• How do I get Firefox to launch Visio when I click on a linked .vsd file?

  On our intranet site, we have various MS Office documents linked. When I click on a Word, Excel or PowerPoint file, Firefox gives me the option to Open, Save or Cancel. When I click on Open, the appropriate app is launched and the file is loaded. This is perfect. But for some reason, when I click on a linked Visio file, I only get the option to Save, which is inconvenient. I know that Firefox knows the linked file is a Visio file because it tells me so in the dialog box: "You have chosen to open example.vsd which is a: Microsoft Visio Drawing". How can I make Firefox launch Visio when I click on a linked Visio file? Update: Firefox is not launching Visio when I click on a linked Visio file because the web server does not identify the content-type correctly. It identifies the Visio file as application/octet-stream instead of application/x-visio. (Thanks Grant Wagner.) This explains why it doesn't work. And in my case, I may be able to get the Apache config file changed, but this is not certain. However, I would love to know if there is a way to configure Firefox itself to launch Visio based on some other criteria, like file name extension. This way I can open Visio files even if I don't have access to the Apache configuration.

• Do I need to Salt and Hash a randomly generated token?

  I'm using Adam Griffiths's Authentication Library for CodeIgniter and I'm tweaking the usermodel. I came across a generate function that he uses to generate tokens. His preferred approach is to reference a value from random.org but I considered that superfluous. I'm using his fall back approach of randomly generating a 20 character long string: $length = 20; $characters = '0123456789abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ'; $token = ''; for ($i = 0; $i < $length; $i++) { $token .= $characters[mt_rand(0, strlen($characters)-1)]; } He then hashes this token using a salt (I'm combing code from different functions) sha1($this->CI->config->item('encryption_key').$str); I was wondering if theres any reason to to run the token through the salted hash? I've read that simply randomly generating strings was a naive way of making random passwords but is the sh1 hash and salt necessary? Note: I got my encryption_key from https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm (63 random alpha-numeric)

  When I run this: rails generate controller hello index it no doubt generates hello controller, but accidentally when I run another command like this: rails generate controller world it creates the world controller successfully, but missed the Route "world/index" like as "hello/index". For this mistake I need to use destroy controller and then generate it once more, is thr some kind of mid way command that I can generate if forgotten something rather than destroying and creating every time. This command rails generate controller contact-us index creates a route as contact_us/index or contact_us after changing routes.rb under config folder. How could I create a more SEO friendly URL in RoR? Like localhost:3000/contact-us? I am working on some very basic rules to follow RoR..like 3 static pages (Home, About us, Contact Us) Just simple html content to understand more, will certainly add more features to it as well. localhost:3000/home localhost:3000/About_us localhost:3000/contact_us I created this via creating home, About_us, contact_us controller command and then changed html in views. Since I am on an initial phase, I read somewhere for static pages we can create this in our public like what we have error pages there in the folder or the approach im using is correct?

• How to achieve interaction between GUI class with logic class

  Im new to GUI programming, and haven't done much OOP. Im working on a basic calculator app to help me learn GUI design and to brush up on OOP. I understand that anything GUI related should be kept seperate from the logic, but Im unsure how to implement interaction between logic an GUI classes when needed i.e. basically passing variables back and forth... • Mimic Coldfusion's debug output in PHP?

  I'm trying to mimic Coldfusion's debug output in PHP. Here's an example of what it looks like (ie. Execution Time section): I've turned to XDebug. Ideally, the exception stack error output would be what I'd be looking for. However, it only shows up when an exception occurs. I also tried something like (in our CMS-ish app) this (original question here): $content.= "<?php xdebug_start_trace('e:/xdebug/trace');?>"; $content.= "<?php require('".$page['file_'.LG]."'); ?>"; $content.= "<?php xdebug_stop_trace();?>"; ... $content.= "<?php echo readfile('e:/xdebug/trace.xt');?>"; However, I get an insane, browser crashing HTML table dropped at the bottom of page. Not very efficient. • convert a textview, including those contents off the screen, to bitmap

  Hi, I want to save(export) contents of MyView, which extends TextView, into a bitmap. I followed the code: [this][1]. It works fine when the size of the text is small. But when there are lots of texts, and some of the content is out of the screen, what I got is only what showed in the screen. • IPad SQLite Push and Pull Data from external MS SQL Server DB

  This carries on from my previous post (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4182664/ipad-app-pull-and-push-relational-data). My plan is that when the ipad application starts I am going to pull data (config data i.e. Departments, Types etc etc relational data that is used across the system) from a webhosted MS SQL Server DB via a webservice and populate it into an SQL Lite DB on the IPad. Then when I load a listing I will pull the data over the line again via a webservice and populate it into the SQL Lite db on the ipad (than just run select commands to populate the listing). My questions are: 1. What is the most efficient way to transfer data across the line via the web? Everyone seems to do it a different way. My idea is that I will have a webService for each type of data pull (e.g. RetrieveContactListing) that will query the db and than convert that data into "something" to send across the line. My question really is what is the "something" that it should be converting into? 2. Everyone talks about odata services. Is this suited for applications where complex read and writes are needed? Ive created a simple iphone app before that talked to an sql server db (i just sent my own structured xml across the line) but now with this app the data calls are going to be a lot larger so efficiency is key.

• Using Java classes(whole module with Spring/Hibernate dependency) in Grails

  I have a Java/Spring/Hibernate application with a payment module. Payment module has some domain classes for payment subscription and transactions etc. Corresponding hibernate mapping files are there. This module uses applicationContext.xml for some of the configuration it needs. Also, This module has a PaymentService which uses a paymentDAO to do all database related work. Now, I want to use this module as it is(without any or minimal re-writing) in my other application(Grails application). I want to bring in the payment module as a jar or copy the source files to src/java folder in Grails. With that background, I have following queries: Will the existing applicationContext.xml for Spring configuration in the module will work as it is in Grails? Does it merge with rest of Grails's Spring config? Where do I put the applicationContext.xml? classpath? src/java should work? Can I bundle the applicationContext.xml in Jar(If I use jar option) and can overwrite in Grails if anything needs to be changed? Multiple bean definition problems in that case? PaymentService recognized as regular service? Will it be auto-injected in controllers and/or other services? Will PaymentDAO use the datasource configuration of Grails? Where do I put the hbm files of this module? Can I bundle the hbm files in Jar(If I use jar option) and can overwrite in Grails if anything needs to be changed? Which hbms are picked? or, there will be problems with that? Too many questions! :) All these concerns are actually before trying. I am going to try this in next few days(busy currently). • Question about using an access database as a resource file in Visual Studio.

  Hi I am trying to embed a Microsoft Access database file into my Class assembly DLL. I want my code to reference the resource file and use it with a ADODB.Connection object. Any body know a simpler way, or an easier way? Or what is wrong with my code, when i added the resource file it added me dataset definitions, but i have no idea what to do with those.   I am new to WebAPI. I have a MVC project and webApi project both reside under the **same solution**. Also, BLL Class library and DAL class library reside under the same solution. Earlier, my MVC project will talk to the BLL now I am trying to create a WebAPi project which stands in between MVC and BLL. Here is what I have come up with so far : I'm using the HTTPClient to post to a WebApi project. My post method on my controller accepts a single parameter (a model). • JSR-299 (CDI) configuration at runtime

  I need to configure different @Alternatives, @Decorators and @Injectors for different runtime environments (think testing, staging and production servers). Right now I use maven to create three wars, and the only difference between those wars are in the beans.xml files. Is there a better way to do this? I do have @Alternative @Stereotypes for the different environments, but even then I need to alter beans.xml, and they don't work for @Decorators (or do they?) Is it somehow possible to instruct CDI to ignore the values in beans.xml and use a custom configuration source? Because then I could for example read a system property or other environment variable. The application exclusively runs in containers that use Weld, so a weld-specific solution would be ok. I already tried to google this but can't seem to find good search terms, and I asked the Weld-Users-Forums, but to no avail. Someone over there suggested to write my own custom extension, but I can't find any API to actually change the container configuration at runtime. I think it would be possible to have some sort of @ApplicationScoped configuration bean and inject that into all @Decorators which could then decide themselves whether they should be active or not and then in order to configure @Alternatives write @Produces methods for every interface with multiple implementations and inject the config bean there too. But this seems to me like a lot of unnecessary work to essentially duplicate functionality already present in CDI?

• C# Combining lines

  Hey everybody, this is what I have going on. I have two text files. Umm lets call one A.txt and B.txt. A.txt is a config file that contains a bunch of folder names, only 1 listing per folder. B.txt is a directory listing that contains folders names and sizes. But B contains a bunch of listing not just 1 entry. What I need is if B, contains A. Take all lines in B that contain A and write it out as A|B|B|B ect.... • How to solve this problem with Python

  I am "porting" an application I wrote in C++ into Python. This is the current workflow: Application is started from the console Application parses CLI args Application reads an ini configuration file which specifies which plugins to load etc Application starts a timer Application iterates through each loaded plugin and orders them to start work. This spawns a new worker thread for the plugin The plugins carry out their work and when completed, they die When time interval (read from config file) is up, steps 5-7 is repeated iteratively Since I am new to Python (2 days and counting), the distinction between script, modules and packages are still a bit hazy to me, and I would like to seek advice from Pythonista as to how to implement the workflow described above, using Python as the programing language. In order to keep things simple, I have decided to leave out the time interval stuff out, and instead run the python script/scripts as a cron job instead. This is how I am thinking of approaching it: Encapsulate the whole application in a package which is executable (i.e. can be run from the command line with arguments. Write the plugins as modules (I think maybe its better to implement each module in a separate file?) I havent seen any examples of using threading in Python yet. Could someone provide a snippet of how I could spawn a thread to run a module. Also, I am not sure how to implement the concept of plugins in Python - any advice would be helpful - especially with a code snippet.

• Problem prompting user for extended permissions using showPermissionDialog in FB page tab

  I have an FBML app that will use the tab as a promo tab before the full app goes live. The purpose of the promo tab is to allow users to opt in to email notifications (using the FB API sendNotifications call), so I need to prompt them to allow the app and grant extended permissions on that promo tab. Grant extended permissions (intab)</a></h1> The result.php page just tags the API to ensure the allow prompt will show up. The problem is with the Step 2. Once the user has allowed the app, and they click on the Step 2, nothing happens. If they click on it twice, THEN the extended permissions dialog box popups up, but it asks them to grant extended permissions TWICE. OR.... If the user clicks on Step 1, and allows the app, and then reloads the fan page tab, they only have to click on the Step 2 link once, and the permissions show up. Anyone have any ideas? I have been beating myself in the head over this for hours.

I add a new tag with this date to the db at the timestamp and I run delta import command. the select retrieves the line but i dont see any other sql. • Develop multiple very similar projects at once

  I am developing a semi-complicated site that is available in several countries at once. Much effort has been put in to make the code bases as similar as possible to one another and ultimately only the config file and some representational data will differ between them. Each project has its own SVN repository which maps directly to a live test site. That part is handled by the IDE we use to work. Now I am in need to create a some sort of system to keep all these projects in sync. The best theoretical solution so far is to create a local hook script that would fire on committing and Merge the committed files from the project that is being committed to all other projects Optionally upload them to the live site, replacing previous files The first problem is that I don't know how I would do the merging - I guess it would be like applying a SVN patch or something. The second is if I do not want to upload the changes to the live server, how would I go about synching the live and local code bases (replace older files?). I am posting this question, not going through the potentially huge trouble of solving the aforementioned problems myself is that I believe this is a pretty common situation and someone would already have a solution and others may benefit from the answers in the future. Lastly, I'm on windows7, develop PHP and use tortoiseSVN.

• Jquery Mobile app focus-based navigation stops working after switching between pages

  As much as I would like to expand on the details here, I am not able to find relevant information about the root cause of this problem. I am having this issue with my blackberry Webapp which I built using JQM. After few times of navigation from page to page, the application becomes unresponsive on the destination page and I am not able to scroll up/down using the touchpad. If someone had this problem or some clue to the resolution, then that would be helpful. Edit: after doing some research I was able to narrow down the cause of the issue. I am having an issue with focus-based navigation. As I lose focus on the page elements (buttons, input fields, etc) after few transitions among the pages. Edit I had to switch back to the cursor based navigation as it is much faster and do not have the issue faced by focus-based navigation. I removed the entry: <rim:navigation mode=”focus”/> from the config.xml file I found this entry on the blackberry fourms but it haven't solved my problem despite the fact I upgraded my WebWorks SDK to 2.0 from 1.5 http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Web-and-WebWorks-Development/Focus-based-navigation-hangs-device/td-p/455600 Thanks

• Configure nHibernate for multiple-project solution

  Hello, Im doing a project with C# winforms. This project is composed by: Client project: Windows Forms where user will do CRUD operations on the models; Server project; Common Project: This project will hold the models (in the image only have the model Item); ListSingleton: Remote Object that will do the operations on the models; I already have all the communication working, but now I need to work on the persistence of the data in a mysql database. I was trying to use nHibernate but I’m having some troubles. My main problem is how to organize my hibernate configuration. In which project do I keep the mapping? Common project? In which project do I keep the hibernate configuration file (App.config)? ListSingleton project? In which project do I do this: Configuration cfg = new Configuration(); cfg.AddXmlFile("Item.hbm.xml"); ISessionFactory factory = cfg.BuildSessionFactory(); ISession session = factory.OpenSession(); ITransaction transaction = session.BeginTransaction(); Item newItem = new Item("BLAA"); // Tell NHibernate that this object should be saved session.Save(newItem); // commit all of the changes to the DB and close the ISession transaction.Commit(); session.Close(); In the ListSingleton project? Altho I had reference to the Common Project in the ListSingleton I keep getting error in the addXml line… My mapping is correct because I tried with a one-project solution and it worked :X

• JavaScript Keycode 46 is DEL Function key or (.) period sign?

  Im writing some logic in JavaScript using jquery, where i must check the input content against a REGEX pattern ex: "^[a-zA-Z0-9_]*$" //Alpha-numeric and _ The logic is almost done, i just have a little problem filtering the function key DEL, my logic goes like this: var FunctionsKey = new Array(8, 9, 13, 16, 35, 36, 37, 39, 46); function keypressValidation(key) { if (config.regexExp != null) { if ($.inArray(key, FunctionsKey) != -1) { return true; } else { var keyChar = String.fromCharCode(key); return RegexCheck(keyChar); } } return true; } If the KeyCode is one of those in the array, i let it pass, if not i get the char and compare it against the REGEX. The problem is: in some Browsers the DEL and '.' (period sign) have the same key Code 46. So is there a better logic to filter the function keys or must i write a condition for that case, maybe removing the 46 from the array and try to convert it to char and if is (.) let it go to the Regex function if not let it pass? The other question will be are there more shared Key Codes in some browsers? EDIT: My suggested solution wont work because it doesn't matter which key the user pressed (DEL or period) i always get (.) as CHAR at least on OPERA and FF =(.

• Angularjs throws TypeError: Cannot read property 'indexOf' of undefined

  I'm trying to debug the above code which I feel like this is very useful .< I can't even find what is wrong in my code and don't really know where to start since Angularjs still very new to me. I'm trying to localize Angularjs app. I know this is missing a lot of context in order to get a help, but I'm trying to see what information that I should give that would help on this debugging. I've gone through any indexOf in angularjs file and I can see few things is undefined but don't know if that would be helpful. The ldap path I received from my technical team is LDAP://infinmumcfac.inf.com OU=Infotech,DC=inf,DC=com I got this piece of code from microsoft site. <membership defaultProvider="LdapMembershipProvider"> <providers> <add name="LdapMembership" type="Microsoft.Office.Server.Security.LDAPMembershipProvider, Microsoft.Office.Server, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71E9BCE111E9429C" server="DC" port="389" useSSL="false" userDNAttribute="distinguishedName" userNameAttribute="sAMAccountName" userContainer="CN=Users,DC=userName,DC=local" userObjectClass="person" userFilter="(|(ObjectCategory=group)(ObjectClass=person))" scope="Subtree" otherRequiredUserAttributes="sn,givenname,cn" /> </providers> </membership> The site asked me to change the Server and Usercontainer attribute.
