• Debugging mono assembly load error

  I am running asp.net/mono on Ubuntu with lighthttpd/fastcgi. Somehow I suspect an assembly reference sneaked in that I cannot track down, and it's causing my application to fail (it works fine on windows under MS.NET). When I try it under mono, I get: Failed to create shadow copy (CopyFile). Description: HTTP 500. Error processing request. • How to avoid chaotic ASP.NET web application deployment?

  Ok, so here's the thing. I'm developing an existing (it started being an ASP classic app, so you can imagine :P) web application under ASP.NET 4.0 and SQLServer 2005. We are 4 developers using local instances of SQL Server 2005 Express, having the source-code and the Visual Studio database project This webapp has several "universes" (that's how we call it). Every universe has its own database (currently on the same server) but they all share the same schema (tables, sprocs, etc) and the same source/site code. So manually deploying is really annoying, because I have to deploy the source code and then run the sql scripts manually on each database. I know that manual deploying can cause problems, so I'm looking for a way of automating it. We've recently created a Visual Studio Database Project to manage the schema and generate the diff-schema scripts with different targets. I don't have idea how to put the pieces together I would like to: Have a way to make a "sync" deploy to a target server (thanksfully I have full RDC access to the servers so I can install things if required). With "sync" deploy I mean that I don't want to fully deploy the whole application, because it has lots of files and I just want to deploy those new or changed. Generate diff-sql update scripts for every database target and combine it to just 1 script. For this I should have some list of the databases names somewhere. Copy the site files and executing the generated sql script in an easy and automated way. I've read about MSBuild, MS WebDeploy, NAnt, etc. But I don't really know where to start and I really want to get rid of this manual deploy. If there is a better and easier way of doing it than what I enumerated, I'll be pleased to read your option. I know this is not a very specific question but I've googled a lot about it and it seems I cannot figure out how to do it. I've never used any automation tool to deploy. • Variable field in a constraint annotation

  Hello, I need to create a custom constraint annotation which can access the value of another field of my bean. I'll use this annotation to validate the field because it depends on the value of the other but the way I define it the compiler says "The value for annotation attribute" of my field "must be a constant expression".   I have a paragraph of text and i want to replace some words using PHP (preg_replace). Here's a sample piece of text: This lesson addresses rhyming [one]words and ways[/one] that students may learn to identify these words. Topics include learning that rhyming words sound alike and these sounds all come from the [two]ending of the words[/two]. This can be accomplished by having students repeat sets of rhyming words so that they can say them and hear them. The students will also participate in a variety of rhyming word activities. In order to demonstrate mastery the students will listen to [three]sets of words[/three] and tell the teacher if the words rhyme or not. If you notice there are many occurances of the word 'words'. I want to replace all the occurances that don't occur inside any of the tags with the word 'birds'. So it looks like this: This lesson addresses rhyming [one]words and ways[/one] that students may learn to identify these birds. Topics include learning that rhyming birds sound alike and these sounds all come from the [two]ending of the words[/two]. • jQuery RJS inserting string vs dom.

  So I am trying to use jQuery to insert data from an ajax call. I actually use the jquery.form plugin, and have the ajax form submitted with a dataType: 'script'. The response is a jquery expression which contains a <%= javascript_escape(render ...) %> erb tag (similar to what the railscasts episode 136 instructs to do). However the end result is that the full text of the render is inserted as if that was the content to be inserted into the page, as text, not as dom elements. Could the fact that the render had some newlines at the beginning be the cause? Dom text: "\n \n &lt;li>....&lt;/li>" I also tried having jQuery just read the response as a script and execute it, and used the prototype-based rjs stuff, same effect, the text is inserted into the dom. Are there any reasons why such a behavior would be experienced? A bit of clarification: My response.js.erb is jQuery("#content").append("<%= escape_javascript(render(:partial => "widgets")) %>"); jQuery("#information").text("Finally, something happened!"); The full text inside the append() call is inserted as text into #content.

• compact Number formatting behavior in Java (automatically switch between decimal and scientific notation)

  I am looking for a way to format a floating point number dynamically in either standard decimal format or scientific notation, depending on the value of the number. For moderate magnitudes, the number should be formatted as a decimal with trailing zeros suppressed. If the floating point number is equal to an integral value, the decimal point should also be suppressed. For extreme magnitudes (very small or very large), the number should be expressed in scientific notation. Alternately stated, if the number of characters in the expression as standard decimal notation exceeds a certain threshold, switch to scientific notation. I should have control over the maximum number of digits of precision, but I don't want trailing zeros appended to express the minimum precision; all trailing zeros should be suppressed. Basically, it should optimize for compactness and readability. 2.80000 - 2.8 765.000000 - 765 0.0073943162953 - 0.00739432 (limit digits of precision—to 6 in this case) 0.0000073943162953 - 7.39432E-6 (switch to scientific notation if the magnitude is small enough—less than 1E-5 in this case) 7394316295300000 - 7.39432E+6 (switch to scientific notation if the magnitude is large enough—for example, when greater than 1E+10) 0.0000073900000000 - 7.39E-6 (strip trailing zeros from significand in scientific notation) 0.000007299998344 - 7.3E-6 (rounding from the 6-digit precision limit causes this number to have trailing zeros which are stripped) Here's what I've found so far: The .toString() method of the Number class does most of what I want, except it doesn't upconvert to integer representation when possible, and it will not express large integral magnitudes in scientific notation. Also, I'm not sure how to adjust the precision. The "%G" format string to the String.format(...) function allows me to express numbers in scientific notation with adjustable precision, but does not strip trailing zeros. I'm wondering if there's already some library function out there that meets these criteria. I guess the only stumbling block for writing this myself is having to strip the trailing zeros from the significand in scientific notation produced by %G.

  We are starting to develop a new application and I'm searching for information/tips/guides on application architecture. Application should: read the data from an external (USB) device send the data to the remote server (through internet) receive the data from the remote server perform a video call with to the calling (support) center receive a video call call from the calling (support) center support touch screens In addition: some of the data should also be visible through the web page. So I was thinking about: On the server side: use the database (probably MS SQL) use ORM (nHibernate) to map the data from the DB to the domain objects create a layer with business logic in C# create a web (WCF) services (for client application) create an asp.net mvc application (for item 7.) to enable data view through the browser On the client side I would use WPF 4 application which will communicate with external device and the wcf services on the server. So far so good. Now the problem begins. I have no idea how to create a video call (outgoing or incoming) part of the application. I believe that there is no problem to communicate with microphone, speaker, camera with WPF/C#. But how to communicate with the call center? What protocol and encoding should be used? I think that I will need to create some kind of server which will: have a list of operators in the calling center and track which operator is occupied and which operator is free have a list of connected end users receive incoming calls from end users and delegate call to free operator delegate calls from calling center to the end user Any info, link, anything on where to start would be much appreciated. • Help me re-center a ModalPopup within an iframe when the iframe's parent window scrolls

  I have a web page with an iframe in it (I don't like it, but that's the way it has to be). It's not a cross-domain iframe so there's nothing to worry about there. I have written a jQuery extension that does the centering of a ModalPopup (which is called from an overridden AjaxControlToolkit.ModalPopupBehavior._layout method) based on the width and height of the iframe's parent, so that it looks centered even though the iframe is not in the center of the page. It's a lot of tricky stuff, especially since the web page I added the iframe to runs in quirks mode. Now, I've also overridden AjaxControlToolkit.ModalPopupBehavior._attachPopup, so that when the parent window resizes or scrolls, the ModalPopup inside of the iframe recenter's itself relative to the new size of the parent window. However, the same code that attaches the popup to the parent window's resize event does NOT work for the parent window's scroll event. • Why can't HTC Droid running OTA 2.1 communicate with RFCOMM?

  Yesterday we received OTA Android 2.1 on my wife's HTC Droid - HOORAY!!! I am finally able to load my carputer app on her phone. Well we loaded it, but it doesn't work. Specifically, it connects but sees no I/O!!! I paired, re-paired, and re-paired again, every time its the same problem: connect() says we connected successfully, but any attempt to send or receive data appears to work but no data ever arrives in the input buffer. The device I'm connecting to uses AT commands. ATI should respond with a device ID. That works fine when I run the app on my Moto Droid, but on the HTC droid, no data is ever present in the inputstream/buffer. Personally, I'm feeling pretty sure it's a bug or limitation in this release for the HTC (because the app works great on my Moto A855 Droid). Can anybody comment on the issue?   I want to do the typical higlight code. So I have something like: $valor = preg_replace("/(".$_REQUEST['txt_search'].")/iu", "<span style='background-color:yellow; font-weight:bold;'>\\1</span>", $valor); Now, the request word could be something like "josé". And with it, I want "jose" or "JOSÉ" or "José" or ... highlighted too. With this expression, if I write "josé", it matches "josé" and "JOSÉ" (and all the case variants). It always matches the accented variants only. If I search "jose", it matches "JOSE", "jose", "Jose"... but not the accented ones. So I've partially what I want, cause I have case insensitive on accented and non-accented separately. I need it fully combined, wich means accent (unicode) insensitive, so I can search "jose", and highlight "josé", "josÉ", "José", "JOSE", "JOSÉ", "JoSé", ... I don't want to do a replace of accents on the word, cause when I print it on screen I need to see the real word as it comes. Any ideas? Thanks!

  I have a tabBar with 4 tabs on it, and I want to perform some action when a specific tab is selected, so I have uncommented the UITabBarControllerDelegate in the xxAppDelegate.m I also wanted to see the value that was being sent logged in the console - in order to test my "if" statement.   I have Windows Application (.EXE file is written in C and built with MS-Visual Studio), that outputs ASCII text to stdout. I’m looking to enhance the ASCII text to include limited HTML with a few links. I’d like to invoke this application (.EXE File) and take the output of that application and pipe it into a Browser. This is not a one time thing, each new web page would be another run of the Local Application! The HTML/java-script application below has worked for me to execute the application, but the output has gone into a DOS Box windows and not to pipe it into the Browser.   hi folks, i need to get splited intervals and the number of overlapping intervals, eg basedata: interval A: startTime 08:00, endTime 12:00 interval B: startTime 09:00, endTime 12:00 interval C: startTime 12:00, endTime 16:00 interval D: startTime 13:00, endTime 14:00 now i have a separate interval from 10:00 to 15:00 and have to determine what intervals are intersected at first. result should be something like: 1: 10:00 - 12:00 ( intersecting with interval A ) 2: 10:00 - 12:00 ( intersecting with interval B ) 3: 12:00 - 15:00 ( intersecting with interval C ) 4: 13:00 - 14:00 ( intersecting with interval D ) this part works fine, the following causes the trouble: i need some kind of weighting for parallel intervals. this also means, that it can occur that an interval-intersection must be splitted n times, if it's ( partly ) intersected by another one. in the upper example the expecting result would be: 1: 10:00 - 12:00 -> weightage: 50% 2: 10:00 - 12:00 -> weightage: 50% 3.1: 12:00 - 13:00 -> weightage: 1oo% 3.2: 13:00 - 14:00 -> weightage: 50% 3.3: 14:00 - 15:00 -> weightage: 50% 4: 13:00 - 14:00 -< weightage: 100% the splitting of interval 3 is caused by the intersecting with interval 4 between 13:00 and 14:00. sql-server is ms-sql 2008. thanks for help in advance!

• Creating a DataTable by filtering another DataTable

  I'm working on a system that currently has a fairly complicated function that returns a DataTable, which it then binds to a GUI control on a ASP.NET WebForm. My problem is that I need to filter the data returned - some of the data that is being returned should not be displayed to the user. I'm aware of DataTable.select(), but that's not really what I need. First, it returns an array of DataRows, and I need a DataTable, so I can databind it to the GUI control. But more importantly, the filtering I need to do isn't something that can be easily put into a simple expression. I have an array of the elements which I do not want displayed, and I need to compare each element from the DataTable against that array. What I could do, of course, is to create a new DataTable, reading everything out of the original, adding to the new what is appropriate, then databinding the new to the GUI control. But that just seems wrong, somehow. In this case, the number of elements in the original DataTable aren't likely to be enough that copying them all in memory is going to cause too much trouble, but I'm wondering if there is another way. Does the .NET DataTable have functionality that would allow me to filter via a callback function?

• Extending EF4 SQL Generation

  Hi, We're using EF4 in a fairly large system and occasionally run into problems due to EF4 being unable to convert certain expressions into SQL. At present, we either need to do some fancy footwork (DB/Code) or just accept the performance hit and allow the query to be executed in-memory. Needless to say neither of these is ideal and the hacks we've sometimes had to use reduce readability / maintainability. What we would ideally like is a way to extend the SQL generation capabilities of the EF4 SQL provider. Obviously there are some things like .Net method calls which will always have to be client-side but some functionality like date comparisons (eg Group by weeks in Linq to Entities ) should be do-able. I've Googled but perhaps I'm using the wrong terminology as all I get is information about the new features of EF4 SQL Generation. For such a flexible and extensible framework, I'd be surprised if this isn't possible. In my head, I'm imagining inheriting from the [SQL 2008] provider and extending it to handle additional expressions / similar in the expression tree it's given to convert to SQL. Any help/pointers appreciated. We're using VS2010 Ultimate, .Net 4 (non-client profile) and EF4. The app is in ASP.Net and is running in a 64-Bit environment in case it makes a difference.

  I'm facing a problem with a Word Mail Merge Automation controlled by our CRM system. The setup Base for the Mail Merge is a Word .dot template which fires a macro on Document.New. Inside this macro I create a .Net component registered for COM. Set myCOMObject = CreateObject("MyCOMObject") The component pulls some data from a database and hands string values which are assigned to Word DocumentVariables. Set someClass = myCOMObject.GetSomeClass(123) ActiveDocument.Variables("docaddress") = someClass.GetSenderAddress(456) All string values returned from the component are encoded in UTF-8 (codepage 1200). What happens The problem arises when the CRM system calls Word to perform the Mail Merge: The string values from the component are turned into UTF-8 encoded strings. All the static text inside the template and the data pulled for the Mail Merge stay nicely encoded in UTF-16 - example the umlaut ü inside my DocumentVariables is turned into c3 b0 while it stays fc for the rest of the document (checked file in hex editor). If I'm creating a document from a template with the same macro functionallity but without performing a Mail Merge all strings are fine; i.e. are encoded in UTF-16. What changed According to the CRM software vendor the encoding of the Mail Merge data export was changed to UTF-16 with the new version we're currently testing. I found out that MS states that you'll expirience issues when the document and the Mail Merge data file encoding don't match. What I tried Since I'm assuming to merge with UTF-16 encoded data I added the following lines to my macro: ActiveDocument.TextEncoding = msoEncodingWestern ActiveDocument.SaveEncoding = msoEncodingUnicodeLittleEndian This is what the Mail Merge data document specifies in its document properties.

• What is the difference between cubes and the Unified Dimensional Model (if any)?

  I'm currently researching SQL Server 2008 as a business intelligence solution, and currently looking at Analysis Services (and I'm pretty new to business intelligence as a whole...) I'm a bit confused by some of the terms in SSAS, particularly the conceptual differences between cubes and MS's Unified Dimensional Model. I believe that a cube in SSAS is basically an OLAP cube -- dimensions, measures, something that sits between the underlying data source and a business user. But then that's kind of what I understand UDM to be as well. The docs for SQL Server 2005 seem to suggest as much: "A cube is essentially synonymous with a Unified Dimensional Model (UDM)". But then the SQL Server 2008 pages sort of suggest that UDM is a wrapper for both multidimensional data (cubes) and relational data: "Use the Unified Dimensional Model to provide one consolidated business view for relational and multidimensional data that includes business entities, business logic, calculations, and metrics." This blog post suggests similarly: "UDM provides a single dimensional model for all OLAP analysis and relational reporting needs. So you can use either MDX or SQL" Is UDM something that sits above cubes? Or are they the same thing? I presume I would develop cubes with the Cube Designer application; what would I develop a UDM with?

This works fine. But it prevents me from reusing the same list in my PHP code when I want to access a particular file based on a certain key from the same external file(filesToCheck.txt). I looked through Phing's documentation but didn't find any array Task. Does anyone know of a work around or is creating a new task the only solution for handling an array property in Phing ?

• How do I label a group of radio boxes for WCAG / 508 Compliance? Is ASP.NET doing it wrong?

  I am trying to bring an existing web site into greater conformance with WCAG 2.0 Guidelines and am a bit confused over the output emitted by Microsoft (ASP.NET 4.0 although it was the same in 3.5). Suppose you have a question like: "How would you rate your health?" and a set of 5 answers created using an ASP.NET RadioButtonList. I place the question in an asp:Label with an "AssociatedControlID" that matches the ID of the RadioButtonList (e.g. "SelfRatingBox"). Seems pretty easy... Only the output that is generated has an html "label" with a "For" that is equal to the ID of a table that wraps up the RadioButtons. I assumed that this would work with page readers but our 508 compliance guy is saying that the reader isn't associating the label with the radio controls. The WCAG guidelines indicate that you have to use a fieldset around the entire group and a legend to capture the associated text (the question). So what gives? It would be ideal if MS could take my label and the radiobuttonlist and generate the appropriate fieldset and legend tags but it seems pretty clear that to achieve WCAG compliance, I'll have to roll my own. Is this correct or am I missing something?

• How to configure outgoing connections from an SQL stored procedure?

  I am working on a .NET project which uses Microsoft SQL server. In this project, I need a CLR stored procedure (written in C#) that uses a remote web service. So, when the stored procedure is executed on the SQL server, it makes web service calls and thus sends packets to a remote location. The problem is that when executing the SP I get: "System.Net.WebException: The request failed with HTTP status 403: Forbidden." The database user has full permission, the deployed CLR assembly and SP are even marked "unsafe", I tried signing it etc., so any of that is not causing the problem. When I am executing the very same C# code, but from a simple console application instead of as a SP, it all works fine. So I started to suspect a network related problem and had a packet sniffer running when executing both the SP and the console app version. What I realized was that the packets sent out had different destination IP addresses: the console app sent the packets directly to the web service IP while the SP sent the packets to a proxy server we use in our company. Due to network policies the latter is not allowed and that explains the "403 Forbidden" exception. So my question boils down to this: How can I configure the SP/MS SQL server to NOT use that proxy? I want it to send the packets directly to the web service IP, just like the test console app. (again, the C# code is the same , so it's not a programming matter). I've disabled all proxy settings in Internet Explorer in case the SQL server inherits these settings or something. However, no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Best regards, Peter

• Entity Framework 4 and SYSUTCDATETIME ()

  Hi, I use EF4 and C#. I have a Table in my DataBase (MS SQL 2008) with a default value for a column SYSUTCDATETIME (). The Idea is to automatically add Date and Time as soon as a new record is Created. I create my Conceptual Model using EF4, and I have created an ASP.PAGE with a DetailsView Control in INSERT MODE. My problems: When I create a new Record. EF is not able to insert the actual Date and Time value but it inserts instead this value 0001-01-01 00:00:00.00. I suppose the EF is not able to use SYSUTCDATETIME () defined in my DataBase Any idea how to solve it? • Regex to ensure group match doesn't end with a specific character

  I'm having trouble coming up with a regular expression to match a particular case. I have a list of tv shows in about 4 formats: Name.Of.Show.S01E01 Name.Of.Show.0101 Name.Of.Show.01x01 Name.Of.Show.101 What I want to match is the show name. My main problem is that my regex matches the name of the show with a preceding '.'. My regex is the following: "^([0-9a-zA-Z\.]+)(S[0-9]{2}E[0-9]{2}|[0-9]{4}|[0-9]{2}x[0-9]{2}|[0-9]{3})" Some Examples: >>> import re >>> SHOW_INFO = re.compile("^([0-9a-zA-Z\.]+)(S[0-9]{2}E[0-9]{2}|[0-9]{4}|[0-9]{2}x[0-9]{2}|[0-9]{3})") >>> match = SHOW_INFO.match("Name.Of.Show.S01E01") >>> match.groups() ('Name.Of.Show.', 'S01E01') >>> match = SHOW_INFO.match("Name.Of.Show.0101") >>> match.groups() ('Name.Of.Show.0', '101') >>> match = SHOW_INFO.match("Name.Of.Show.01x01") >>> match.groups() ('Name.Of.Show.', '01x01') >>> match = SHOW_INFO.match("Name.Of.Show.101") >>> match.groups() ('Name.Of.Show.', '101') So the question is how do I avoid the first group ending with a period?
