• Using :limit and :order in the associated model

  Hello, Is there any way i can limit the results of an associated model?   I don't know why it happens but my form for some reason does not post properly. This is not what I want (atleast not what I think I want), since comments must always be related to users and article, how can I get a route like so new_user_article_comment edit_user_article_comment Then I could just do new_user_article_comment_path([@user, @article]) to create a new comment

My question is, how to use BDD with private methods? How can I unit test private methods? Is there better solution than: - making private methods public first and then making them private when I write public method that uses those private methods; or - in C# making all private methods internal and using InternalsVisibleTo attribute. • Commenting out protect_from_forgery

  Hi, I was trying to use active record store but I kept getting an invalid authenticity token. Someone told me to remove my protect_from_forgery from application controller. I know that this would remove all auth tokens but I'm not sure if this is a good idea. Does active record store not need auth tokens? By the way, all I need is a way to dynamically calculate the number of users online and their session variables. If there is a better way than using active record store it would be nice to know.

• Super inplace controls in_place_select displays incorrectly

  I'm using the super_inplace_controls plugin to allow users to edit fields on the "show" page. However, I'm running into an issue with the in_place_select function. Here is my view: <p> <b>Status:</b> <%= in_place_select :incident, :incident_status, :choices => @statuses.map { |e| [e.name, e.id] } %> </p> This is in the 'Incident' view. IncidentStatus is a separate table that has_many Incidents. In the Incident controller, I retrieve @statuses like so: @statuses = IncidentStatus.find(:all) Everything works fine for the in_place_select, except the original display. In my browser, it shows: Status: #<IncidentStatus:0x1033147d8> Which means it's not grabbing the current incident_status.name, but it's just changing the object to a string. I'm not sure how to fix this! When I click on the "IncidentStatus:0x1033147d8", everything works properly and I can select the proper fields. Thanks for any help!

• xvfb on a machine with a display, can an application run 'in the background?'

  I'm setting up to cron a web scraping job, using xvfb, firefox, and watir on my Mac OS X. In testing the script so far, firefox pops up visibly on the local desktop, the watir script executes, and then firefox exits (I quit firefox in my script). I'd like to set the xvfb DISPLAY such that firefox will run, but won't be seen on the local desktop, running 'in the background' so to speak. Nothing I've been able to find online discusses such a possibility - nor explains that it's not possible. Is it possible? If so, what do I need to do to make it work?

• Sorcery/Capybara: Cannon log in with :js => true

  I've been using capybara for a while, but I'm new to sorcery. I have a very odd problem whereby if I run the specs without Capybara's :js = true functionality I can log in fine, but if I try to specify :js = true on a spec, username/password cannot be found. Here's the authentication macro: module AuthenticationMacros def sign_in user = FactoryGirl.create(:user) user.activate! visit new_sessions_path fill_in 'Email Address', :with => user.email fill_in 'Password', :with => 'foobar' click_button 'Sign In' user end end Which is called in specs like this: feature "project setup" do include AuthenticationMacros background do sign_in end scenario "creating a project" do "my spec here" end The above code works fine. However, IF I change the scenario spec from (in this case) scenario "adding questions to a project" do to scenario "adding questions to a project", :js => true do login fails with an 'incorrect username/password' combination. Literally the only change is that :js = true. I'm using the default capybara javascript driver. (Loads up Firefox) Any ideas what could be going on here? I'm completely stumped. I'm using Capybara 2.0.1, Sorcery 0.7.13. There is no javascript on the sign in page and save_and_open_page before clicking 'sign in' confirms that the correct details are entered into the username/password fields. Any suggestions really appreciated - I'm at a loss.

  I just deployed to a cluster server, and my delayed_jobs recipe was overwritten in the process. I solved that, delayed_jobs is up and running but can't find the ID of images that are uploaded. Anyone know where I could poke and pry from here? UPDATE: I created a clone application on a single server. And there are no problems. The images on the cluster do show up (occassionally). If I keep clicking on the folders that lead to photos, it will 50% of the time return a 404 with it not being able to find the photo, and the other half it will present the photo. So the problem has got to be with the server interaction between the ActiveRecord through multiple servers.

• Initialize child models at model creation

  I have a model Entree which belongs to a model Vin, which itself belongs to a model Producteur. On the form for Entree creation/edition, I want to allow the user to define the attributes for parent Vin and Producteur to create them, or retrieve them if they exist (retrieval based on user input). For now I do the following in Entree new and edit actions: @entree = Entree.new @entree.vin = Vin.new @entree.vin.producteur = Producteur.new and use fields_for helper in the form,and that works. But I intend to have much more dependencies with more models, so I want to keep it DRY. I defined a after_initialize callback in Vin model which does the producteur initialization: class Vin < ActiveRecord::Base after_initialize :vin_setup def vin_setup producteur = Producteur.new end end and remove the producteur.new from the controller. However, get an error on new action: undefined method `model_name' for NilClass:Class for the line in the form that says <%= fields_for @entree.vin.producteur do |producteur| %> I guess that means the after_initialize callback doesn't act as I expect it. Is there something I'm missing? Also, I get the same error if I define a after_initialize method in the Vin model instead of definiing a callback.

Using watir, i can select the first dropdown, and when i watch it, the second one becomes active, but it cannot select it. i just tried the regular select_list using name and id.   In my edit.haml file, I have =render :partial => 'old_question_tags', :locals => {:current_question => @question.id}. I'd like to pass the value in :current_question to a link_to_remote call in _old_question_tags.haml: #{link_to_remote image_tag('red-x.png', {:alt => "Remove #{t.name} tag"}), :url => {:action => 'remove_old_tag_from_question', :tag_remove => t.id, :current_question => current_question}} But I get this error on the link_to_remote line: ActionView::TemplateError (undefined local variable or method `current_question' for #<ActionView::Base:0xdb2fec8>) In _old_question_tags.haml, if I just print current_question (using =current_question), it prints the number without any problems. How do I properly pass that value to the partial so that I can pass it to the link_to_remote call?

• Problem with Juggernaut and transparent wmode in Adobe AIR

  Hi, I am trying to use juggernaut in Adobe AIR application, however the big issue with this is that the juggernaut flash file should have wmode parameter set to 'transparent'. This is a bit of a problem for juggernaut because it seems that it doesn't work with that parameter included. The interesting part is that it is working under Linux on all browsers and in air application, but on Windows it's working only with Safari all other browsers including the AIR application are not even connecting to the juggernaut server. So the question is, what is the cause of this and if anyone had similar problem I would be interested to hear about solutions or workarounds. Thanks, Peco

  I have an app where there is always a current contest (defined by start_date and end_date datetime). Organization.update_all(:votes_count => 0) Contest.create(:start_date => @contest_last.end_date.utc, :end_date => Time.now.utc + 10.minutes) end end My questions: 1) I would like to change the :end_date to something that signifies next Sunday at a certain time (eg. next Sunday at 8pm). Similarly, I could then set the :start_date to to the previous Sunday at a certain time. I saw that there is a sunday() class (http://api.rubyonrails.org/classes/Time.html#method-i-sunday), but not sure how to specify a certain time on that day. 2) For this situation of always wanting the current contest, is there a better way of loading it in the app? Would caching it be better and then reloading if a new one is created? Not sure how this would be done, but seems to be more efficient. Thanks!
