• PHP SOAP client accessing server on non-standard port

  The service I'm trying to send requests to is accessible via a non-standard port - so not port 80. It is accessible locally via port 80. So I've tested the app locally and it works fine. But when I deploy it on the production server (not on the LAN), it fails. Once again for clarity: -dev server is on the LAN -SOAP server is on the LAN -production server is on the WAN -SOAP server is accessible through the NAT/FW via a non-standard http port (not 80) The soap client is created with the specified WSDL URI. For example: $this->client = new Zend_Soap_Client('http://server.com:10080/path/service.asmx?WSDL'); But queries to not work: $this->client->function($query); I get an: Internal Server Error Exception thrown. Is PHP broken in this regard? Is there a workaround?

• Visual Studio 2008 "Publish" option generates some empty folders

  When I right click an ASP.NET MVC solution and select the "Publish" option, the final output it generates contains several empty top-level folders. For instance, the "Service References" folder that gets automatically added when you add a service reference to a web app is generated without any files in it. Why are these folders generated at all if there's no content in them? Is there a way to let Visual Studio know to not bother publishing them? This isn't a big deal since it doesn't really affect the app (and before deploying I can always delete the empty folders), but it's a little annoying.

• Using rest-client to upload a paperclip attachment but getting no file found error

  Hello, I have a paperclip attachment that I wan to upload to a web-service using rest-client. However, when I try to run it, I get an error: No such file or directory - /system/postalimages/1/original/postcard-1.png?1274635084 But the file exists for sure: I see it in my directory. How do I debug this? • Is NetNamedPipeBinding binding guaranteed to work only on the same machine?

  Hi, I've created a Windows Service that uses WCF for communications to it. The service should be used be called only from the same machine. If I can guarantee that there's no way to communicate with it from another machine, I can consider it secured. Since I'm using communications on a single machine, I opted to used NetNamedPipeBinding. This bindings documentation says it's Optimized for on-machine communications, but does not give any guarantees. My questions is, does NetNamedPipeBinding provide on-machine-only guarantees? If not what binding does, or how would you go implementing a custom bindings that does provide such guarantees? Thanks, Asaf

  What is the purpose of IMetadataExchange endpoint. Some places i found that if i dont define this endpoint, adding service reference will not work OR creating proxy using svcutil wont work. But both of this working without having IMetadataExchange defined. If we have other endpoint with httpGetEnabled = true, we are able to create proxy from client. Also, some article says that we should delete IMetadataExchange before moving code to production and it should development period only so that other client cant see metadata. Doesnt this stop the behaviour of service having self describing itself? And if I have defined this IMetadataExchange endpoint, how can i see that on browser. Address whoch i have provided for this endpoint is not pulling any metadata in browser.

  Hello, I have a service which has a method that's called when a certain controller method is triggered. My service returns a custom result object PlacementResult in which I want to communicate errors that may have happened (validation) back to the controller method. Should PlacementResult have a ModelState or a ModelStateDictionary to communicate errors back to the controller (and finally view)? How would I string this together? Finally, how do I get the ModelState/ModelStateDictionary (whichever you tell me I should choose) back into the view (highlighting the appropriate text box, show the error message etc.)? Thank you !

• How to create multiple SOAP webservice clients in same netbeans 6.8 project

  I have a project that is largely just to help one application make connections to an SAP server, for real-time updates. So the first web service client works fine, but I try to create a second and it seems to hang and I expect part of the problem is that it is trying to create a new Service class, but the namespace for all the webservices are identical, but the wsdl is obviously different, so it can't create the client. I can do it manually, by just having Service1, Service2, etc, or making some other change, but the issue is that Netbeans should be able to do this easily. I can't use Eclipse as the wsimport parameters that Netbeans uses works, in Eclipse I would need to do too much to make it work, so I will go with the easier tool. I don't want to create a new project for each webservice, as that just seems to be perpetuating a design error. So, how can I easily create multiple webservice clients that will all have the same target namespace, using Netbeans 6.8+?

  I'm building the 2nd iteration of a web-based CRM+CMS for a franchise service business in ASP.NET MVC 2. I need to control access to each franchise's services based on the roles a user is assigned for that franchise. 4 examples: Receptionist should be able to book service jobs in for her "Atlantic Seaboard" franchise, but not do any reporting. Technician should be able to alter service jobs, but not modify invoices. Managers should be able to apply discount to invoices for jobs within their stores. Owner should be able to pull reports for any franchises he owns. Where should franchise-level access control fit in between the Data - Services - Web layer? If it belongs in my Controllers, how should I best implement it? Controller Implementation Access Control with [Authorize] attribute If there was just one franchise involved, I could simply limit access to a controller action like so: [Authorize(Roles="Receptionist, Technician, Manager, Owner")] public ActionResult CreateJob(Job job) { ... } And since franchises don't just pop up over night, perhaps this is a strong case to use the new Areas feature in ASP.NET MVC 2? Or would this lead to duplicate Views? Controllers, URL Routing & Areas Assuming Areas aren't used, what would be the best way to determine which franchise's data is being accessed? I thought of this: {franchise}/{controller}/{action}/{id} or is it better to determine a job's franchise in a Details(...) action and limit a user's action with [Authorize]: {job}/{id}/{action}/{subaction} {invoice}/{id}/{action}/{subaction} which makes more sense if any user could potentially have access to more than one franchise without cluttering the URL with a {franchise} parameter. • Referencing code in VB.NET

  I'm not at all familiar with VB.NET or ASP. I need to create a simple page which makes a call to a remote web service. I used the wsdl utility which comes with the DotNet SDK to generate a service proxy and write it to a VB file. Unfortunately I have no idea how to reference this code in either my ASPX file or the code behind VB file so I can create an instance of the proxy. Edit: I should have qualified this by noting that I'm not using visual studio. I just coded up a .aspx with a .vb behind it and dropped it into an IIS location. Is there a way to do what you're suggesting outside of VS?

  We have a Oracle Date column. At first in our Java/Hibernate class we were using java.sql.Date. This worked but it didn't seem to store any time information in the database when we save so I changed the Java data type to Timestamp. • Upload file via HTTP from VBA (WinHTTP)

  Hi all, I'm trying to HTTP upload a binary file programmatically from within VBA. I intend to put an ASPX page on the server. I know there are lots of nice ways to do that (e.g. use web service instead of aspx), but my constraint is that it must run in VBA (in an excel file), and that I cannot install any additional components on the client. So I guess I'll use WinHTTP, and I've found several examples to post form data, but not to post a binary file. I probably need to base64 the file contents? If so, please let me know. If I can make WinHTTP do file encoding for me, please let me know. If there is a much better way to reach my goal (Upload file from within VBA, server needn't necessarily be ASPX, could be a ASP.NET-Web service as well), please let me know... Thx, chiccodoro

  Hi all. Imagine a simple model. class Service belongs_to :user validates_associated :user accepts_nested_attributes_for :user end Nothing special right? The validations on the associated User model trigger correctly in development mode. But don't do anything in production. I've added a validates_on_presence :user just like the docs say. This triggers when there's no User associated with the Service, but fill in one thing on the User model and nothing happens! It's driving me up the walls. Am I overlooking something? • Wireless with WEP extremely slow on an Acer Timeline 4810T with a Centrino Wireless-N 1000

  I've upgraded an Acer Timeline 4810T to Ubuntu 11.10. Everything works fine except for the darn wireless interface (network manager). I just tested the wireless interface over a non-encrypted signal and it works beautifully. The issue is definitely related to WEP. Unfortunately, some of the networks I need to connect to are WEP encrypted, therefore this is a serious issue for me that is preventing me from using Ubuntu on my laptop. This was no problem in 11.04 and prior. Is there a simple solution for this? Any suggestions? Here's more hardware information. • Help find correct alsa model for onboard sound (alc887?) that will work with jack and have correct mixer setup

  I have a Gigabyte GA-MA74GMT-S2 motherboard. I am using Jack for sound - connected to ALSA. I am running Ubuntu 12.04. aplay -l reports card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC887 Analog [ALC887 Analog] The problem is that the default setup, that alsa decides to use, causes stuttering and xruns no matter how generous I set the frames/period or periods/buffer etc. Also, Jack works fine if I plug in an external USB sound system and use that. My processor is an AMD phenom x4 945, and I have 8GB ram, and Video card is Geforce GTX550 Ti, all of which should be quite capable enough. I also tried Pulseaudio and that works fine, but I need to use Jack At first I thought it might be an interrupt conflict, but I have found that adding "options snd-hda-intel model=generic" to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf causes it to play correctly, but the limited mixer setup lacks controls I need - so this setup isn't good enough. Still, it seems to prove it isn't a hardware conflict. I have tried many other models, such as 3stack, 6stack, auto and even basic, and they all suffer from the stuttering. I eventually found "options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-6ch-intel" works without stuttering, and mixer is much closer to what it needs to be. Can anyone help on how to get a correct and accurate model for ALSA to use? • Jabber integration into site and multiple domains

  Hi all, I'm creating a centralised web product, i.e. a customer gets assigned a personal domain, for example company1.example.com or company2.example.com and can then use our service. I'm planning to integrate a jabber service into the website. I have already found a decent jabber client library which I can use for the site. I know that jabberd2 uses mysql, which is perfect because I want to use the web interface to add users, delete users, view message logs etc. However, my problem is when I have two companies or more. I would like a jabber server which can host multiple domains, i.e. jabber.company1.example.com, jabber.company2.example.com Do you have any experience of this? And do you know of a good jabber server which will do this? Any help would be hugely appreciated!

Now if I run both applications and observe opened TCP connections using netstat, I find that: If both client and server are running on same machine, number of tcp connections are equal to number of proxy objects. It means all requests are being served in parallel. Which is good. If I run server on a separate machine, I observed that maximum 2 TCP connections are opened regardless of the number of proxy objects I create. Only 2 requests run in parallel. It hurts the processing speed badly. If I switch to net.tcp binding, everything works fine (a separate TCP connection for each proxy object even if they are running on different machines). I am very confused and unable to make the basicHttpBinding use more TCP connections. I know it is a long question, but please help!

  Hello colleagues. I've created wcf service with transport security over HTTPS. Also I use UserName authentication as described at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc949025.aspx, so I can use my Membership,RoleProvider. When I work with this service with ASP.NET all is OK var client = new RegistratorClient(); client.ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["registratorLogin"]; client.ClientCredentials.UserName.Password = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["registratorPassword"]; But at my SilverLight appliation I can't do the same. When I try setup credntials and call wcf I get standard browser window with username and password. When I insert it SL application works well, but this message is so annoyed. I can't use clientCredentialType="Basic" at my SL config. What should I do for silence calling my WCF. Big thanks

• Base64 Encode String in VBScript

  I have a web service load driver that's a Windows Script File (WSF), that includes some VBScript and JavaScript files. My web service requires that the incoming message is base64 encoded. I currently have a VBScript function that does this, but it's very inefficient (memory intensive, mostly due to VBScripts awful string concatenation) [Aside; Yes, I've seen Jeff's latest blog post. The concatenation is happening in a loop across messages that are 1,000's to 10,000's bytes in size.] I've tried using some custom string concatenation routines; one using an array and one using ADODB.Stream. These help, a little, but I think it would help more if I had some other way of encoding the message rather than via my own VBS function. Is there some other way of encoding my message, preferebly using native Windows methods?
