• Recursive TreeView in ASP.NET

  I have an object of type list from which I wish to use to populate a treeview in asp.net c#. Each object item has: id | Name | ParentId so for example: id | Name | ParentId ------------------------- 1 | Alice | 0 2 | Bob | 1 3 | Charlie | 1 4 | David | 2 In the above example, the parent would be Alice having two children Bob and Charlie. David is the child of Bob. I have had many problems trying to dynamically populate the treeview recursively in c# ASP.NET Does any one have a simple solution? Btw: you can use People.Id, People.Name and People.ParentId to access the members since it is an object belonging to list. I can post you my code so far (many attempts made) but not sure how useful it will be.

• html newsletter email arriving as an attachment

  Hello, I'm using C# to send email newsletters for subscribers. There's no problem with sending the email but some email clients like outlook and hotmail receive html newsletter as an attachment and the email body contains only plaintext with html tags removed and some clients like gmail receive the email just fine. What actually creates this behavior? If i put just few html tags in to message outlook and hotmail shows the newsletter fine but as i put in more html elements my mail arrives as attachment. I've been trying to find out how to make my email appear ok in most popular email clients like outlook but have had no success so far. Anyone care to enlighten me how this email + html stuff actually works?

• Printing a PDF in .NET

  It's the "printing question guy" again. Looking for a third-party solution to print PDFs, preferable from a service. I have seen some arguments against it, but due to our use case, this really is the preferred solution - the service will be receiving messages from a messaging bus, and there shouldn't be any sort of delay between the receipt of that message and the printing of the report. So far, I've found 1 solution from PDF Tools that seems very nice, and very flexible. The problem is that it's licensed per server. If anyone knows of any third-party solutions that have a seat license (per developer, unlimited runtime distribution), that would be much preferred. EDIT: Clarification, by printing, I mean sending the PDF to a printer.

  I encounter this problem repeatedly, and haven't a clue what is causing it. I get an exception in the DataBind: "SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items". Here are some important pieces of information: 1) I reload listOrgs periodically when the underlying data has changed. 2) The Organization.DTListAll call returns about 500 Int, String pairs. 3) There are no duplicate or null values in the returned data 4) After the first two lines below, listOrgs.Items.Count is 0, and the Selected Value is 0 5) The selected value when the DataBind operation executes is a value that is not in the set of ID values returned 6) All of the stuff I have found on line so far hasn't helped. 7) I am stumped! listOrgs.Items.Clear(); listOrgs.SelectedValue = "0"; listOrgs.DataSource = new Organization().DTListAll(SiteID); listOrgs.DataTextField = "OrganizationName"; listOrgs.DataValueField = "OrganizationID"; listOrgs.DataBind(); Bob Jones

  Hi All, I am trying to acquaint myself on Mysql syntax. I only have used MSSQL so far. • Is there any er diagram tool in Windows that I can use to connect to a MySQL 4.1 database in Unix?

  I have a few test databases in some Unix SUSE 8 servers and initially the plan was to find some tools which can directly create the ERD straight from the server until someone told me that I can find tools to connect from the Windows PC straight to the Unix MySQL database. So I saw MySQL query analyzer which can do this but unfortunately there are no options to create an ERD. So are there any tools, preferably open source or free which can do this? I've done some basic googling but didn't know what is the exact terms to use to search for this and have so far found nothing useful yet. Updates: I just found out that the latest version of workbench doesn't work MySQL 4.1 Enterprise Edition which is the version that I have! And I try to use fabFORCE DBDesigner but I can't even connect at all using that one :( What can work for this version of MySQL?

• free geolocation geoip, are they viable?

  I'm trying to get a visitor's location based on their IP, pretty common stuff. My research so far shows that there's a database from MaxMind that costs $370 + $90/month... not the type of cost I can afford. Then there's a free version called GeoLite City. Anyone used these before? Drop a quick line here please. Why is one free and the answer so expensive. Is the free one usable, is it not as accurate, what's the catch? P.S. Any other suggestions are welcome.

I've seen FlexMojo but it uses the GraniteDS generator wich create some problems when it comes to map Enum objects (wich can be fix through a workaround that is describe here : http://dev.c-ware.de/confluence/display/PUBLIC/Flexmojos+generated+AS3+model+with+Enum+support+using+BlazeDS?focusedCommentId=7634946&#comment-7634946 if you've googled your way here this might be useful) when working with BlazeDS. Everything that i found so far are people who explain how to generate VO classes on flex side using Flash Builder 4, but this solution can not be used in an industrial developpement environnement.   Here is my simplified model: class Item(models.Model): pass class TrackingPoint(models.Model): item = models.ForeignKey(Item) created = models.DateField() data = models.IntegerField() In many parts of my application I need to retrieve a set of Item's and annotate each item with data field from latest TrackingPoint from each item ordered by created field. For example, instance i1 of class Item has 3 TrackingPoint's: tp1 = TrackingPoint(item=i1, created=date(2010,5,15), data=23) tp2 = TrackingPoint(item=i1, created=date(2010,5,14), data=21) tp3 = TrackingPoint(item=i1, created=date(2010,5,12), data=120) I need a query to retrieve i1 instance annotated with tp1.data field value as tp1 is the latest tracking point ordered by created field. That query should also return Item's that don't have any TrackingPoint's at all. If possible I prefer not to use QuerySet's extra method to do this. That's what I tried so far... and failed :( Item.objects.annotate(max_created=Max('trackingpoint__created'), data=Avg('trackingpoint__data')).filter(trackingpoint__created=F('max_created')) Any ideas?

• Django Caught an exception while rendering: No module named registration

  I seem to have run into a bit of an issue. I am busy creating an app, and over the last few weeks setup my server to use Git, mod_wsgi to host this app. Since deploying it, everything seems to be running smoothly however, I had to go through all my files and insert the absolute url of the project to make sure it works fine. on my local machine from registration.models import UserRegistration on server from myapp.registration.models import UserRegistration Am I doing something wrong? And this has also caused an issue for me where I cannot access my django admin interface. All i get is this: Caught an exception while rendering: No module named registration Exception Value: Caught an exception while rendering: No module named registration As far as I am concerned my app has all the relevant urls, but it does not seem to work.   Hi Iam trying to use log4post sharp for logging purposes, As far as Iam aware I have followed the instructions to get this up and running, I have not installed postsharp, rather I got the library files and midified my cs proj file to target those file, I have also tried installing postsharp on my machine. In either case I end up with this error Error 5 The plug-in "Log4PostSharp" required by the type "Log4PostSharp.LogAttribute" was not found. I have tried googling this and it seems there is no trace of this issue anywhere on the web. One difference between my implementation with other examples is that the postsharp dll that they use is PostSharp.public, mine is just PostSharp. I have tried searching for the former dll but cannot find it anywhere, the download only contains PostSharp.dll. I feel this may be the issue as I have followd all the insturctions to the letter to get this up and running. Any Ideas People?

• Entity Framework - Using a lookup (picklist) table with a lookup key

  I'm working on a WPF application that is working well using the Entity Framework (3.5 SP1) for complicated table structures. The problem now is I want to get a list from the EF that includes lookups into a picklist table that has multiple picklists in it. In SQL I would write a sub select as such: SELECT Name, (Select typeName from PickLists where type_id = items.type_id and picklist_key=333) as Type_desc FROM Items There are no Foreign keys for this, and the picklists table is never updated using the EF, so it is read only as far as the EF is concerned. I'm not sure the best method to put this into the model if at all. I'm displaying in a read-only datagrid on a dashboard. Thanks!

• I need git-svn to act as a Subversion v1.5+ client

  I'm running git 1.7 on Mac OSX, installed via Homebrew. I'm trying to use git svn to work with a Subversion server that requires Subversion 1.5 clients (a restriction enforced via a pre-commit hook.) Running git svn --version reveals that as far as git is concerned, git svn is equivalent to svn v1.4.4. I can't establish whether git svn is a total clone of subversion, and thus needs to be updated to meet subversion v1.5 functionality, or if git is compiled against or just points to some version of subversion under the hood. I've struggled finding anyone else trying to upgrade the version of git-svn, and I'm guessing this client version restriction is unusual, but I'm stuck with it (corporate environment.) Is it possible to have git operate as svn 1.5?

  HI, I started implementing a HTML Browser in Swing. I want to use the Lobo Cobra toolkit because this toolkit inclused a renderer and parser for CSS and JavaScript. The pages are looking very nice and it is easy to use (one class implementation to show a html page). I want to show HTML pages in swing which can show javascript generated and modified objects, like a flashing circle. As far as i know, the cobra toolkit can show static javascript commands like 'document.write' or closwWindow() implementations, but not updating the GUI from a JavaScript. Did someone works with Lobo Cobra Toolkit before and give me some sample code or tips for showing HTML pages with animated JavaScript objects inside.

  Hi all : I am preparing for a Linux terminal assessment now, I tried to Google and found most resources are referring to the basic "grep" rather than the more powerful "egrep" -- well, that is at least what the professor said in lecture. • Is it actually possible to programmatically manage the state of an FTP server in IIS7?

  I'm able to manage FTP sites via the IIS manager, however, all attempts so far to manage the state of FTP sites using other means have failed, including: Using the IIS7 API (Microsoft.Web.Administration) Using WMI (with IIS6 compatibility enabled) Using the AppCmd tool in System32\inetsrv Related questions: Why am I unable to get Site.State for an FTP site, when using Microsoft.Web.Administration? Are there any workarounds I haven't tried? My objective is to manage (start/stop/query the state of) the FTP sites with C# code (as you can see from the 3 above attempted workarounds). When querying the FTP server state using WMI, it returns code 4, which means "Stopped", even though the site is definitely shown as running in IIS manager. AppCmd is useless, as it returns "Unknown" for FTP sites: c:\Windows\System32\inetsrv>appcmd list site SITE "Default Web Site" (id:1,bindings:http/*:80:,state:Stopped) SITE "Default FTP Site" (id:2,bindings:ftp/*:21:,state:Unknown)
