  I'm using Sphinx through Thinking Sphinx in a Ruby on Rails project. • SQL Compact Edition database corruption

  Hi, Our product is using MS SQL Compact Edition on a Windows machine (laptop). It's basically a metadata index for files we have on the filesystem. Recently we have seen databases getting corrupted. This happens when the machine is very busy moving files around and has to do a tiny bit of database changes at the same time. I was somewhat shocked that was at all possible. It was my expectation that the database would stay coherent whatever the circumstances. Of course we are doing something wrong. Things we have checked so far are: Use of only one db connection per thread specify the maximum size when opening the database The database is accessed only by one application, a .net based windows service. Are there other gotcha's?

• [Android] How do I load URL that requires login into variable?

  I am trying to port my usage meter from a JavaScript Gadget (win) / Widget (OSX) to Android. Total newbie when comes to JAVA + Eclipse + Android 2.1 SDK. Essentially what I want to do is load a page, pass through a username and password and load the resulting page into a array that I can then run some regular expressions through. I have confirmed that the course li on which I am setting the data is the same as the one on which I am looking for it. (Unless I'm messing that up by calling appendTo() on it?)

  I'm abit stuck. I'm using jQuery. I have a cookie which has the value such as : 1,something|2,somethingg|1,something We are treating it as [0] as id and [1] as name. I need to remove ONE where the id == '1' for example, this will leave the cookie like this: 1,something|2,somethingg How do I go about this, it will probally be in a loop, but not sure how to remove one of them. • rails controller defaults to respond with application/xml in production

  I have a standard contacts_controller.rb with index action that responds as follows: respond_to do |format| format.html format.xml { render :xml => @contacts } end In development, it works as intended: when I browse to http://localhost:3000/contacts, I get an html response. But, when I start the app using capistrano on a remote Ubuntu server and browse to the same url, I get an xml response. If I go to http://remote_host:8000/contacts.html, then I see the html response. If I comment out the format.xml { render :xml => @contacts }, then I see the desired html response. Pretty sure I'm missing something subtle about difference between Rails development and production modes. Any ideas about what I'm overlooking? Thanks, - Dave

  If I have a string, for example which reads: 'Hello how are you today Joe' How am I able to insert spaces into it at regular intervals? So for example I want to insert spaces into it using the range function in these steps: range(0,27,2). So it will look like this: 'He lo ho w ar e yo u to da y Jo e' It now has a space at every 2nd index going up to it's end. How do I do this does anyone know? thanks.

For example: index.php - the main plugin file info.php - returns an array with plugin information install.php - self-explanatory can you think of an elegant, short-hand name for a PHP file that contains the code that is to be executed before any HTML is output? Do any examples from other frameworks come to your mind? What I have been thinking of: head.php - misleading, could be mixed up with HTML <head> before_output.php - clumsy, too long init.php - not exactly correct start.php - current favourite

• Rails is caching when I don't want it to. Why?

  Rails is caching the index method of one of my controllers. It's a very simple application and only has like 2 controllers and a handful of actions each. The weird thing is I don't have any caching in my application at all, at least not explicitly. The pages get uncached if I restart passenger. Does rails do some kind of automatic page caching? There are no files in the public directory The page is returning a 200 header I have no caching blocks in my views (I use haml, if that matters) I have no action, controller, or page caching defined The request is hitting rails, verified by the production log I have the following in my production.rb: config.cache_classes = true config.action_controller.consider_all_requests_local = false config.action_controller.perform_caching = true config.action_view.cache_template_loading = true

• ASP.NET MVC View Not posting back to Post method and expecting a parameterless Constructor?

  Hi, I am trying to post back some data using a viewmodel i have created and it works for me for one of the projects.But I am doin this right now public ActionResult Foo(string userkey) { vm.Value="Xvalue"; return View(vm); } [HttpPost] public ActionResult Foo( MyViewModel vm) { // process input if (inputOK) string value=vm.Value return RedirectToAction("Index"); return View(); } public class MyViewModel { public string Value { get; set; } public SomeClass newobj {get;set;} } public class SomeClass { public int id{get;set;} public string str{get;set;} } So it on debugging never goes into the parameter method for Post although on the view i have added a form and a button that submits and the page inherits from the viewmodel.I get an error saying it expects a parameterless constructor how do I fix this ? . I wrote an post method with no parameters and it does go into that method

  Recently I use GIT to version my website. It makes it all really easy to see how my project develops and I always have save backups on different places on the web. Now my main question is if it is recommended to version your whole root of the website. I have a basic structure that looks something like this: /httpdocs /config /media /application index.php .htaccess 1) Should I use the /httpdocs folder to version, or should I use the content of the folder. 2) Is it recommended to version the media folder. In the media version I have several images for the overall layout, and some other images for the website. These imagas can be quite large. I work on these images from time to time and so they change. I hardly never need the old image again, so is this not just taking up precious storage space. I would highly appreciate just some basic recommendation on this topic.

  I want to iterate over two arrays at the same time, as the values for any given index i in array A corresponds to the value in array B.   I realize there's a similar question here, but this one has a different approach: I have a django app that does queries over data indexed with djapian ; I'd like to write unit tests for this app's search component, and, obviously, I'd need the django settings module and all connections with the database active, so the test runner that django provides seems ideal. however, the django testing framework creates a dummy database and I'd hate to dump all my data to a fixture and then index it (the tests would take forever!); My data isn't at risk because the tests would only read from the database, so, how could this be achieved? -I'm new at this whole unit testing thing, so the solution of writing a new test runner I read in that similar question doesn't enlighten me a bit, at least not without some details

  Here's a weird one. I'm developing a responsive site here: http://74.209.178.54:3000/index.html There are three pages built so far: the home page, the "Why" page, and the "Pricing" page. The Home and Why pages are just fine on my iPhone 4. The "Pricing" page is really blurry. And I don't just mean the images are blurry - absolutely everything is blurry: text, borders, backgrounds... Has anyone seen this before? Do you know what's happening?

• MYSQL Query with 2 columns in Table A related to 1 column in Table B

  I have 2 Tables, User and Mail. In User Table i have 2 columns that i will use, the ID column which makes the relation with the Mail Table and it is the Index of User Table and the Name column. In Mail Table i have Receiver Column and Sender Column. Both columns, Receiver and Sender have a number that relates to the ID Column in the User Table. In the User Table is where the name columns resides and i want to make a query that shows me the Receiver and Sender Columns but with the name of the user, not the ID. Up to this point i have this: SELECT name AS Send, name AS Receive FROM mail,user WHERE sender=guid; I know there is still a part of the query missing but i can not figure out what else to put to tell it to show in the SEND output column the name of the sender and in the RECEIVE output column the name of the receiver.

• IIS 7 problem which does not occur under apache

  I'm hosting a little site using a JavaScript to draw a simple graph. It involves one html index file, some css and some js files. It has all been working perfectly on two different apache servers, but when I set up IIS 7 the ajax calls fail. I get no java debug errors in firefox that I can work with, or any kind of error message at all. Without going into the code itself, does anyone have a similar experience with IIS? This is the first time I'm using IIS so I'm not quite sure what to expect to have trouble with. I'd love some input on this, if I have to delve into the code itself I'll make a new thread, I just thought I'd see if this could be a typical issue. Any help is appreciated!
