) of headers and footers. However, I did see a demo on Prawnto's own website about headers and footers. I copied the entire source of that demo just to see if it works but an error of undefined method "header" is complained about. Am I to understand that Prawn took out header and footer recently in the gem or is there something else I need to do first to use header and footer?   Hi, As our new web app gets more complicated, so the need for help docs increases. I am not talking about documenting code, I am literally talking about application help. So myapp/help, or for example, enabling context help from a particular point in the app with a link such as myapp/help/users/create/ etc. Are there apps out there for doing this? For example, Wufoo use wordpress for http://wufoo.com/docs/ which I like (and understand wp, so its a nice solution), and Xero have a lovely ASPX http://help.xero.com/ interface. But I'm thinking there might be more dedicated implementations for what I'm looking for. We're on a linux, apache, postgresql, php stack, but a mysql supported installation is not the end of the world. Does anyone have any suggestions for this? It's a bit of a minefield when googling php + help + system.

I have been trying to figure out RecursiveIterator and IteratorAggregate, but I am having a difficult time finding real world examples that are generic enough to really wrap my head around these classes. Can someone give me a head start?
