  • jQuery slideable divs with floated images how to make the right size.

    I am relatively new to using jQuery and I have a problem with creating some sliding tabs to work with images that are floated inside. http://www.dur.ac.uk/malachi.soord/jin/ The above page demonstrates the problem I am facing - click on the about tab and you will notice that the image that is inside is floated to the right - which I know is not taken into consideration when jQuery is calculates the height of each div tab with: $("#content > div").each (function() { $(this).css("height", $(this).height()); }); Is there a work around which could be used to allow me to take this into consideration? or is there a better way to achieve what I am trying to achieving.

    There is no questions: UI-First Software Development. But what does it takes to do the UI first? I started to build a website, a complicated one, and know I start to concern about the UI. Instead to start coding html+css, I decided to start with SkecthFlow. now, I'm very confused. Do I want to build a exact sketch? meaning to think about colors, fonts make sure that the button will look like a web link... etc, or just build the application sketch flow? meaning put a textboxes and buttons. Do I need to implement every thing in SketchFlow first? I'm looking for best practice.

  • R.java file not updating with UI element's id

    I added some UI elements to the main.xml file in the res\layout folder and when I try to access them through the call, R.layout.my_uielement, the UI element that I created is not there. Even when I add a new xml file with UI elements, it still doesn't show up in the R.layout class. I have made checked the ids on them and they have the correct format (I think): android:id="@+id/my_button". What could be the problem? Do I need to compile the code first?

  • Google analytics-style custom report builder UI

    I'm looking for a reporting engine/UI that can be integrated into a product, which has a UI along the lines of Google Analytics' Custom Reports builder. Is anyone aware of such a thing? The data is in our case is not page views/visitors/etc, but is similar in nature, in that there are limited entities or types of data, but each entity has many attributes/columns and many different ways of aggregating data (or in GA-style speak, metrics and dimensions). The analytics-style UI is very intuitive and allows many reports to be created in powerful ways, without having to know SQL. I have preference for a web-based tool (seeing that it is 2010 and this is a web app -- I mention only because it seems the vast majority of reporting tools still have only a non-web-based creation tool).

The snippet for that item looks like this: "ajaxUser":{ "file":"validateUser.php", "extraData":"name=eric", "alertTextOk":"* This user is available", "alertTextLoad":"* Loading, please wait", "alertText":"* This user is already taken"}, What I can't figure out at all is how its PHP page is working which is validateUser.php.   • Weird Behavior with Jquery image slideshow... Help!

    I built a jquery slideshow based on the tutorial found here: http://www.queness.com/post/152/simple-jquery-image-slide-show-with-semi-transparent-caption It seems to be working perfectly fine, except that it behaves strangley right at the beginning when it displays the first image. The first image appears like normal and then flashes, fades to white and disappears completely. After that, the first slide reappears and behaves normally, transitioning to the next image. The slideshow in question is center page on the right: http://www.loftist.com/ I am not a JS developer, so I am not sure how to troubleshoot this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

  • JSon/Jquery request with a setTimeout always returns a "null" result? (for Twitter Search API)

    I make a call to the twitter API. 100 posts are retreived + a properties that tells me what the next page to call is. So I wait 5 sec. and call that next page, but the JSon results in the callback function is always null the second time... I think it's probably a JQuery problem...     I can think of lots of ways to do this on my own, but I was hoping to find some sort of best practice and have been having trouble finding other's experiences. I want to create easily themed HTML and provide a real-time selector for the user to experiment with themes. I want to do something like the "Change Appearance" tab at http://my.yahoo.com . I'll be using jQuery. jQuery has a "theming" system, but it seems very much focused on jQuery widgets as opposed to the whole site, and also doesn't appear to address the real-time selection aspect (the jQuery page has this functionality, but I don't think it's part of the library.) Maybe there is a jQuery plugin that already does this? Or some sort of css/jQuery framework?

    Hi, I have a JQuery dialog that requires the user to enter certain information. In this form I have a "continue" button. I would like this "continue" button to only be enabled once all the fields have content in them else it will remain disabled. I wrote a function that is called everytime a field status has changed however I don't know how to enable and disable the dialog button from this function. Any ideas?   • How can I tell when changes to jquery html() have finished ?

    I'm using jQuery to change the HTML of a tag, and the new HTML can be a very long string. $("#divToChange").html(newHTML); I then want to select elements created in the new HTML, but if I put the code immediately following the above line it seems to create a race condition with a long string where the changes that html() is making may not necessarily be finished rendering. In that case, trying to select the new elements won't always work. What I want to know is, is there an event fired or some other way of being notified when changes to html() have finished rendering ? I came across the jQuery watch plugin, which works alright as workaround but it's not ideal. Is there a better way ?

    Hi, i have a basic jquery app that allows a user to edit and manipulate some lists on a page. What I would like to do is have a button 'restore original list' that the user can press to undo his modifications. What is the best way to do this? I was thinking of just copying the DOM from the list down, and pasting it in a hidden element someplace else on the page. Is this the best way to do this? I also noticed that jquery has a .data() function which I could use if I converted the data to an array and stored it this way. What are the advantages and disadvantages? Also, I'm open to any suggestions people have if there is some method I haven't thought of. Thanks for your help!

  • jQuery Click event on object added with JavaScript not working.

    I'm work on a quiz for school but I've bumped into a problem. I got a javascript file for custom radio buttons (CUSTOM FORM ELEMNTS by Ryan Fait if it's helping). The script hides the input buttons and adds custom styled spans instead. Now what I want, when I click one of these JavaScript added spans I want to remove disabled for a button called "Next Question" which when pressed takes you to the next question. The reason for this is that I don't want people to accidently got to the next question without choosing a answer. The problem is when I press the added spans nothing happens but when I press another identical span which I have added in the html it works just as intended. The span got the class radio which is the class I'm looking for in the jQuery. To prevent all images to load until their grey placeholder image is clicked you could do: $("img").lazyload({ placeholder : "img/grey.gif", event : "click" }); In this case is clicking the image, but how can I trigger the image load by clicking other element rather than the image itself (say an anchor link/button)?

  • jQuery and regex for adding icons to specific links?!

    I'm using jQuery to add icons to specific links, e.g. a myspace icon for sites starting with http://myspace.com etc. However, I can't figure out how to use regular expressions (if that's even possible here), to make jQuery recognize the link either with or without "www." (I'm very bad at regular expressions in general). Here are two examples: $("a[href^='http://www.last.fm']").addClass("lastfm").attr("target", "_blank"); $("a[href^='http://livejournal.com']").addClass("livejournal").attr("target", "_blank"); They work fine, but I now I want the last.fm link to work with http://last.fm, http://www.last.fm and http://www.lastfm.de.   • Website renders two scroll bars, is it the CSS, xhtml, or some jquery plugin?

    I've come to notice a bug on my website, I see that there's two scroll bars when the window is re-sized from a full sized window (my desktop's 1280x900). This issue is untraceable with Firebug and it shows up on all browsers. I'm using a JQuery UI script on the page as well but I'm not sure if that's what's doing this. What's a good way to go about getting rid of this? Or has anyone ever encountered having two scroll bars on the page? BTW: The in-page scroll bar is actually above the footer, if that helps.
