• jquery slide toggle divs without creating multiple classes, functions, etc... ui accordion

  Greetings, based on the jquery ui accordion I'm using, I have added a slide toggle to my accordion list items. so what happens is I click on an li and a div slides down underneath to reveal more content. The issue I'm having is that I find myself having to create multiple id's to reference the slidetoggle. example of the div id css: #panel, #panel2, #panel3, #panel4, etc.... the Is there a way I can use the slide toggle without having to adding another number so it will slide?   The example below may not be problematic as is, but it should be enough to illustrate a point. Imagine that there is a lot more work than trimming going on. public string Thingy { set { // I guess we can throw a null reference exception here on null. value = value.Trim(); // Well, imagine that there is so much processing to do this.thingy = value; // That this.thingy = value.Trim() would not fit on one line ... So, if the assignment has to take two lines, then I either have to abusereuse the parameter, or create a temporary variable. I am not a big fan of temporary variables. On the other hand, I am not a fan of convoluted code. I did not include an example where a function is involved, but I am sure you can imagine it. One concern I have is if a function accepted a string and the parameter was "abused", and then someone changed the signature to ref in both places - this ought to mess things up, but ... who would knowingly make such a change if it already worked without a ref? Seems like it is their responsibility in this case. If I mess with the value of value, am I doing something non-trivial under the hood? If you think that both approaches are acceptable, then which do you prefer and why? Thanks.

• Java equivalent to VS solution file

  I'm a C# guy trying to learn Java. I understand the syntax and the basic architecture of the Java platform, and have no problem doing smaller projects myself, but I'd really like to be able to download some open source projects to learn from the work of others. However, I'm running into a stumbling block that I can't seem to find any information on. When I download an open source .NET project, I can open the .sln file with visual studio and everything just loads. Sure, there's occasionally a missing reference or something, but there's really very little configuration required to get things going. I'm not sensing the same ease of use with Java. I'm using eclipse at the moment, and it feels like for every project I have to create a brand new Eclipse project using "create from existing source", and almost nothing compiles properly without significant reconfiguration. In the case of web projects, it's even worse, because Eclipse doesn't appear to support creating a web project from existing source. I have to create a standard Java project from source, then then apparently modify the project file to include the bindings for the web toolkit stuff to work properly. Assuming I want to be able to contribute to a project later on, I shouldn't have to be making such drastic changes to the file structure to get my IDE to a workable state. What am I missing?

• JQuery Simplemodal and Tabs Help Needed

  Hi, I've got an asp.net page containing a Textbox with an Autocomplete extender on it. It's setup so the user can type a short reference code into the textbox and then choose from the list of matching codes returned by the autocomplete. On the "select", I then call the server using JQuery. I'm currently using $.get here.... The callback function from $.get checks for "success" and then displays a simple-modal dialog containing info about the item they've just selected. if (sStatus == "success") { $.modal(sText, { overlayClose: true, appendTo:'form', onShow: function(dialog) { $("#ccTargets_tabContainer").tabs(); }, onClose: function(dialog) { $("#<%=TextBox1.ClientID%>").val(""); $.modal.close(); } }); $.ready(); } One of the bits of info being loaded here is a JQuery TABS setup, so the onShow function of the simplemodal is used to initiate the tabs which are within the simplemodal. Now to the crux of my problem. If I do multiple consecutive "autocompletes" on the same page it all works fine Unless I have selected a different tab on the tabs in the simplemodal ....If I select a different tab, close the simplemodal and then do another autocomplete I get a JQuery error which seems to relate to a selector doing something with the "old" selected tab that was on the "closed" modal. I'm clearly missing some sort of cleardown / initialisation somewhere, but can't find what it is. Help? I've tried "tabs.destroy" before the modal call in the code above and I've tried a $.ready() call as indicated too.... UPDATE: Is it something to do with JQuery Tabs appending my addressbar URL with the selected tab's ID?

• Trying to build a Drupal-like CMS in ASP.NET MVC - Newbie Questions

  I am new to ASP.NET MVC, and the ASP.NET technology in general, so, please, excuse the stupidity of my questions. I have a lot of experience with php development and CMS customization (Drupal and Wordpress mainly), and I wanted to know whether some techniques could be applied in asp.net mvc. I want to know what exactly could be modified without recompiling an already built application Can I edit the views without recompiling the app. Can I create custom themes ? Can I add plugins compiled as dlls and use them at runtime. Can I "mark" the assembly in such a way that the web application will check on the next request and will reference it, without me manually adding it to the project and recompiling. I've heard that this is possible. I will make sure to add more when something comes up. The reason I am asking is because I'd like to try and develop a Drupal-like CMS (custom types, views, etc) in asp.net mvc. The dynamism of php will be quite a challenge to replicate in a compiled technology, yet I am ready to try.

  Hi Everyone, I'm new to iPhone development. I am trying to get Xcode to run an application on a phone. The app works fine in the simulator. Initially I hit the error: The executable was signed with invalid entitlements I followed the steps here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1074546/the-executable-was-signed-with-invalid-entitlements But now I am getting an exit code of 11. • How to use 3rd party libraries in glassfish?

  I need to connect to a MongoDB instance from my EJB3 application, running on glassfish 3.0.1. The Mongo project provides a set of drivers, and I'm able to use them in a standalone Java application. How would I use them in a JEE application? Or maybe better phrasing: how would I make a 3rd party library available to my application when it runs in an EJB container?   Hey all, I'm looking into a project that would upload custom NSBundles that include a NSViewController. In my main program I've got this code to deal with the bundle after it's been loaded... id principalClass = [loadedBundle principalClass]; id instance = [[principalClass alloc] init]; [localLabel setStringValue:[instance name]]; NSView *incomingView = [[instance viewController] view]; [localView addSubview:incomingView]; [localView display]; And the principal classes init method in the bundle looks like this... -(id) init { if(self = [super init]){ name = @"My Plugin"; viewController = [[ViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"View" bundle:nil]; } return self; } View.nib is a nib located in the bundles project. But whenever I load the bundle I get this error... 2010-05-27 09:11:18.423 PluginLoader[45032:a0f] unable to find nib named: View in bundle path: (null) 2010-05-27 09:11:18.424 PluginLoader[45032:a0f] -[NSViewController loadView] could not load the "View" nib. I know I've got everything wired up because the line [label setStringValue:[instance name]]; sets the label text correctly. Plus, if I take all of the clases in the bundle and load them into my main applications project everything works as expect. Any thoughts on how I can correctly reference "View" in my bundle? Thanks!

• Why does Cut/Paste of form components sometimes stop working in Delphi 2007 IDE?

  This is driving me crazy. I'm not going to take it anymore. I'm going to ask, even at the risk of eternal public humiliation! (If it's something really obvious or that I've done to the system myself). For reasons I've never quite had the patience to work out, every so often the form I'm working on in Delphi 2007's visual form editor goes 'pseudo-read-only'; I can add new components to the form, I can move/resize existing ones (and change any properties in the Object Inspector), and I can select a component and 'copy' it to the clipboard. But I'm completely unable to cut a component from the form, or paste a new copy down. I don't believe it's to do with the 'Lock Controls' Edit menu option as I can toggle this on or off and it has the effect it's supposed to - this disappearance of Cut & Paste happens on the right-click context menu, from the keyboard and from the main Edit menu - it's as if the form has become read only to thing to do with the clipboard. If I close the form in the IDE and then reopen it, everything starts working fine again (just as D1, D3, D5 and D7 always did for me, previously). I'm not going mad, as I'm sure I read something about why this happens on a newsgroup once and it's caught me out from time to time many many times in the last few months, but I've failed to find the newsgroup reference this evening and I've decided that, as more and more Delphi users seem to be making use of StackOverflow, it was worth asking here. Help - when I'm doing lots of form-work it drives me absolutely mad!

• How to use Object.GetHashCode() on a type that overrides GetHashCode()

  Hi, I have a class A that implements IEquatable<, using its fields (say, A.b and A.c) for implementing/overriding Equals() and overriding GetHashCode(), and everything works fine, 99% of the time. Class A is part of a hierarchy (class B, C) that all inherit from interface D; they can all be stored together in a dictionary Dictionary, thus it's convenient when they all carry their own default Equals()/GetHashCode(). However, while constructing A I sometime need to do some work to get the values for A.b and A.c; while that's happening, I want to store a reference to the instance that's being built. In that case, I don't want to use the default Equals()/GetHashCode() overrides provided by A. Thus, I was thinking of implementing a ReferenceEqualityComparer, that's meant to force the use of Object's Equals()/GetHashCode(): private class ReferenceEqualityComparer<T> : IEqualityComparer<T> { #region IEqualityComparer<T> Members public bool Equals(T x, T y) { return System.Object.ReferenceEquals(x, y); } public int GetHashCode(T obj) { // what goes here? I want to do something like System.Object.GetHashCode(obj); } #endregion } The question is, since A overrides Object.GetHashCode(), how can I (outside of A) call Object.GetHashCode() for an instance of A? • Java/Spring: Why won't Spring use the validator object I have configured?

  I'm writing a web app with Java & Spring 2.5.6 and using annotations for bean validation. I can get the basic annotation validation working fine, and Spring will even call a custom Validator declared with @Validator on the target bean. But it always instantiates a brand new Validator object to do it. This is bad because the new validator has none of the injected dependencies it needs to run, and so it throws a null pointer exception on validate. I need one of two things and I don't know how to do either. Convince Spring to use the validator I have already configured. Convince Spring to honor the @Autowired annotations when it creates the new validator. The validator has the @Component annotation, like this. @Component public class AccessCodeBeanValidator implements Validator { @Autowired private MessageSource messageSource; Spring finds the validator in the component scan, injects the autowired dependencies, but then ignores it and creates a new one at validation time. The only thing that I can do at the moment is add a validator reference into the controller for each validator object and use that ref directly, instead of relying on the bean validation framework to call the validator for me. It looks like this. // first validate via the annotations on the bean beanValidator.validate(accessCodeBean, result); // then validate using the specific validator class acbValidator.validate(accessCodeBean, result); if (result.hasErrors()) { If anyone knows how to convince spring to use the existing validator, instead of creating a new one, or how to make it do the autowiring when it creates a new one, I'd love to know.

• WCF: WTF! Does WCF raise the bar or just the complexity level?

  I understand the value of the three-part service/host/client model offered by WCF. But is it just me or does it seem like WCF took something pretty direct and straightforward (the ASMX model) and made a mess out of it? Is there an alternative to using SvcUtil's command line step back in time to generate the proxy? With ASMX services a test harness was automatically provided; is there a good alternative today with WCF? I appreciate that the WS* stuff is more tightly integrated with WCF and hope to find some payoff for WCF there, but geeze, otherwise I'm perplexed. Also, the state of books available for WCF is abysmal at best. Juval Lowy, a superb author, has written a good O'Reilly reference book "Programming WCF Services" but it doesn't do that much (for me anyway) for learning now to use WCF. That book's precursor (and a little better organized, but not much, as a tutorial) is Michele Leroux Bustamante's Learning WCF. It has good spots but is outdated in place and its corresponding Web site is gone. Do you have good WCF learning references besides just continuing to Google the bejebus out of things? Thanks, rp

  I've read that unmanaged resource are considered file handles, streams, anything low level. Does MSDN or any other source explain how to recognize an unmanaged resource? I can't seem to find any examples on the net that show unmanaged code, all the examples just have comments that say unmanaged code here. Can someone perhaps provide a realworld example where I would handle an unmanaged resources in an IDispose interface? I provided the IDisposable interface for your convience. • C# - update variable based upon results from backgroundworker

  I've got a C# program that talks to an instrument (spectrum analyzer) over a network. I need to be able to change a large number of parameters in the instrument and read them back into my program. I want to use backgroundworker to do the actual talking to the instrument so that UI performance doesn't suffer. The way this works is - 1) send command to the instrument with new parameter value, 2) read parameter back from the instrument so I can see what actually happened (for example, I try to set the center frequency above the max that the instrument will handle and it tells me what it will actually handle), and 3) update a program variable with the actual value received from the instrument. Because there are quite a few parameters to be updated I'd like to use a generic routine. The part I can't seem to get my brain around is updating the variable in my code with what comes back from the instrument via backgroundworker. If I used a separate RunWorkerCompleted event for each parameter I could hardwire the update directly to the variable. I'd like to come up with a way of using a single routine that's capable of updating any of the variables. All I can come up with is passing a reference number (different for each parameter) and using a switch statement in the RunWorkerCompleted handler to direct the result. There has to be a better way. • How do I correctly install dulwich to get hg-git working on Windows?

  I'm trying to use the hg-git Mercurial extension on Windows (Windows 7 64-bit, to be specific). I have Mercurial and Git installed. I have Python 2.5 (32-bit) installed. I followed the instructions on http://hg-git.github.com/ to install the extension. The initial easy_install failed because it was unable to compile dulwich without Visual Studio 2003. I installed dulwich manually by: git clone git://git.samba.org/jelmer/dulwich.git cd dulwich c:\Python25\python setup.py --pure install Now when I run easy_install hg-git, it succeeds (since the dulwich dependency is satisfied). In my C:\Users\username\Mercurial.ini, I have: [extensions] hgext.bookmarks = hggit = When I type 'hg' at a command prompt, I see: "* failed to import extension hggit: No module named hggit" Looking under my c:\Python25 folder, the only reference to hggit I see is Lib\site-packages\hg_git-0.2.1-py2.5.egg. Is this supposed to be extracted somewhere, or should it work as-is? Since that failed, I attempted the "more involved" instructions from the hg-git page that suggested cloning git://github.com/schacon/hg-git.git and referencing the path in my Mercurial configuration. I cloned the repo, and changed my extensions file to look like: [extensions] hgext.bookmarks = hggit = c:\code\hg-git\hggit Now when I run hg, I see: * failed to import extension hggit from c:\code\hg-git\hggit: No module named dulwich.errors. Ok, so that tells me that it is finding hggit now, because I can see in hg-git\hggit\git_handler.py that it calls from dulwich.errors import HangupException That makes me think dulwich is not installed correctly, or not in the path. Update: From Python command line: import dulwich yields Import Error: No module named dulwich However, under C:\Python25\Lib\site-packages, I do have a dulwich-0.5.0-py2.5.egg folder which appears to be populated. This was created by the steps mentioned above. Is there an additional step I need to take to make it part of the Python "path"?

• How to correctly set the ORACLE_HOME variable on Ubuntu 9.x?

  I have the same problem as listed here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/52239/oracle-lost-sysdba-password although I did not lose the password, I entered it twice in the configure script originally, and then when I went to login (localhost:8080/apex, password not accepted. I don't have anything in the database, I just want to install and use Oracle-XE. I have tried apt-get removing it twice and reinstalling, but if I try to run /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure again and I get "Oracle Database 10g Express Edition is already configured" despite the second time removing any folders I could find for Oracle XE. I tried running sqlplus "/ as sysdba" but all I get is: "Error 6 initializing SQL*Plus Message file sp1.msb not found SP2-0750: You may need to set ORACLE_HOME to your Oracle software directory" I tried setting the variable via export. (also tried set). Tried: "export ORACLE_HOME=/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/bin/sqlplus" and all the subdirectories of that. Same error every time. What is the ORACLE_HOME supposed to be set to? The only reference I have seen either just say general or say the above up to the version number then "/db_1". I do no thave a db_1. Let me know if need any clarification. Don't understand what I did wrong in this process.

• Setting up a "cookieless domain" to improve site performance

  I was reading in Google's documentation about improving site speed. One of their recommendations is serving static content (images, css, js, etc.) from a "cookieless domain": Static content, such as images, JS and CSS files, don't need to be accompanied by cookies, as there is no user interaction with these resources. You can decrease request latency by serving static resources from a domain that doesn't serve cookies. Google then says that the best way to do this is to buy a new domain and set it to point to your current one: To reserve a cookieless domain for serving static content, register a new domain name and configure your DNS database with a CNAME record that points the new domain to your existing domain A record. Configure your web server to serve static resources from the new domain, and do not allow any cookies to be set anywhere on this domain. In your web pages, reference the domain name in the URLs for the static resources. This is pretty straight forward stuff, except for the bit where it says to "configure your web server to serve static resources from the new domain, and do not allow any cookies to be set anywhere on this domain". From what I've read, there's no setting in IIS that allows you to say "serve static resources", so how do I prevent ASP.NET from setting cookies on this new domain? At present, even if I'm just requesting a .jpg from the new domain, it sets a cookie on my browser, even though our application's cookies are set to our old domain. For example, ASP.NET sets an ".ASPXANONYMOUS" cookie that (as far as I'm aware) we're not telling it to do. Apologies if this is a real newb question, I'm new at this! Thanks.

• Spring-hibernate mapping problem

  I have a spring-hibernate application which is failing to map an object properly: basically I have 2 domain objects, a Post and a User. The semantics are that every Post has 1 corresponding User. The Post domain object looks roughly as follows: class Post { private int pId; private String attribute; ... private User user; //getters and setters here } As you can see, Post contains a reference to User. When I load a Post object, I want to corresponding User object to be loaded (lazily - only when its needed). My mapping looks as follows: <class name="com...Post" table="post"> <id name="pId" column="PostId" /> <property name="attribute" column="Attribute" type="java.lang.String" /> <one-to-one name="User" fetch="join" class="com...User"></one-to-one> </class> And of course I have a basic mapping for User set up. As far as my table schema is concerned, I have a table called post with a foreign UserId which links to the user table. I thought this setup should work, BUT when I load a page that forces the lazy loading of the User object, I notice the following Hiberate query being generated: Select ... from post this_ left outer join user user2_ on this.PostId=user2_.UserId ... Obviously this is wrong: it should be joining UserId from post with UserId from user, but instead its incorrectly joining PostId from post (its primary key) with UserId from user. Any ideas? Thanks!

• Wordpress and Anythingslider Navigation Thumbnails

  So I am using AnythingSlider in Wordpress. This is why I am trying to call the thumbnails from the original posts. Anything slider will configure thumbnail navigation like this: function formatText(index, panel) { return index + ""; } $(function () { $('.anythingSlider').anythingSlider({ navigationFormatter: formatText // Details at the top of the file on this use (advanced use) }); }); As you can see, the navigationFormatter will allow me to format the nav (including thumbnails) however I want. For example, to format thumbnails, I could do this: navigationFormatter : function(i, panel){ // add thumbnails as navigation links return '<img src="images/th-slide-' + ['civil-1', 'env-1', 'civil-2', 'env-2'][i - 1] + '.jpg">'; } So my issue is getting the wordpress slide images to show up there dynamically, rather than in a folder (as the above example shows). For reference, this is my php query that is pulling the posts image (from a script I've already written: <img class="slider-img" style="float:left;" src="<?php if(function_exists('wp_get_post_image')){ echo wp_get_post_image(array( 'return_html' => false, 'width' => 500 )); } ?>" /> I hope this update helps. • Microsoft.Build.Engine Error (default targets): Target GetFrameworkPaths: Could not locate the .NET

  I am writing a webservice, that when called should build a C# project. I'm using the framework 2 reference, Microsoft.Buld.Engine and Microsoft.Build.Framework. If you look under the '<Import>' section .csproj file, by default it has: <Import Project="$(MSBuildToolsPath)\Microsoft.CSharp.targets" /> which I then changed to: <Import Project="$(MSBuildBinPath)\Microsoft.CSharp.targets" /> My code to build the csproj is: Engine buildEngine = new Engine(Path.Combine(Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("SystemRoot"), @"Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727")); FileLogger logger = new FileLogger(); logger.Parameters = @"logfile=c:\temp\build.log"; buildEngine.RegisterLogger(logger); bool success = buildEngine.BuildProjectFile([Path_Of_Directory]+ "ProjectName.csproj"); buildEngine.UnregisterAllLoggers(); The success variable returns a false because the build faild. I then check the build.log file and this is the error I recieve: *Build started 3/17/2010 11:16:56 AM. ______________________________ Project "[Path_Of_Directory]\ProjectName.csproj" (default targets): Target GetFrameworkPaths: Could not locate the .NET Framework SDK. The task is looking for the path to the .NET Framework SDK at the location specified in the SDKInstallRootv2.0 value of the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft.NETFramework. You may be able to solve the problem by doing one of the following: 1.) Install the .NET Framework SDK. 2.) Manually set the above registry key to the correct location. • Cannot connect Linux XAMPP PHP to SQL Server database.

  I've searched many sites without success. I'm using XAMPP 1.7.3a on Ubuntu 9.1. I have used the methods found at http://www.webcheatsheet.com/PHP/connect_mssql_database.php, they all fail. I am able to "connect" with a linked database through MS Access, however, that is not an acceptable solution as not all users will have Access. The first method (at webcheatsheet) uses mssql_connect, et.al. but I get this error from the mssql_connect() call: Warning: mssql_connect() [function.mssql-connect]: Unable to connect to server: [my server] in [my code] [my server] is the server address, I have used both the host name and the IP address. [my code] is a reference to the file and line number in my .php file. Is there a log file somewhere that would have more information about the failure, both on my machine and SQL Server? We do not have a bona-fide DBA, so I will need specific information to pass on if the issue seems to be on the server side. All assistance is appreciated, including RTFM when the location of the M is provided! Thanks
