• fastcgi-mono-server with Nginx is much slower than xsp4

  We started testing our MVC4 app on xsp4 server compiled with mono-3.0.3, speed was enough and we decided to set up production fastcgi-mono-server4 (version 2.11.0.0) with nginx (1.2.6-r1). Single query that loads some JSON query took ~200ms on XSP4, but Nginx serves the query in about 1.2s and I am wondering where could be such a slow down? I followed nginx configuration: http://www.mono-project.com/FastCGI_Nginx and fastcgi-mono-server4 uses socket for listening nginx. Do you have any ideas how to log some time stamp which will help me? Thanks

• Django fails to find static files served by nginx

  I know this is a really noobish question but I can't find any solution despite finding the problem trivial. I have a django application deployed with gunicorn. The static files are served by the nginx server with the following url : myserver.com/static/admin/css/base.css. However, my django application keep looking for the static files at myserver.com:8001/static/admin/css/base.css and is obviously failing (404). I don't know how to fix this. Is it a django or an nginx problem ?   Which is the better configuration/optimization: to explicitly limit the keepalive_timeout or to allow Nginx to kill keepalive connections on its own? I have seen two conflicting recommendations regarding the keepalive_timeout directive for Nginx. They are as follows: # How long to allow each connection to stay idle; longer values are better # for each individual client, particularly for SSL, but means that worker # connections are tied up longer. (Default: 65) keepalive_timeout 20; and # You should remove keepalive_timeout from your formula. # Nginx closes keepalive connections when the # worker_connections limit is reached. The Nginx documentation for keepalive_timeout makes no mention of the automatic killing, and I have only seen this recommendation once, but it intrigues me. This server serves exclusively TLS-secured connections, and all non-encrypted connections are immediately rerouted to the https:// version of the same URL.

• Two domains hosted on the same server with different root folder shows up the same homepage

  I have hosted two domains from GoDaddy at Linode VPS. They are mobiletoast.com and lesseltechnologies.com Thought the latter site has a separate index folder, whenever I navigate to it, I get the homepage of mobiletoast.com The strange thing is, I see the expected page (It works), when I open the site from my mobile phone. But when I open the site from my PC (any browser, without any cache, hard refresh), I get the homepage of mobiletoast.com The Linode support team says, they see the correct "It works" page. But I am not able to see that page. • Enterprise Portal Issue with the Ax Demo VPCs

  Microsoft’s Ax Demo VPC is basically configured for a static IP address 192.168.0.1, this is due to the fact that the VPC has Domain Controlller configured in it which requires a static IP. When we put this VPC on a network with a different subnet and change the IP you can observer that the site http://sharepoint and http://sharepoint/EP cease to function and show “Page Not Found” errors in the browser. This is mainly due to the DNS configuration which is not updated. Below is the screen shot of the changes that needs to be done to make the site functioning properly. Change the following entries in the Forward Lookup Zones of DNS management: These websites default, SharePoint and projectserver are all mapped to a single port in the IIS i.e. port number 80. These websites are recognised with host headers. These host headers are configured in DNS with incorrect IP address entries in DNS when you change the IP address of the VPC. Just change these values to point to the Local Loop Adapter (127.0.0.1) and change the DNS to point to this address in the TCP/IP properties as shown below: This will resolve the issue with the website rendering. Initially you may get time out errors while browsing these website. be patient and try again this would work.

  I have my server set up with several public IP addresses, with a network configuration as follows (with example IPs): eth0 \- br0 - 1.1.1.2 |- [VM 1's eth0] | |- 1.1.1.3 | \- 1.1.1.4 \- [VM 2's eth0] \- 1.1.1.5 My question is, how do I set up iptables with different rules for the actual physical server as well as the VMs? I don't mind having the VMs doing their own iptables, but I'd like br0 to have a different set of rules. Right now I can only let everything through, which is not the desired behavior (as br0 is exposed). Thanks!

I have also tried to reinstall the windows 7 using USB but it gives error of something UI or Boot configuration error. Even now Ubuntu 12.04 is also not reinstalling. Now what I want to do is install windows 7 and install ubuntu 12.04 in virtual box so that I can run both system as this is not working. But can't because I can't open Window 7 even can't format my drive. Please suggest something.

• Google Chrome on Ubuntu 12.04 not rendering webpages correctly

  I am facing some serious web page rendering issues with Chrome. It is more prominent during javascript based animations and stuff on websites like youtube. I have tried removing chrome using (sudo apt-get purge google-chrome-stable) and then reinstalling it. But the problems still persist. The same webpages work correctly on firefox on ubuntu and chrome on windows. The problem only shows up when I use chrome on ubuntu. I think the issue has started after I updated to the latest version of Chrome. I have used Chrome previously on this machine without any problems. I have attached a image that demonstrates the issue. What could possibly be the problem? • Powershell and DfsrConfigurationFromAD - how to check all servers are updated?

  I have two Win2012R2 servers (SERVER1 and SERVER2) that uses DFS Replication for keeping a couple of folders synchronized. Using the following Powershell-script that i run on SERVER1 I disconnect it from the group: Set-DfsrConnection -GroupName "Group1" -SourceComputerName "SERVER1" -DestinationComputerName "SERVER2" -DisableConnection $True; And to update both the servers with the configuration I run the command: Update-DfsrConfigurationFromAD -ComputerName "SERVER1","SERVER2" Now the question is, how can check on SERVER1 that SERVER2 has gotten the updated information from the AD so that I can be sure that the connection has been disabled? Usually it takes around 10-30 seconds after the Update-DfsrConfigurationFromAD command has been run before the DFS Management on SERVER2 gets updated but I need some kind of a "check and sleep loop" in my code. I've tried checking event logs and using Invoke-Command {Get-DfsrConnection} from PM-SERVER01 but nothing seems to work.

  We are students and we have to make a project by using SharePoint. We have already learned the basic steps of SharePoint 2010 but now we have some problems with using the Active Directory. We've deleted SharePoint from the server and afterwards we've installed the AD-role and finished dcpromo. When we’ve reinstalled SharePoint 2010, we have some problems in the configuration of SharePoint. It automatically ask for a Databaseserver but we don't have one in the company of our project. My question is if there is any possibility to use SharePoint with AD and without a Databaseserver. If it is possible it would be nice to tell me how.

• What can impact the throughput rate at tcp or Os level?

  I am facing a problem, where running the same application on different servers, yields unexpected performance results. For example, running the application on a particular faster server (faster cpu, more memory), with no load, yields slower performance than running on a less powerful server on the same network. I am suspecting that either OS or TCP is causing the slowness on the faster server. I cannot use IPerf , unless i modify it, because the "performance" in my application is defined as Component A sends a message to Component B. Component B sends an ACK to component A and ONLY then Component A would send the next message. So it is different from what IPerf does, which to my knowledge, simply tries to push as many messages as possible. Is there a tool that can look at OS and TCP configuration and suggest the cause of slowness?

So what is the best way to achieve that? 1. Make it dual boot? (but I don't know if that is possible with MacBook) 2. Install Virtual Box and then put Ununtu on top of it? • Logging off does not kill process in Windows Server 2003

  I have a Windows Server 2003(Enterprise, SP2). My understanding was that any process created by a user will be terminated when the user loggs off the account. But its not happening. I login via Administrator account. Start a simple java process and logoff. But the process is not killed. Is there any configuration for this or something? I am mostly a software programmer and not much in to servers and so I am stuck. I found out that while logging off, 1) Win32 is supposed to send a CTRL_LOGOFF_EVENT to all processes started by that user. 2) JVM is supposed to handle this event and terminate the VM. But I can't understand why my java process is not killed when i logoff. Any idea!!!

  I've seen a lot of tutorials showing one how to set up PHP/Python/Perl/RoR on nginx via various FCGI processes. None of the tutorials that I found show one how to serve multiple FCGI services off one server. How would one configure the stable nginx (nginx-0.7.64) to serve multiple FCGI processes (one for each of the above languages)? Example addresses for each FCGI process are as follows: 127.0.0.1:8080 - PHP 127.0.0.1:8081 - Python 127.0.0.1:8082 - Perl 127.0.0.1:8083 - Ruby on Rails An example configuration file that shows one how to implement multiple FCGI's off one server is really what I need. Perhaps others will benefit as well.

• Displaying Datamatrix in application error screen

  Quite often we will get a report from a user in the field saying there was an error in our application. Frequently this leads to the typical round of "What was the error?" "I don't know, it was just an error." We of course log these faults to the log files, and we can even enable detailed debug logs, but this involves the end user changing a setting in the configuration file and then finding the correct files and then emailing them to us. As I'm sure you can all imagine, there are plenty of pitfalls and alligators in this methodology. Recently a couple of people have used their cell phone to email me a "screen capture" of the fault, and while this helps, we still have to scrutinize the image to find the exact fault, and if enabled, the stack trace. So this evening, I had the brilliant idea (IMHO) to encode the fault into a Datamatrix barcode image and then encourage users to send me a picture from their cell phone. I can then decode the datamatrix and get a parse-able error message! Our core technology is machine vision, so the decoding of the datamatrix image would be trivial, I just need to find a method of generating the actual image to display in the fault handler. Thoughts?

  So, my entire application runs on apache just fine. However, I want to test how much the requests per second increases if I put all static files through nginx instead. I'm completely new to nginx, so I'm not sure where to put the configuration. (The file is at /etc/nginx/nginx.conf, but I don't know if I just add the code to the bottom or what?) Also, how can I have both servers running at the same time? Is it because they both listen on port 80? Right now I have to stop one to start the other, and that's as far as I've gotten. So how can I achieve the same effect as sender_dependent_relayhost_maps but looking at the From or Subject headers instead of merely the user?

• Bad HD video deinterlacing processing

  I have Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit with Unity. My system configuration is: CPU: Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4 GHz) RAM: 8192 Mb DDR2 Kingston Video: Palit GeForce GTX 260 216 SP, and my screen resolution is 1680x1050. I also have Window 7 Ulitimate installed, and I can see the same files in Media Player Classic without any horizontal lines. I've installed vdpau driver, NVIDIA drivers 304.51, and MPlayer 2 (within SMPlayer). I've disabled "Sync to VBlank" option in CCSM (because in other way, by default, MPlayer process use about 50-60 percents of my processor load), tried to swich between different deinterlace options in SMPlayer, used "-vc ffh264vdpau,ffmpeg12vdpau" (without quotes) parameters for MPlayer, switched to "Ubuntu 2D", but, finally, have no results. Any suggestions? How must I to set up MPlayer?

Also, ping ignores many other parameters, again, by exiting silently. I failed to find any references that DD-WRT has a limited version of ping whatsoever. I also don't think it can be a permissions issue as mentioned here since the only user with DD-WRT is root. What's wrong?

• Text on Cisco ASA console is garbled/missing letters

  I've actually looked up a number of solutions for this problem and none of them work. There's this Cisco ASA 5505 that I'd like to use, that outputs mildly garbled text with missing characters. I did some googling and found that the most likely problem is a bad baud rate, so I tried all the baud rates, 7N1, 8N2... basically every possibility minicom had. Then I figured (since I can type ok, just not read) that if I factory reset it that it would fix whatever is set wrong with the terminal. That didn't work either. This usb-db9 adapter and console cable work fine on the catalyst switch in our office. My serial settings are 9600 8N1 with no flow control. Anyone know how to fix this?   Using 64-bit Ubuntu 11.10 and integrated (Intel) graphics, I can run the 1600x900 laptop display plus a 1600x1200 external monitor connected to the VGA adapter. But my external monitor is 1920x1200 so I have black stripes on each side. I believe the resolution is limited like this as the maximum resolution available from the Intel GPU is 2560x1600 = 4,096,000 pixels and I'm asking for a 3520x1200 = 4,224,000 display (with 1200x300 lost above the laptop screen). At 3200x1200 = 3,840,000 pixels, the Intel GPU seems happy. Under Windows, the same limit exists when using the VGA adapter, but if I turn Optimus on then I can connect the external monitor to the DisplayPort and get its full resolution and an extended desktop. I've seen that Bumblebee can run apps on the DisplayPort using the 'optirun' command. My question is: can Bumblebee run the DisplayPort in concert with the Intel card running the laptop screen creating a large virtual desktop (as on Windows)? If so, are there any pointers to how to do this? I tried once, failed, and dropped back to Integrated Graphics (and black stripes) as I could find no reports of this configuration working.
