  Hi, I have just started my first CI app. I have a view that displays some posts. Each post can have multiple comments and I want to display the total number of comments next to each post. • Mechanize form submit not going to the correct response page, no errors as to why. Something I'm doing?

  I threw this all in one controller for testing purposes. My code fills out the form correctly for adding a new address to your Amazon account. There are two buttons that submit this form, one takes you to add a new address which is what I don't want, and the other is just a Save & Continue input/image. When I submit the form via that button, as I do below, the form is still on the page, filled out as I have with my code. Inspecting the page titles, they're the same. There are no discernible errors that Mechanize or Amazon spit back. • Jquery conditionals, window locations, and viewdata. Oh my!

  I have one last thing left on a project and its a doozy. Not only is this my first web application, but its the first app i used Jquery, CSS and MVC. I have no idea on how to proceed with this. What i am trying to do is: In my controller, a waste item is validated, and based on the results one of these things can happen. The validation is completed, nothing bad happens, which sets ViewData["FailedWasteId"] to -9999. Its a new waste item and the validation did not pass, which sets ViewData["FailedWasteId"] to 0. Its an existing waste item and the validation did not pass, which sets ViewData["FailedWasteId"] to the id of the waste item. This ViewData["FailedWasteId"] is set on page load using <%=Html.Hidden("wFailId", int.Parse(ViewData["WasteFailID"].ToString()))%> When the validations do not pass, then the page zooms (by window.location) to an invisible div, opens the invisible div etc. Hopefully my intentions are clear with this poor attempt at jquery. The new waste div is and the existing item divs are dynamically generated (this i know works) " So my question here is... Help? I cant even get the data to parse correctly, nor can i even get the conditionals to work. • What is the meaning of @ModelAttribute annotation at method argument level?

  Spring 3 reference teaches us: When you place it on a method parameter, @ModelAttribute maps a model attribute to the specific, annotated method parameter I don't understand this magic spell, because i sure that model object's alias (key value if using ModelMap as return type) passed to the View after executing of the request handler method. Therefore when request handler method executes the model object's name can't be mapped to the method parameter. To solve this contradiction i went to stackoverflow and found this detailed example. The author of example said: // The "personAttribute" model has been passed to the controller from the JSP It seems, he is charmed by Spring reference... To dispel the charms i deployed his sample app in my environment and cruelly cut @ModelAttribute annotation from method MainController.saveEdit. As result the application works without any changes! So i conclude: the @ModelAttribute annotation is not needed to pass web form's field values to the argument's fields. Then i stuck to the question: what is the mean of @ModelAttribute annotation? If the only mean is to set alias for model object in View, then why this way better than explicitly adding of object to ModelMap?

• Best way and problems when using ajax tabs with an MVC PHP project

  Hi, I'm building an IMDB.com like website using PHP/jQuery and a MVC approach (no OOP). I have an index.php base controller to 'rule them all' :), a controllers folder with all the controllers, a models folder and a view folder. In some pages of the website I have tabbed navigation, when the visitor clicks on one of those tabs to get more information, jQuery gets that data using the $.post or $.get method and shows it on the tab container, obviously without refreshing the page. The problem is that those pages loaded by ajax are also generated using controllers, models, and views, and the things are getting a bit complicated for someone like me ( = 'no experience'). To dynamically get the data I some times need to include a model twice, include an include in an include in an include, send information multiple times, connect with the database again, and all sort of things like that and I'm sure there is a better and prettier way to do this. I'm searching for the best approach and common methods for this. I have no experience working with a big project like this. This is a personal project so I have full control and every answer is welcome. Thanks!!!

• Frame sizing of tableview within nested child controllers/subviews

  I'm a bit confused by the proper frame sizing of a table view to fit within my screen. Here's my setup of view controllers within view controllers: UITabBarController UINavigationController as one of the tab bar viewcontrollers; title bar hidden ViewController - a container view controller because I need the option to place some controls beneath the UITableView, sometimes (but not in the current scenario) UITableViewController Now, my question is what the proper frame dimensions of the UITableview should be. Here's what I've got in the ViewController viewDidLoad method. I used subtracted 49.0 (the size of the tab bar) from 480.0. However, this leaves a black bar at the bottom. 20.0 appears to do it (coincidentally?) the size of the status bar, but I don't understand why that would be. • Rails: Duplicate functionality across controllers? A humble plea.

  So I'm working with authlogic, and I'm trying to duplicate the login functionality to the welcome page, so that you can log in by restful url or by just going to the main page. No, I don't know if we'll keep that feature, but I want to test it out anyway. Here's the error message: RuntimeError in Welcome#index Called id for nil, which would mistakenly be 4 -- if you really wanted the id of nil, use object_id The code is below. Basically, what's happening is the index view (the first code snippet) is sending the information from the form to the create method of user_sessions controller. At this point, in theory, it create should just pick up, but it doesn't. PLEASE help. Please. I've been doing this for about 8 hours. I checked Google. I checked IRC. I checked every book I could find. • Can't use method from class in other file

  I am not able to use one of my methods that i implemented in my tableviewcell file in my tableview controller implementation. I tried searching the web and xcode help with no luck. • Pull To Refresh on iphone not working as expected

  I have been using this: http://blog.leahculver.com/2010/12/iphone-pull-to-refresh.html to make the pull to refresh function in my app. But I cant see the text "Pull down to refresh...", "Release to refresh..." and "Loading...". All I've done is copy the files into my project, link against QuartzCore framework, and changed the .h file of my view controller so it is a subclass of PullRefreshTableViewController. Then I added the refresh method. Is seems that the initWithStyle method in PullRefreshTableViewController never is executed.   I have a very basic load test question. I am running a load test using VSTS 2008 and I have test rig with controller + 10 agents. This load test is against a SharePoint farm I have. My goal of the load test is to find out the resource utilization on web+app+db tiers of my farm for any given load scenario. An example of a load scenario is Usage profile: Average collaboration (as defined by SCCP) User Load: 500 (using step load pattern=a step of 50 every 2 mins and a warm up time of 2mins for every step) Think time: 0 Load duration: 8hrs Now, the question is: Is it fair to expect that metrics like Requests/sec, %processor time on web front end / App / DB, Test/sec, and etc become flat or enter a steady state at one point in time during the load test. Like I said, the goal is not to create a bottleneck but to only measure the utilization of resources by the above load profile. I am asking this question because I see something different. At one point in the load test, requests/sec becomes more or less flat. But processor utilization on the web/DB servers keeps increasing. After digging through the data a bit, I see that "tests running" counter also steadily increased over time. So, if I run the load test for more than 8hrs, %processor may go up further. This way, I don't know what to consider as the load excreted by the load profile. What does this "tests running" counter really signify? How is this different from tests/sec? Another question is: how can I find out why "tests running" counter shows an increase overtime? Thanks for your time

• Remove in between folder structure from the url in a php website

  I have a php website having following folder structure (basic structure). project_name app controller model view css js img index.php So when I view index.php in WAMP the url is http://localhost/project_name/ But when I go inside the site (eg. login.php which resides under view folder) url is like this. http://localhost/project_name/app/view/login.php I found that using .htaccess we can change the urls. So I tried this (in .htaccess). RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / Redirect 301 /project_name/app/view/login.php /project_name/login.php RewriteRule ^/project_name/login.php$ /project_name/app/view/login.php [L] Now url is http://localhost/project_name/login.php It is correct. But it seems php does not use the original link to grab the file (ie. from /project_name/app/view/login.php) but from here /project_name/login.php So it throws 404 error. What should I change? Please help me, i am just trying to hide /app/view/ part from the url so that user won't see my folder structure. I have read about various ways of doing that for about 9hrs today but still couldn't get anything working correctly. Hope my question is clear enough. Any help is greatly appreciated!

• What to set the scalar type to contain a byte []. Entity in MVC2

  I'm trying out the EF 4.0 and using the Model first approach. I'd like to store images into the database and I'm not sure of the best type for the scalar in the entity. I currently have it(the image scalar type) setup as a binary. From what I have been reading the best way to store the image in the db is a byte[]. So I'm assuming that binary is the way to go. If there is a better way I'd switch. In my controller I have: //file from client to store in the db HttpPostedFileBase file = Request.Files[inputTagName]; if (file.ContentLength > 0) { keyToAdd.Image = new byte[file.ContentLength]; file.InputStream.Write(keyToAdd.Image, 0, file.ContentLength); } This builds fine but when I run it I get an exception writing the stream to keyToAdd.Image. The exception is something like: Method does not exist. Any ideas? Note that when using a EF 4.0 model first approach I only have int16, int32, double, string, decimal, binary, byte, DateTime, Double, Single, and SByte as available types. Thanks

• Get notified when UITableView has finished asking for data?

  Hi everyone, Is there some way to find out when a UITableView has finished asking for data from its data source? None of the viewDidLoad/viewWillAppear/viewDidAppear methods of the associated view controller (UITableViewController) are of use here, as they all fire too early. None of them (entirely understandably) guarantee that queries to the data source have finished for the time being (eg, until the view is scrolled). One workaround I have found is to call reloadData in viewDidAppear, since, when reloadData returns, the table view is guaranteed to have finished querying the data source as much as it needs to for the time being. However, this seems rather nasty, as I assume it is causing the data source to be asked for the same information twice (once automatically, and once because of the reloadData call) when it is first loaded. The reason I want to do this at all is that I want to preserve the scroll position of the UITableView - but right down to the pixel level, not just to the nearest row. When restoring the scroll position (using scrollRectToVisible:animated:), I need the table view to already have sufficient data in it, or else the scrollRectToVisible:animated: method call does nothing (which is what happens if you place the call on its own in any of viewDidLoad, viewWillAppear or viewDidAppear). • OpenLayers eraseFeatures doesn't erase features from map screen.

  I'm using OpenLayers, and have a layer for my Map, and a single Vector Layer. In this vector layer, I am using the DrawFeature control to draw a square. I have a listener waiting for a feature to be added, and then deleting any existing features (I only want one square at a time), like so: polygonLayer.events.register("beforefeatureadded", feature, function(evt){ console.log("Clearing existing polygons"); console.log(polygonLayer.features.length); polygonLayer.destroyFeatures(); polygonLayer.redraw(); });//end attempt at events registration When I check my layer.features.size, I can see that it's always 1, just like I expect, but the squares on the screen are still displayed. Even when I call .redraw() on the layer, the squares are still there. Is there some extra step I'm missing? Edit: You can find my code here: http://pastie.org/909644 Edit: Just realized: If I draw a square from previously existing coordinates, I can clear it just fine. It seems to be just the squares drawn from the controller that are an issue?

• NSMagedObjectContext, threads and NSFechedResultsController

  Dear iphone developers, Core Data newbie speaking here. In my application I have two NSManagedObjectContext that refer to that same NSPersistentStorageController. One ManagedObjectContext (c1) is in the main thread --created when I create a NSFetchedResultsController -- and the second ManagedObjectContext (c2) created in a second thread, running in the background, detached from the main thread. In the background thread I pull some data off a website and insert the entities created for the pulled data in the thread's ManagedObjectContext (c2). In the meanwhile, the main thread sits doing nothing and displaying a UITableView whose data do be display should be provided by the NSFetchedResultsController. When the background thread has finished pulling the data and inserting entities in c2, c2 saves, and the background thread notifies the main thread that the processing has finished before it exiting. As a matter of fact, the entities that I have inserted in c2 are know by c1 because it can ask it about one particular entity with [c1 existingObjectWithID:ObjectID error:&error]; I would expect at this point, if I call on my tableview reloadData to see some rows showing up with the data I pulled from the web in the background thread thanks to the NSFetchedResults controller which should react to the modifications of its ManagedObjectContext (c1). But nothing is happening! Only if I restart the application I see what I have previously pulled from the web! Where am I doing things wrong? Thank you in advance!

• Adding UIView on top of all views dynamically during runtime?

  Team, I am trying to bring a menu in top of all visible views during runtime. This menu should be easily addable and removable dynamically in certain conditions. To do this, I have tried adding a button view to the UIWindow as a subview during runtime. UIButton *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect]; [button addTarget:self action:nil forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchDown]; [button setTitle:@"Show View" forState:UIControlStateNormal]; button.frame = CGRectMake(80.0, 210.0, 160.0, 40.0); [window addSubview:button]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; [window bringSubviewToFront:button]; But it doesnt worked. Also I have tried to place this button in the root view controller, but no luck again. Edit - Note: This code is not from a UIViewController. I am trying to build a library this will be in that library code. Use case be like you could post NSNotification to enable and disable this menu dynamically during runtime. Please suggest. Thanks !

• Protecting routes with authentication in an AngularJS app

  Some of my AngularJS routes are to pages which require the user to be authenticated with my API. In those cases, I'd like the user to be redirected to the login page so they can authenticate. For example, if a guest accesses /account/settings, they should be redirected to the login form. From brainstorming I came up with listening for the $locationChangeStart event and if it's a location which requires authentication then redirect the user to the login form. I can do that simple enough in my applications run() event: .run(['$rootScope', function($rootScope) { $rootScope.$on('$locationChangeStart', function(event) { // Decide if this location required an authenticated user and redirect appropriately }); }]); The next step is keeping a list of all my applications routes that require authentication, so I tried adding them as parameters to my $routeProvider: $routeProvider.when('/account/settings', {templateUrl: '/partials/account/settings.html', controller: 'AccountSettingCtrl', requiresAuthentication: true}); But I don't see any way to get the requiresAuthentication key from within the $locationChangeStart event. Am I overthinking this? I tried to find a way for Angular to do this natively but couldn't find anything.

• Replacing one image with another image through ajax makes it dissappear for a split second

  I have the following code (asp.net-mvc, jquery) (i have simplified the example to show the issue) where i want to click on an image and have it replaced with another image. This works fine but the first time i click it, the original image disappears (for a split second) before the other image shows up. After that it works seamlessly. Is there any way to eliminate this quirk so there is not split second where no image is shown? • Pass Element value to $ajax->link in cakephp

  I need to pass the value of an element to an $ajax-link without using a form/submit structure. (because I have a dynamically set number of clickable links through which I am triggering the action) I used to do this in Ruby using the Prototype javascript function $F like this: <%= link_to_remote "#{item.to_s}", :url => { :action => :add_mpc }, :with => "'category=' + $F('mpc_category')" -%> But this does not seem to work in Cakephp: <?php echo $ajax->link(substr($vehicle['vehicles']['year'], -2), array('action' => 'add_mpc', 'category' => '$F("mpc_category")'), array('update' => 'results', 'position' => 'top')); ?> PHP sees $F as a variable instead of a call to javascript. I'm not too familiar with Javascript, but is there another way to pass the value of the 'mpc_category' input element to the controller through this link? I have been looking for a couple days and can't find anyone dealing with this specific issue. Thanks for any assistance. Edit: fixed syntax in php statement.

  When i use only langRoute and moduleRoute i have not any problems. But when i add pageRoute it is not work properly. I have tried many another ways do it (Regex etc) but none gives the desired result.   Hi, I'm trying to print a 2-dimensional array but can't figure it out. My controller uses this code: public ActionResult Test(string str) { DateTimeOffset offset = new DateTimeOffset(DateTime.Now); offset = offset.AddHours(-5); string[,] weekDays = new string[7,2]; for (int i = 0; i < 7; i++) { weekDays[i,0] = String.Format("{0:yyyy-MM-dd:dddd}", offset); //Date weekDays[i,1] = String.Format("{0:dddd}", offset); //Text offset = offset.AddHours(24); } weekDays[0,1] = "Today"; ViewData["weekDays"] = weekDays; return View(); } Now I wan't to print this array of weekdays as a dropdown-list and i thought this would work: <% foreach (var item in (string[,])ViewData["weekDays"]) { %> <option value=" <%= item[0] %> "> <%= item[1] %> </option> <% } %> But that's not the case, this code output just the first char of the string. • Still some questions about USB

  Hi, few days ago I asked here about implementing USB. Now, If I may, would like to ask few more questions, about thing I dind´t quite understood. So, first, If I am right, Windows has device driver for USB interface, for the physical device that sends and receives communication. But what this driver offers to system (user)? I mean, USB protocol is made so its devices are adressed. So you first adress device than send message to it. But how sophisticted is the device controller (HW) and its driver? Is it so sophisticated that it is a chip you just send device adress and data, and it writes the outcomming data out and incomming data to some internal register to be read, or thru DMA directly to memory? Or, how its drivers (SW) really work? Does its driver has some advanced functions like send _data to _device? Becouse I somewhat internally hope there is a way to directly send some data thru USB, maybe by calling USB drivers itself? Is there any good article, tutorial you know about to really explain how all this logic works? Thanks.
