  • How can I put a string and an integer into the same array?

    - by Stelios M
I have to following code. I want this to return an array e.g. arg[] that contains at arg[0] the number of the rows of my cursor and at arg[1] String(0) of my cursor. Since one is integer and the other is string I have a problem. Any ideas how to fix this? public String[] getSubcategoriesRow(String id){ this.openDataBase(); String[] asColumnsToReturn = new String[] {SECOND_COLUMN_ID,SECOND_COLUMN_SUBCATEGORIES,}; Cursor cursor = this.dbSqlite.query(SECOND_TABLE_NAME, asColumnsToReturn, SECOND_COLUMN_SUBCATEGORIES + "= \"" + id + "\"", null, null, null, null); String string = cursor.getString(0); int count = cursor.getCount(); String arg[] = new String[]{count, string}; cursor.close(); return arg; } The cursor and the results and correct i just need to compine them to an array in order to return that.

  • How do I get the raw dimensions of a bitmap in an ImageView?

    - by potatoe
It seems like I might be overlooking something obvious, but I can't figure out how to retrieve the raw (unscaled) dimensions of a bitmap being displayed in an ImageView. For example, if I load a bitmap using Bitmap b = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(...), I can get those dimensions from b.getWidth() and b.getHeight(), and I could pass the bitmap into an ImageView using setImageBitmap(b). But if I have a subclass of ImageView, is there any way to retrieve those dimensions without having to pass them in explicitly? I guess I'm looking for a getImageBitmap() analog of ImageView's setImageBitmap() method, which would retrieve a Bitmap object that I can call getWidth() and getHeight() on. Any other way to retrieve the original dimensions would work too, though.

  • A non-ugly way to persist dialog contents across orientation changes?

    - by alex
So I have a managed AlertDialog with a number of EditTexts & separate portrait + landscape layouts. The user opens the dialog in portrait mode, enters some text and then all of a sudden decides to pop out the keyboard. Now, I need to remove the dialog and recreate it for the changed layout persisting the text entered. What I can think of is getting references to the EdiTexts in onPrepareDialog(..), then getting the actual text in onConfigurationChanged(..), then removing the dialog, then showing it again, then populating it. Rather ugly, huh? Are there any better options?

  • How put <Spanned> into list.setAdapter?

    - by svebee
Simple but little tricky, if I have list.setAdapter(new ArrayAdapter<String>(this,R.layout.double_row, R.id.doubleRow, articleItemsHelper)); it works if articleItemsHelper is String, but I wanna have HTML formatting in there so when articleItemsHelper is type Spanned this (adapter) doesn't work. ArrayList<Spanned> articleItemsHelper = new ArrayList<Spanned>(); What's the solution?

  • Why activity result code is diffrent then I expected

    - by Fisher
I have 2 activities. In child activity i have put something like that in onPause(): if (isFinishing()) { final Intent intent = new Intent(); intent.putExtra(SOME_DATA, value); setResult(RESULT_OK, intent); Log.i("test", "Result set to RESULT_OK"); } In parent activity i check resultCode when child activity is destroyed, and this is what i have noticed: If i destroy child activity by some action (in some condition i invoke finish()), then resultCode is RESULT_OK But when i destroy by pressing return key (i works only in emulator so its ESC) who kills activity, then resultCode read in parent onActivityResult method equals 0 (RESULT_CANCELD). "test" log read in each case is the same.

  • How to have a run in an Service?

    - by user1497664
I have implemented an service that runs in a seperate process. This service contains a separate thread where i have a socket connection. This thread has a run() where it is continuously sending data to the port. My problem is after triggering the run() in the thread i don't get any contact with it anymore, i can see in the program that have open the socket that it consciously sends the data but the idea was that i while it is running i could change data that it sends for an example time. here is my run in the external thread: public void run() { if(run) { // Team and player names message is sent when entering in a game setBaseMessage(); SendMessageToCOMPort(base_message + CalculateCRC(base_message)); sleep(); // waits for 100 ms } } Anyone have any idea what might be wrong ?

  • How can I estimate server costs for creating an app?

    - by G Dottin
Im writing up a business plan and im having some trouble with the finance part. I put an estimate on the cost of developers, web designers and everything but server costs. Im not a programmer so I dont know all the details. But how much would you think servers are going to cost for a complex app. I cant get into too many details but it keeps track of user preferences, stores data about the user and there is quite alot of back-end to it.

  • Creating Linear Layout with TextViews using a for loop

    - by cad8
Hi all, I was wondering if there is a way to dynamically create an additional linear layout with a textview within a predefined liner layout. THis is my code so you get the gist of what I am asking: LinearLayout MainLL= (LinearLayout) findViewById(R.id.myLayoutId); for(int i=0; i<5; i++) { LinearLayout childLL= new LinearLayout(this); childLL.setOrientation(LinearLayout.VERTICAL); childLL.setLayoutParams(new LayoutParams(LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT)); childLL.setGravity(Gravity.LEFT); TextView text = new TextView(this); text.setText("The Value of i is :"i); text.setTextSize(12); text.setGravity(Gravity.LEFT); text.setLayoutParams(new LayoutParams(LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT)); childLL.addView(text); MainLL.addView(childLL); } My problem is that I am only getting "The Value of i is :0" as the output, i.e. the first instance. Any help would be much appreciated

  • How can I send Data from BroadcastReceiver to Widget?

    - by Yverman
    I have a BroadcastReceiver which loads data from the Internet and then it should send them back to a Widget. But how can I do this? What I've already done is updating the Widget directly from the Broadcast, but I like to just send de data back. public class UpdateManager extends BroadcastReceiver { @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { AppWidgetManager appWidgetManager = AppWidgetManager.getInstance(context); RemoteViews remoteViews = new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(), R.layout.widget); ComponentName thisWidget = new ComponentName(context, Widget.class); remoteViews.setTextViewText(R.id.widget_textview, "UPDATE DONE"); appWidgetManager.updateAppWidget(thisWidget, remoteViews); } }
