• WiX, how to prevent files from uninstalling though we forgot to set Permanent="yes"

  We have a product installer created with Wix, containing a program package ("V1") and some configuration files. Now, we are going to make a major upgrade with a new product code, where the old version of the product is uninstalled and "V2" is installed. What we want is to save one of the configuration files from uninstalling, since it is needed for the V2, too. Unfortunately, we forgot to set the Permanent="yes" option when we delivered V1 (read this question for more information). Here comes the question: is there an easy way of preventing the uninstall of the file anyhow? Of course, we could add a custom action to the script to backup the file before uninstallation, and another custom action to restore it afterwards, but IMHO that seems to be overkill for this task, and might interfere with other parts of the MSI registration process.

• Looking for a good Dynamic Imaging Solution

  I work for a small E-Commerce shop and we are looking for a process that will handle resizing our product images dynamically. Currently our designers take high resolution photos, either provided by the manufactures or created in house, and alter them to fit various pages on our site. The designers are constantly resizing, cropping, altering compression levels, etc., of each product photo to fit the needs of the business. Being that our product line is updated frequently, this becomes a monotonous task. Abobe Scene7 does exactly what we are looking to do and the images are served up from a CDN. Unfortunately we found it to be too expensive. I'm curious to learn how others handle this process at their organizations. Does anyone know of any good 3rd party tools or other SAAS providers that can handle performing some basic image manipulation and serving them on the fly?

• What is the best way to convince management that virtualization isn't always appropriate in producti

  I work for a small company with a .NET product that was acquired by a medium sized company with "big iron" products. Recently, the medium-sized part of the company acquired another small company with a similar .NET product and management went to have a look at their technology. They make heavy use of virtualization in their production environment and it's been decided that we will too. Our product was not designed to be run in a virtual environment, but some accommodations can be made. For instance; there are times when we're resource bound due to customer initiated processes. This initiation is "bursty" by nature, but the processing can be made asynchronous and throttled. This is something that would need to be done for scalability anyway. But there is other processing that we do that isn't so easily modified because we're resource bound for extended periods of time. How do I convince management that heavy use of virtualization is probably not appropriate for us?

  I am generating a matrix report dynamically using report viewer version 9.0 in visual studio 2010. If i export save and print then it works normally. If there more columns report expands horizontally across mutiple pages. If i give Print option available in the toolbar of the report viewer. The columns are moved to second page which is correct but the row headers (product 1, product 2) should not be repeated in the second page.In the second page report should have all details except the product information. I am also interested to know whether it is the functionality of this version report viewer.

• How to programatically read native DLL imports in C#?

  The large hunk of C# code below is intended to print the imports of a native DLL. I copied it from from this link and modified it very slightly, just to use LoadLibraryEx as Mike Woodring does here. I find that when I call the Foo.Test method with the original example's target, MSCOREE.DLL, it prints all the imports fine. But when I use other dlls like GDI32.DLL or WSOCK32.DLL the imports do not get printed. What's missing from this code that would let it print all the imports as, for example, DUMPBIN.EXE does? (Is there a hint I'm not grokking in the original comment that says, "using mscoree.dll as an example as it doesnt export any thing"?) Now I'm dealing with menus and submenus What I'm trying to do is, if the user picks "About Us" from the main menu, under the about us page I want to display a submenu with the options "who we are, what we do, contact us" If the user picks "Our Products" from the main menu, then under the products page I want to display a submenu with the options "product 1, product 2, product 3" Is this possible with only one master page? I read something about menu control but not sure that is what I need. So far I found how to display a sitemap, but not specific sections of a sitemap, if this is the way to do things.   I'm trying come up with the best method of synchronizing particular rows of 2 different database tables. So, for example there's 2 product tables in different databases as such... Origin Database product{ merchant_id, product_id, ... additional fields } Destination Database product{ merchant_id product_id ... additional fields } So, the database schema is the same for both. However I'm looking to select records with a particular merchant_id, remove all records from the destination table that have that merchant_id and replace those records with records from the origin database of the same merchant_id. My first thought was using mysqldump, parsing out the create table statements, and only running the Insert Statements. Seems like a pain though. So I was wondering if there is a better technique to do this. I would think mysql has some method of creating INSERT statements as output from a SELECT statement, so you can define how to insert specific record information into a new db. Any help would be appreciated, thank you much.

So I have following db structure : Now I need to perform a query that takes category_id from my product and do the magic : - let's say product belongs to console (category_id is in table Console) - from console_types take type_id, where category_id == category_id - but if product belongs to console_game (category_id is in table console_game) - from console_game take game_cat_id, where category_id == category_id I'm not sure if mysql is capable of such thing. If not I'm really f&%ranked up. Maybe there is a way to split this into 2,3 separate queries ?

  How can I interact with objects I've created based on their given attributes in Ruby? To give some context, I'm parsing a text file that might have several hundred entries like the following: ASIN: B00137RNIQ -------------------------Status Info------------------------- Upload created: 2010-04-09 09:33:45 Upload state: Imported Upload state id: 3 I can parse the above with regular expressions and use the data to create new objects in a "Product" class: class Product attr_reader :asin, :creation_date, :upload_state, :upload_state_id def initialize(asin, creation_date, upload_state, upload_state_id) @asin = asin @creation_date = creation_date @upload_state = upload_state @upload_state_id = upload_state_id end end After parsing, the raw text from above will be stored in an object that look like this: [#<Product:0x00000101006ef8 @asin="B00137RNIQ", @creation_date="2010-04-09 09:33:45 ", @upload_state="Imported ", @upload_state_id="3">] How can I then interact with the newly created class objects? For example, how might I pull all the creation dates for objects with an upload_state_id of 3? I get the feeling I'm going to have to write class methods, but I'm a bit stuck on where to start.

So I guess this is where Prefix would come in but I don't know how to use it. Nor how do I use it and Exclude at the same time. Can someone give me an example?

  I have been taken in to provide some seo guidance on a website which has been running since 2005. My problem is i want to use clean urls. The code that handles the url is hidden away in some class file.. and with over a few thousand lines of code its a struggle to rewrite it. So I'm think, I have gone through all the products and created a slug for them as a field in the product table. Is it possible to do something like an intermediate file for htaccess. Some thing like 1./clean-slug-comes-in/ 2.htaccess catches this and uses slug.php to find the relevant product id for the slug. 3.Then product.php?id=(ID.found.from.2) is loaded?

• jQuery getting these functions to work together

The one function is submitHandler and its used to hide a form and at the same time add a class to a hidden element to unhide it - ie a thank you for submitting h1. • Big table or multiple separate tables? (database design question)

  This is a database design question. I want to build an invoice web application, an invoice can have many items, and each user can have an inventory list of product items that they can store and choose to add to an invoice item. My questions are: 1. Should I store all product inventory for all users using my application under one single table? Or have a separate product inventory table created for each user? 2. Is this even possible? 1 table is easier, but what if this single table grows too big, will I have a problem? (primary key INT).
