    I'm trying to get vga_switcheroo to enable my integrated Intel HD 3000 instead of my ATI card.   • Avoiding background and main menu reloads (white flash) when users navigate my site?

    Not a major problem, but I would like to understand more about how some websites can serve different pages to a navigating user, such that the browser doesn't visibly pass through a blank white page. Whereas some sites cause the browser to display the white page for up to a few seconds. I can imagine this is partly due to network latency, but are there any other factors? Can I cause the background image / color not to flash white?

  • Sending login form to an open-mesh acess point for authentication with my own RADIUS server

    I have my RADIUS server up and running and a custom external captive portal. But I'm not sure: what information should I send to the Open-Mesh AP with my login form (it is necessary to encrypt the password?, because if I don't use a secret word to encrypt in my network configuration the RADIUS server complaints about it and in the log shows me some strange characters in the password) I don't know what to do with the "challenge" and "md" parameters in my login splash page.   • Can't access some websites using Ubuntu 13.10

    Something's wrong with Ubuntu. Since I've upgraded to 13.10, I can't access some websites for no apparent reason. I've tried everything imaginable to solve this problem : Made sure that MTUs are the same, Disabled IPv6 in both the network manager and used browsers, Deactivated my network keys, DMZed my computer, Used other DNS like Google and OpenDNS, Checked that no firewall was running my computer ... And it's the same result. I even tried to reinstall Ubuntu a couple of times, but no luck. The most annoying thing about it is I can't access wordpress.org! So, there's no way it could be an ISP restriction of some kind. When I use a VPN, I can access pretty much anything. I'm really frustrated because I have to use wordpress.org very often.   • Ubuntu 13.10 - Wifi not re-connecting after suspend

    I upgraded the other day from Ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10 on my ZaReason laptop, and the WiFi doesn't reconnect after suspend. In 13.04, pressing Fn+F2 turned network connections back on after suspend. The 'soft' wireless hardware switch. But in 13.10, that doesn't work, and trying to enable networking in the networking menu doesn't work either. So I have to restart every time. Any suggestions to make it work?

    i've been searching the forums for two days now but none of the answers seems to work for me. I have an acer extensa 5630 which has an Intel WIfi 5100. But even when i am right next to my router i cannot detect the wireless network. The weird thing is, that when i create a hotspot from my mobile phone it automatically detects it and connects to it.I think i do have the correct drivers installed. Thanks

    The Ubuntu 11.10 PC resets resolv.conf on each boot, only with a comment remaining. How do I fix this by setting the persistent storage? It was tinkered by somebody else and I (and him!) cant trace his actions. The graphical connection manager also refuses to work thanks to the tinkering.     I would like to improve the TOR network, where the exit nodes are a vulnerability to concealing traffic. From my understanding, traffic to .onion sites are not decrypted by exit nodes, so therefore - in theory - a .onion site web proxy could be used to further anonymize traffic. Yes/no? perhaps you have insight into the coding and routing behind these concepts to elaborate on why this is a good/not good idea.

    If you have been living under a rock for the past year, you wouldn't have heard about cloud computing. Cloud computing is a loose term that describes anything that is hosted in data centers and accessed via the internet. It is normally associated with developers who draw clouds in diagrams indicating where services or how systems communicate with each other. Cloud computing also incorporates such well-known trends as Web 2.0 and Software as a Service (SaaS) and more recently Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS). Its aim is to change the way we compute, moving from traditional desktop and on-premises servers to services and resources that are hosted in the cloud.  Benefits of Cloud Computing  There are clearly benefits in building applications using cloud computing, some of which are listed here:  Zero up- front investment:  Delivering a large-scale system costs a fortune in both time and money. Often IT departments are split into hardware/network and software services. The hardware team provisions servers and so forth under the requirements of the software team. Often the hardware team has a different budget that requires approval. Although hardware and software management are two separate disciplines, sometimes what happens is developers are given the task to estimate CPU cycles, disk space, and so forth, which ends up in underutilized servers.  Usage-based costing:  You pay for what you use, no more, no less, because you never actually own the server. This is similar to car leasing, where in the long run you get a new car every three years and maintenance is never a worry.  Potential for shrinking the processing time:  If processes are split over multiple machines, parallel processing is performed, which decreases processing time.  More office space:  Walk into most offices, and guaranteed you will find a medium- sized room dedicated to servers.  Efficient resource utilization:  The resource utilization is handed by a centralized cloud administrator who is in charge of deciding exactly the right amount of resources for a system. This takes the task away from local administrators, who have to regularly monitor these servers.  Just-in-time infrastructure:  If your system is a success and needs to scale to meet demand, this can cause further time delays or a slow- performing service. Cloud computing solves this because you can add more resources at any time.  Lower environmental impact:  If servers are centralized, potentially an environment initiative is more likely to succeed. As an example, if servers are placed in sunny or windy parts of the world, then why not use these resources to power those servers?  Lower costs:  Unfortunately, this is one point that administrators will not like. If you have people administrating your e-mail server and network along with support staff doing other cloud-based tasks, this workforce can be reduced. This saves costs, though it also reduces jobs.
