  • SQL Images in different tables

    I am storing images in a SQL database , right now I have images being stored in separate tables depending on the object the images belong to, is there any reason ( performance etc..) why I should keep it this way and not store all images in the same table?

    Hello, I'm doing some kind of performance evaluation using two different vanilla Linux kernels, 2.6.22 and 2.6.31, since I assume each of them uses a different scheduling mechanism: 2.6.22 uses the old O(1) scheduler, whilst 2.6.31 adopts the CFS. Could anybody confirm the correction of this assumption?

    Hi I would like to create a text box which loads xml files and let users edit them. However, I cannot use XmlDocument to load since the files can be very large. I am looking for options to stream/load the xml document in chunks so that I do not get out of memory errors -- at the same time, performance is important too.     Hi, Is there any other method than nHibernate by wich we can generate db schema from class definition? My classes arn't that complex etc (few one-to-many relations). However I would like to just be able to save my objects in db and recreate schema if needed. I am stuck with .NET 2.0. I am not that particular about performance for this project, I am just lazy to create tables and write save/load code and deel with nHibernate xml. Thanks

  • Considering getting into reverse engineering/disassembly

    Assuming a decent understanding of assembly on common CPU architectures (eg: x86), how can one explore a potential path (career, fun and profit, etc) into the field of reverse engineering? There is so little educational guides out there so it is difficult to understand what potential uses this has today (eg: is searching for buffer overflow exploits still common, or do stack monitoring programs make this obselete?). I am not looking for any step by step program, just some relevant information such as tips on how to efficiently find a specific area of a program. Basic things in the trade. As well as what it is currently being used for today. So to recap, what current uses does reverse engineering yield today? And how can one find some basic information on how to learn the trade (again it doesn't have to be step-by-step, just anything which can through a clue would be helpful).

  • Live javascript debugging by recording function calls and parameters

    Is there a debugging system that allows me to record javascript function calls and their parameters as they occur? this would allow me to trace and debug applications in live/client situations without the performance hit due to manual logging. Edit: I'm not talking about manually calling functions using a 'console' window and viewing the results, or manually adding 'trace' or 'log' commands into my javascript.     Hello, I'm trying to make a small program that could intercept the open process of a file. The purpose is when an user double-click on a file in a given folder, windows would inform to the software, then it process that petition and return windows the data of the file. Maybe there would be another solution like monitoring Open messages and force Windows to wait while the program prepare the contents of the file. One application of this concept, could be to manage desencryption of a file in a transparent way to the user. In this context, the encrypted file would be on the disk and when the user open it ( with double-click on it or with some application such as notepad ), the background process would intercept that open event, desencrypt the file and give the contents of that file to the asking application. It's a little bit strange concept, it could be like "Man In The Middle" network concept, but with files instead of network packets. Thanks for reading.

  • Get notified/receive explicit intents when an activity starts

    Hi, I am developing an application than gets notified when an activity chosen by a user is started. For this to work, the best approach would be to register a broadcastreceiver for ACTION_MAIN explicit intents, which as far as I know doesn't work (because these intents have specific targets). Another, probably less efficient approach, is to use the system ActivityManager and poll on the getRunningTask() which returns a list of all running tasks at the moment. The polling can be done by a background service. By monitoring the changes in this list, I can see whether an activity is running or not, so that my application can get notified. The downside is ofcourse the polling. I have not tried this yet, but I think that this last approach will probably work. Does anyone know of a better approach(es) or suggestions which are less intensive?
