• Linq-to-sql Compiled Query is returning result from different DataContext

  Compiled query: public static Func<OperationalDataContext, short, Machine> QueryMachineById = CompiledQuery.Compile((OperationalDataContext db, short machineID) => db.Machines.Where(m => m.MachineID == machineID).SingleOrDefault()); It looks like compiled query is caching Machine object and returning the same object even if query is called from new DataContext (I’m disposing DataContext in the service but I’m getting Machine from previous DataContext). I use POCOs and XML mapping. Revised: It looks like compiled query is returning result from new data context and it is not using the one that I passed in compiled-query. Therefore I can not reuse returned object and link it to another object obtained from datacontext thru non compiled queries. • Restrict RDP port based on a Dynamic DNS

  Hi All, I want to set a restriction on my firewall (windows firewall on windows 2008) to only allow connections from a certain dynamic DNS. Is this possible? The reason I ask is that this would allow us to just change the IP on the dynamic DNS if our IP changes and means we won't get locked out of RDP. This also allows me to RDP in from other locations that have IP's that are not static by just changing the IP against the DNS. Any ideas. Thanks in advance.

If the value of the enum is a combination of more than one of the enum elements how can I extract one of those elements at random? I have the following but it seems there must be a better way.   I need to display both the AssemblyVersion and the AssemblyFileVersion.   I'm building a few SharePoint sites, and I want to make use of zones so I may set security different in the various zones. My workstation has a local SharePoint, and I use it for development. My workstation has a static IP, and is connected to the internet. When I make a SharePoint site, I want to add a host header, for instance, devbox.com. I do not own this name, nor do I want to. I then add an entry in my hosts file, but when I surf to http://devbox.com:8080, it does not resolve. Do I need to register the name I want to use, or should this work, i.e., have my hosts file resolve names/IPs first?

• Throwing exceptions as well as catching exceptions?

  I was wondering how Java takes the following scenario public static void main(String[] args) throws IndexOutOfBoundsException, CoordinateException, MissionException, SQLException, ParserConfigurationException { try { doSomething(); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } In the above code, I am declaring the main function to throw many different exceptions, but inside the function, I am catching the generic Exception. I am wondering how java takes this internally? I.e., say doSomething() throws an IndexOutOfBounds exception, will the e.printStackTrace() get called in the last catch (Exception e) {...} block? I know if an exception not declared in the throws area of the function gets thrown, the try/catch will handle it, but what about exceptions mentioned in the declaration?

  I've spent most of my time in statically typed languages (primarily C#). I have some bad experiences with the Active Record pattern and unit testing, because of the static methods and the mix of entities and data access code. Since the Ruby community probably is the most test driven of the communities out there, and the Rails ActiveRecord seems popular, there must be some way of combining TDD and ActiveRecord based code in Ruby on Rails. I would guess that the problem goes away in dynamic languages, somehow, but I don't see how. So, what's the trick?

  HI, I started implementing a HTML Browser in Swing. I want to use the Lobo Cobra toolkit because this toolkit inclused a renderer and parser for CSS and JavaScript. The pages are looking very nice and it is easy to use (one class implementation to show a html page). I want to show HTML pages in swing which can show javascript generated and modified objects, like a flashing circle. As far as i know, the cobra toolkit can show static javascript commands like 'document.write' or closwWindow() implementations, but not updating the GUI from a JavaScript. Did someone works with Lobo Cobra Toolkit before and give me some sample code or tips for showing HTML pages with animated JavaScript objects inside.

When you select a country it should load it's cities.   I have a query that hits a service and returns the results back to me as an indexed collection static void QueryActivities() { QueryClient qc = new QueryClient("BasicHttpBinding_IQuery"); QueryFilter filter = new QueryFilter(); filter.CallForService = false; var result = qc.GetFilteredActivityIndex(filter); result.Clone(); //inserted this just to test return in debug mode } WHen this is executed I get a return of 5 records ( actually five rows of data with multiple values per each row. id, type, date, address etc). I would like to bind this return to a gridview within a WPF application. Is there a way to refernce and bind to result variable or do I need to create a new collection and then add the return of result to the new collection? thank you

  Hey, I have made a function to cound the weeks in a year, and that works fine. The problem is that I need a method to get the mondaydate of the week. This is a swedish calendar. The code below works well for years that have 52 weeks, but some years(like 2009) has 53 weeks. Then I got a date from januari as the mondaydate(cant be right). So please help me to get it to work for all years. What I probably could do is check if the year has 53 weeks and then do some checks but I'd like it to go smooth without special checks. CAML it’s a markup language like html that allows developers to do queries against SharePoint lists, it’s syntax is very easy to understand and it allows to add logical conditions like Where, Contains, And, Or, etc, just like a SQL Query. For one of our projects we have the need to do a filter on SharePoint views, the problem here is that the view it’s a list containing a CAML Query with the filters the view may have, so in order to filter the view that’s already been filtered before, we need to append our filters to the existing CAML Query. That’s not a trivial task because the where statement in a CAML Query it’s like this: <Where>   <And>     <Filter1 />     <Filter2 />   </And> </Where> If we want to add a new logical operator, like an OR it’s not just as simple as to append the OR expression like the following example: <Where>   <And>     <Filter1 />     <Filter2 />   </And>   <Or>     <Filter3 />   </Or> </Where> But instead the correct query would be: <Where>   <Or>     <And>       <Filter1 />       <Filter2 />     </And>     <Filter3 />   </Or> </Where> Notice that the <Filter# /> tags are for explanation purpose only. In order to solve this problem we created a simple component, it has a method that receives the current query (could be an empty query also) and appends the expression you want to that query.
