    I have a windows server 2008 R2 standard edition. The system suddenly stopped accepting remote desktop connections. When I tried to connect directly to the console, I am unable to start any applications. I got errors "The page file is to small to complete the action". Under takmanager in performance the system shows "Commit(GB) 127/127". What does this imply? The system has 32 GB ram, 5 raid disks each 150 Gb

    I have a rails app on an old Ubuntu server I need to move onto a new machine. I haven't worked with ruby on rails so I don't really know anything about the structure of the app. I want to load this onto an Ubuntu 8.04 AMI on Amazon EC2 and am looking for any information regarding the migration process such as: Do I copy over the entire folder defined as the application root in the mongrel config (for ex: /u/apps/myapp/current) or just certain folders? Am I looking for trouble if I go with the latest versions of ruby and the various gems? Any general gotchas to look out for in the process.     Given a Windows domain, with DNS provided by a server on that domain, I am curious about what happens if a guest joins the network attempting to use the same hostname as an existing server, and then tries to register that hostname in DNS with its DHCP address. Can this potentially be disruptive to the server, or is Windows DNS smart enough to spot a duplicate hostname and deny an auto-register request from that host? What actions can be taken to ensure that DNS for a hostname cannot be altered?

For example, I want to transfer chunk of 1024 (1K) bytes data and if the device has limitations of only 64bytes, is there any way I can increase the packet size for read() and write() system call over USB? Is there any limitation on size of data transfer over USB in a host-device environment?

  • RDC and black screen mystery

    The following are all Windows 7 64 bit Business edition computers. I have a PC (lets call it "PC1") that I remotely access now and again using Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) on my laptop downstairs. Sometimes when I physically go back to sit at PC1, the screen is black and there is no way for me to wake it into life, no login screen or anything - the PC is still on and I am always forced to do a hard reboot. What can I do to stop this happening, it's really annoying.

    Hi, What is the I/O load on the local disk system for the host OS in XenServer ? I can't find this info anywhere. As we have a SAN for the VMs themselves, can we get away with cheap controller / SATA disk in raid-1 for the hypervisor ? We won't boot from the SAN as it seems prone to problems. Thanks, Chris

    My goal is to find all pdf files on a remote machine, so I resort to the useful command find. So I type find ~ *.pdf or find ~ "*.pdf" and I get nothing. I do the same on my machine and I get nothing. I do a regular search from the menu on my machine and I find quite a few pdf files. Would somebody please tell me what am I doing wrong?

    Hi, I am quite inexperienced with DNS, so this might be simple. Our main domain foo.com is hosted at provider A. Now, we would like to host bar.foo.com at some other provider B - they have the domain set up with them, so I figure that I can do this by somehow adding the nameserver at provider B to the DNS configuration at provider A.
