  Okay, a couple days ago I built a bare bones kit into a machine. I've been running through tutorials to get it to work and right now I've gotten as far as making it available in my lan, hooray! However, I cannot access the repositories remotely. Any machine on the lan can easily access it through the hostname or, using 'outbound ip/hostname' or 'outbound ip/machine ip'. The machine can be pinged from a remote, non-lan machine and responds. I just can't get anyone into it outside of my lan. I've been trying to figure it out but I'm lost. I'm breaking a few rules and if any of these would be my problem, please indicate. I don't think I have a static IP (However I check my outbound IP whenever I do testing, is that not enough? It has stayed the same for 5+ days) I have not discussed this set-up with my service provider (Does Optimum Online block port 80? If so, can I just switch apache to listen on a different port?) I am in the DMZ of my router. This is what allowed it to be pinged remotely. For security reasons the machine that is in that zone is turned off most of the time until I can get it locked down. Any help would be appreciated, even if it's just a couple of words I could google to understand what I'm doing wrong. Tortoise SVN does not allow access remotely, but it does within the LAN as well.

• linux nooB: Installing ffmpeg + dependencies on aws linux ami (repo issues)

  Im installing ffmpeg to run on an amazon linux ami, and have added the rpmforge repo and the dag repo. Here are some guidelines I'm using for reference: TWoZaO and Razuna The rpmforge repo has ffmpeg, but if you try to install it then it will complain that is missing dependencies (for me libSDL-1.2.so.0()(64bit)). Regardless I will install ffmpeg from svn so I can be sure to enable the options I want (namely libx264). It seems strange to me though that SDL is not in rpmforge or dag, and in according to both of my references above, it should be there. • Recover files from corrupt filesystem

  My situation: I have an older 80GB IDE internal hdd, with a few files on that I would like very much to recover: some word documents some latex documents (text files) and pictures (png, jpg, eps files) some other text documents and visual studio project files I had backed them (not the latex ones though) up using svn, but have not committed lately, and would loose a lot of work if I cant recover. the hdd seems to have lost its filesystem, i have no idea how it came about. I know it has/had 3 NTFS partitions, i know the files i want are on the second or third partition. I read http://superuser.com/questions/81877/recover-hard-disk-data Partition Find and Mount did not see all the partitions using intelligent scan TestDisk does (i think), I followed the step by step instructions here, but when I try to list the files it says: "Can't open filesystem, filesystem seems damaged." I'm not sure how to proceed here, as TestDisks wiki does not contain this error message afaik. I don't know if the hdd is gonna fail, or some prog has caused the filesystem to be corrupt, the hdd doesnt make a sound, so i guess that's good. I would like some guidance so I don't accidentally cause more damage. (eg. is it ok to let testdisk write the filesystem to disk? I'm pretty the partitions are listed ok, but not 100%)

The original image The SVG file from inkscape Link to SVG Progress: I tried a tool called InkscapeMap which looks promising and simple, but unfortunately it looks like it didn't work with this particular svn file. Solved! Saving the file as a Plain SVG solved the problem and InkscapeMap worked perfectly. (Btw. saving as an optimized svg caused a parsing error) Update 13.11 Using inkscapeMap 0.6 and Inkscape 0.48 i needed to uncheck relative coordinates in SVG output preferences. Also if you get a C error message, hunt down the polygon with a C in it, and redraw the polygon using the XML editor in inkscape. • Eclipse grinds to a halt when building workspace

  Hi all, This is a bit of a vague question because, frankly, I don't even know where to begin diagnosing the issue. My eclipse (Galileo) installation grinds to a complete halt when it's building the workspace -- to the point where I can't even type. I know the Android SDK I have installed is a major culprit because I can watch the memory usage go through the roof (through the built-in heap monitor) when the Android SDK content loader starts up. Every time I save a file though, the program just stops. The message at the bottom of the screen says Building workspace (74%) and sits there for about 30 or so seconds before completing and returning the performance to normal. I have a few other plugins installed (Maven, SVN, etc) but I'm assuming the main issue is Android. Has anybody had similar issues or any luck correcting this sort of problem? If there's anymore information you think would be helpful, just let me know...I didn't want to do a core dump on this question... I'm running it on Windows 7 64-bit for what it's worth. Thanks!   I use a Linksys WRT54GL router with DD-WRT v24-sp2 (10/10/09) std (SVN revision 13064) which I am trying to make forward all HTTP and HTTPS traffic to an external app called Fiddler (used as proxy) on port 8888. • ffmpeg rotate mp4 90º

  Hi, can I rotate(+save / reencode) a .mp4 with ffmpeg? The only thing I found was on the mailinglist saying -vfilters "rotate=90" but ffmpeg says no vfilters. Tried -vf, it says there is no rotate. If I try to do it in VLC it simply does not rotate and kills the audio (did the vlc encoding EVER work? Every single freakin video I throw at it gets fu****d up in some way -_- ) I'm on a MAC and don't have iWork. Any ideas? • subdomains to different VMs on one IP address

  I have a setup at home with an ESXi server Freenas server and several win7 clients. I have a domain refactoringme.com I set the @ and WWW domain record to my (current) IP address. I then forwarded port 80 to my local win2k3 server on my Linksys router and used host name matching to run the 5 test sites I have. That all works. Now I want to use the turnkey machines and move to dedicated VM servers. One for a wiki one for SVN etc. So how do I get www.refactoringme.com to go to one internal IP address and wiki.refactoringme.com to different internal IP address, while they both use the same external IP address? I added the additional record for wiki to my domain and pointed it to @. I figured it had to be involving a real firewall. So I installed PFSense on a VM and set it on the DMZ on my Linksys. From this point I haven't had any luck. I thought that maybe it would be in the DNS Forwarder or maybe in the Rules sections but neither have worked. Am I doing it wrong or on the right track but am missing something. Thanks for all the help.

  I have a Windows 7 (Home Premium) machine that doubles as a media centre and subversion server. There's a couple of problems with this setup, when connecting to the server from an XP (SP3) machine: Firstly, the machine won't respond to it's machine name until after it's IP address has been pinged.   I am having very often internet disconnection problem with Squid proxy service. My server config; OS: CentOS release 6.3 (Final) model name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz cpu MHz : 1600.000 My Local systems IP range:192.168.2.x Server IP: 192.168.2.11 Also this server is configured with lamp for development,Samba SMB file service manager and No svn currently. So i see maximum possibility is this squid proxy since this is where it stops to connect and am sure when i restart the server net started working so something wrong with this squid service only. And this server is connected with local 14 other windows machines and basically serves as a central development node. I am able to resolve it by restarting the server fully some time or sometimes by restarting the squid proxy which is totally killing our development. I have attached my cache log file here for the error info. • Free web-based software for team collaboration/documentation

  Looking for some advice here, as my search has turned up to be pretty fruitless. My group (9 people - SAs, programmers, and two network guys) is looking for some sort of web tool to... ahem... "facilitate increased collaboration" (we didn't use a buzzword generator, I swear). At the moment, we have an unified ticketing system that's braindead, but is here to stay for political/logistical reasons. We've got 2 wikis ("old" and "new"), neither of which fulfill our needs, and are therefore not used very often. We're looking for a free (as in both cost and open source) web-based tool. Management side: Wants to be able to track project status, who's doing what, whether deadlines are being met, etc. Doesn't want full-fledged "project management" app, just something where we can update "yeah this was done" or "waiting for Bob to configure the widgets". TeamBox (www.teambox.com) was suggested, but it seems almost too gimmicky, and doesn't meet any of the other requirements: Non-management side: - flexible, powerful wiki for all documentation (i.e. includes good tables, easy markup, syntax highlighting, etc.) - good full text search of everything (i.e. type in a hostname and get every instance anyone ever uttered that name) - task lists or ToDo lists, hopefully about to be grouped into a number of "projects" - file uploads - RSS or Atom feeds, email alerts of updates We're open to doing some customizations (adding some features, notification/feeds, searching, SVN integration, etc.) but need something F/OSS that will run under Apache. My conundrum is that most of the choices I've found so far fall into one of these categories: project management/task tracking with poor wiki/documentation/knowledge base support wiki with no task tracking support ticketing system with everything else bolted on (we already have one that we're stuck with) code-centric application (we do little "development", mostly SA work) Any suggestions? Or, lacking that, any comments on which software would be easiest to add the lacking features to (hopefully ending up with something that actually looks good and works well)?

• Installing ffmpeg + dependencies on AWS Linux AMI (repo issues)

  I'm installing ffmpeg to run on an Amazon linux AMI, and have added the rpmforge repo and the dag repo. Here are some guidelines I'm using for reference: TWoZaO and Razuna The rpmforge repo has ffmpeg, but if you try to install it then it will complain that is missing dependencies (for me libSDL-1.2.so.0()(64bit)). Regardless I will install ffmpeg from svn so I can be sure to enable the options I want (namelylibx264). It seems strange to me though that SDL is not inrpmforgeordag`, and in according to both of my references above, it should be there. • OpenWrt vs DDWrt

  I have a TP-Link Wr1043ND router and I want to install one of these two firmwares: OpenWRT DD-WRT I read that I can install custom packages and do much more than I can with the original firmware. I would like to ask someone with experience in using both OpenWRT and DD-WRT which he would recommend and why. And to give a few reference points I'm interested in: reliability – network stability both on cable and wireless and on the usb drive performance – network speed, very important also usb drive speed configurability – the possibility to add extensions such as a torrent client, FTP, SSH, WWW and SVN server directly ease of use – the ease of installation and configuration of the router support/docs – how much info there is if you stumble upon a problem and you have to find some documentation, or if there's any free support (but that's a longshot) Of course I don't imagine that I will find the perfect firmware and that one is vastly superior over the other. Also if there's anyone out there who uses one of these firmwares on a TP-Link Wr1043ND, it would be great to get some feedback about the impact of the changes from the original firmware. P.S. I'm open also for Tomato if it's the better one.

• Windows 7 x64 RTM USB Port Has Power But Won't Recognize Mouse/Keyboard/Anything

  I have an odd error that doesn't seem to fit in with any of the other odd Windows 7 x64 USB errors that have been kicked up on Google. Here we go: Uninstalled Tortoise SVN and clicked restart computer. My machine had been up for around 28 days On reboot my mouse and keyboard failed to work anymore, couldn't log in. Tried every USB port I have on my Dell 390 and the ports on my Dell 19's, nothing worked. They had power but Windows would not respond when I manipulated the keyboard/mouse. Rebooted my computer and pressed F2 to get into bios, my keyboard is working fine in bios. Keyboard and mouse work fine on other computers when using USB. Found adapters for keyboard and mouse to convert from USB to PS/2 ports, works fine. I'm actually typing this question on the same keyboard, same computer, just using PS/2 ports for my mouse and keyboard. It appears to be a Windows 7 x64 issue. Other things I have tried: Multiple other mice and keyboards, iphone, all with no luck. Each one gets power, but Windows never tries to install drivers or sees that they are connected. Uninstall and reinstall all USB drivers. Drives uninstall and reinstall fine and report no errors in Control Panel. In Power Management I disallow Windows from turning off USB ports to save power Installed the latest nVidia drivers for my graphics card, no change. Anyplace else I can look/try? Thanks!

• Unable to remove Read-Only attribute from folder in Windows XP

  I have this directory which I cannot remove the read only attribute from. The computer is running XP SP2 (or SP3, not sure) and the directory sits in a NTFS file system. Looking into the web I found this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256614 which tells that if the directory is "customized" it's treated as a system folder and thus "read only". I don't think this is a scenario in my case, but anyway it's not helping, their recommendation is more or less: attr -r -s /d /s d:\data and this is not working for me. Any other ideas? More info: The directory is served to an HTTP server (wamp) and the directory is an SVN check out. What happens is that the web server cannot write files into the directory (imagechace from drupal is you are really interested). Edit 2: The original post claimed that the directory sits on a VFAT FS, however I booted Fedora 11 from livecd and the partition is marked as NTFS. Edit 3: I left the company which I worked on, on which this situation happened... so I cannot fully close this question. But things get even worse: I tested the "attr -r" answer I put, it did not work for me, and now the developer said that it worked for her. A nice WTF moment. Probably a reboot helped... Sorry for loosing details. If anyone has the same problem, and one of the answers helps him - please comment.

• Per connection bandwidth limit

  Apparently, our server box running Windows Server 2008 R2 has a per connection bandwidth limit of 0.2 MB/s. Meaning, while one TCP connection can pull at max 0.2 MB/s, 60 parallel connections can pull 12 MB/s. We first noticed this when trying to checkout large SVN repository from this server. I used a simple Java application to test this, transferring data from server to workstation using variable number of threads (one connection per thread). Server part of the application simply writes 1 MB memory buffer to socket 100 times, so there is no disk involvement. Each connection topped at 0.2 MB/s. Same per connection limit was for only one as was for 60 parallel connections. The problem is that I have no idea from where this limit comes from. I have very little experience administrating Windows Server, so I was mostly trying to find something by googling. I have checked the following: Local Computer Policy QoS Packet Scheduler Limit reservable bandwidth: it's Not configured; Group Policy Management Console: we have two GOPs, but neiher has any Policy-based QoS defined; There isn't any bandwidth limiter program installed, as far as I can tell. We're using standard Windows Firewall. I can update this question with any additional information if needed.

I'm looking for something relatively simplistic and it doesn't have to be 100% paranoid just enough to give me a reliable backup. Speed is not of the essence and there is not going to be a live fallback in place. The backup will be onto a single hdd that will be stored onsite (no option for offsite as yet). Backups will be taking place weekly. I am constrained by both time and money which is why I'm aiming for a good enough solution. Is taking an image of the webserver system drive periodically and using that as the backup appropriate? Should I be testing that the backups restore correctly every time that I perform one? This is a bit broad but what setup would you use if you were in my place, given the services I am running? Should I add additonal machines and split the services? Any advice is much appreciated!
