• RemoteRef.invoke implementation

  Just finished a basic implementation of RMI for a class project, and now I am interested in how it is actually done. Sun is kind enough to provide the source for the majority of the Java classes with the JDK, however an implementation of RemoteRef doesn't seem to be there. I have the source for the interface RemoteRef along with the ServerRef interface and one implementation, ProxyRef, which just calls invoke on another RemoteRef, but none of the classes that implement actual code, ActivatableRef or UnicastRef for example, are included. I mention ActivatableRef and UnicastRef because I believe these have proper implementations of invoke thanks to the wonder that is Eclipse and its class file editor showing that it is more then just a method declaration. Although I can tell that it is more then a declaration, I can't get much more out of it, building a string here, throw exception there, but nothing about the process that is taking place to send the remote method call. Would anyone here happen to know where I can get this code, or if its even available? If it is not available, would anyone happen to know what the message being sent to the server looks like? phill

• Visual Studio 2008 "Save File As" Dialog Intermittent Issue

  Me and a few of my coworkers are experiencing an odd issue in Visual Studio 2008 and Windows 7 (64-bit). We use VSS6 for our source control (unfortunately). We have an issue where we will make a change to a checked-out file, resulting in the file getting checked out as expected. But when we go to build the project, or try to save the file, it will often (but not always) prompt us with the "Save File As" dialog, as if VS thinks the file is checked-in (and thus has the read-only flag set). However, all we have to do is cancel out of the dialog and save or build again, and it will always work the second time, without prompting the save as dialog. Or, we can go through with the save as, leaving the name the same, and it will work. It's as if the source control status in VS2008 hasn't caught up w/ VSS (even though we VS2008 was the app that checked the file out). This is similar to the discussion on this thread, but it's not an issue of permissions or running as administrator, 1) because it resolves itself on second attempt, and 2) we're already running VS as administrator. • Libraries for developing NCPDP SCRIPT based systems (a standard for e-prescribing)

  What are (based on experiences) best (commercial or open source) libraries for developing NCPDP-based systems? Background: NCPDP (National Council for Prescription Drug Programs) is a not-for-profit, ANSI-accredited, standards development organization. One of it's standards is the SCRIPT Standard for Electronic Prescribing, which allows PHARMACY, PRESCRIBER (i.e. Physician) and PAYERS (patient or more often insurer) communicate. So the SCRIPT standard is about data transmission. Problem: One step in implementing such systems is to develop models for data based on SCRIPT standard. These models should have utilities for serializing/deserializing to/from SCRIPT binary format and SCRIPT XML format (there are two distinct formats here; both must be supported). Here rises the problem (for me at least). To develop this subsystem for handling the model, implementing serializing and deserializing facilities and keep it uptodate with the SCRIPT standard specifications is a lot of work; it needs it's own team and team management issues (to support a standard implementation). So I am looking for a solution to this problem; to keep standard implementation out of the way and focusing on main problems. Thanks to all (Thankyou Freiheit for your hints!) Edit 2: Thanks to all for help! NCPDP (National Council for Prescription Drug Programs) is an standard for e-prescribing. It defines two formats for message transmission: binary and XML. Implementing XML is somehow easier because it is a standard format which in turn gives us more tooling options. The binary format has a very big specification and time-consuming to implement. I did not find an open source solution to work with. So I am looking for commercial alternatives. Edit 1: Please guide me; what's wrong with this question?

• How to suggest changes as a recently-hired employee ?

  Hi, I was recently hired in a big company (thousands of people, to give an idea of the size). They said they hired me because of my rigor and because I was, despite my youngness (i'm 25), experienced as a C/C++ programer. Now that I'm in, I can see that the whole system is old and often uses obsolete technologies. There is no naming convention (files, functions, variables, ...), they don't use Version Control, don't use exceptions or polymorphism and it seems like almost everybody lost his passion (some of them are only 30 years old). I'd like to suggest somes changes but i don't want to be "the new guy that wants to change everything just because he doesn't want to fit in". I tried to "fit in", but actually, It takes me one week to do what I would do in one afternoon, just because of the poor tools we're forced to use. A lot my collegues never look at the new "things" and techniques that people use nowadays. It's like they just given up. The situation is really frustrating. Have you ever been in a similar situation and, if so, what advices would you give me ? Is there a subtle way of changing things without becoming the black sheep here ? Or should I just give up my passion and energy as well ? Thank you.

In addition, I render a switch bound to active. You should see something like: The problems observed are: If you click on a switch you will see that the value of active next to the name changes its value (as expected) but if then, you pick another switch, the value (neither next to name nor in the DataSource) is not updated (despite the value of the switch is correctly updated). The update handler in the DataSource is never invoked (not even for the first chosen switch and despite the DataSource for that first toggled switch is updated). • unable to place breakpoints in eclipse

  I am using eclipse europa (3.5) on windows vista home premium 64-bit using JDK 1.6.0_18 (32 BIT). Normally, I am able to put breakpoints just fine; However, for a particular class which is NOT part of the project (this class is inside a .JAR file (.JAR file is part of the project) ), although I have attached a source directory to this .JAR file, I am unable to place a breakpoint in this class. If I double-click on the breakpoint pane(left border), I notice that a class breakpoint is placed. I was wondering if there was NO debug info; However, found that this particular class was compiled using ant/javac task using debug="true" and debuglevel="lines,vars,source". I even ran jad on this class to confirm that it indeed contained the debug info. So, why is eclipse preventing me from placing a breakpoint ? EDIT : Just so everyone understands the context, this is a webapp running under tomcat 6.0. I am remote debugging the application from eclipse after having started tomcat outside. The application is working just fine. I am trying to understand the behavior of the above class which I'm unable to do since eclipse is not letting me set a BP. P.S : I saw a few threads here talking about BPs not being hit but in my case, I am unable to place the BP! P.P.S : I tried JDK 1.6.0_16 before trying out 1.6.0_18. Thanks for any pointers.

• Getting content from PHP: Trouble with POST and query.

  Apologies for my longest question on SO ever. I'm trying to interface with a php frontend for a mysql database in ROOT (a CERN framework in C++ for high energy physics analysis). To start off with, I tried to get this php interface to play nice with wget and curl first because I'm more familiar with them. The following command works: wget --post-data "hostname=localhost:3306&un=joeuser&pw=psswd&myquery=show_spazio_databases;" http://some.host.edu/log/log_query_matlab.php The results are: database1 database2 That's good. If I leave out the --post-data then I get the result: Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'admin'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in /log/log_query_matlab.php on line 6 i'm dead! What matters it that using ROOT, I use a function called as socket.SendRaw(message, message.Length()) (socket is a TSocket) and this gives me the same "error" as wget without the post data switch if my "message" is "POST http://some.host.edu/log/log_query_matlab.php?hostname=localhost:3306&un=joeuser&pw=psswd&myquery=show_spazio_databases" This may be in vain, but does someone knows a way I should format the "message" that includes something that is equivalent to the --post-data switch. Or, is there a standard way to format POST requests in a single line (I've seen multi-line stuff. Is that right?) Sorry I'm clueless! PS. The mysql query is show databases but the space has been replaced with _spazio_, Italian for space. The author of the db and php interface requires it (and various replacements for symbols), but has anyone seen this before? Trying to troubleshoot that was terrible!

  I am trying to do something in VisualWebDev 2008 Express that I thought would be simple, but it is not working. I want to display data from an XML file so I added the XMLDataSource to my page, pointed it to the XML file, and then added the GridView and connected it to the datasource. I am getting the following error: GridView - GridView1There was an error rendering the control. The data source for GridView with id 'GridView1' did not have any properties or attributes from which to generate columns. Ensure that your data source has content. • Node.js/ v8: How to make my own snapshot to accelerate startup

  I have a node.js (v0.6.12) application that starts by evaluating a Javascript file, startup.js. It takes a long time to evaluate startup.js, and I'd like to 'bake it in' to a custom build of Node if possible. The v8 source directory distributed with Node, node/deps/v8/src, contains a SconScript that can almost be used to do this. On line 302, we have LIBRARY_FILES = ''' runtime.js v8natives.js array.js string.js uri.js math.js messages.js apinatives.js date.js regexp.js json.js liveedit-debugger.js mirror-debugger.js debug-debugger.js '''.split() Those javascript files are present in the same directory. Something in the build process apparently evaluates them, takes a snapshot of state, and saves it as a byte string in node/out/Release/obj/release/snapshot.cc (on Mac OS). Some customization of the startup snapshot is possible by altering the SconScript. For example, I can change the definition of the builtin Date.toString by altering date.js. I can even add new global variables by adding startup.js to the list of library files, with contents global.test = 1. However, I can't put just any javascript code in startup.js. If it contains Date.toString = 1;, an error results even though the code is valid at the node repl: Build failed: -> task failed (err #2): {task: libv8.a SConstruct -> libv8.a} make: *** [program] Error 1 And it obviously can't make use of code that depends on libraries Node adds to v8. global.underscore = require('underscore'); causes the same error. I'd ideally like a tool, customSnapshot, where customSnapshot startup.js evaluates startup.js with node and then dumps a snapshot to a file, snapshot.cc, which I can put into the node source directory. I can then build node and tell it not to rebuild the snapshot.

• WordPerfect programmers refusing to use anything but assembler

  There is a version (popularised by Joel Spolsky) attributing the demise of WordPerfect to a refusal of its programmers to use anything but assembler that led to delay of the first WPwin release and as result eventually to losing the all important battle with Microsoft. There are a few references to programming work being done using assembler in the autobiographical book "Almost Perfect" by W. E. Pete Peterson who used to have a major influence at running the corporation. But these references go back to early 80's when WordPerfect was trying to gain a significant market share by defeating WordStar and not early nineties when the battle with MS took place. I am looking for a second independent source to confirm the assumption. Maybe someone who worked for WordPerfect Corporation at a time, who was close to the company, or had a chance to see the source could clarify the issue. Your help is much appreciated, thanks! Please note that this question is not about any other theories or reasons behind WordPerfect demise. I really just need to clarify whether they used assembler as a primary language for WPwin and (as a bonus really) whether there were discussions held within the corporation about assembler being the right choice. Concisely: Did WPCorp use assembler as a primary language for WPwin? Were discussions held at a time amongst WP Corp staff about assembler being the right choice (was it management or programmers decision)?

• Windows 7 theme for WPF?

  Is there any way to make a WPF app look like it's running on Windows 7 even if it's running on XP? I'm looking for some kind of theme I can just paste in. I'm aware of the themes project on Codeplex (http://www.codeplex.com/wpfthemes), but it lacks support for DataGrid, which is something I critically need. I was thinking maybe the Windows 7 theme would just be an easy port, or exists in some file somewhere already. Any information you have (even if it's bad news) would be much appreciated. Update Using @Lars Truijens idea, I was able to get the Windows 7 look for the major controls, but unfortunately it did not work for the WPF Toolkit DataGrid control, which I need. DataGrid looks like this with Aero theme DataGrid should look like this So, I'm still looking for a solution to this problem if anyone has any ideas. Maybe someone has built an extension to the Aero theme that covers the WPF toolkit controls? Again, any information you have is much appreciated. Update 2 - Problem solved! • Import package problem in GWT

  Hi! I'm developing an app using GWT Eclipse plug-in. (I'm also using GWT Designer but I don't think the problem is here). Previously when I wanted to communicate with a web service I created, I produced the "skeleton" classes from the WSDL url using Sun's wsimport tool. Then I would add the classes generated to a class folder in my Eclipse project. All worked well. However this doesn't seem to be working with GWT. I have these: VideoTutorialServiceService service = new VideoTutorialServiceService(); VideoTutorialService port = service.getVideoTutorialServicePort(); and I have VideoTutorialServiceService and VideoTutorialService underlined in red, the error saying videotutorialservice.VideoTutorialServiceService can not be found in source packages. Check the inheritance chain from your module; it may not be inheriting a required module or a module may not be adding its source path entries properly. .... I googled about it but I got confused. I'm a beginnier in GWT. How can I resolve this please? Thanks and regards, Krt_Malta

  I'm getting an odd problem when implementing a master / child view and custom dependency properties. Within my master view I'm binding the view model declaratively in the XAML as follows: DataContext="{Binding MainViewModelProperty, Source={StaticResource Locator}}" and my MainViewModel is exposing an observable collection which I'm binding to an ItemsControl as follows: <ItemsControl ItemsSource="{Binding Lists}" Height="490" Canvas.Top="10" Width="70"> <ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <Canvas> <local:TaskListControl Canvas.Left="{Binding ListLeft}" Canvas.Top="{Binding ListTop}" Width="{Binding ListWidth}" Height="{Binding ListHeight}" ListDetails="{Binding}"/> </Canvas> </DataTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> </ItemsControl> TaskListControl in turn declares and bind to it's ViewModel and I've also defined a dependency property for the ListDetails property. The ListDetails property is not being set and if I remove the declarative reference to it's viewmodel the dependency property's callback does get fired. Is there a conflict with declaratively binding to viewmodels and definig dependency properties? I really like MVVM Light's blendability and want to perserve with this problem so any help would be apprectiated. If you'd like to receive the source for my project then please ask

  Question: How do I maintain both the contents (from queries) and selected value of both dropdowns after postback? Source Code: Download my source code from this link (link now works). Just add a reference to your AjaxControlToolkit User Action: Select a value from each dropdown. Click Submit. After Postback: StatesDrop: (Selected value), CitiesDrop "Select a City" Before and after: I believe that when the first dropdown gets its selected value, the second dropdown refreshes and therefore loses its selected value. C# answers also welcome. • Bound checkbox does not update its datasource.

  I have a checkbox who's checked value is bound to a binding source which is bound to a boolean data table column. When I click my save button to push my changes in my data table to my sql server the value in the data table is never changed. I need to get a cue banner to display for this ComboBox. I've attempted the solution that is (very verbosely) outlined in this blog post, but it will not work for a ComboBox with grouped data. The two solutions outlined in superfluousprefixhttp://stackoverflow.com/questions/2548757/how-can-the-blank-space-in-a-c-combobox-be-filled-as-a-hint-for-the-user are for Windows Forms ComboBoxes only, and won't work with WPF.   In a project I have a folder src for all application source code and a different folder test for all junit test (both with a simular package hierarchy). Now I want that Ant can run all tests in in test folder, bot the problem is that now also files in the src folder with "Test" in the filename are included.   Hello, I am trying to create the following layout: an HTML file with a body, that has a certain width, and a frame, that fills the rest, so, more or less like this: <frameset cols="150px,*"> <body></body> <frame src="source.html" /> </frameset> The thing is, I need the body to have a certain width, not wider, but I also need its elements to be free to move OUTSIDE the body, over the frame, without creating a scrollbar. And I really need the body to be of limited width and the frame to fill the rest. Thanks in advance! EDIT: Okay, I will try to rephrase my problem. What I need, is something that I can put in to the frameset, that is like a border, BUT that is rendered on the main page, and not from a source, something where I can write directly and whose elements can overlap the other frame. • Scripts to parse and download iTunes Connect and AppStore data

  I'm looking for recommendations of a script or series of scripts that download and parse iTunes Connect sales data and AppStore comments, ratings and rankings data for a defined app. I'm also aware of solutions like: AppViz appsales-mobile iphone-stats Heartbeat.app I'm sure I'll find a few more with more searching. I can't help but feel there must be a really decent set of open source scripts out there to do this, given how many developers are now writing apps for the AppStore. Would be interested to hear any commercial offerings as well (although my personal preference is for open source, so I can at least see what it is doing with my iTunes Connect login credentials). To be clear, I'm really looking for something that hits all of the areas mentioned: App Store (per store) Comments Ratings Category/store rankings iTunes Connect The contents of the sales reports Analysis/graphs of the data is not necessary (but would be a nice to have I guess). I'm not really looking for something like AppSales Mobile above, I would like the raw data so I can do my own analysis and formatting. So far it looks like AppViz (listed above) is the best out there. Any suggestions on what is good/available or should I just go roll my own?
